Chikn slouched his way across the sidewalk, his arms and ears hanging from him limply as he stared at the ground with a miserable expression. He held up his phone and looked through his contacts, specifically his best friend Cheezborger.
Nothing, only his text from six days ago, which Cheez still hadn't answered. Behavior that had become normal for her ever since she and Cofi started dating.
His frown deepened and he put away his phone, whining to himself. He had been ecstatic for Cheez when she announced she and Cofi were official, and he understood that meant they wouldn't hang out as much, but… but couldn't she make a little time for him? He was her best friend, they did everything together, isn't he important to her?
A part of him felt like he was being selfish; Cheez didn't owe him time and this relationship meant a lot to her, perhaps he needed to be patient. But without her, Chikn was feeling all alone. The… burning inside him had grown worse, painful even, even when he was with his other friends. Things weren't the same without Cheez.
'This is what happened with my first friend.' Chikn thought to himself, stopping in his tracks. He stood still for a moment before sitting down on a curb, resting his arms on his knees and staring down at the asphalt. The sun was quickly enveloped by storm clouds that weren't there a second ago and torrential rains began to fall as Chikns eyes watered.
He tried to hold it in but ultimately began to quietly sob to himself, lightning arcing across the sky as Chikn was soaked to the bone. "I just want my best friend back…" He whispered to himself.
Chikn cried to himself for about a minute, suddenly realizing the rain was no longer falling on him. He looked up and found a cat with a white coat, golden eyes, and a curly tail holding an umbrella over him. "Are you ok?" She asked in a gentle voice, her eyes full of concern.
Chikns own eyes widened in surprise and the storm grew less intense. After a moment, he looked away. "No."
The cat sat down next to him, holding the umbrella over both of them even as the rain grew into a light sprinkle. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Chikn was quiet for a moment. "It's stupid."
"It's not stupid if it's bothering you." She scooted closer, Chikn facing her when she placed a hand on his thigh tenderly. "Come on, you'll feel better."
Chikn hesitated but sighed in defeat. "It's just… my best friend started dating one of my other friends and now… now I don't see her as much. Like, at all, she keeps blowing me off to hang out with her girlfriend. I'm happy for her, but I didn't think it would eat up so much of her time."
The cat hummed. "And how does that make you feel?
"Sad, lonely, confused…" He hugged his knees to his chest. "Like I'm being selfish."
"No! You're not being selfish, not in the slightest." The cat said reassuringly. "What you're feeling is completely natural, you feel left out and that you're not a priority to her, anyone would feel the same." Chikn turned to face her. "This is a big change to your life, transitions are always messy. There'll be some growing pains along the way."
Chikn looked away and stared at the street, the rain completely dissipating, but the storm clouds remained in the sky. "This happened before. I'm afraid that I'm going to lose both of them, like I did my first friend." He hugged his legs tighter and retreated into his knees. "I-I can't do that again, I can't lose anymore friends..." His eyes began to water again but stopped when he felt the cat wrap him in a big, warm, fluffy hug. Chikns eyes widening and his worries seemingly melting away.
The clouds immediately disappeared and the sun shone a little bit brighter than it did before, a double rainbow shining in the sky. Everything noticeably dimmed when she pulled away, a wide smile on her face. "I'll be your friend." The world brightened when she said that. "Maybe you'll lose them, maybe you won't. But you'll have me to fall back on if you do." She scooted so their sides were touching. "I'll never abandon you, ok? I know exactly what that's like, I don't wish that feeling on anyone."
Chikn was awestruck as he stared at her, his mouth forming into a large, dopey grin. "I'm Chikn Nuggit, what's your name?"
She giggled. "Well, I've been given many names over my life, but you can just call me Wipped Cweam." She bumped into him playfully. "Got a phone?" Chikn nodded and gave her his phone, Wipped Cweam typing in her number and handing it back to him. "You feeling better?"
"Yeah, I am." Chikn answered as he stared at the double rainbow, deep in thought. "You think I should talk to her, tell her how I feel?"
"No." Wipped Cweam shook her head. "I don't think she'd understand, and if she did she might feel guilty. You don't want that, right?"
Chikn murmured In agreement.
"If you're feeling lonely, just call me up, ok?" Wipped Cweam smiled and stood up. "See you later, Chikn." She gave him a small wave and walked away, Chikn staring after her.
"Yeah, you too." He said mostly to himself. He watched her till she turned a corner and disappeared from sight, pulling out his phone. He smiled when he saw she took the initiative to put her name in his contacts and even texted herself a smile emoticon, likely for him to see. He put his phone away and stood up, continuing on his way with a big smile on his face.
Iscream sighed to themself as they looked through a box of blood bags. It was a much more tedious process for their blood rituals, but relationships required compromises to work, and this was the only way Fwench Fwy would let them perform their blood rituals.
Iscream looked between two blood bags, comparing the two, before suddenly jolting in shock when they felt… something. They dropped both bags and sprinted to the closest window, looking outside.
Iscream didn't see anything at first even as they scanned the entire neighborhood, but stopped when their eyes landed on a goat that wasn't there before standing on the sidewalk directly in front of their house. A goat that seemed oddly familiar to Iscream.
The two stared at each other for a long moment, the goat eventually smiling as if they knew something Iscream didn't and turned to leave. Enraged, Iscream rushed to the door and threw it open, intent on giving the strange goat a piece of their mind. Iscream stopped when they saw the goat had disappeared.
Iscream swiveled their head around for a moment, taking a step forward in a vain attempt to catch a glimpse of where the goat went. They gave up with a huff and went back inside, sitting down and sorting through the blood bags again.
They tried to keep their mind off the strange encounter, but Iscreams eyes drifted back towards the window, unable to shake off the feeling that something bad was about to happen, and that goat would be the cause of it.
AN: Hey everybody, I'm here with my first published fanfiction on the site
This idea had been floating around my head since Chikns depression arc began, and for some reason I decided to write a whole fanfic about it.
A bit of a short chapter, mostly meant to set things up, not much to say other then Im not used to writing agender characters, so remembering to use they/them pronouns for Iscream was tedious.
