Chapter 10
Brainy walked back into the Tower, hard drive in hand. Kara had texted him that J'onn and Nia had struck out finding Agent Smith and were on their way back to the Tower, bringing Alex with them. Lena had hacked into the former DEO agent's tablet and was able to find that the personal cell phone had a bill, which he paid electronically. She tried to track the phone's location and was able to send the last coordinates to the agents in the field but the location was a dead end. Not only did they not find the agent or Marie, but they were also unable to sense if either person had actually been there. Regrettably, the phone was now off and not transmitting its location.
"Kara, it is good to see you," M'gann smiled and hugged the blonde. She had arrived back at the Tower, bringing Lena with her, at about the same time as Brainy. The raven-haired woman hugged her friend as well.
"I can't thank you enough for filling in for me while I was gone," Kara said.
"I enjoyed it, though I enjoy being me as well," the Martian teased.
"I bet," the blonde smiled. She turned to Lena and wondered,
"Kate is already on it, but there is a possible breach at Obsidian North or Wayne Enterprises. Have you noticed anything on your end at L Corp?"
"You think that someone is trying to get information?" Lena was immediately concerned.
"Marie found someone perpetrating corporate espionage that also became sabotage at Obsidian North. L Corp is their biggest competitor here in National City. We figured that this person may be part of a network given that Marie and Agent Smith have disappeared," Kara explained. Before the conversation could go any further, the elevator opened and out came J'onn, Nia, and Alex.
"Good, we're all here. Brainy, what have you found?" Kara asked. The twelfth level intellect had hooked the hard drive up to his computer system and cued up the video.
"I analyzed two months of footage. Now either Marie didn't notice she was being followed or she knew and she was playing coy," Brainy played the first video that he wanted to show.
"Marie was trained by Wonder Woman; she knew she was being followed. Any chance you got the plates off that black car?" Kara asked.
"I got it. ARGUS ran the plates and it came back to L Corp," Brainy told the group. They all turned to Lena.
"That's not possible. I didn't even know that Marie was working at Obsidian North and I certainly would not send someone to follow her or spy. We have our own shot at getting those contracts that Obsidian North and Wayne Enterprises are going for," the raven-haired woman shook her head.
"ARGUS is enhancing the footage to see if we can get faces inside the vehicle. I have caught the same car on multiple occasions keeping an eye on Marie, right up until the day she goes missing," Brainy pulled up the next video. They all watched as Marie was on the sidewalk waiting for her chance to cross the street. Suddenly, the black car pulled up to the curb, the doors opened, and they pulled her inside.
"Son of a…" Kara was pissed.
"She didn't put up much of a fight. So, either she suspected this was coming or…" Brainy trailed off.
"Or they said something that made her not want to fight," Nyssa spoke up.
"You couldn't track Agent Smith's phone but do you have his records? Who was the last phone call from?" Kara turned to Lena.
"That phone call he took at the office was from a burner phone. The last number that called his phone giving us that warehouse location which turned out to be a dud – was a number from inside Obsidian North. The warehouse is part of Kate's empire now," the woman heaved a sigh.
"Our saboteur," Kara frowned.
"Give me the number. I can track it down," Kelly told Lena. The raven-haired woman quickly texted the number to the former Obsidian North worker and Kelly went looking for the directory which Marie had at her apartment.
"They took Marie and more than likely Agent Smith. With no one left in their way, they'll keep doing what they were sent to do," Nia said.
"It also doesn't leave them a lot of reason to leave either Marie or Agent Smith alive. They may have tricked him into thinking she was still alive to get him to come to them," Nyssa said the words that no one wanted to voice out loud.
"There has to be a way to find them," Kara was frustrated.
"I have a way. These videos have given us more than just kidnapping footage," Brainy said.
