Ch 1 Tonks! 1
A hand was pressed into her hand. Slowly she looked up at Albus as she shook his hand. "Thank you Nymphadora for joining the Order of the Phoenix," he said in his grandfatherly voice. Tonks looked around her as she shook the hands of all the members. Mad-Eye and Kinsley Shacklebold were a surprise for her. She had thought she would be the only Auror here. Still, seeing her mentor Mad-Eye here gave her a good feeling. She had been debating whether to join or not. Albus had asked her in a letter. He asked her to come to Hogwarts because he had something to discuss.
While she looked around the table she thought back to that day. She was standing before the great doors of Hogwarts. It had been almost five years ago when she left this place to start her career as an Auror. With her Metamorphmagus ability, she was sure she could go all the way and even had a plus to work for them. When she stood here she knew that this ability had also been the reason why Albus wanted to see her.
She walked through the now-empty castle. It was only yesterday that all the students were sent home. She knew all about the death of Cedric Diggory. It was a shame to lose someone so young. It was all because of that damn tournament. In the past many people have died so to have one lose his life here this time. That wasn't that surprising but it still hurt when they were so young. While she made her way up to the office of Albus she let her mind go back to the time she had walked these hallways.
"Nuts," she said as she stood in front of the gargoyle. As it slid away she could see the stairs and started to climb them.
"Nymphadora I'm glad you can make it". Albus said as he saw the frustration on her face when he said her name. He had always known she hated it and he always loved to frustrate her with it. It was his little moment of joy. "Please sit down," he told her as he looked at how she sat on the chair a little frightened. "I asked you here to ask you something very important. You see I have restarted the Order of the Phoenix
. It was a group I had fighting Voldemort the first time".
The moment he said the name of the Dark Lord he could see her jump up. It was the same reaction everybody always had when he said it. The only one he knew who didn't react that way was Harry Potter. It was that that frustrated him a lot. Because he just couldn't understand why they were all so afraid of the name. "During the last war, we did lose a lot of people that time" and he showed her a picture of the group.
Tonks looked at them and only knew Mad-Eye. She also saw her boss Amelia with Sirius black. They looked friendly to each other but that could be because they had to pose for the picture. She saw James and Lilly Potter. Her mother had told her they had visited them often but she could not remember. She even saw her father in the picture but she never knew he had been there.
"I see you see your father in the picture. Now he never was in the order full time but he did help us out a lot in the legal department. The same can be said for your boss Amelia Bones" Albus told her as she saw her looking. "Now Fudge don't want you all to know but Voldemort is back" Again he saw her jump at the name. "That is also why I asked you here. I'm restarting the order back up and I'm getting people to join me. I do have a lot of older members but I need some fresh people. So I was wondering if you wanted to join the group".
Tonks who was still, looking at the picture looked up. Before she could answer Albus held up his hand. "Now I want you to think about it. We will be dealing with Death eaters and you might wind up in a fight or two. Now before you say yes, please go home and think about it. I will send you a letter requesting you to show up at a place. When you do it will be a yes to joining the order. If you do not show up then you don't. I will not think any less of you but I do hope you will join me in my fight".

Tonks was still looking around the table while her mind was going to the last couple of days. It was yesterday that she was asked to come to this Muggle neighborhood. It was there she saw Albus in his purple robe. Why he thought it was hip she would never know. But she was here for the order so she just waited for him to tell her what to do. He didn't do much and only showed her a little piece of paper with some words on it.
When she read it she heard some rumble and looked up as a house appeared from out of nowhere. "welcome to the headquarters of the order of the Phoenix" Albus said. "If you would go in you can meet the others while I wait on the next". Tonks nodded and walked in. When she stepped in she pulled her wand and pointed it at the head of Sirius.
"What are you doing here" she screamed as the tip started to glow. Sirius just held up his hands in surrender.
"Let him be lass," Mad-Eye said from behind her. Tonks was one of his best students and he knew she would still listen to him, even if she was a free spirit. "He is innocent and I will explain later. Now we go to the kitchen and wait on Albus to tell us what we have to do".
Tonks followed Mad-Eye to the kitchen and looked around. She saw Kingsley and a bum she had arrested at least ten times last year. The last she thought she would see was Minerva McGonagall or that slime Severus Snape. The last one was the one almost all of the young Aurors hated. She was glad she had a mother who was a healer or she would have never passed her newts in potions. Just as she was about to ask something there was a lot of noise in the hallway. A woman was screaming and something like a stampede was running ahead of her. One after another redheads walked into the kitchen. She was sure it were the Weasleys and some random girl she didn't know. Well, she thought she knew them from Hogwarts. There was a story about a professor who was killed by Harry Potter. It was his first year and her last. She never paid attention because she was struggling with her exams for that year.
It was then that Albus walked in and the kids were sent away. "Thank you all for joining the Order". Albus started and he smiled his twinkling eyes on all of them. "As you all know Voldemort is back. Now the ministry will tell us he is not but we know better. Harry Potter has seen him and I believe him".
"Albus, you might believe him but was it true? He could have seen things that weren't, really there. He could have thought he saw them when he went through, whatever he went through" Kingsley asked.
Tonks looked up and was glad he asked the question she wanted to ask herself.
"I know it is hard to believe Kingsley, but it is true. I asked him a lot of questions and I will ask him to show us the fight when I can bring him here. I also have another person here who can tell you he was telling the truth. Now if he isn't telling the truth then we have nothing to be afraid of. This group will stop but it is never wrong to be prepared".
That last part was what made Tonks believe that Albus, really did believe what Harry had told him. She also knew that it was just making sure he had some kind of defense before you needed it. She did wonder who the other person was that told him. So she kept her mouth and kept on listening.
"As you can see we have Severus Snape here. He was a spy in the group of Death Eaters for us in the last war. He is also here to do that part again".
Tonks needed every bit of power in her body to not pull her wand at Snape. For him to be a spy, meant he was one of the Death Eaters to begin with. She also wondered why he was a spy because he wasn't old enough to be in the war when it started. Or he would have been playing that part when he was still in Hogwarts. Something just didn't click in her mind. She at first thought he would say it was true but Albus just went on.
"He can tell us he is back for real and I trust him".
At the last words, Tonks frowned a little. I don't trust him so I'm not going to just because you say you do, She thought.
"The next we have here is Sirius black. He has given us his house to use for the order. I can also tell you that he is innocent and that Peter Pettigrew was the one who betrayed the Potter to Voldemort".
Tonks knew she was missing a lot. But how could Sirius be innocent while he has been in Azkaban for eleven years? While she listened to half of what Albus was telling them. Her mind went all over the place. She had missed while Arthur and Molly were here or Minerva. She again paid attention when she heard Albus telling about Remus who was a werewolf. He was sitting next to her and she could keep herself from jumping away from him out of fear. She knew it was not necessary but she almost did it. Now that she was looking at him she could see that he was handsome in his own way.
She shook her head it was no time to get butterflies for someone this old. Hell, she was here to fight Voldemort not thinking about what she could do next. With her ability to change into whoever she wanted. A lot of boys wanted her to turn into their special woman. With shame in her heart, she could say she had done it now and then and she hated it.
Slowly she sat up as Albus started to explain the things he wanted them to do. Just when he was about to start there was a knock on the door. They all stopped as Ron walked in with a snowy white owl. Tonks remembered that owl because she had seen it in her first year. It was the most beautiful owl she had ever seen. She never thought it was the owl of the Weasley's.
"I got a letter from Harry".
So the owl was the owl of Harry. Tonks thought again as she looked at how he unfolded the letter. She was wondering if he was just going to read it right here to all of them, and he was.
Dear Ron.
How are you doing, I'm not doing well.
How are things there at the burrow is your family fine?
Are you protecting yourselves, now that Voldemort is back?
What do I do if he stands in front of my door with his men?
Do I fight or not?
You know that I Already have a warning for underage magic.
I know they do not believe me when I said it was a house elf.
But do I fight or not?
Please tell me what I can do. Please ask your father for me.
Greetings Harry.
The mind of Tonks was still going everywhere. As she listened to the letter she thought about what she had heard in the Auror office. Harry Potter had been there when Cedric Diggory was killed. Some were saying he had done it. Some were saying he had made Voldemort up to explain it for himself. Others just didn't know. She knew that whatever it was. Harry had seen one of his peers die in front of him. and this letter was clearly, a call for help. She was just about to say it when Albus responded.
"I do not want you to respond to him, Ron".
"What" Tonks whispered, as Hermione said it out loud.
"Harry needs a lot of rest and he needs some time to deal with all the things that have happened. He not only needs to be by himself, but he also needs to be isolated so that the Death Eaters can't find him. It is also while all of you are here in the safe house".
Before Ron or Hermione could say something Molly stood and pushed them out of the kitchen. "Don't say anything and just listen to Albus. He knows better than you and if he says you do not respond to Harry then you don't".
To the surprise of Tonks, both teens nodded. She did not know why but she would never ditch a friend like that. Again her mind went back to the time she had been at Hogwarts. There those three were one unit so why did they let Albus order them like this?
"So now that we have all the members together" Albus went on making Tonks snap out of it. "We have a couple of things we have to do. First, we have to get information from the ministry" and Albus looked at Kingsley. Tonks was glad he wasn't looking at her because she wasn't going to for him. "The second thing is preparing us ourselves for another war with Voldemort". Tonks shook her head while she thought no shit. "The third thing we have to do is to protect something in the ministry".
Tonks eyes almost dropped from her head. Why do we have to protect something in the ministry? What could be more important than making people believe Voldemort is back? "I'm sure there are more important things to do than to watch something in the ministry. What could be so important" Tonks spoke up.
"That is something I can't tell you. That information is very important and it needs to remain a secret for as long as we keep it" Albus told her. Tonks opened her mouth but before she could say something else Albus stopped her. "You do not have to think about it because I have another task for you to do. I want you to keep an eye on Harry during the day. With your ability, you could follow him when he is outside. Every day you can be someone else. In that way, he will never know you are there".
Tonks was without words, as she heard what Albus wanted her to do. He wanted her to babysit a boy who already defended Voldemort once. If the stories were true and he had seen him at the end of the past school year. Then he has beaten him a second time. Why did they have to watch him?
"You will be helped by Remus, Mad-eye, and some of the others. Mad-eye will do the night and you will do the day and evening when you can". Albus stood and looked around the table. "This will be all for tonight. Tomorrow morning, Mad-Eye will bring you to the house of Harry. It will be your first duty and we go from there. Now you all get a good night's sleep before we go on" Without another word Albus stood and left the house. He was followed by Severus Snape and Minerva McGonagall.
Some of the others of whom she didn't remember the names went away also. So as Tonks looked around she crossed eyes with Sirius. "You are innocent" she snapped.
Sirius just nodded as he smiled at her. "I have always been Nympha".
"Don't call me that" Tonks snapped.
Sirius held up his hands in surrender and just smiled a little at Tonks. "How is Andromeda doing". Tonks just looked but didn't know what to say. Sirius seemed to know it and patted her hand. The moment he did she pulled hers back. "Tonks I'm, really innocent. I never betrayed the Potters. I could have but Never Harry. You see I'm his Godfather and I did the blood adoption and everything. James and Lily stood on it. They said that if I needed it he could be my heir".
Tonks placed her hands on the side of her head and slipped her fingers through her hair sliding them all the way, to the back as she shook her head slowly. Her mind had been racing all over the place from the moment she walked in. She knew that what she had to do for Albus was for the greater good but everything told her it was wrong. "If you are his godfather. then why the hell isn't Harry Potter here with you". Sirius just blinked a couple of times. "Well, if you are innocent you would have been clear, but yet you had a stay in Azkaban for eleven years".
"Tonks I never had a trial, but Albus is working on it," Sirius told her.
Sometimes Tonks could not keep her Metamorphmagus ability from leaking out. So this time her eyes, really became as big as tea cups. "Let's get it straight. You fave escaped two years ago. Harry saw you at the end of his third year. At least that is what Amelia had heard". Sirius nodded that she was right about that. "So Albus has known of you from that time, he has also known you have been innocent from that time". Again Sirius nodded but didn't know what he could say. "What the hell has he been doing then. He is the chief warlock of the Wizengamot".
"Tonks, the minister has given the order of kiss on sight to the Dementors. It made it harder for him to do something. Also after Voldemort came back people don't just believe him on his word".
Tonks rubbed her face and mouth in frustration. "He is the chief warlock. If they believe him or not he can get you there and order a hearing under Veritaserum, And Voldemort came back only a couple of months ago, so he had a year to get you there".
The jaw of Sirius dropped just like the one from Remus. He wanted to say something but Molly came back to the kitchen. When most of the Order had left, the others went to the rooms Sirius would give them to stay in. "Let's talk about it another time when we are alone" Sirius whispered to her.
Tonks nodded but she wasn't happy. She gazed at the clock on the wall and saw that, it was just past dinner time. So to get the most out of her evening she decided to go back to the office and get rid of some paperwork. Just before she left she hung closer and whispered. "If I'm right you are the Lord black. With that title alone you could have requested a meeting yourself, even a trial I think, or at least a hearing".
#*
The moment she left Sirius looked over at Remus. He didn't say the words but he could see that Remus was thinking the same thing as he was thinking. "Don't believe her Sirius" Molly told him as she looked at him from the counter. "If Albus could not do it then he can't. You do best to trust him on his word because he knows best".
The mind of Sirius was going from left to right. He nodded at her without thinking. When her words came into his mind he got another thought. How did she know, did she listen at the door or what?
"Now you will better go and wash your hands because I will be serving dinner in thirty minutes," she told them.
Both Sirius and Remus stood as they left the kitchen. When they were in the hallway Remus looked at him and stopped him with his hand on his shoulder. "Did we just get thrown out of the kitchen?" he asked.
"I think so, I even think she is taking over the house, and I'm not sure if I like that idea. I'm also thinking about the things Tonks told us. Can it be true? Could Albus get me into the Wizengamot with his position alone? Could it also be true that I'm Lord black"?
Remus didn't know what to say and just looked at him and lifted his shoulders. Sirius took off and rushed to the one room where he knew he could get an answer. In that room was the tapestry of the Black family. Remus could not get all the way, into the room, because it was only accessible to the people with black blood. As he gazed at his father he could see that he indeed had died a couple of years ago. He looked at himself but there was no Lord Black under his name. The tapestry would update itself. So if he had become Lord black it would have told it. So he looked at all the other male names but there wasn't a Lord Black anywhere. The one thing he did see was the names of James and Harry. But Harry didn't only have a line to his father. There was another line that went to him. "I'm not Lord Black, But Harry is connected to me," Sirius told Remus as he looked at him.
Remus was still standing in the doorway looking on. He was as smart as Lily so he connected the dots faster than Sirius would. "You can only be Lord black if you accept the position. Harry is connected to you because he is your son by blood adoption. He is your heir until you have a son of your own".
Remus could see that Sirius was thinking hard. "I have been in hiding almost a whole year. When I got back and Albus got me into Hogwarts he told me my father had died. He also told me I could get into Grimmauld's place to hide. He also told me I couldn't go out because of the kiss-on-sight order. Do you think he is keeping me here just to keep me hidden?
Remus got a pained expression and didn't know what to say. Everything looked like Tonks could be right. But then again she could be wrong and then Albus would be right. Sirius walked out of the room and to the Black Library. When he walked in he was just in time to stop Hermione from taking a book. "Are you crazy? These are Black books they are all cursed for people who do not have black blood" he screamed at her.
Hermione pulled back her hand in fright and looked at him. "But, they are just books".
Sirius pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head a little. "Hermione, Books in a pure-blood house are almost always connected by blood. In a dark pure-blood house they are almost always cursed. Those curses are deadly".
"Books need to be free, you can't keep them from people we have a right to know" Hermione started to scream.
"STOP IT" Sirius screamed back. "You have no idea what you are talking about. Those books are dangerous and full of black magic. Not all books are to be trusted. I will look at them and see if I can find one for you. But never go in there again". Hermione folded her arms as she was pushed out of the door. Sirius shook his head again as he turned back to Remus. I don't have any problems with muggle-borns. But Lily had the decency to ask something before she did something".
"Not every smart Muggle witch had the brains like Lily. Hermione is the smartest witch of her time, but she lacks the common sense to realize that the wizard world is something else. Sometimes it can be dangerous but she just doesn't see it that way. I would put up another ward because she will try it again, I am sure of it.".
Sirius looked at the door. He gave a little sigh and pulled his stolen wand from his pocket. He hated this wand but the ministry had snapped his old one. He would get another one but he couldn't until he was found innocent. With a tap, he placed a new ward that only let people walk through the door with Black blood. "So, done". Sirius went into the library and looked at the books. He wasn't as smart as Lily had been so he had a hard time finding the book he needed. "Remus come help me". After a couple of minutes, he looked at the door and saw Remus still, standing there smiling at him. He didn't say a thing and only pointed at the door. Sirius gave a deep sigh and went on looking. He knew Remus could not get in because he wasn't of Black blood. It was then he saw it and took it from the shelve.
Remus saw him rush out and followed him all the way, to the top floor. He knew Sirius had taken this floor because he wanted to be alone and as far away from the others. When he got to the room he saw the Hippogriff with the name Buckbeak standing in the corner. When he sat down next to him at the desk he saw the book for the first time. Wizengamot laws from 1298.
Remus didn't say a thing as he saw how Sirius was flipping frantically through the book. "Aha". Remus smiled as he saw the smile of Sirius when he had found what he was looking for. "The Lord of the house has the right to ask for a hearing if one of his members is held in custody".
"You are not held in custody Sirius," Remus told him. You are on the run".
Sirius just turned back to the book and started to flip through it again. Tonks had been right about something. So she must have known more. He had found the one law to get a member from his house a meeting. Not to find the part to get himself the meeting.
"Sirius".
"Not now Remus, I'm looking for the law to get the lord out of this situation".
"Sirius".
"What can't you see I'm busy".
"Sirius".
"What, Remus, WHAT".
"You first have to go to Gringotts to take the Lord's ring. Until then you are not yet the Lord Black".
"DAMN, I have to get to Gringotts first".
"DINNER TIME".
"Can that woman shout any harder?" Sirius said when he heard the voice of Molly from all the way downstairs". Remus just laughed as he heard the frustration in the voice of Sirius.
#*
They went into the kitchen. and found all of the Weasley family stuffing their faces. Sirius wanted to say something but then he remembered that he was hungry. He took a plate and dug in. He wanted to say a lot but this was so delicious. After about thirty minutes they all rushed out of the kitchen leaving Remus and Sirius alone. "Albus has done a great job to get them here, didn't he? I should just listen to Albus and stay here to keep myself safe".
"Sirius" Remus started but stopped when he saw the glazed look in the eyes of Sirius. It was clear that Molly had placed something. No Sirius was right. Albus knows best and Sirius should just stay here to be safe.
This was it for the first chapter. I hope you all liked the start of this story.
Thank you for reading.
