Hello, it's been a while since I did one of these pre-chapter note things. I just want to tell everyone that since I am going on a cruise, I am taking this opportunity to make a break chapter. Since after this, it's basically going to be nearly all non-stop action. I am taking this time to slow things down and have Class 1a celebrate living this long. If you want to skip this chapter, I won't blame you. The only real things you'll learn are who can and can't sing Karaoke and some background lore about this world (or maybe something more who knows). I apologize in advance for taking a break chapter. I need time to plan everything for the Final Exams and Summer Camp arc. Also, the next chapter will probably be coming out later than a week from when this one is posted because Cruise Ships are not well known for having good cellular signals unless you pay an arm and a leg for it. But don't worry everyone's favorite insane girl, blue flamethrower, and split personality disorder will be joining the story soon.
"A Nomu attack!" Mina says as she sits on a couch light with the rest of class 1A.
"Yeah," Izuku says as he sits next to her. "Honestly though the leader was more annoying."
"She got some of your skin too," Kirishima says. "Can I see it?"
Izuku pulls back his sleeve to show his mostly scarred forearm to Kirishima with one blank spot near the middle.
"Is that it?" Kirishima asks, pointing to the blank spot on his arm.
"Yeah, the upside of Recovery Girl is that there's no scarring," Izuku says. "So how were the rest of your internships?"
"I learned some martial arts," Ururaka says.
"Me and Tetsutetsu learned to be more manly," Kirishima says.
"Me and Toru learned more about how to be stealthy," Mina says.
"Learned more about the limits of my quirk," Shinso says.
"Same I learned how to control the output of my quirk," Kaminari says.
"I had photo shoots with Kendo from class 1b," Momo says.
"I was just responsible for tying perps up," Sero says.
"I was the muscle of a small group," Sato says.
"I was recon," Jiro says.
"I just had to clean up after Hawks' messes," Tokoyami says.
"I was the beautiful distraction of the group," Aoyama says.
"I caught a villain smuggling stuff into Japan, Ribbit," Tsu says.
"Me and Shoji both learned how to better maneuver with our quirks," Ojiro says.
Koda stays quiet.
Everyone looks over at Bakugo and he says, "I learned fucking nothing."
"Oh come on Bakugo you can't have learned nothing," Kirishima says.
"WELL I FUCKING DID!" Bakugo yells.
"Ah I did not miss that yelling over the internship," Jiro says as she rubs her earphone jacks to mitigate the ringing caused by Bakugo's yelling.
"THE HELL YOU SAY EARS!" Bakugo yells.
"Yeah, I did not miss that at all," Jiro mumbles.
"So since we all made it through the internships I feel as though we should all celebrate," Mina says.
"Like what a night on the town or something," Shote asks.
"Who would want to do something that stupid," Bakugo says.
Everyone's hands but Iida's and his raise.
"Seriously?" Bakugo says.
"I agree with Bakugo that spending a night on the town would be improper. We should instead be studying and preparing to be heroes," Iida says.
"It would help with morale though. I mean this would be the first time we all went out as a class," Momo says.
"I agree it would be helpful for class morale," Izuku says.
"Well I'm not going," Bakugo says as he walks away.
"We'll go to a karaoke bar," Izuku calls out.
Bakugo stops dead in his tracks, looks behind him, and says, "Fine I'll come along," before walking away.
"Bakugo likes karaoke? Man, I didn't expect that," Kaminari says.
"No, he enjoys mocking people after they fail at singing," Izuku says.
"Honestly that makes more sense," Kaminari says.
"I like this idea we can go to a restaurant and then go shopping, and then we can go to the karaoke bar," Momo says excitedly.
"Quick question, who is paying for this?" Ururaka asks. "I don't have any money and I guarantee most of us don't have that much money."
"I'll cover all the girls and Izuku can cover all the boys," Momo says happily.
"No, I will just cover the boys," Shote says. "I owe Izuku one and more importantly I have this."
Shote lifts her hand and holds out Endeavor's credit card.
"Nice," Izuku says as Iida starts yelling in the background.
"Thanks," Shote nods.
After about a half hour everyone agreed to go next Friday.
The Next Friday because I'm too lazy to write the classes for each day leading up to that Friday:
"Hello, welcome to Abysse. How many will be in your party today?" a hostess asks, staring at her tablet.
"Nineteen," Momo says.
"Okay that will be- Wait did you say nineteen," The hostess looks up and glances at the party in front of her and her eyes widen.
"I don't think we allow parties that size here," the hostess stutters.
"They should, my uncle owns the place," Izuku says, stepping forward.
The hostess laughs slightly as she says, "That's the stupidest excuse I've ever hear-"
"What are you doing, Jess," a manager, whose name tag reads Athena, says frantically. "My apologies, sir. We will get you a table right away."
"It's no problem at all," Izuku smiles as the manager and host quickly walk away.
"Man, your uncle must be a harsh boss or something," Kirishima mutters.
"I wouldn't say too harsh, but he is slightly strict," Izuku says.
FLASHBACK SEQUENCE:
"You failed me," All For One says.
"No! Please Don't!" A random criminal says before All For One grabs his arm and shatters it.
"Next time you fail me it will be your head," All For One says before using a quirk to heal the arm and then forcing the criminal away.
Present day:
"Anyway let's go eat," Izuku says as they get seated in the restaurant.
As they all sit and eat the time flies by.
Kaminari tries (and fails) to flirt with the server.
Sato advises the chef about how to cook one of the desserts.
Sero describes to Shote how to properly take weed much to the anger of Iida.
And finally, Shote pays for everyone's meal using Endeavor's credit card.
As Class 1a leaves the restaurant Izuku nods slightly at the manager whose tense demeanor slowly fades as they leave.
"You know I don't remember the last time we had one of our clients come here to buy just food," Jess says.
"It was good enough to where we aren't getting punished," Athena says. "Now tell the chefs they can start cooking up the LSD in the back again. We have customers we need to satisfy."
"Yes Ma'am," Jess says as she returns to the kitchen.
"So who wants to go first," Izuku says, as they stand in the karaoke bar.
"Are you sure we can come here? This place looks expensive," Sero says, looking around the bar.
"Of course my parents own it," Momo says. "And they are more than happy to let us use this place for one night so long as we don't have any alcohol."
"Alright cool," Sero says grabbing a seat at one of the tables near the karaoke machine.
There's an awkward pause as no one steps up to the karaoke machine.
Izuku takes a breath and says, "Okay, whoever goes first will get paid-" Izuku is interrupted by a blast of wind as Ururaka rushes up to the karaoke machine.
A slow version of "She Works Hard For Her Money" starts playing as Ururaka starts singing badly.
After her less-than-stellar performance (and a payout from Izuku), other classmates went up on stage.
Kirishima sang a rock version, of "Macho Man"
Sero sang an upbeat version of "Luck Be a Lady"
"Ah, so this is one of those karaoke places," Izuku mumbles as Sato walks off the stage after singing a jazzy version of "Beat It"
"One of what places?" Momo asks.
"Nearly every modern bit of music is just a reskinned version of a song from the days before quirks," Izuku says. "It gets a bit depressing, especially after you know what the original sounds like. But hey, that's what happens when something is labeled as being from 'The Quirkless Era.'"
"Really," Momo says.
"No, that can't be right. The heroes would never allow it," Iida says.
"No, it's true," Jiro says, nodding. "It's happened all over the world but especially here in Japan. Very few like remembering the days before quirks showed up so most of the history is erased except for a few countries like the USA whose patriotism and strong laws relating to the deletion of quirkless history have made sure stuff like this can't happen there."
"Really? That sounds wrong," Kaminari says.
"Yeah… some bands have survived the purge either by being directly on the edge of when quirks started showing up or through sheer popularity of the original singer. For example, Elvis Presley and Elton John both survived via their popularity and long track list of songs while bands like My Chemical Romance and Taylor Swift both survived because of how close they were to when quirks started up and the artists so quickly came out in support of the new people with quirks." Jiro continues.
"That does sound accurate based on my knowledge," Tokoyami nods.
"Not like we can do anything about it," Izuku mumbles. "You put it up on the internet and in 5 minutes it's been deleted by the governments of over 100 countries."
"Man that sucks," Kaminari says.
There is a moment of silence before Mina walks up to the karaoke and says, "Well I wasn't planning on singing yet but we need to make this mood more upbeat." She quickly scrolls through the songs and selects her song.
"It might seem crazy what I'm about to say," Mina starts singing. "Sunshine, she's here you can take a break."
As Mina sings Happy, she dances around the bar and interacts with all of her classmates causing them to laugh and smile at her insane but expertly performed dances.
As the song ends she does a backflip onto the stage and bows causing a roar of applause from everyone in the class.
"That was awesome," Kirishima says, giving Mina a high five.
"Amazing," Shote nods.
"Adequate," Bakugo says, standing at the front of the bar entrance.
"Well if you're so good why don't you go next," Momo says.
"Alright," Bakugo says with a sadistic smile.
Bakugo selects his song, walks up to the karaoke machine, and starts the song, "YEAH!" he yells releasing an explosion from his hand.
Bakugo looks up and smiles at the class and starts expertly singing, "And if you're heart stops beating I'll be here wondering did you get what you deserve? THE ENDING OF YOUR LIFE!"
The class watches in amazement as Bakugo starts expertly singing Dead! causing even Izuku to start tapping his feet on the ground along to the beat.
"THEN WHY AM I DEAD! DEAD!" Bakugo finishes the song causing a round of applause from the class.
"Very impressed that you know My Chemical Romance," Tokoyami says.
"As previously stated both me and Izuku shared books and music and stuff so I got it from him," Bakugo says.
"Wait you're going to sing MCR," Mina says looking at Izuku.
"You mean he hasn't sung yet?" Bakugo says. "Ha, the nerd used to sing all the time I would've thought he would have gone first."
"I'm waiting to go last," Izuku says.
"Why to prove you're the best or something," Bakugo sneers.
"No, not to ruin the mood," Izuku says,
"What are yo-" Bakugo stops and stares at Izuku. "Oh, you're singing her song."
Izuku nods.
"In that case yes you should go last," Bakugo says before sitting down in a chair
The room gets quiet for a bit before people begin walking up and singing again.
Toru sings a jazzy version of Mysterious Ways.
Kaminari sings the Weeb Theme Song.
Sato and Koda, mostly Sato, sang a song called Loser Baby from an old TV show.
Ojiro sings a happy version of "When the Saints Come Marching."
Aoyama poorly sings a French song called "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus."
Shoji does an entire Acapella version of "Sweet Caroline," much to the delight of all of the class, even Bakugo.
Tokoyami sings a surprisingly good rendition of "That's What You Get."
Iida tries (and fails) at singing "Can You Feel the Love Tonight."
Tsuyu and Jiro sing an amazing duet of "The Other Side" from The Greatest Showman.
"I guess we're up," Momo says as she drags Shote up with her.
"Do I have to do this?" Shote asks.
"Yes, now come on I have the perfect song for us," Momo says.
"Fine," Shote says exasperatedly.
"Okay, we switch every other verse, okay," Momo says.
Shote nods as the song starts playing.
"Once upon a time a few mistakes ago I was in your sights you got me alone," Momo sings.
"You found me, you found me, you found me me me me," Shote continues.
As Shote and Momo sing Trouble Izuku chuckles a bit at watching Shote try to sing while Momo is clearly just trying to have a good time with her.
"Something funny?" Mina asks quietly.
"Oh nothing," Izuku says. "Just watching the show."
Mina gives him a questioning look before going and continuing to watch them sing.
"Cause I knew you were Trouble when you walked in," Momo sings.
"Trouble trouble trouble." Shote sings as the music cuts out a cheer rings out from the crowd as the two take a bow.
"Okay so with that I think only Shinso and Izuku are left," Mina calls out, causing everyone to look at them.
"Fine," Shinso says as he walks on stage.
Shinso however simply ignores the machine and grabs a guitar that was hanging off the wall and starts tuning it.
After a few minutes, Shinso nods and starts playing the guitar and sings "Well I was walking down the street, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a pretty little thing approaching me."
As Shinso continues to sing and play "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked." Jiro nods in approval at the skilled playing of the guitar while nearly everyone else is concerned about Shinso singing such a villainous song.
"Until we close our eyes for good," Shinso finishes.
"Well that was certainly very interesting," Aoyama says.
"Not a very heroic song," Shote comments.
"It's the music I like so it's what I sing," Shinso says.
"That is fair but it doesn't change it," Jiro says.
"Stop harping on the man," Izuku says as he walks up to the stage. "It's his music tastes, we don't have to like them but they're his."
"That isn't very manly," Kirishima says.
"Exactly," Izuku says as he starts pressing the karaoke machine to pick the song.
Just before he hits play though he pauses thoughts rolling through his head and emotions flashing across his face.
"Izuku are you okay?" Mina asks.
"This song was sung to me by my mother when I was a kid," Izuku says with a sad smile. "It's just… it's nothing."
He looks down, hits the play button, and takes a breath before he starts to sing in a haunting siren-like tone.
"So long to all my friends, every one of them met tragic ends.
With every passing day, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I miss them all tonight.
And if they only knew what I would say if I could be with you tonight I would sing you to sleep never let them take the light behind your eyes.
One day I'll lose this fight as we fade in the dark just remember you will always burn as bright.
Be strong and hold my hand, time comes for us you'll understand.
We'll say goodbye today and I'm sorry how it ends this way.
If you promise not to cry then I'll tell you just what I would say if I could be with you tonight I could be with you tonight. I would sing you to sleep, never let them take the light behind your eyes.
I'll fail and lose this fight never fade in the dark just remember you will always burn as bright.
The Light Behind Your Eyes
The Light Behind Your Eyes
Sometimes we must grow stronger and you can't be stronger when I'm gone.
When I'm here no longer you must be stronger in defiance.
If I could be with you tonight I would sing you to sleep never let them take the light behind your eyes.
I failed and lost this fight never fade in the dark just remember you will always burn as bright.
The Light Behind Your Eyes
The Light Behind Your Eyes
The Light Behind Your Eyes
The Light Behind Your Eyes
The Light Behind Your Eyes
The Light Behind your Eyes
The light Behind your Eyes
the light Behind your Eyes
the light behind your Eyes
the light behind your eyes"
As Izuku finishes his song a loud cheer of applause greets him with only Bakugo, Shote, Ururaka, and Mina having the sense that the applause was not appropriate.
"That was amazing," Momo says.
"Magnique," Aoyama says.
"Yeah, how did you get so good at singing?" Jiro asks.
"My mom taught me," Izuku says with a sad smile.
"Well tell her she should come teach us how to sing like that too," Kaminari says.
Izuku clenches his fists and says, "Sure I'll do that for you." before he angrily storms out of the room.
As the door slams shut behind Izuku, Kaminari looks around and says, "Was it something I said."
"I take it he never told anyone," Ururaka says.
"He told you?" Bakugo asks.
"During the first combat trial immediately after cursing at All Might," Ururaka says.
"He also told me on one of our dates," Mina says.
"Makes sense," Bakugo mumbles.
"I just guessed from past interactions," Shote mumbles.
"I think the rest of us are missing some crucial information here," Kaminari says. "Like what the hell that was about."
"Izuku's mom is dead," Bakugo says quietly causing the mood in the room to quickly become cold as though they had just stepped out into a blizzard.
"Izuku partially blames All Might for her death because it happened the same day they first met," Bakugo continues. "And because due to the delay that it caused he missed her death by only a few minutes removing any chance of being able to save her."
"I always wondered why Izuku seemingly hated for All Might," Kirishima says. "Honestly I can't blame him that much."
"It's worse than that All Might used to be Izuku's favorite hero," Bakugo says. "That just made the whole thing worse."
"If his mom is dead who does he live with now?" Momo asks.
"Last I checked his uncle," Bakugo says. "He's the one who paid for all the training and gear and stuff that makes him able to be a hero."
"That just sucks…Should we try cheering him up or something," Kaminari says.
"Don't bother," Bakugo says sharply.
"How can you just say that," Mina says, walking up to Bakugo.
"I knew him before his mom died, okay!" Bakugo yells. "The man he was before is nothing like the one who joined UA. His happy-go-lucky attitude died that day. It's better to just try to ignore his past. It will make it easier on us all."
"And you're part in it," Mina says angrily.
Bakugo glares at Mina and says, "The fuck did you say."
"You heard me," Mina says. "I know."
"I apologized to him for all that," Bakugo growls, clenching his fists.
"You still treat him like shit," Mina says as acid starts to form around her body.
"If you haven't noticed, I talk to everyone the same way," Bakugo growls.
"That you may, but it doesn't change the fact that to him specifically, you're way worse," Mina replies.
"I don't care," Bakugo says as he walks out of the bar.
"Asshole," Shote mumbles as the class all leaves and go their separate ways.
"I don't understand why you allow Bakugo to treat you like that," Toru tells Izuku as they walk into one of the side entrances of the League's Headquarters.
"It makes it easier and more entertaining later," Izuku says.
"It better be worth it for all this treatment," Toru says as they get closer to the bar.
"Yeah, it will be… oh, not again," Izuku moans as he puts on his mask.
"What is it?" Toru asks.
"More visitors Nana failed to tell me about," Deku's distorted voice says.
As Deku walks into the bar area of the League of Villains headquarters, he sees a group of nine new people, plus Nana and Kurogiri, in the bar.
Author's Note: Hello, everyone, and I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I want to give a big thank you to PreciousLadyAthena for helping me with this chapter and figuring out which songs to do for each character. She writes on AO3 and mostly writes Harry Potter fics, so if you like that, please check it out. However, I would strongly recommend you do not join their discord since some of the people there are the same type of people who say that shipping a 14-year-old and a 70-year-old is okay and yeah the extreme elements ruin it so much that I quit the server after a week. Also, I now have a Discord server. Please feel free to join to talk about the fic or whatever else you wish: /SAcCGa64. Anyway, please feel free to review the piece if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions on how I can write better until next time. I hope you all have a great day.
