Luz awoke her head was groggy."Man I really got to learn to hydrate to avoid these awful hangovers." She said as she looked to her side to see Amity perfectly asleep in bliss. Not wanting to disturb her, she was careful to climb out of bed. As she climbed out she made her way to the coffee machine. She really could use the burst of caffeine about now. As she did she realized she didn't have any water bottles. Not wanting to use the tap she remembered seeing a sign for a vending machine right outside their room. Carefully she made her way out gently closing the door so as to not disturb her beloved wife. It didn't take long to find the vending machine and after 2 dollars she had a bottle of water for her coffee. As she returned to the room she heard Amity whisper in a soft voice"Come back to bed batata." Luz smiled and gave Amity a kiss on the cheek
."Morning sweet potato I'm making coffee you want a cup." Luz said. "Ok i'll have one 2 sugars please." Amity said as Luz poured the water in the machine. After adding the pouches of coffee into the proper insert she turned the machine on and within a few minutes 2 hot cups of coffee were ready to go. The smell of the coffee wafting through the room was enough to get amity out of bed. " One of my favorite things of the human realm is the smell of freshly made coffee." Amity said as Luz handed her the cup.
Sipping it slowly the warm liquid was a godsend. "What's on the schedule today Luz." Amity said, sipping her coffee. "Don't you remember my sweet potato. We are going to the beach." Luz said, taking a sip of her coffee. "Oh right, I almost forgot." Amity said. "Well, let's get ready. I'll get dressed in the bathroom you get dressed out here. Remember to put on your swimsuit and some clothes over it. I want to head out for the beach as soon as we finish breakfast." Luz said and they were quick to get ready. As Amity was slipping on her shorts she heard a call from the bathroom."Amity can you come in for a second." Luz asked and Amity walked in and saw Luz wearing that bikini.
The sight of her beloved wife in that Puerto Rican flag bikini was making her mind go wild. "Wow you look amazing in that batata." Amity said, making Luz blush. "You think so btw could you help by tightening the strings in the back im having a bit of trouble." Luz said. Amity obliged and redid the string making it a bit tighter." Thanks Amity, that's much better." Luz said as she then put on shorts and her tank top. After packing their beach bag the two went down to the breakfast buffet…..
30 Minutes later….
Luz and Amity left the buffet with full bellies."Wow those waffles were great." Luz said."I know so much better than those frozen ones your mom buys at the store. What are they called? Egos." Amity said as the two walked towards the concierge desk. "Amity, you have your ID right." Luz asked. "Of course I do but why do you ask?" Amity said. " To rent a car you have to be 25 and your 25th birthday has already passed." Luz said Amity understood and got out her ID and their credit card."Hello welcome to the enterprise, rent a car at the caribe Hilton how may I help you?" The man said. "Yes we would like to rent a Jeep Wrangler for 8 days." Luz said. "Of course may I please have a valid Id and your credit card." The man asked as Amity handed over both. "Ok i have one 4 door 2019 jeep wrangler in black and it's $50 a day is that ok." The man said. "That will do." Amity said as the transaction was soon complete and the man handed them the keys. "Here you ladies , it's in the adjacent parking lot, enjoy." The man said as the two walked off towards the parking lot. It didn't take them long to find the jeep. Luz hopped in the driver seat as Amity climbed into the passenger seat."Amity, pull out my phone and put in directions for walmart. I have to grab a few things before we hit the beach." Luz said as she pulled out of the parking lot. Amity put Walmart in the phone's gps app and after a few minutes they arrived. "Ok you stay in the car I won't be long." Luz said as she went into the store. About 10 minutes later she came back with a shopping cart with a bag of ice, a case of Medalla Light beer, 2 bottles of gatorade and a bag of salted plantain chips."Ok Amity put luquillo beach in the GPS ." Luz said as she loaded the car before climbing back in. Amity put it in the phone and the two sped away towards the beach…..
1 Hour Later…..
After getting stuck in traffic the two arrived at Luquillo. Luz and Amity climbed out of the Jeep."Oh wait before we hit the beach let's put sunblock on. The last thing either of us want is sunburn." Luz said. "Good thinking Luz now i'll go 1st." Amity said as she took off her outer shirt and shorts revealing a black 2 piece swimsuit .As Luz looked upon her wife She began to blush."How did I get so lucky to land such a beauty for a wife." Luz said as she dug into their beach bag for the sunblock."I could say the same to you. Now you're gonna apply that sunblock or what." Amity said as Luz pulled out a can."Ok Amity close your eyes." Luz said as Amity was confused." Luz why are you putting on bug spray?" Amity asked. "No Amity, this is the sunblock. I always hated the cream as a kid so when they came out with the spray I made my mom switch to this." Luz said as she shook the can.
"Are you sure that's even safe? I heard Gus read some bad things about stuff in spray cans." Amity said as she suddenly was trying to avoid the sunblock.``I see what's going on. You want the cream bec i have to rub it in and you get a massage in the process." Luz said."Um.. No that's not why." Amity said unconvincingly whilst blushing. "Sure, now close your eyes sweet potato." Luz said as amity obliged and Luz coated her in the sunblock before rubbing it in. Once Amity was done it was Luz's turn to get the sunblock on and after that the two made their way from the parking lot to the beach. Before the beach was a row of eateries ranging from the low end to the pricey with a gift shop or 2 mixed in. The air was full of all sorts of food smells as well as the sound of reggaeton .As they passed this and could see the beach Amity spotted a quiet section of beach."Luz, look it all clear over there." Amity said before Luz stopped her."No Amity. When I used to visit my uncle Hector told me to never go to a section of beach where there weren't any locals." Luz said as the two looked they saw a sign warning of rip currents. As the two left that stretch of beach they saw another area which was well full of people. The two made their way over there finding a clear section to lay down their towels. " Amity my love, would you like a cold refreshing can of medalla light?" Luz said."Why of course batata." Amity said as the two layed down on their towels to soak up the sun.
"So how about we soak up the sun for an hour before we hit the water." Luz said as Amity nodded as he two lovers soaked up the Caribbean sun enjoying their cold beer and the occasional plantain chip. After an hour the two had gotten some good sun. The two got up and made their way to the water. As Amity made her first steps into the water she was surprised at how warm it was."The water is perfect." Amity said."That's the Caribbean water for you. It's never cold." A man said swimming past them.
The two began to swim as they enjoyed the water to the full extent swimming back and forth. After 30 minutes Amity felt her stomach rumble."Hey Luz i'm hungry and the plantain chips aren't gonna cover it let's grab a bite to eat." Amity said."Of course Amity." Luz said as the two swam back to shore. As they reached their spot on the beach."Hey Amity you stay here while I go grab us some grub." Luz said as Amity nodded in approval.
Luz quickly dried herself off and made her way to the eateries by the parking lot. Looking around they were all sit-in places. As Luz reached the end of the stretch of restaurants she saw a couple food carts. Approaching one she saw the man was selling pinchos de pollo. Taking out her wallet she asked for 2 pinchos. "That's 4 dollars." The man said as Luz handed him the money and he gave her the food. Walking back to their spot Luz was shocked to see a drunk tourist harassing Amity."I told you for the last time I'm married now fuck off!" She said, visibly pissed.
" If you're married then where's your ring?" The man said as he was still trying to get with Amity." I'm at a beach you moron. Why would I bring it and risk getting damaged by the salt water or losing it. It had to be a complete moron to go into the water with a ring of this value." Amity said as she was about to explode."Of course and your spouse is gonna magically appear." The man said before Bam! Luz had kicked the man in his nads." If I see you harassing my wife again It's going to be more than your balls that are gonna need healing." Luz said, visibly pissed as the man retreated.
"My hero." Amity said, making a kissy face at her beloved Luz."Well now that dick is out of the way lunch is served." Luz said as she handed over Amity her food."Luz what is it?" Amity asked."It's pinchos de pollo marinated chicken skewers coated in a guava BBQ sauce." Luz said as the two began to eat their food."Oh my titan Luz this is so yummy." Amity said as she took a swig of medalla light. After a few minutes the two were done when Luz heard a man shouting"Limbers! Ice cold limbers!" Luz turned to see a man with a push cart. It brought back a vivid memory. "Daddy can I get one pwease! " A young luz said. "No you can't, young lady." Manny said. Luz's head went down."Not by yourself that is." Luz began to smile as her and Manny went to buy a mango Limbre to split…. "Luz are you ok?" Amity said as Luz had zoned out for a good minute or two."I'm ok let's go get some Limbres." Luz said taking Amity to the man's push cart
."Luz what is a limbre?" Amity asked. "They are like popsicles but in a cup and they are flavored using traditional fruits." Luz said as they went up to the man." Hello ladies, what can I get you?" The man asked. "2 limbres. A mango for me and what do you want, Amity?" Luz asked. Amity looked at the options."I'm gonna be simple and just take the cherry." Amity said as Luz paid the man and the 2 were given their frozen treat."Enjoy ladies." The man said as he made his way towards another section of the beach. The two returned to their spot and enjoyed their snack holding hands as the sun began to set…..
Later….
Luz and Amity had returned to the hotel showered and got dressed to hit Atrévete Bar & Café for karaoke night. The two opted for a cab not wanting to deal with driving after some heavy scene was vibing as girls heavily drinking were singing their hearts out. Some in English and some in spanish. As they walked in they ran into Rita and Mariana."Hey you two how was the beach?" Rita asked."It was wonderful. Besides a drunk gringo hitting on Amity." Luz said."Really? What happened?" Mariana said."Luz went to grab some food. This drunk guy walks up and starts hitting on me. I tell him I'm married but he isn't taking no for an answer. Luz comes and sees this and kicks him right in his huevos then tells him off." Amity said as Luz. "Damn you emasculated that gringo." Rita said."You mess with my Amity you mess with me." Luz said.
"Hey, how about we get you two some drinks, on us." Amity said as the couple nodded. Luz quickly returned with 4 mojitos."To our happy relationships, salud." Luz said as they drank their cocktails. "So why don't you tell us how you two met." Rita and Amity looked at each other. Unsure how to tell the story without exposing the demon realm." Well It's your run of the mill enemies turned friends turned lovers thing." Luz said."Oh come on there has to be more." Mariana said as she finished her mojito."Not really nothing special at all. Now why don't you tell your story." Amity said, hoping it would take the discussion off of them." Well I was born in Puerto Rico and Rita is from the states." Mariana said.``Wait you…" Luz said before Rita interrupted."Yes I'm from Ossining New york." Rita said,"I grew up in Gravesfield CT." Luz said."Gravesfield I have a brother who moved there." Mariana said."Now back to the story dear." Rita said."Oh yes Rita moved to Puerto Rico after Dalmau introduced programs to bring in people with high value skills. She is a nurse. I was his press secretary at the time. So I go to my physician for a check up and there's this pretty girl assisting him. We chatted up. But I didn't know she was into girls until a week later I saw her walk in here. One thing turned into another and we started dating a month later..Though it was challenging at 1st with her dad not liking me" Mariana said."Why didn't he like you? Was he a homophobe?" Amity asked."Oh no he was fine with that he hated i was an independence advocate. Before Rita's family moved to New York they were ardent supporters of statehood and the New progressive party" Mariana said."Oh I see. Wait, go back to earlier, you were the governor's press secretary." Luz said. "Yes I left due to stress issues. Now I do Public relations for a local microbrewery though I still have contacts in La Fortezla." Mariana said.
As the four chatted and had more and more drinks the woman overseeing karaoke asked"Anyone else want to go." Amity looked at Luz and said.``Why don't you give it a go you have a good voice." Amity said.``Nah Amity i'm not good besides I don't sing outside of the shower." Luz said, trying to weasel out of singing.``Come on Luz. Tell you what I'll sing if you sing." Amity said as Rita and Mariana joined in trying to convince Luz.``Okay but you go 1st Amity." Luz said as Amity walked over to the karaoke machine. Telling the woman what song she wanted she grabbed the mic. She began to sing in her drunken state.

As Amity finished the song the bar applauded before Luz walked over to the mic. Thinking very carefully she decided what song she wanted. Telling the woman she grabbed the mic saying" I want to dedicate this to my loving wife Amity."

The bar patrons roared in applause as Luz went to sit down next to Amity who gave her a kiss. "That was very good. Your singing voice isn't as bad as you made it out to be." Rita said. Luz thanked her and the group spent the night chatting about their lives, interests and their families. As Luz and Amity were about to leave, Mariana stopped and asked to exchange phone numbers." Next time you two hit up Puerto Rico we can show you stuff that is off the beaten path." She said Luz obliged and the 4 exchanged numbers before Amity and Luz made their way back to the hotel.
