Chapter 2

I ran and ran and ran. I stopped and held my breath in some bushes. No one will come here because this is the most secret place of Sunshine Middle School. I sat down and started reading The Lord of the Rings. The school bell rang, but I didn't care. I kept on reading. Some wind blew toward me. It had a weird scent of persimmon and grass. Suddenly, the school bell sound disappeared. It stopped earlier than ever before, I thought. Maybe something bad happened to the poor bell ringer.

There was some noise at the edge of the bushes. Suddenly, a girl ran into my view. She looked strange with a long brown corseted dress and a pearl-white bonnet. She would be pretty without those weird clothes, especially the bonnet, I thought. Maybe she's an actress for a volunteer show.

Then she turned her head and saw me. She looked very, very surprised. "Run," she whispered to me. "Run for your life!"

"What are you saying?" I shouted.

She glared at me with surprise in her eyes. "Why don't you run? Do you want to die?" Her words were so weird.

Just then, the noise I heard before got louder and louder. The girl seemed very scared. She looked at me one last time.
"Run with me!" she yelled.

I did. We ran for a long time. Suddenly, we ran out of the bushes. I felt exhilarated when I saw the view outside of the bushes. Beyond the bushes was not my school or the fancy street. There was a big meadow. The grass there looked really green and fresh.

"Where am I?" I yelled.

The girl in front of me looked back at me strangely. "Of course in Middle Earth," she said and kept on running.

"Middle Earth?!"

The girl looked at me strangely again but didn't stop.

We ran and ran and ran for a long time. When twilight came, the girl took me into some tents. The golden tents in the middle were so big, and the girl led me there.
