Chapter 24
The computer squawked an alarm and Nia checked the screen to see that someone was at the front door of the detective agency. She figured it must be a client of J'onn's and intended to ignore them until she noticed that the person was wearing a long-hooded robe and looked like they may be trying to pick the lock on the door.
Nia left Marie and quickly left the Tower and made her way into the detective agency. The person saw her coming to the door and the human-Naltorian hybrid was glad that she wasn't wearing her after work outfit. Still the brunette wondered if she should have left Marie alone, despite her condition.
"I'm looking for John Jones," the woman at the door said once Nia opened it.
"He's out on a case. I'm his assistant. Can I help you?" The brunette asked, letting the woman in. The taller woman removed her hood and blonde hair tumbled out. Nia could tell she was older but somehow, she could not tell just how much.
"I'm not sure little one, can you?" The older woman asked. Nia had heard the phrase before but she wasn't sure that the person in front of her could be who she was beginning to think she was.
"If I was to say to you that Ares was a good guy…" she didn't even get to finish her sentence. A sword came out of the robe and was pointed at the brunette's throat.
"I'd say that you know not of what you speak," the woman told her.
"My apologies Queen Hippolyta. I needed to be sure," Nia said as the elder woman put the sword away.
"The apologies are mine. You are Nia Nal, are you not?" The Queen asked.
"I am…" the brunette was unsure of how the Amazon knew who she was.
"Diana speaks highly of you. I can only hope that my other daughter can say the same," Hippolyta said.
"Please come with me. There is much to discuss," Nia said. Her phone rang and she quickly answered it. It was not a long phone call but it was a welcome one.
"Lyla is bringing the antidote to help Marie. We are close to bringing her back to you," Nia smiled at her.
"We shall be in your debt then," Hippolyta told her.
"We can worry about that later. Let me take you to Marie. Lyla knows how to get in," Nia winked at the elder woman and quickly brought her to the Med Bay to see Marie.
The chase to get Debra's car was taking too long and was putting countless other civilians in danger. Kara radioed into the teams that were helping in the chase to pretend to back off. The blonde had an idea.
The sounds of sirens died down and the people in the car had very different reactions. Debra's fear started to creep toward unbearable and her captor was thinking that they'd gotten away. Still the captor was unsure if Supergirl had given up the chase. Lucky for them that they were heading into heavy afternoon traffic and the white car would blend into the others given the popularity of the model.
Suddenly, the car tires stopped gripping the road as they were no longer touching the pavement. The rear of the car was lifted up off the ground and the captor tried to get Debra to keep pressing on the gas when they heard the hissing of the tires. They'd been melted, thanks to heat vision.
"You've got nowhere to go! I suggest that you turn off the ignition unless you want me to do it for you!" Kara shouted. The car's engine did not turn off but the passenger car door opened.
"You can't outrun me or the police behind me!" The blonde told the person. That's when the engine cut off and Kara set the back of the car down. Out of the open door came the person they'd been looking for – Mary. Still, Kara knew that she could not be excited. Mary was still under Enigma's spell.
"She sent you, didn't she?" The implication from Mary was clear.
"I'm helping a friend. You used to be one of those friends," Kara said. There was a look of disgust on her face. Suddenly, Kara felt a breeze shoot by her head. Mary cried out as a tranquilizer dart hit her in the stomach.
"Nap time," Kara said. She scooped up Mary and turned to see that her sister had done the shooting.
"Get her to ARGUS. I'm going to help Debra," Kara smiled at her.
"You got it," Alex winked.
