"Gabrielle! Are you alright?"
Panic was visible in Fleur's eyes as she frantically inspected every part of her younger sister's body to ensure that she suffered no harm. She let out a sigh of relief when she found no injuries whatsoever.
Despite the ruckus surrounding her, Gabrielle looked indifferent as she seemed to be in a daze. There is no doubt that whatever she just went through in the black lake was anything less than scary, if not traumatic. Moments after, she seemed to have returned to reality as she looked around only to find her sister wrapping a warm towel around her shivering body.
At that moment, she seemed to have caught a pair of emerald green eyes that gave her a soft look. The boy in question looked no older than fifteen as he was skinnier than the others who surrounded him, presumably his friends. He had raven-black hair and a noticeable lightning bolt scar on the right side of his forehead. She immediately caught on his identity. Oh my god, it's Harry Potter. The boy who lived, the boy who killed Voldemort when he was just a baby, the boy who she had read all about in her fairy tales when she was young.
"Harry!"
These words snapped her out of her bubble as a girl frantically ran towards Harry Potter closely followed by a healer with a towel in her arm.
"I'm alright Hermione, just a bit cold"
"Oh Harry… I almost thought we lost you down there…" Hermione cried
Madam Pomfrey then wrapped the towel she was holding around Harry and performed a few diagnostic spells to ensure that he was alright.
"Boy, you are very lucky you know that? Any later you would have drowned and I cannot fathom what would have happened to you. Why must you constantly put yourself in danger! For once, I would like to see you looking healthy and not injured" Madam Pomfrey rambled on for a few more minutes as Harry just gave her a sheepish look and muttered a soft "Sorry…"
Harry looked around him and saw Cedric with Cho who gave him a concerned look in which he returned a soft smile. He also saw Viktor Krum who seemed to be engaged in a serious discussion with his Headmaster in which he assumed was regarding the points awarded for the second task.
Just then, Ludo Bagman stood up and announced that he had the results of the second task in his hand.
"Coming in first place with 47 points, Cedric Diggory! Diggory displayed an excellent performance with the use of the bubble-head charm and reached the surface before anyone else did with his prize in hand"
"Coming in second place with 45 points, Harry Potter! Potter, unlike Diggory, used a gillyweed which allowed him to temporarily grow fins and flaps to navigate the black lake. Not only did he save his own prize, he also saved another champion's prize, showcasing that he's not only a competent wizard but also a selfless person."
Upon hearing that statement, Harry glanced over to Fleur and her younger sister who gave him a thankful look in which he returned with a reassuring smile.
"Coming in third place with 40 points, Viktor Krum! Krum used an incomplete form of transfiguration to transfigure himself into a part shark, part human creature and managed to rescue his prize and reach the surface shortly after Diggory"
"Coming in fourth place with 25 points, Fleur Delacour! Delacour used a bubble-head charm similar to what Diggory used. However, she was unsuccessful in rescuing her prize"
Just then, Durmstrang's Headmaster Karkaroff stood up from the stands and demanded an explanation as to why Viktor Krum received fewer points than Harry Potter even though he reached the surface before Harry Potter did.
Bagman merely smiled and said that Harry Potter displayed an act of selflessness in which no other contestant did and was deserving of the points
Karkaroff merely scoffed at Bagman and dragged Viktor Krum away while everyone else cheered for Harry.
"Harry, that's wonderful! You are now tied with Cedric for first and if you keep this up for the final task, you stand a good chance!" Hermione exclaimed.
"Yeah I suppose…" Harry was not concerned about the results of the Triwizard Tournament as frankly speaking, he never wanted to participate in it. He still had not figured out who entered his name into the goblet of fire.
"Enough! I'm sure Harry and the rest of the participants would very much appreciate some rest after the second task" Professor Dumbledore asserted with the same twinkly look in his eyes.
Harry smiled at Professor Dumbledore's words as he was escorted back to the Gryffindor common room, accompanied by Ron and Hermione.
Harry laid in bed that night with memories of the second task in his mind as he struggled to fall asleep. He took a quick glance at his alarm clock only to show that it was only 2am in the morning, he still had a few more hours before breakfast as he tried to consolidate his thoughts.
Harry knew that Fleur's younger sister was not his "prize" but he could not just leave her behind with the merpeople. He knew that the merpeople were ruthless as he recalled his legs being jabbed by their trident which almost led to him being unable to reach the surface in time. He could not imagine what would have happened to her if he had not decided to save her together with Ron. After what seemed like an hour, Harry slowly drifted to sleep as the memories of the second task seemed to fade away.
Back at the Beauxbaton carriage, a young girl who was just saved by Harry Potter hours ago also laid sleepless in her bed. As she closed her eyes, she vividly recalled a familiar pair of emerald green eyes with a look that made her yearn for more. It was no secret that Gabrielle had a secret crush on Harry Potter since she was a child. Her mama would read her a bedtime story everyday without fail and for the most part, the story mentioned the boy who lived in one or more instances. Ever since then, Gabrielle has taken a liking to the boy as she would constantly throw tantrums so that she could listen to more than one story about him every night. As Gabrielle recalled memories of her childhood, she felt a pang in her heart as if someone was tugging on it. She brushed the feeling off without much thought as she slowly fell into a slumber after a long day. Little did she know that feeling was the beginning of something she knew little about.
