"Are you sure you can do this?" Harrington was asking Skye as they walked into the 1950's room.
"I can though the process is going to be a little weird compared to my others," the investigator said.
"Where do you want me to be?" Mary asked her wife.
"There," Skye replied easily before she was gesturing to Harrington to sit in the driver's seat.
"Is…" the woman started to say before she stopped herself. Turning to the investigator she said, "Is this me saying I'm taking over?"
"It's what they want," Skye replied, nodding. "But they really want you to keep this going."
"I will, I planned on it," Harrington replied swiftly. She bit at her lower lip and then said, "And living in their house."
Glancing to her side, Skye then smiled and told the woman, "Eileen was happy to hear that. She said your place needed updating in the worst way."
Laughing tearfully, Harrington said, "She would always tell me that."
"And… she said to fill it with a family for you," Skye said, speaking slowly.
Feeling her cheeks heating up instantly Harrington whispered, "They know?"
"They're aware," Skye replied. "Though of course she was saying that with love."
Nodding a little absently, Harrington said, "She asked me out last night."
"Congratulations," Skye said.
"But… Eileen is a little early," Harrington replied. She hesitated for a moment and then asked, "She- Philippa isn't in trouble is she?"
"I doubt it, Brad's understanding," Mary answered first.
"What she said," Skye added. "Are you ready?" she asked the woman. At her nod she walked around the car and sat in the passenger seat before she was closing her eyes.
Squeezing Harrington's shoulder when she was about to speak, Mary shook her head, relieved when the woman nodded back to her and they waited for her wife to finish.
Shivering suddenly after they had been watching the investigator for a while, Harrington watched Skye relax while the cold dispersed and she couldn't help asking, "Are… are they gone?"
Blinking, Skye leaned back against the seat and said, "They are. They went easily which is a relief."
"You didn't think they were going to?" Harrington asked, watching the investigator's wife walk around the car.
"I wasn't sure," Skye replied. "I know how much Bernard loved this place."
"You knew them too," Harrington said, watching the investigator smile.
"I did, from the races at Reno," Skye replied before she studied the woman. "You knew that already."
"They told me they knew you, before you two were famous," Harrington replied.
Smiling again, Skye said, "That's sounds like them." She then grew serious and turned to the woman next to her and asked, "You're really okay?"
"I got shoved around a little bit," Harrington replied. "I'll probably be bruised but I'm really worried about Philippa, he slammed her on the desk."
"Do you want to go see how she's doing?" Mary asked.
At the woman's rapid nod Skye said, "We can go, but is your hand okay?" Seeing she was looking down at it she said, "Better keep that safe," not surprised when Harrington was quick to respond.
"I'm going to give this to the museum at the end of the island," the woman explained.
"Even the one with rubies?" Skye asked. At Harrington's confused expression she explained, "They said you love rubies."
"And garnets," the woman said with a nod. "But yeah… wait, is he the shooter too?" Harrington asked while they got out of the car.
"He thought he'd get the museum if you were dead, that had nothing to do with the jewelry," Mary said.
"She's right, but he did want the jewelry in the end. For the whole status thing," Skye said.
"Oh… either way I don't want to have to worry about these," Harrington said. "And they should be seen by the public. Maybe everyone will stop tearing up the island."
"Hopefully," Skye said before they were reaching the office.
"Is everything okay?" Castle was the first to ask.
"They've passed," Skye said simply. "And we have the brooch secure."
"Can I ask something sir?" Fox stated.
"Yes, but I need you to head back to the station," Brad replied. "With Ms. Harrington because I want her to fill out a statement now so she can enjoy her holidays."
"Me as well?" Fox asked.
"I'll get Bernier to take you," Brad said, looking out the window. "Scratch that, I'll get Gulland to take you." He then turned to his consultants and the McDouglas women and told them, "We need to get everything from here."
"And Ms. Harrington?" Skye asked immediately.
"He has my permission to do whatever he needs to," Harrington herself said as soon as everyone was turning to her. "Just… make sure we can open again soon."
"Tomorrow if you'd like," Brad said. "It shouldn't take that long to get everything squared here."
"Thank you," Harrington told him gratefully. She went to the doorway before the others were stepping out ahead of her and they were walking through the museum and outside to the parking lot in front. She let Fox lead her to Officer Gulland's unmarked car and sat in the back. She watched her girlfriend, wishing she would join her but aware it wasn't feasible. On the drive back she leaned her head against the side of the window, closing her eyes and letting relief overtake her that everything was finished.
"Do you need anything?" Beckett asked, having stepped up to the doorway of the breakroom.
"Oh, no," Harrington said with a slight smile. "I just hope I can go home soon."
"Not quite yet," Skye said, standing behind her friend. She then smiled at the woman inside and said, "Fox has just returned."
"Could… never mind," Harrington started to say before she stopped herself abruptly.
"She's in here," Castle said, leading the officer.
"Thank you," Fox said, nodding to the writer before she stepped into the room.
Leaving the women alone, Skye couldn't help saying once they were inside Brad's office, "I guess their secret wasn't very well kept."
"It doesn't matter," Beckett said.
"You heard from Brad?" Castle couldn't help asking his wife. He wasn't surprised when she was giving him a look and he said swiftly, "She knows already. Though he might talk with her to make sure she knows everything's alright."
"I'm surprised she wanted to leave the museum," Mary said, walking inside with a large bag.
"Did you get something for the two of them?" Darnley asked, finishing his paperwork at the chief's desk.
"I did," Mary replied with a slight smile. "Are we eating here?"
"We should," Castle said immediately.
"We are," Beckett said firmly. She looked around at everyone and said in mock annoyance, "Now I know they have something I'm going to help them."
"Who's going to take them their things?" Skye asked.
"I will," Beckett said, speaking a little sternly. "I don't trust those two," she said with a smile to belie any annoyance in her words since she had nodded to her husband and Darnley.
"Not fair," the carpenter said jokingly.
"Oh no, it is," Beckett said, picking up the two containers Mary handed to her. She left the office and made her way to the bullpen where she found one of the other officers had slightly closed the door.
"I'm going to have to go back to my place," Fox was saying.
"You don't have another shirt here?" Harrington asked, her girlfriend having shown up in scrubs.
"Unfortunately no, I took my spare one to the cleaners and forgot to bring it back to my locker," Fox said with a sigh. "I'll have to do that after lunch."
Before either women could speak they were turning to the door at the light knock on it as Beckett stepped inside. "We've got you some food from the German place," she told them.
"The buffet?" Fox asked in surprise.
Nodding, Beckett replied, "They have that new option for deliveries."
"I tried that once," Harrington said with a smile. "A little bit of everything unless you note your allergies."
"And you have none," Fox said.
"No, I'm sure that's on my medical information," Harrington replied, looking at Beckett before the woman was smiling a little at the same time she responded.
"Gulland asked you when she was giving you the medical supplies," she explained. "So hopefully you enjoy." After the two women had thanked her, Beckett made her way back to the office and said, "They're set."
"Not that romantic," Skye said jokingly.
"I think for them it might be," Castle commented.
"Are you going to spend the entire lunch talking about them?" Mary asked in amusement.
"Not really," Castle said. He smiled when his wife rolled her eyes while she was sitting at the table and he opened his container before Darnley was clearing his throat and Skye spoke in mock annoyance to the carpenter.
"We said we weren't going to speak about them the whole time," the investigator said.
"No, but I'm wondering what they'll be discussing now," Darnley admitted.
"I don't think they'll really want you to do that," Mary commented.
"True," Darnley said. "But at least we're finished for the holidays."
"Luckily Brad will be," Castle said. At the looks from the others he explained, "When he first became chief he had to work Christmas … two years before the budget got better and more officers could be hired," not surprised his wife was nodding in agreement next to him.
"He wanted to earn everyone's trust too," Beckett said with a smile. They were focusing on their food again though she couldn't help wondering what the two women were discussing after everything that had occurred that morning.
"This looks like a lot of food," Harrington said once Beckett had left and they'd opened their containers.
"Well… it is a buffet," Fox commented, startled when her girlfriend let out a sudden burst of laughter. Looking at her she saw Harrington was staring at her with wide eyes, her hand over her mouth before she started to laugh herself. They did that for a little before they were stopping at nearly the same time and she said, "I guess we needed that."
"I think so," Harrington agreed, nodding her head. She then smiled and said, "Are you hungry?"
"I actually am, I had a huge adrenaline rush," Fox replied before her girlfriend was reaching out to her and gently touching her face. "I'm alright, the worst thing was the bridge of my nose, it'll be bruised. Luckily I can cover it with makeup or I'll freak my family out this Christmas."
"You don't have a concussion do you?" Harrington asked, since that was the reason the chief had asked the officer to go to the hospital.
"A headache, that was it I told the chief," Fox said. She then hesitated and said, "He does keep an eye on us."
Nodding Harrington said, "I'm glad he does," reaching for her hand. "We can do this now right?"
"He's not here," Fox said. She then sighed after squeezing at her girlfriend's hand and said, "I'll have to talk to him once he's back. See if he'll let me grab my other shirt." Seeing the concerned look on Harrington's face she squeezed her hand and told her, "Don't worry, I won't get in trouble. He's understanding too." Once her girlfriend had nodded she told her, "Eat though, the food'll get cold."
Though she'd wanted to ask the officer something, Harrington merely squeezed her hand back and they were starting to eat. Once she wasn't feeling that hungry anymore she put her fork down and asked, "Do you have to keep working today?"
Studying her for a moment, Fox said, "I do, I'm on shift actually. Someone punched me in luckily." Hesitating, she then said, "Though I kind of wonder if Chief is going to want me to go home for the rest of the day."
"I hope he does," Harrington couldn't help saying, feeling herself blushing when her girlfriend turned to her.
"I'm alright," Fox assured her. "Though he might want me to rest anyway." She picked a little at the food that was left on her plate and said with a slight frown, "Do you want me to protect you?"
"No," Harrington said swiftly. "I feel like you deserve the chance to rest."
"Thank you, but I don't really need it," Fox said. "But I will ask Chief if he'll let me escort you back to your house. Houses."
Smiling at the plural for a moment, Harrington then said, "That would be nice, though I think I'm going to start preparing to move."
"I'm not surprised," Fox said. "Though what can you do?"
"Pack my clothes and essentials," Harrington replied. "That's probably the only thing I can do to stay at my other house tonight." She made a face and said, "I'm thinking of giving my new house a name."
"Very British," Fox said.
"Well, I am fully," Harrington replied. "My mom's last name was Campbell."
"I'm half from my Dad's side. Of course from Mom I got my Dutch blood," Fox said, smiling when Harrington did. A frown then appeared on her face and she said, "I hate the whole tier thing here."
"If you think about it we're flaunting that, being together," Harrington commented, taking her hand again. "Apparently us both being women is doing that too," she added.
"Probably, but I could care less," Fox said, squeezing at her girlfriend's hand. "We… are you done?" she asked, having found herself beginning to lean into her.
"I am," Harrington replied, looking at what she still had in her container.
"You can take that home… the home of your choice," Fox replied. Watching her girlfriend, she became a little concerned at the expression on her face and asked, "Okay?"
"Yeah," Harrington said. "I wanted to ask you-"
"Fox?" Hutchinson asked, pushing the door open of the room after knocking.
"Yeah," she asked, letting Harrington's hand go immediately.
"Chief's back and he wants to talk to Ms. Harrington and you," Hutchinson replied. "If you're okay?"
"Oh I'm fine," Fox said swiftly.
"Great, if you'll come with me first," Hutchinson directed to Harrington.
"Go, I'll clean up," Fox assured her girlfriend. After Harrington had squeezed her arm gently, she watched the two leaving before she breathed out, trying not to think of what her conversation with her boss would involve as she began clearing the table.
