Ok everyone, Enjoy
Jaina felt the familiar wave of magic wash over her as she transported herself from her tower in Theromore to the temple of Elune within the summit of Mount Hyjal. Ever since the last war against the legion, she and a handful of others were granted permission by the Night Elves to be able to visit whenever they desire, not really a reward but more of a way to show how much trust they were given. Something she and all others who were given it were sure to not abuse and so it is not used often, in fact this would be the first time she herself has every used it.
The magical energy around her disappeared and she found herself facing the familiar large rock face that took up the area around the summit, though she did have to admit that it seemed... brighter than it should be this time of day, but she didn't think too much of it. Turning around she smiled at the many different Night Elves who simply glanced in her direction before giving her a nod, then returning to their duties. Just behind where she teleported was the temple dedicated to Elune and she calmly made her way inside.
Though she had to admit, even she was surprised, it wasn't just the Night Elves that were here. She could see many different Tauren who were clearly druids working along sides some of the Night Elves, it wasn't uncommon for druids of all races to work together as they were always more focused on nature and the betterment of the environment then politics. But what really surprised her was the number of all the Gnomes and Dwarf's, not something she would expect to see here.
She was well aware that word had spread that Kal had set up his home here and it was only expected that some would be curious but she didn't expect this. What was even more surprising was the sight of High Tinker Mekkatorque "Gelbin" she said to the smaller man as she approached.
The leader of the Gnomes turned away from his entourage and towards the mage "Lady Proudmore, so good to see you again" he said with a smile.
"You too High Tinker" she said back "but I must admit I find myself surprised to find you of all people here" she admitted as the two neared each other.
The Tinker let out a quick laugh "oh, I can see you haven't heard about Azeroth's latest settler" he quipped cheekily.
Jaina herself let a small smile come onto her face at his words "I know about kal, I've spoken to him before in Orgrimmar"
Gelbin nodded at her "oh, fantastic then" he smiled before looking at her confused "then you must know why I am here, such incredible feats of engineering" he trailed off and for a moment it seemed like he was speaking to himself "imagine what we could achieve if he could teach us his ways"
Jaina on the other hand seemed confused by his words "engineering?" she asked allowed "are talking about those... solar panels he wanted to build for the Orgrimmar?" she asked him.
The smaller man quickly turned to look at her with a confused face "no... but I would very much like to know more about that as well. No Jaina, I'm talking about... well, see for yourself" he gestured to the path that led around the temple and towards the entrance of Mount Hyjal. Taking the Gnomes words to heart, she moved away from him and around the temple. She didn't know what to expect when she looked at the other side of the summit, when word spread of a large fortress of magic, she expected maybe a tower or a castle. Honestly, she thought that maybe it would be somewhat familiar.
It wasn't.
She was blown away by what she saw, her jaw dropped at the sight. She has never seen anything like this before. It was huge and seemed to make of many different glowing blue crystals all placed together, she could understand why some would call it magic, for a moment even she did as well. But then she remembered her conversation with Kal and what he thought about magic, or lack thereof in him. The fortress seemed to take up the complete the other half of the summit and when she tilted her head and tried to look over the top, she could see that it went further away and went down the mountain.
Thankfully it was clear where the entrance to the place was as just on the other side of the pool that contained what was left of the Well of Eternity, was a great door that had a large 'S' in the middle of it. It was stationed just after a large archway that seemed to go over the pool slightly. Though when she looked closer she could see why Mekkatorque would want to be here, at least she thought she did. It could be for anything about the fortress but she was going to put her money on the two large machines that stood still just before the main door, two golden figures with large weapons that she would not want to fight against.
"Amazing, isn't it?" Mekkatorque asked her as he moved to her side "just think of all the things we could learn from him"
She was about to open her mouth and retort, but no words came to her, she didn't know what to say for a moment before she was able to use her experience in politics to regain herself "have you not approached yourself yet?" she asked him.
The Gnome leader shook his head "I arrived only a few minutes before you did and I was trying to convince my guards that I will be fine though it's proving difficult to calm them when I will be walking towards two very impressive but no doubt powerful war machines" he explained.
Jaina nodded in understanding, that was one of the reasons she travelled alone if she could help it. While she did appreciate the seriousness her guards had towards their duty, it could get quite tedious at times "Well, I wish you luck with that put I do have a message that I need to give him" she told him before making her way forwards, towards the pool and the small walkway around it which would allow her to move towards the door.
"Oh, that's a great idea" Gelbin said, interrupting her before she could "I'll just tell them that I'll be with you" he smiled "surely me being in the company of a powerful Archmage such as yourself will be enough to calm them. One moment"
Jaina was about to speak but stopped when he started to walk away, she really did have a good relationship with the High Tinker but at the same time she needed to give this message, though she would be lying if she said that her own curiosity about what was in front of her and what Kal told her the last time they spoke wouldn't be getting the better of her slightly. She started to look into some of the concepts he spoke about, mainly the artificial pocket universe. Even going as far as to consult her new handmaiden, the former guardian and mother of Medivh, Aegwynn.
A woman who is for all intense and purposes, one of the world's most foremost magic users and even she has never heard of such an idea. A mage could create a small space outside of reality and occupy it, which in itself is an incredibly advanced piece of magic. Something not even masters couldn't do without much preparation. According to her, the only confirmed space such as that was under the care of Malygos and his Blue dragonflight. However, when Jaina mentioned the space was an entire universe, that seemed to bring the older mage up short and claimed such an feet was impossible.
She was so deep in thought thinking about it that she didn't even notice Gelbin coming back to her until he let out a cough "ready?" he asked her.
She quickly turned to look at him before reigning her composure "yes, let's go" the two walked side by side, Jaina not having to slow down as to not leave the smaller Gnome behind her with her normal walking pace but it seemed that his smaller legs took long strides beside her.
It wasn't even a few minutes before the two found themselves walking under the large outgrown archway and moved towards the door. Though perhaps they should have expected what would happen next, when the two reached the halfway point between the door and the pool. The two machines moved as one, they raised their double ended swords and great shields. Jaina may not be a warrior herself but she knew a guarded stance when she saw one "HALT" one of them said in a loud voice as both she and Gelbin froze mid step "IDENTIFY!" they demanded on them, it was hard to tell which one.
She and Gelbin both gave the other nervous look before she decided that she should be the one to talk considering she's the one who spoken to Kal before "my name is Jaina Proudmore and this is Hight Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque. We're here to speak with Kal-El" she spoke in the loud and commanding tone that was used in politics.
Neither of the machines moved, not even slightly as she finished speaking and for a moment, she considering that going for her staff may be the best idea. Then that idea was put to death by the rest of her brain, for she very much doubted that she would be allowed to make a draw for what is basically a weapon while these things had their own trained on her. Thankfully neither of them had to do much as a small hatch in the ceiling just before the main door opened up and small silver ball slowly lowered itself out of it and looked at the two with a blue circle that could be confused with an eye.
The small ball slowly moved over towards the two before stopping and looking at him "Greetings" he said with a more human voice and a little spring in it's... step? "I am Kelex, I am the Artificial Intelligence for the house of El. What is your current purpose here?" it asked them.
The two gave the other another glance before deciding to speak "I'm here to deliver a message to Kal from the king of Stormwind" she answered calmly, though she was anything but.
"And I am here simply for the chance to have a conversation with the man who is capable of creating such marvellous technological feats" Mekkatorque said with his usual cheerful voice.
"I see" Kelex said as it remained in place for a moment and said nothing else, Jaina and Gelbin both had no idea what to do or say for a moment and thought that it would be best to simply allow Kelex to make the next move "Master Kal is currently in his study" Kelex answered as the large door behind him opened up behind them, giving the two their first view of the inside of the fortress "please follow me" Kelex said as he turned around and moved further in.
The two followed but not before giving the two large machines a final glance as they returned to their normal poses. When the two first entered, they were blown away by the beauty of it all. The stars and galaxy's decorating the sky, the paintings that seemed to be lifelike enough that it seems that one could crawl into them and be a part of it yourself, the large statues or four people that seemed to all have a hand raised they held up a world and of course the water feature that led into many small streams that went across the floor that they needed to step over.
Kelex led the two over towards the left of the hall that didn't allow the two time to properly admire the décor, though Jaina did make a mental note to ask Kal if she could come back later to look at the think more properly later. There was a loud thud behind them, and they didn't need to turn around to tell that the door closed. As they left the hall, they walked down a corridor that wasn't too dissimilar from a cave with how all the walls and the ceiling looked "Kelex, I feel I simply must ask" Gelbin started as the three walked... no, as two of them walked and Kelex floated ahead of them "what is this structure made from? I've never seen crystal like this before. Even the Draenei seem to have different ones to this"
Kelex let out a little hum before he decided to speak "the primary building block for the Fortress of Solitude is created from a crystal native to master Kal-El's home world, the closest translation in your language would be 'Sun Stone' it is a highly durable sub-straight that can be shaped using an accurate sound frequency" he told them as Jaina glanced down the many different corridors that seemed to pass, she couldn't see much. In fact, she would be right to say that this... Fortress of Solitude? Was nothing more than a bunch of connecting tunnels
"You use sound as a method to shape a high-density crystal? Amazing, I can't wait to ask more about it" the smile of Gelbins face almost made her chuckle out loud, though she was able to get control of herself before that happened.
The three walked for another could of minutes without much changing before Kelex came to a stop. They didn't reach the end as Jaina could see that the corridor continued onwards, and they turned to the right but with Kelex not moving, they didn't either.
It looked like Kelex was in front of... something. She didn't know what but there was a small section of the wall that was different from the others, while the walls on the way down seemed to be made of one solid piece, not unlike a cave. What was in front of them now however, this seemed different. It had a dozen different lines running from the ceiling and too the ground, she was about to ask what was next when each of the pieces of crystal in between the lines all turned completely transparent giving them a clear view inside.
Kal was easy to make out as he was the only occupant of the room, granted he was wearing something completely different from when she last saw him. If anything, at the moment he looked downright normal, she would even say that she could have mistaken him for any random man she would see walking around Theromore or Stromwind. Well, apart from the handsome face and large muscles but she pushed those thoughts to the back of her head.
The study itself was not what she was expecting, in her experience a study is usually more homely, or cosy at least. This room on the hand was large, made up of the same bright crystals as the rest of the structure, there were no book shelfs, but she could see a handful of different... things, she didn't know what to call them but if she had to guess, then she would say some type of machines based on the buttons in front of them and the screens above them. In the middle of the room and just in front of where Kal was standing was a large circular... she was about to say table but again she would have to say a machine, though this time it was because of the large projection of a world it seemed to show that lit up the room.
She was so lost in thinking about the room that she nearly didn't notice Kelex float forwards into it. Nearly. Which allowed her to be amazed at the fact that the wall that just became transparent didn't just do that but it disappeared completely, allowing them to pass.
"Master, Jaina Proudmore and Gelbin Mekkatorque are here" Kelex said as the two slowly made their way through the... doorway? Though it went without saying they looked closely at the sides as they did so, scared that it could appear back at any moment.
When stepping through they were able to turn their attention back to Kal who turned around and looked at the two with a smile "Jaina. So good to see you again" he smiled at her as they stepped towards him, he then looked down at the Gnome "I don't believe we've been introduced" he added.
"No" Gelbin shook his head "we most certainly have not" he walked forward and offered a hand to Kal "I am High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque. For all intense and purposes, I lead the Gnome people. It is truly an honour to meet you in person, there is much I would like to speak to you about"
Kal gave Gelbin an easy smile before he reached out and shook his hand "it's a pleasure to meet you as well, please call me Kal. And I believe Jaina mentioned your people when we last spoke, I have been meaning to see your own home, but I got too distracted" he locked eyes with Jaina for a moment before took a couple of steps to the side allowing the two of them to see the hologram of the planet "but I don't think I can be blamed for that one, I knew this world would be interesting but I never imagined this" he said with an almost childlike excitement "Earth never had anything like this, I mean to think I celestial body having a completely separate celestial body inside of it" he walked up to the each of the table and started to press some of the buttons.
Once again the two looked to each other with a look of confusion before they turned back to him "What do you mean?" Gelbin asked this time instead of her.
Kal's eyes looked back to him before he frowned and looked to Jaina "wait, you don't know?" he asked them with a look of shock.
"Know what?" Jaina asked as the two took a step forward to get a closer look at the image of their world.
Kal stepped back around the holo-table and stopped in front of the two, he had a tight smile on his face, his eyes where full of wonder and he brought his hands together in front of him, tapping his fingers to together slightly. To Jaina and Mekkatorque he looked like a large child that just found out there was a present waiting for him. Though when he finally spoke, nothing would have prepared them for what he said "the worlds an egg"
Silence.
They had nothing to say to that and for a moment they had to check they heard that right "I'm sorry, what?" Jaina said as her head tilted to the side, her face holding one of complete confusion.
Knowing that he would need to explain a little, Kal stepped back and moved around the table, pushing some buttons as he did so. The two visitors looked as the image of the world got smaller allowing them to see it more clearly "Once I set everything up here, I wanted to clear my head so I went flying. Something I like doing and I thought it might be a good idea to see the world I'm on a little closer" he turned away from the table and looked at the two "so I went up just past the atmosphere to get a better view of everything, that's when I saw it" he pushed a button without turning away from the two.
But they both looked at the world, the large land masses faded away, what was left was three completely massive purple masses spread out across the entire planet "the Old Gods" Jaina whispered but loud enough for the others to hear her. Despite her best efforts, she wasn't able to quell the fear in her that sprouted up in her gut, she knew that the Old Gods could never be truly killed and knew that their bodies where beyond their mortal comprehension but to see it for herself. It was terrifying to see with their own eyes.
"hhmm" Kal nodded at them "yeah, I am trying to think about the best way to get rid of them but I'm starting to think that it can't be done without causing irreparable damage to the planet" he explained "but that's not what I was telling you, I was talking about this" he pushed another button.
Jaina suddenly became glad that her staff was on her back because if it was in her hand she would have just dropped it. Right there in the middle of the planet was a being, it was a woman, she had an almost ethereal quality to her with her blue skin and dark hair that rolled off of her in waves, she was wearing a type of golden armour that covered some of her body though with a white cloth covering the bits in between, she couldn't tell how much based on the position that the large body was in.
"What... is that?" Gelbin asked with a voice full of wonder and amazement.
Kal smiled back at him before speaking "I have no idea?" he shrugged "but from what I've been able to get from it, this thing, whatever it is, is the reason why there is so much magical energy in the world, it's all coming from her" he pressed another button and this time, the world faded away completely and the two got a better look at the figure and they could see that something was pouring off of it like steam off skin when one would have a hot bath "I've been trying to find out more about her but at the same time I don't want to get too close, I don't know enough to risk anything. If I do something wrong, she might... wake up" there was no doubt of the ominous tone he had.
Upon hearing those words, their eyes went even wider, and he didn't doubt that upon seeing the figure they may have forgotten what he said about the world being an egg. Not that it really was a simple egg, it was clearly more complicated than that but he wanted to be simple with the explanation, so they understood what he was getting at "if she wakes up..." Jaina trailed off and seemed unable to continue the sentence.
Gelbin on the other hand seemed more the capable of finishing it "I don't think it's possible for an egg to hatch without being destroyed in the process"
"But..." she tried to process what was being said around her before she looked back at Kal "people need to know about this, the council of Dalaran, the Horde, the Alliance, everything. Kal, would you allow be to tell everyone about this?" she asked him with clear worry in her voice.
"of course" he smiled at her before he walked to the side of the room to one of the smaller computers, bending down slightly he reached for a small handheld device "take this" he handed her the small tablet which she took with slightly shaking hands, it wasn't too noticeable, if he where anyone else he wouldn't have seen it "all you need to do is push that small green button at the base" she did so at his instructions and soon the same image of the world appeared hovering over the data pad "and you keep pushing it to go over all the images. Unfortunately, the images are all it has as I haven't had much time to get all the data yet" she took it and quickly pressed the button going over all the images before it reset on no image at all.
"Thank you. I need to get this to Dalaran" that was when she turned around and started to make her way back out the way she came.
"Wait" Kal called out for her and she stopped before turning around to look at him "what did you come here for?" he asked her.
Jaina's eyes widened as she realized that she forgot the reason she was here in the first place "Oh, right, of course" he quickly took a couple of steps forward towards him and stopped when they looked closer "Kal-El, you have been formerly requested to come to Stormwind and have an audience with king Varian Wrynn" she gave the message with a formal voice and calmly placed both of her hands behind her back "upon the request of the king, you may come to Stormwind at your earliest convenience to meet with him in formal talks about the possibility of joining the Alliance"
Kal's eyebrows rose as she spoke, no doubt surprised by what was being offered to him. Though before he could speak properly a small chuckle escaped from Gelbin as he crossed his arms "this is why I like Jaina" he started, turning to Kal "she's very good at translating king Wrynn's orders and making it sound like a request"
Que Jaina giving him a deadpan stare which seemed to shut him up as he looked down to the ground tightly closed mouth. Kal looked over to the mage however "Orders?" he asked back.
Dropping the formal posture, Jaina let out a sigh as she spoke more commonly "when the king found out about what you did in Silithus, he ordered me to find you and bring you to Stormwind so you could talk. I assume it's because he thinks you're human and so a part of the Alliance. Ergo, you answer to him" she started to explain "though he is misinformed" she quickly added "not a lot is known about you yet, least of all that you are from another world completely. So, while I very much expect King Wrynn to be his... hot headed self. I do think that once he knows who... what you are, he should become more diplomatic with you" she explained.
Kal tilted his head to the side slightly as he placed both his hands on his hips and took a breath, in truth he knows he would need to go to this human settlement eventually. And dealing some hot head in a position of power wasn't something he hasn't done before, there were so many he's delt with in the past. He turned around and looked at the image of the world again, pushing a few keys on the dashboard. The sphere shape turned into a flat image "and where's Stormwind exactly?" he asked her.
Jaina looked at the image before she moved forward and pointed "right there, if you arrive the guards should allow you in without too much trouble. Anyway" her eyes quickly widened as she looked back down to the device in her hand "thank you for letting me in to your home, it's beautiful. If it's alright I would love to come another time and really see it all more closely and of course continue are discussion about where you came from and how you arrived here. But I have to summon the council of six and inform them of this" without waiting for a replay, she turned around and made her way back outside.
The way was opened for her, though she did seem a little hesitant going through it much she did coming in before. Kelex was on the other side of the door waiting for her, no doubt to escort her out.
"Anyway" he turned to Gelbin before he continued "was there anything in particular you wanted to ask about?" he said with a small smile.
The High Tinker gave him a very bright smile "of there is much I would like to ask you about, but I know it would be quite rude to ask so soon. For now, would you allow me to enquire about those fantastic little machines you have that are patrolling the boarders of the Night Elves?" he said.
Clark smiled back at the smaller man, finding his attitude quite endearing and he couldn't detect any deceit coming from him "that should be fine, why don't we go to the refinery? I'll walk you through the process" he started to make his way forward with the High Tinker following close behind him.
Kal held both his hands in front of him as he flew over the ocean towards his target, something he could see a couple more dozen miles in front of him. It's been two days since Jaina had given him the message that the king of this city wanted him to have. He would have left sooner but he found that Mekkatorque had a thirst for knowledge that took a long time to be quenched and even then, it was only he said that he would go to the Gnome city and talk to some of the more high-ranking members of his people and give what was basically a lecture.
Not on anything too important, he wasn't going to tell them how to build nukes or war machines. From what Gelbin said he wanted his people to get a more basic understanding of using technology without magic to act as a part of it. Something that he could understand given his own hesitant around magic.
But he could think about that another time, for now he had another meeting he needed to think about. The city got closer and closer until Kal was forced to fly a little higher in order to avoid fitting the row of ships that were stationed in the docks. The cape flowing behind him as he did so, which to draw more attention from the people on the ground. He had to admit, the city was an impressive sight, not New York or Shanghai impressive but it was a city to look at. He could see that the city was separated into a handful of different sections that also seemed to have building made of different colours.
He didn't know who thought that was a good idea but he kind liked it and he could understand why someone would want to build a city here, it was right on the water so you have access to the see and it looked like it was in the middle of a gap in a mountain range so the only way to take it would be going through the ocean or a frontal assault with no way around. He didn't know how the first Horde was able to take the city during the first war, either the Horde must have been incredibly powerful or the defenders where just bad at what they were doing. Within the city itself, there were many different buildings but he could two that really stood out. One was in the middle of the city and had the build of a church, the other was up against the side of the mountain and he could easily tell that must have been the palace.
Moving over there he started to head down right in front of the main entrance which was behind a large pair of stairs, a fountain and statue of someone he didn't know. Based on what Jaina told him he wanted to be as recognizable as possible as to not make things confusing for the guards, so he wore his suit and carried his golden weapons. He landed on the ground with some force and created a gust of wind that drew the attention of everyone around him. All the guards acted quickly and drew their weapons and called for reinforcements. Kal just stood there and let them do it, he didn't draw his own weapon or make any moves.
Within just one minute, there was a small circle of guards around him, not within touching distance at least but close enough to see all their facial expressions in between the gaps of their helmets without needing to use his abilities to help him "Stand down!" a loud voice shouted and while the guards didn't lower their weapons, they did step aside and created a small gap, allowing the one who spoke to come closer. A fighter, that was easy to see, he seemed to be a middle-aged man with longish brown hair and a beard. He wore full plate male armour along with a sword and shield, though he didn't have them in his hand at the moment "may I have your name" he said to Kal as he stopped at the gap the guards made.
"Kal-El" he introduced himself "I was told by Archmage Jaina Proudmore that king Varian Wrynn wanted to see me" his voice was loud and firm, it held a level of authority that he was able to acquire from his time in the war over. While it was enough to get the men around him to glance at each other.
It was also enough for the one who came out from the palace to give him a hard glance before he looked to the guards around him "stand down" much like before but this time it was much calmer and the guards all lowered their weapons "follow me" he said to Kal as he took a step to the side allowing him to pass. When he reached the man they walked forward into the palace together "My name is Bolvar Fordragon, I'm the commander of the Alliance military forces. I understand that you are the one to thank for our victory in Silithus" there was a small note of thankfulness in his tone and maybe a little adoration "but make no mistake, I do not care what kind of power you may possess. If you pose a threat to the king or son then I will do everything that I can to ensure you are neutralized" he placed a fist on Kal's chest and stopped walking, causing Kal to do the same.
Kal himself has met many different people like him in the past and there were many different ways that one could deal with them. He couldn't help it, but when he could sense the magic coming off of him in small waves, he was immediately put into the category of threat and Kal did a small mental exercise and thought about what the best way to kill him would be. But he also knew that it would not be the best looking of first impressions to the Alliance if he killed a high-ranking member of said Alliance. In the end he settled for a simple nod which seemed to do the trick, the two walked for a few moments until they entered what he could only assume was the throne room.
It was a large room and Kal was almost tempted to call it a hall, on either side of the entrance where corridors that led to two completely different areas of the palace, he was sure he could check where if he really wanted to but at the same time he wanted to get back into the habit of trusting people more often. The people of Azeroth for all intents and purposes are a blank slate, they could have many good and many bad people among them. He would like to treat them all with some degree of faith before he treats them with worry and if he must fight them. Bringing his mind back to the present, he looked directed opposite him and saw the man that must have been Varian Wrynn.
He was an imposing figure, Kal could see that much immediately and he bet any normal person could as well. The man was tall, he would say he is the same size as Kal himself though bulkier with muscle, with brown hair on his head that went down to his eyebrows and was tied in a tail behind his head. The armour he was wore was large and Kal didn't doubt it was heavy, it was many different plates of strong metal but if one thing was clear and no one would mistake it would be that this man was a member of the Alliance. If it wasn't the blue and gold colour combination, then it would be the large eagle on the left shoulder and the lion head on the right.
As the man sat in his thrown, his hands moving slightly over the front of the arm rests, a large sword was standing next to his knee, the tip of the blade placed gently against the ground while the very edge of the handles pommel was held calmly in his hand, of course this wasn't mentioning that the sword's main blade was made of two completely separated smaller pieces that seemed to be held together by nothing, though it took him only a moment to see the magic coming off of it.
As Kal followed Bolvar to the centre of the hall, the man stopped in order to kneel down for his king. Something that Kal did not follow him in doing, there were many other stationed around the hall, some guards, some official looking people and some others who Kal assumed where maids and while the conversations where never the loudest, all of it stopped when they entered the room "Your highness, Kal-El" Bolvar announced more than loud enough for everyone to hear him.
Kal himself simply looked at the king and calmly starred back, giving him a cold and calculating look. Something he would have noticed Kal himself give the king the second he stepped into the hall but stopped just as quickly when he got what he needed from him. Bolvar quickly stood up and moved forward to stand by Varian's side on the right of the throne "You asked that I be brought here, why?" Kal simply asked him.
Varian was quite for but a moment before he spoke "I wanted to see if the claims were true" his voice was strong and harsh "when I heard of what you were capable of, that you were able to hold back the attack of an Old God after you used your own power to wipe out most of its army" he gave his head a small tilt and pursed his lips "I thought you worth meeting at the very least. I don't recognize the name... Kal-El, nor do I know any like it. Where is it you hail from exactly? Altera, Kul Tiras, Stromgarde" he started to list places Kal has never been to, only seen from the maps that the Night Elves gave him "are you a survivor from Lordaeron perhaps? And if so where was this power when the Alliance where being overwhelmed"
He stopped speaking and Kal took a couple of moments to think about the best way to go about this, well it was a couple of moments for him. For everyone else it was about a second "neither, I'm not from Azeroth and I'm not human" before the man could retort and it was something he would defiantly do based on the way Varian's eyes widened slightly "as you know my name is Kal-El, but I'm not human, my people are called Kryptonian and I come from a world very far from this one" there were a couple of different ways he could go about this but a part of thinks that it would be easier to say that he was simply from another planet and not from a completely different universe, he doubted he had the time to teach so many people the concept of a multiverse.
Upon hearing the news, many different people around him had their own reactions to the news he just shared. Many gasped, some looked to each other is disbelief, the king however, he simply narrowed his eyes at him. Balvor leaned forward, no doubt the whisper something in the kings ear but Varian spoke before he would hear it "is that so" he said calming all around him down, it wasn't a question, that much was clear though that didn't mean Kal wouldn't treat it like one.
"Yes, it is" he said back just as calmly.
"From my advisors have told me, you've set up your home on the peak of mount Hyjal. A 'Large fortress of crystal'" that was definingly a quote from something "a very peculiar place, wouldn't you say?" he asked him with another calming tilt of the head, though it was all too easy for Kal to see Varian slowly turning his blade in place with his hand.
"Personally, I found it to be quite beautiful" was all Kal said in response "provides quite the view of the surroundings areas"
The response was quick "does that include the Horde capital of Orgrimmar by any chance?" Balvor spoke from the king's side.
'ok, this is a bit much' he thought to himself as Kal was never one the political speaking, he hated doing it on Earth and he's going to try and avoid it here "that's enough, ask me what it is you want to ask me" from the way he said it, it was clear that was no question either.
Varian's eyes narrowed at the sudden question, though he couldn't tell if it was because that someone would ask him something so informally or if it was because it was clear sign that he wouldn't be doing whatever he was asked. That was when the king stood up from his throne, he didn't take steps towards him nor did he grip his sword in another way so it was still pointed towards the ground "You arrived to help the war effort in Silithus, along with you was the Night Elf General of the sentinel army but you leave with the Horde and are not seen for weeks, then we receive word that you are not only creating a home on the border between the Night Elves and the Horde" he started to walk forward towards him, his eyes narrowed but Kal did not react as the large man came towards him "and the final point, you seem to helping the Horde, developing technology for them, in exchange for what? Nothing?"
There was a lot of tension in the hall when he finished speaking, all the guards spread around placed their hands on their weapons. Varian on the other hand didn't move an inch as he starred at Kal, something that was returned to him. Kal was easily able to see what the king was getting at and he didn't like it and also not having the patience for it "how about peace" he said back calmly as he took a step forward himself, the two not even a few feet apart anymore "I do this for the Horde, they no longer need lumber so they leave Ashenvale alone, from there no more fighting the Night Elves" the explanation was brief and it explained all the important parts "I built my home on mount Hyjal because high priestess Tyrande said it was ok and since I am right in the middle of the Horde and the Night Elves. They can't attack each other in any major offensive without me knowing and stopping it"
It seemed that was not want the king wanted to hear and his eyes narrowed even more "would you? Go out of your way to stop a war you have no place in?"
"When innocent people are placed in danger, I make it my place" that was when his own voice hardened much like the king and for a brief moment Kal was half tempted to give the king a slight shove with his hand, not to dissimilar to what he did to Bruce when they first met all those years ago, a slight shove for him but enough to knock the king across the hall and back onto his throne. Based on the way Varian was frowning at him, he was thinking something similar. He could understand that, it was the same back on Earth. Government leaders and the like hating it when he and the rest of League got into their business when people were placed in danger, worrying that they would lose their own small fraction of power when they did.
"That's enough" a new and definitely female voice spoke out and echoed throughout the hall, both Kal and Varian turned to the direction it came from, standing in the middle of the entrance to one of the three corridors leading to the throne room was a woman. For a moment Kal thought she might have been a Night Elf but decided that she wasn't, though she was tall with blonde ears and a beautiful figure, her ears where different. Yes, they were long but they were also more pointed and thinner than the ears he's seen on Night Elves. Her clothing was also different to what he's seen before, it was bright red and clung closely to her body, not trying to hide to the two sharp daggers attached to her waist. Without any hesitation she moved forward into the middle of the hall, right up to the pair of them and placed a hand on Varian's chest "this is not what we discussed" she said with a scolding tone.
Varian starred her down for a moment as and after a moment he let out a breath and nodded to her before stepping back. Kal himself looked at her as she turned to face her "Kal-El, my name is Valeera Sanguinar. I act as the bodyguard to King Varian Wrynn" she introduced herself "you'll have to forgive his majesty" she said as she looked back to the king whose eyes landed on the floor "it's been a very trying couple of days, one of the reasons why we asked that you come here was because we would ask for your help" she said getting straight to the point, something Kal could appreciate.
"With what?" Kal asked back as he reached up and crossed his arms.
"The crowned prince" Bolvar spoke as he too took a couple of steps forward himself "has been kidnapped, we've only just recently been able to find out where he was taken and have sent a strike force to get him back. The problem is that he's been taken to Kalimdor within the Dustwallow Marsh. A very vast area of wetlands that are swarming with dragonkin and all manner of creatures. It will take just as long to clear that area out if not longer, that's without taking Onyxia into account"
He understood about one third of that statement but from the way the king was looking at the ground, he could understand why he was being so hard him. If he was going to go out and look for his son then he wanted to know that he could be trusted with it. Kal himself has never been a father but he's seen the look on the kings face many times and understood how much pain he must be in "I'll do it" he said quickly, earning a surprised look from everyone present "I'll find your son and bring him back"
Varian starred back at Kal with a look of anger and suspicion "why..." he started but stopped as he closed his eyes and took a breath "why would you do that?" he asked him.
Kal lowered his arms from their crossed position and stared back "because When innocent people are placed in danger, I make it my place" he repeated the statement he made not even two minutes ago. The two humans and elf all looked to each other before nodding.
"If you do this, then there are some things we should discuss" Bolvar said as he directed the group to one of the side corridor and they started to make their way down there.
He was expecting many different things when he was taken prisoner, to be killed, beaten, or even eaten. Though what never really thought about how hot it was. He knew that he shouldn't be thinking about this but he couldn't help it. As the prince of Stormwind, Anduin Wrynn was held with hand restraints over his head up against the wall behind him. It's been a couple of days since he was taken by Onyxia, a black dragon. Even now days later it still shocked him to think that a child of Deathwing, Neltharion himself was within their mists for so many years and they had no idea.
Looking around himself, he could see the discarded plate that the guards had given him, still holding food on since he refused to eat. He wouldn't give her the satisfaction, he knew why she was feeding him. All he had to do was look around where he was and see it, all the eggs around him. Each one nearly half the size of him, he was going to be their first meal, he refused to be fattened up for their pleasure.
He had to get out of here, that much was certain but he had no idea how he would do it. Until he looked down at the meal again. It wasn't anything special just a piece of meat on the bone 'a bone' he thought to himself. If he did this right, then he could cut the restraints. The only problem being that both his hands were tied so how would he get it. He acted without thinking much, looking down to his feet, he could see his ruined boots. Kicking them both off he reached forward with his toes, thankfully the bone was exposed as it usually was with sticks and drums. Not caring that the still raw meat felt discussing on his skin, he leaned forward allowing the restraints to tighten and giving himself room bring his leg up behind him.
Anduin had to grit his teeth in an attempt to bring his leg high enough behind him to fit into his hands. With a final huff he was able to do it, standing back up to his full hight he started to squeeze and tare the meat off the bone which only took a couple of minutes. When the last piece of it fell, he grabbed the bone in both hands and gave it a tug, which did nothing. He closed his eyes and let out a frustrated sigh, maybe he would need listen to his father next time he talks about training. Once again he found himself gritting his teeth as he tried to snap the bone in half.
When he finally did, he almost dropped it as a result. Now having two sharp pieces to deal with in his hands he got to work and began to start slowly slashing at the rope that was binding him. As he did this, he also started to think about the best way out. Looking around him, he could see what must have been dozens of different eggs all spread about the area he was in, which was basically a trench undeath the primary chamber of this cave. Where Onyxia herself currently was sleeping, no matter what he would need to be quite in order to not only avoid the eggs hatching waking up their mother.
He made one final slash and the rope gave way and he fell to the ground, he took a couple of deep breaths as he looked to the hot ground around him. The cracks in the earth showing pools of magma not even a few feet away from him, he knew that dragon eggs needed heat but not this much. He picked himself up and carefully started to make his way back out the way he came in. Doing everything he could to avoid the eggs around him, knowing that knocking them or even a drop of sweat could cause them to hatch.
It took him a few minutes before he made its way out of the trench and started to climb his way towards the central chamber. Slowly poking his head out he turned both ways and his heart sank as he saw the large sleeping form of the black dragon, turning to the other direction he could see the entrance to the chamber and just beyond that was the exit of this place. He knew that he should have been carful, he knew he should have taken his time but when he saw the exit. He ran, he ran as fast as he could, his child mind not being able to stop himself from acting on emotion and panic.
Something he would come to regret as he found his bare foot caught in one of the cracks in the ground, his toe's tip dipping into the magma just for a moment but it was enough. He let out a quick but loud yelp "AAHH!" he shouted as he rolled onto his back and brought his foot as close to his face as he could and started to blow on it, gripping it in both hands.
"You dare" a voice hissed from in front of him, he stopped blow on his feet and slowly looked up. His heart sinking into his chest as he did so. His eyes started to water as he saw the large red eyes staring at him from across the cave "To think, the dear little prince thinks that he could escape me" the large form of Onyxia lifted it's up off the ground "after all the work I did as well, such arrogance" she hissed "you think yourself like your father?" she asked as the deep chuckle escaped. Through his watering eyes Anduin could see a light begin to admit from her chest "then you can burn just like he will" she opened her mouth and a torrent of flame came rushing towards him.
He screamed and brought his hands and legs together, trying his best to make himself as small as possible, in some hope that he knew was vain that he could protect himself. He didn't even feel the ground shudder around him or the shaking in front of him followed by a loud thud. He could feel the heat wash over him and expected death, all he could do was scream in fear.
But then death didn't come, he could still feel all his limbs and he still had them all. Daring to open his eyes at what it was that happened, he looked back to the brood mother of the black Dragonflight but to his surprise, found that he couldn't. His sight was blocked by a figure he didn't recognize, he was tall, wore strange clothing and seemed to have a golden weapon on his back. When he tried to look in front of him, he could see a wall of fire that went above him to the ceiling and moved on either side of him to the cave walls. It was like there was a magical shield keeping them safe. When the fire dissipated, he got see the dragon looking at them, the rage on her face was only getting more and more intense... he thinks, it's hard to tell with her in a dragon form.
"And who are you?" the dragon hissed at him.
The man didn't say anything back and Anduin looked on in amazement as he moved forward and within the blink of an eye, he was in front of the dragons head, his hands grabbing a handful of her large nostrils, then kept going. The large dragon let out a roar as her body was lifted off the ground and slammed into the back wall of the cavern. The man quickly dropped the body and while the black dragon tried to find her feet from under her, her head must have been hit hard as she quickly fell on her stomach.
The man looked to Anduin and before the prince could utter a word, they were gone.
Kal made an effort to be careful when carrying other people as flew, he had too. If he didn't then their bodies wouldn't be able to handle the extreme G-force that comes when flying as fast as he usual goes. As he moved quickly, wrapping his arms around the scared kid who he could tell had been crying. He moved as fast as he thought the boy could handle without being hurt and out through the hole he came. They moved through the ceiling and when they made it out of the giant stone dragon head 'god knows why she thought hiding there would be a good idea' he thought to himself as the went up into the sky. He slowed down.
He decided that it would be best to get the kid out of the area first before anything else and so he slowly started to move south "Anduin, are you alright?" he asked him.
As they flew, the prince slowly lifted his head up from Kal's chest and looked at him with wide eyes, he didn't say anything for a moment. Simply nodded slowly at him. Kal gave him a gentle smile until he found what he was looking for, just past the marshes there was a large mountain formation that seemed to keep this huge marsh separated from the others. Moving over there and landing on top of one, his feet gentle hit the ground and he could tell the princes did as well. He let out a small shake and Kal knew that the shock of what just happened was starting the ware off "Hey" he started as he stepped back and kneeled down, wanting him to feel more comfortable around him "your father sent me" his eyes widened as he heard the news "it's going to be ok, I need you to wait for me. I need to make sure this can't happen again" he placed a hand on the boy's shoulder and looked into his eyes "I need you to stay here for me, right here and not move. Can you do that for me?" he asked him.
The boy simply nodded at him but Kal knew that he was doing everything he could to not break down "Why don't you sit down?" he suggested, Anduin didn't so much sit down as he did fall down on his butt and Kal had to reached forward in order to stop him and gently lowered him. Knowing that it wouldn't be a good idea to leave him like this, he instead sat down next to him and wrapped an arm around him. It wasn't even a few seconds later that the prince started to let the tears fall and he latched tightly onto Kal tightly.
He simply let it happen, he's had a lot of experience dealing with kids and this one was very brave to hold on as long as he did, when he first arrived he saw that he was able to free himself from the restraints and nearly make it out. He looked forward as the prince hugged him, he could see that the dragon was currently roaring and smashing the cavern she was in a rage, also not going anywhere. He could stay here for a moment and get back to that later.
Alright then, we'll leave it there for now. Don't worry, you'll get the fight next chapter. Anyway, let me know what you think. I hope I did Varian right, I knew he was going to be harder than Thrall but I hope it was enough.
