Author's Note: before reading:
1. I have slightly changed the background of Jasper, but not too much. He basically joined the military, realized he was on the wrong side, and went over to the Union to become a spy.
2. Royal is a cross dresser, and you can't tell me otherwise. If you are uncomfortable with Royal liking to wear women's clothes, then don't read the story.
3. Emmett is the mate of Tanya, while Alice and Royal are mates. Edward and Jasper obviously are mates.
4. Bella is not ever with any of them, she's Imprinted to Embry Call (a character in the saga who I adored even though he didn't have that much character time). Imprinting exists in this but it's not anywhere close to what Stephanie made it. Merely just another way of saying they are mates, but no children or infants are Imprinted upon.
5. The Indigenous were robbed of having proper representation so I'm making sure to have things as accurate as possible. There is no calling them 'savages' or 'dogs' or any of that stupid stuff Stephanie did. They have a strictly professional relationship; everyone is an adult here.
6. a LONG, LONG time from now I plan on writing a spinoff where it will be Bella and Embry's version of the story. I have too many stories I am currently writing, and I've never seen enough Jasper and Edward stories so here you go.
Let me know what you think at the end of the chapter.
as always: Twilight doesn't belong to me

Chapter One
|Jasper|
It's cold.
The kind of cold where one doesn't have to step outside but merely peer out at the scenery and know how cold it's going to be. The sky is that deep grayish white, the wind whips around you and wisps across the canopies of the trees. You have to bundle yourself up with multiple layers until you resemble a chrysanthemum preparing for spring. You most likely are holding a hot beverage in your hands, the warmth radiating from the cup you are holding warms your hands up while the scarf around your neck keeps the goosebumps from rising on the bare skin of your throat. A toboggan can be nestled on your head and winter boots will be crusted with icy mud which will leave streaks and mud prints throughout the house if you don't take care of the mess on the back porch.
The young man standing within the forest of Forks, Washington State is not like a normal person.
His sharp, beautiful features are bland though his almost insect sized golden butterscotch eyes peer quietly down at the raging river not far from him. The man is peering at the Calawah River before him, and he cranes his head to the side. His hair, a deep golden hue that is a little darker than his eyes currently, blows some from the wind around him since his hair is long enough it almost touches his shoulder blades. It's also curly, wavy, and out of control, the way his lover likes it. Even if the said man would rather have his hair up in a messy bun the majority of the time.
His skin is pale, luminescent, so pale it is almost a shade of blue. He's wearing a random winter jacket over his gray sweatshirt, dark washed jeans, and some hiking boots his younger sister had bought online for him and he had to accept because their mother demands it of them. To at least show some sense of kindness and manners.
He doesn't have to turn around to hear the crunching of boots against the forest floor for him to know who it is that is coming towards him. He doesn't turn around nevertheless, instead he focuses on the way the rocks within the river can slowly be chipped away from the force of the water. Just like his marble skin can be chipped away if the pressure and strength is hard enough.
"Come back to the house. You've been out here for almost the whole day."
His lover is concerned for him, and the golden eyed man smiles at how he is the rock for his said lover. The both of them are kind of fucked up in the head, and the rest of their family is most likely fucked up in the head too. To masquerade as humans, for him and three (two if you didn't count his lover) siblings to continuously go to the high school just because they are right at the edge of being the age to still be doing so. Appearance's sake wise.
"Has Alice stopped talking about the mystery new student arriving today? I can only deal with her chirpiness for so long," the man sighs, behind him he can hear a quiet chuckle from his lover, allowing him to know they agree with him. They love Alice, don't get them wrong, but one can only deal with the Seer before they become tired of her chirpiness and need time to recover.
Before the man can hear a response, he feels the arms wrap around his waist and pull him against them. He fights the urge to smile, it's not in his nature to be honest, but he does lean back against the body. His lover reaches their hand out and runs their fingers through his hair, making the man sigh in comfort since his lover knows just what to do in order to calm him down. It's not fair but then again, the man can say he does the same thing to his lover when they are upset.
"Esme has to go run some errands for her latest client, Royal volunteered him and Alice to go with her. Partly because they love shopping," his lover informs him, and he hums to let said lover know he agrees with what he has heard. He's also glad Royal had the sense to actually think of the rest of the family, instead of merely shrugging his shoulders and telling them tough shit.
"What are your thoughts about the new student? I don't see any reason why Alice should have gotten so excited. Emmett has Tanya up in Alaska. So, none of us aren't mated," the man says, while his lover leans down and presses a kiss on the crown of his head.
"Don't really have any to be honest. Alice's mind always gives me a headache, she only lets me hear it when she thinks it's important enough for me to hear it," lover informs him, shrugging their shoulders and Jasper bites the corner of his lip before he spins and turns to face his lover.
Said lover has the same golden eyes as him, as does the rest of their family.
Said lover has the most brilliant auburn hair that falls in a perfect array on his head, the color of autumn red leaves that are on the cusp of turning brown. Eyes a unique shape, but not too unique. Nose long but symmetrical to his face. Lips plump and always covered with a light rub of strawberry lip gloss because the lover knows how much he wants to consume his lips against his. Fingernails always painted different colors due to his emotion of the day, and sharp cheekbones. Pale skin the same ice lake blue, a sweater that said lover had knitted when he was stressed, comfy winter pants and some random pair of tennis shoes he had gotten from their closet. A golden chain is around his neck but hides the wedding ring that is looped into it, since it's still not legal for two men to get married despite it already being 2005. It's everything the man loves about the other man.
Reaching his hands up, the blond man frowns as his fingers brush against his mate's cheekbones.
His mate lets his eyes close, and his eyelashes flutter due to the soft comfort he receives from his mate. Out here in the forest, alone when the rest of their family goes hunting, they are able to be themselves. Around the others they are quiet, never really showing any true emotions onwards things around them unless they are considered a threat.
"Jasper, I'm here for you. I know you struggle with our diet. I also know you hate how Alice was able to get accustomed to it sooner than you. You have had a difficult time in your life, both when you were still a human and after you became a vampire. You know I had a difficult time too when I left the family before you came along."
Jasper frowns and drops his hands from caressing the face of his love, before he clenches his jaw and turns his attention towards the river instead. His past life before he had become a Cullen (technically a Hale now since he has to masquerade as Royal's twin for the time being due to them both being blondes), has always been a taboo subject ... the life of a Confederate Soldier…no.
"Alright, Edward. We can go back to the house. Is Carlisle at the house or is he still at the clinic?"
Jasper probes, his eyes flickering up to where his tall and sweet mate is.
Edward responds, "he's at the clinic. One of the elderly women had a fall at her house and her family are taking her to the clinic to have a checkup. It's not the first time it's happened, and Carlisle will be there for a while because the family most likely will be arguing on whether or not she should go to a nursing home."
Jasper doesn't say or think anything about what Edward says, instead he retakes Edward's hand and begins to sprint forward in his vampiric speed. Edward laughs behind him and readjusts them before giving Jasper a playful smile, allowing him to know Jasper always tries to do things to be the faster one despite Edward being the fastest in the family. It's alright though, Jasper is the best fighter in the family, they both have their strengths.
There weren't that many tourists that were around the river, some of them were on the tall bridge that looked out to the forest and the clearing in the distance. None of them had seen the two boys that were at the river below them. Good.
Jasper loosens up eventually as he runs with Edward, their hands staying clasped, and fingers intertwined together. Both of them have their hair flow around them and trees quiver from the wind that is left behind their wake. Jasper imagines it's just him and Edward, during those brief hiatus they would take from the rest of the family. They would find a cottage or a cabin somewhere remote and spend the majority of the time either hunting or making love, with only the heavens above being the witness. It's his favorite time, favorite thing about being a vampire and having Edward as a vampire too. They won't have to be without each other. They will always have each other.
The Cullen Residence rests within a large, beautiful meadow, in a crescent shape.
The house has three stories.
The first floor being for the kitchen/dining room, living room, Carlisle and Esme's offices, and a guest bathroom. The second floor has a bedroom for Royal and Alice, Carlisle and Esme, and a guest bedroom for any of their nomadic friends to visit or for when Emmett visits with Tanya. The bedrooms are connected in each bathroom, while there is also a guest bathroom. The last floor has a studio aesthetic to it, an open floor planned with a bathroom, this bedroom happens to belong to both Edward and Jasper. They had insisted on having the third floor, they are the most private ones out of all the family, so it was done without any issues.
The house is in the style of an modern/antique farm style cottage.
The outside is a deep green, while the house has an arched entrance way, with a mud room before one can go through the front door which is glass French style sliding doors. The windows throughout the majority of the house are elegant white framed squares, and tinted so you can look out to the property but outside of the house you can't see the inside. Some of the other windows though are modern, with smooth rectangle squares that go to the ceiling to flooring, those are on the second and third floors of the house but the way that Esme had designed the house it looked unique instead of looking like a total mess. Not everyone could combine these styles together.
After taking their shoes off and putting them under the wooden bench, and putting their coats onto their hooks, the two boys enter the house. Edward, seventeen when he was turned, still has that innocent aura around him while Jasper had been the one who had been turned a few weeks after he had turned twenty. Only three years apart in appearance but Jasper was turned in the Civil War outside of Galveston, Texas and Edward had been turned in 1918 during the Spanish Influenza in Chicago.
The front room of the house is in all shades of white, gray, black, and wood along with sprinkles of nature-based colors. The walls are shiplap, all of them white while the flooring is mahogany wood. The back left corner of the front room is the open floor plan kitchen. A typical fashionable farmhouse aesthetic with the large farmhouse sink, the kitchen cabinets are the color of black while the countertops are patterned tiles–a unique green with white creating a swirly mess. There is a kitchen island the same as the counters and countertop, the upper cabinets are gray, while the barstools are oak backless. The lights hanging above the kitchen island are copper with small flower shaped lights. The middle of the room is a sunken floor with a large brown leather sectional, glass coffee table with multiple magazines scattered across the top and a couple candles in silver candle holders. There is a two-sided white painted brick fireplace resting a few feet away from the sunken living room floor with a state-of-the-art flat screen television. On the other side of the front room there is a spiral wooden staircase that leads up to the second floor of the house, a platform up against the front right side of the room with a piano that belongs to Edward, it has been in the family as long as Edward has been. There are little details here and there which bring out each personality of the family, but neither Edward nor Jasper care to look at the front room of the house any longer. There is a long, oak table that can sit around ten people, with matching oak styled chairs.
Holding hands, Edward quietly leads Jasper towards the spiral staircase to the second floor of the house.
There's not too much to look at honestly, there are photographs which line the nicely gray shaded painted hallway, and a hall round mirror with a decorative oak table underneath it. One of the windows is cracked open at the end of the hallway, sending out a whoosh of cold air throughout the second floor. Edward moves towards the window and shuts it, clicking the lock to make sure the window doesn't open again. Alice has the bad habit of opening the windows and throwing herself out of them because it's easier for her than taking the stairs. It doesn't help that Royal follows her, making sure he fixes his long and luxurious warm blond hair, so it looks good enough for both men and women to envy it.
Going up the stairs to the third floor of the house, both Edward and Jasper sigh in relief at the comfy abode of theirs. The deep, deep green walls with the tall ceilings, the soft gray carpet, the large mattress bed that is resting against one of the walls, without a head or footboard. They have their pillows propped against the wall, while the bedsheets and the comforter are a warm ivory hue. A blanket Edward had knitted a decade ago with multiple shades of blue and green is draped across the bed, it's their blanket they drape over themselves whenever they are in the mood to take naps but aren't able to due to the fact vampires don't sleep.
There are fake plants that are throughout the studio styled bedroom, since there is no way either of them could be trusted with real plants. Neither of them have Esme's green thumb, they've killed too many plants in the decades they have been vampires. They've even killed cacti, so it's kind of a good thing all the plants around them are plastic. There are also bookshelves that have all of their favorite books sorted by their favorite authors, then favorite genre, and so on and so forth. A vinyl record player is propped up on one of the bookshelves, while another bookshelf is filled with all their favorite vinyl's, along with CDs and a CD player, headphones with the CD player of course so they can share the earbuds with each other, listening and holding hands and talking about whatever comes across their minds.
There is also a part of the room that is Jasper's art studio.
There are so many paintings that are of Edward that everyone snorts whenever he's come downstairs with the same shade of red as Edward's hair on his hands or on his cheek. There are also paintings of Esme whenever she is working in the gardens, paintings of Alice when she dances to the music downstairs. Paintings of Esme and Carlisle sitting together in all the different houses throughout the decades, having that look in their eyes no one could reciprocate. Royal has no paintings; the self-centered jerk would claim there was something that was off about the painting (you used the wrong color for my hair! My nose is not that big! You got my bad side, not my good, do it again!)
Edward scoops Jasper in his arms, enough for the older vampire to let out a squeak of protest. He also knows his face would be a blistering red if it were possible, instead his large eyes are even larger, and his mouth is open for a second before he closes it and wants to fold his arms against his chest. He also takes a moment to loosen up but when he does, he smiles warmly down at his lover and reaches his hand out to rub his thumb against Edward's cheekbone.
When it's just the two of them everything is mostly beautiful, and nothing hurts.
They calm each other's demons; they hold each other when the storms come.
They never leave the other's side when something happens to the other, which sometimes results in them staying in their room or in the forest for days on end, almost a week. No one understands them like they understand each other, they are the other half of each other.
Edward sits Jasper upon the bed and crawls upon the bed, Jasper moves back until his back is almost to the wall, sending out another gasp when Edward curls his fingers around his left ankle and yanks him down, making Jasper's hair fly out even more around him in a lion's mane. The pillows fall down and then Jasper's head cascades against the middle of the pillows.
"Edward An–"
Before Jasper can finish saying his name in a scolding manner, Edward leans down so that he blows some of his minty breath upon him. Jasper feels himself arch up off of the mattress without a thought, his mind going back to how many times Edward holds this over him. He knows how much Jasper loves breath play, for them to use their breath when their lungs will never need it. Only for show, but it's more intimate for them since they're putting the effort in for each other, not doing it because it's expected of them to breathe every few seconds.
"Calm down, Jazz. I know that you're concerned about tomorrow, and I have to admit I am too, but I want to just spend some time with you before the chief's daughter arrives," Edward informs him, which in return solidifies the fact that it really is the chief of police's daughter coming. There were rumors, but now it's for certain.
Fine. Then make me forget, make me forget anything and everyone other than you.
Edward's own golden irises darken at the silent words that are spoken in Jasper's mind, and the older vampire smirks at how this is something Edward has always loved the most. For him to be the one who can hear what his lover says to him, secret love notes to him, so he doesn't have anyone else hearing his tranquil voice. Only Edward can hear these words, these words are meant for his lover, for his Edward, no one else.
Edward's lips descend upon his, and Jasper loosens up again as his back arches upwards. Edward's fingers brush throughout his hair, and Jasper barely has time to feel the fingers in his curls before Edward yanks the hair hard enough it stings, and Jasper's eyes flutter open. His eyes land on the sight of Edward still leaning over him, giving him that seductive smirk that makes Jasper both want to fuck it out of him but also to slap it out of him. He doesn't know which he should do when it comes to that red haired boy over him, because Edward will think either one of them will be a reward for him doing something that riles up Jasper.
Edward's hands move away from Jasper's hair and trails down to his chest.
Jasper knows his heart would be rattling through his chest, but he complies to the hands tugging at his sweatshirt. He pulls it over his head, revealing his muscular chest that is lean. Edward's fingers brush up against his pectorals, the little rosebuds against his pallid skin the only type of color upon the young man other than his hair and his eyes. His head goes down and he presses his lips against one of the rosebuds, while his fingers play with the other. Jasper's mouth opens and he takes deep breaths, his eyes landing on the sight of the waterfall in the distance, of the river he had been sullen at.
He doesn't expect though for Edward to snap his head up from his menstruations, his eyes showing annoyance before he rolls them. Picking up Jasper's sweatshirt, he throws it to his lover and Jasper knows exactly the reasoning behind it. They aren't the only ones who are in the house, or around the property anymore. Either Esme had returned home with Alice and Royal or Carlisle had taken care of the whole possible nursing home situation, so he decided to head home.
Both men perk up some when they hear only one door opening and closing, there aren't two others.
So that means it's just Carlisle coming home for the rest of the evening.
The men get up from their bed and wrap their hands together before they descend to the second floor and then to the first floor of the house. Carlisle is standing by the windows that look to the backyard of the meadow, his hands folded together behind him while his golden eyes are staring out into the trees. He has his lips pressed together and there is a troubling expression on his face, but it fades away when he looks to see his sons standing in the front room.
He turns around completely and gives them a small, polite but fatherly smile.
He makes his way towards one of the lounger parts of the sofa and sits down, leaning his head back to look up at the ceiling above him before he rubs his deep blond hair in a stressed manner. His eyes are darker than normal, he hasn't been able to hunt for a while, the clinic has had more patients than normal, and he often forgets to eat at a consistent schedule. It takes either his wife to tell him, or Jasper and his siblings to tell him how long it's been since he had last hunted.
"Where are your mother and your brother and sister?"
Jasper furls his eyebrows, usually Esme makes sure to text him to inform him of anything that is happening in the family, even little things like that. Edward sighs and goes to tell their father only for the phone to buzz, which in return makes Carlisle look down at his phone. He must have had the phone off during work and just turned it on and saw the voicemail his wife had given him.
"Alice was getting on our nerves, when it comes to the new kid tomorrow. Esme needed to go and get some supplies for her latest house project, so she invited Alice and Royal along," Edward explains, earning a nod from Carlisle before he deletes the voicemail. Just another reminder of how chaotic the family usually is.
"Yes, Chief Swan's daughter, I'm sure your sister has been more than thrilled at having a new student here. We're usually the only new kids in these towns," Carlisle comments, his fingers reaching up and rubbing under his chin, most likely he's wondering how things will be different after Chief Swan's daughter will be in the picture.
"At least we won't have to worry about any of us falling for a human. I wouldn't want Jasper to have his first time spoiled by that," Edward states, which in return makes Jasper blink a few times before looking at his mate. He hadn't expected a comment like that, but then again Edward has the habit of speaking his mind. Jasper likes to think of what he has to say before he says it, he's the quiet one in the family.
Carlisle is both surprised at what his eldest companion had said, but he also sighs in another tired manner. "Edward, there is no need for dramatics. I'm happy that you care about Jasper's well-being and his opinion of Forks, but the possibilities you come up with concern me sometimes."
Jasper snorts some, which in return makes his mate turn to look at him.
His precious Edward folds his arms against his chest, his light green painted fingernails a contrast against his pale skin. He pouts some but Jasper leans over and kisses him on the cheek. Allowing him to know he agrees with their father figure and how Edward has the tendencies of coming up with scenarios that would never happen. It only makes Alice on edge because in her eyes even things such as what Edward had said could come true, despite the fact that vampires only have one mate…well as far as history has said.
Jasper has barely kissed his lover on his cheek when the sound of a car pulling onto the pathway that leads up to the house allows all three of them to know the rest of their family has arrived from shopping. He heads into the mudroom and puts on his layers once more, before he walks out of the house with Edward doing the same as him. The two men observe as Esme's state of the art van pulls up all the rest of the way to where she usually parks.
Esme hops out of the van once she's parked, her short and plump figure warm and inviting. Her caramel hair is slightly wavy and falls upon her thick shoulder blades. She has soft motherly features, is always dressed in the current minimalist clothing, always in cool grays and whites and browns. She has on a white turtleneck sweater with designer jeans and some brown winter boots.
When she moves one can see her little diamond earrings Carlisle had gotten her one wedding anniversary twinkle from the small amount of sunlight that peeks through the clouds. Her wedding ring is simpler, a simple diamond ring that wasn't too expensive for the time period Carlisle had purchased it. She's not a flamboyant person, like the majority of the time. She's happy being the quiet and sweet wife of the town's best doctor.
The other people in the van hop out also, one of them being Alice with her short height and obsidian spiky hair that turns in all different angles. Her eyes are quite large too, nose small, lips the perfect Betty Bop shape. She often wears fuzzy neon-colored sweaters from online foreign clothing brands, this color it's a bright bubblegum pink. Black and white checkered jeans, and high-top black converses, and different jelly bracelets on both of her wrists finish off her look. Her makeup is light but sparkly, and her lips are the same pink as her shirt.
Royal on the other hand is wearing a faux gray fur coat that stops right above his hips, a white designer sweater underneath, designer jeans, and some boots that match his fur coat. His deep golden hair is pulled up in a high bun, while his features are quite androgynous. There was a brief time in the 70's where he would travel throughout the country in drag and go by the name Rosalie, he even was able to do this at some of the high schools they attended.
As Alice turns and her own golden eyes land on them, before she starts running towards them, Jasper feels Edward squeeze his hand to assure him everything will be fine tomorrow.
