This is Part III of the Memorial Day Special. Last time, Cheetah and Nekoto Wismer continued their battle from before. But then, the simple revelation that Nekoto is a child by nekomata standards seemed to change something in Cheetah, and for some reason that we'll have to get into later, she chose to defect from the Society, leaving Grodd and Brainiac alone. But for now, the battle for Metropolis rages on. So, what awaits next? Read on to discover...

(The scene resumes just as we left it, focusing back in on Blaze as the primary focus, now fighting alongside Belial Aether, Supergirl, and Harley Quinn while observing Black Diamond from a distance. Something which catches Harley Quinn's attention)

Harley Quinn: You sure you didn't call that guy in?

Blaze: Not intentionally, Harley. Though, his energy signature is... familiar, I just can't place where it's from.

Supergirl: (After blasting a Brainiac drone with her heat vision) I'm sure it'll come to you.

Belial Aether: (Summons a shadow khopesh) Just right now, we've got an alien invasion to stop.

Blaze: Right.

Harley Quinn: So what's the plan?

Blaze: We need to find a way past Brainiac's shield and into the Skull Ship.

Belial Aether: And once we do that?

Blaze: Still working it out from there!

Harley Quinn: Well that's real reassuring!

Blaze: I could really do without the sarcasm here, Harley!

Belial Aether: These things are endless!

(Just as Blaze is about to torch another Brainiac drone, a sword is thrown at it's head, a very familiar looking sword)

Blaze: (Recognizing the blade instantly) Just when I thought today couldn't get worse.

(And sure enough, now reclaiming the sword, is Wonder Woman, followed shortly by Cyborg, Robin, Black Adam, and finally Superman.)

Belial Aether: It just got way worse.

Robin: Well, well, well, if it isn't Aquaman's killer.

Blaze: That wasn't me!

Black Adam: You had the most to gain by his death. Vengeance for your beloved. A motive I can understand.

Cyborg: You'll forgive us if that deduction was easy to make.

Wonder Woman: Rest assured, there will be a reckoning for that. Either from Atlantis or from us.

Superman: But for now, Metropolis is in peril. So, this looks like a job for Superman.

Harley Quinn: (Shooting a Brainiac drone in the head) We're doing just fine without you, big blue!

Superman: (Looking around at the scene) You really expect me to believe that? You've needed our help from the start.

Blaze: We can get along just fine without you, Superman!

Supergirl: Being honest, Blaze? I'm not so sure.

Blaze: Trust me, Kara.

Superman: Since when were we giving you a choice?

(Without a word from Blaze, Superman and the Regime spring to action and start wrecking Brainiac drones left and right. As Superman arrives, we transition into the Skull Ship, where Brainiac is observing the scene, with Grodd at his side)

Brainiac: Your faith in Cheetah was ill founded. She has already betrayed us.

Gorilla Grodd: I noticed. I was the one she hung up on after all.

Brainiac: Your faction has proven far weaker than we first suspected. Can I count on you to stay loyal?

Gorilla Grodd: To hell with them. My alliegance is to Brainiac.

Brainiac: A most logical decision. We have waited long enough. It is time to collect this city.

(With that, Brainiac summons a control panel and activates something that sends tremors out across the city. Tremors that can be felt across the battlefield, and even as far away as the Nameless City, where Darkblood can feel the devastation about to occur.)

Darkblood: (Feeling the tremors) And so it begins...

(Back in Metropolis, everybody reacts to what Brainiac is doing, as a beam shoots down from the base of the Skull Ship)

Supergirl: He's collecting Metropolis!

Superman: Not if I have anything to say about it!

Supergirl: Kal, wait!

(But Superman is not deterred. He flies straight up to the Skull Ship, but not without catching the attention of Spyro and Cynder)

Spyro: The fool!

Cynder: We've got to stop him!

(With that, Spyro and Cynder fly up after Superman, blocking him)

Superman: You two again?! What are you, standing with Brainiac?

Spyro: You need to think this through, Superman! Talk to Kara, she's seen this first hand, she might know how to stop this!

Superman: There's no time! Now get out of my way or I'll crush you both.

Cynder: We beat you before, we can do it again!

(With that, Spyro, Cynder, and Superman begin clashing, exactly what Brainiac was looking for apparently)

Brainiac: The Kryptonian. Or at least, one of them. And the two dragons that managed to overpower him the first time. Studying them would be most advantageous. I must capture all of them.

(Brainiac turns up a dial on his control panel and focuses a trio of collection beams on Spyro, Cynder, and Superman, somehow appearing to vaporize them in midair as the city starts to float up into the beam)

Blaze: What do we do now?!

Supergirl: The only thing we can do is get out of here before we all get collected!

Flash: On it!

(With no hesitation, Flash, Jay Garrick, and Supergirl starts collecting everyone in the Legion, Insurgency, and Republic while Cyborg teleports the Regime members out of the danger zone just as Brainiac's collection of Metropolis completes, leaving a giant crater in the earth where the once great city used to be. And now everyone looks on at the devastation that has befallen them, as our scene ends for today)

This concludes Part III of the Memorial Day Special. For the Finale, head on over to Ashes of Midnight. Admittedly, not a good spot to leave off in for the heroes involved. Brainiac has managed to collect Metropolis, and seemingly taken out Spyro, Cynder, and Superman! All in all, definitely a dangerous cliffhanger to leave off on, especially now that the Regime is here. I have a feeling the next scene will end badly. How badly? You'll have to tune in next time to find out. Same time... same channel!
