Chapter 7
Guest- I suppose that's one way in looking at how the Sisters are reacting to everything. I just figured they were so used to everything from their old home that they get amazed and astonished with everything that's so different in the Fairy Tail verse, like the magic and such. And besides, it's not like this will be a permeant thing.
As for the father thing, you'll see.
Dining table
Arahan couldn't help but growl softly as her sister prepared their food, both for themselves and their son, for the morning as well as some food for the trip they'll be embarking on soon.
How she wasn't looking forward to what she had to do soon. Not that she wasn't going to do it, of course, it's just that it hurt her pride to do so. She was a warrior. A hunter. A person that just kills what she desires to kill and destroy, doing so without remorse or pity to those she slays. And she loved it. Loved the simplicity in it. How she didn't to care about what others think or how they may react to her kills.
And now she was supposed to say sorry for killing something as well as forcing someone else to do it as well. Isha, this stung her pride much, but she knew she had to do it because, as much as it pained her to admit, her sister was right on this occasion. Their son wasn't like them. Even if he was an Asrai, he still was a child. He didn't deserve to become a warrior. Not yet at least.
The more she thought about it, the more she realized that her sister in the right. She underestimated the naivety and innocence that a child has. How easily they are scared and how horrified they are to seeing things that are so violent. And how easily that'll affect them growing up. And how it can drastically affect their growth. For the worst. So, as much as she hated to admit it, she was at wrong here and she needed to make up for it.
Still swallowing her pride was something that she absolutely hated. It was an abhorrent feeling and one that she would like to avoid as much as possible. Naestra told her then that, in order to stop acquiring such a feeling, then she should think beforehand rather than charging straight first into anything. As if she would ever do that.
Taking a deep breath, Arahan was about to speak to her sister when Diederick arrived, hair a bit messy. Upon seeing him, Naestra smiled out as she greeted him while laying his food on their table.
"Diederick, there is something that Arahan wants to speak to you about. It's about what happened last night." Said Naestra as her son sat down on the table. Upon hearing that, Diederick looked at Arahan as she looked anywhere but her son. Eventually, she looked at Diederick and swallowed hard before speaking.
"I'm sorry for what I forced you to do last night." Said Arahan as she went over to Diederick and sat down next to him. "You're just a child and it wasn't right to have you kill your first intelligent being that early on in your life. Nor was it right for me to force you to do so." She then noticed Naestra motioning for her to say more, specifically what they both agreed on, causing her to growl softly before turning towards her son, who looked shocked to see her apologize for anything. Sighing out, Arahan spoke out again. "And so, to make up for that, I've decided to let Naestra take you to the nearby city of Men so you can interact with your own kind and make friends with them." Upon hearing that, Diederick's eyes brightened up immediately as he looked at both of his mothers. After seeing Naestra nod in confirmation with a smile, he got off his seat to give Arahan a hug, one that the elven maiden took with surprise before eventually bringing her son closer.
"Thank you, mother." Said Diederick as he buried his head on Arahan's body, making the white-haired elf sighed before nodding. The boy was clearly excited that she was fine with him going to met more of his kind.
From the moment he grew intelligent, Diederick knew that he wasn't an elf. The ears gave it away, but regardless Diederick loved both Arahan and Naestra as his mothers anyway, treating them both with the same amount of love and respect, even though it was hard to do so with Arahan sometimes.
Naestra, when Diederick confronted her about what he actually was, explained to the boy what his people were. What they and what they can do. She told him many things, both good and bad, about the people of men, knowing that he needed to know all in order to properly understand what his people were capable of. Needless to say, Diederick was intrigued and wanted to see the nations that Naestra told him about, mainly the Empire of Man.
To his disappointment, however, Naestra explained to him that such a thing was impossible for them. She told him that they were taken to a far away land that prevented them from ever venturing to the lands of the Empire. Not without some kind of special assistance that none of them had at the moment. Though disappointed to hear that, Diederick, nonetheless, indulged himself in stories about the Empire and Bretonnia from Naestra, who was more than happy to share with him stories about the two kingdoms of men. All of which intrigued and excited the boy. It made the boy wish to venture out and see if the civilizations of men beyond their forest were just as amazing as those of the kingdom of Bretonnia and the Empire of Man.
Naestra, having seen only a single city of men, that being the one beyond their forest, had to admit she also was curious to see if the men of these lands had created a civilization that was as grand as those of Bretonnia and the Empire.
It was only because of Arahan's disapproval that prevented Diederick from venturing with Naestra to the lands beyond the forest, but now without it, Diederick can freely go outside the forest for the first time in his life and it excited him. And truth be told, Naestra was excited about it as well. Learning a new culture. It was quite exciting for the black-haired elf. Arahan, on the other hand, not so much. Still, she conceded to let her sister and their son be happy over this as they relish the opportunities to meet more people, even if it drove her mad.
"We'll go outside the forest to set you up with a school of learning as soon as possible." Said Arahan as she let go of Diederick. "A respectable place of learning. You deserve the best what the people of men offer, Diederick, and nothing is going to stop us from having such things be offered to you." Diederick smiled at that. Though he wasn't sure if he should be worried about nothing stopping his mothers from getting him the best of what the people of men offered as it was Arahan said it, but still hugged Arahan back for saying that, much to the woman's annoyance. Smiling at this, Naestra nonetheless told Diederick to finish eating, so that they can leave for the city as soon as possible. That caused Diederick to stop hugging Arahan so he can go back to eating, this time with more life in his movements.
Looking at her sister, Arahan saw a small smile on her lips before she went to dine in on her own food, which Arahan followed soon after.
Few hours later
Naestra
"Careful, Diederick." Said Naestra as watched her son go ahead of them. "There's no need to rush. The city will still be there even if we take a brisk pace." Despite that warning, Diederick continued to move on ahead of both her and Arahan, causing Naestra to sigh. "I suppose his excitement at seeing more of his kind, ones that aren't sinful creatures, is all encompassing." Arahan just rolled her eyes at that.
"I just hope this excitement won't stay for too long." Said Arahan. "I don't know if I can handle such excitement for the rest of my life." Naestra just sighed at that.
"Moving on." Said Naestra. "I wonder what friends he'll make in what school we'll be putting him in."
"Or if he'll even make some at all." Pointed at Arahan as she crossed her arms. "There's always a chance he won't be able to make friends with people, sister. And what do we do when that happens?"
"Then we try to help him make friends, Arahan." Said Naestra. "Shouldn't we, as mothers, try to help our son in ways other than combat." Arahan just sighed before nodding in agreement. She didn't know much of parenting, but she did know that much. "Good, now please try to refrain from instigating fights with anyone, sister. Any fights we make will likely affect our chances on our son to get friends as well as what society perceives him and us." Arahan rolled her eyes, but promised to do so. Satisfied, the two elves then pursued their son as they ventured away from the forest to enter the city that Naestra often went to for supplies.
Half an hour later
Human city
"Here it is." Said Naestra as the trio entered the city that was closet to their home. The city of Magnolia, according to Naestra. "Now stay close, Diederick. It's quite easy for one to get lost in a place such as this and there are plenty of hidden dangers within this city. I've learned that the hard way." Diederick nodded at that before staying close to both Arahan and Naestra as they walked through the outer edges of Magnolia, ignoring the various people of men that walked the streets. A few gave the trio a quick glance because of their traveling attire as well as because of Naestra and Arahan having hoods over their heads to prevent people from seeing their ears for, much to their slight surprise, elves didn't exist in their world. That was a bad thing for them as that would make them one-of-a-kind specimens for slavers and other distasteful individuals that wanted them for other purposes. So, their hoods stay on. Refraining from glaring at someone that pushed her abruptly, Arahan spoke to Naestra in their own language.
"Tell me you know where to look, Naestra." Said Arahan. "A place of learning that our son can start in so that we don't have to spend the whole day in this cramped city."
"I do." Said Naestra as she held the hand of Diederick as they walked. "During one of my travels here, I spoke to someone about fine establishments of learning for children around Diederick's age. Fortunately, they've recommended several institutions for Diederick. All of which are respectable places of learning, according to them. We can go to each one and figure out which is the best for our son. I know the locations of every single one. We'll start with the closets." Upon hearing that, Arahan narrowed her eyes.
"You've been preparing for this day, haven't you?" Asked Arahan. "Long before I've decided to let you win." Naestra just let out a small smirk as she looked at her sister with a small amount of amusement in her eyes.
"There's nothing wrong with a little preparation for the results of a victory, sister." Said Naestra. "Perhaps I can teach you to do the same when we have the time and your willing to listen." Arahan scowled at her sister as she led Diederick to their first destination, unbelieving her sister, but also impressed with her preparation of victory. Slightly arrogant, but she would have done the same thing had she been in her place in this bet.
Twenty minutes later
"Here it is." Said Naestra as they arrived at their first destination. A building around two stories in height and held a large tower at the front of the establishment. "That man told me that this would be a fine establishment for our son, Arahan. Is it satisfactory to you?" Arahan didn't say anything as she looked at the building, examining it for herself, gauging if it was indeed worthy of their standards. It took a few minutes before she spoke.
"It's adequate." Said Arahan. She wanted to say that it was only adequate if they compared it to the workings of men themselves and not any elven ones, but refrained on account of Diederick with them.
"I thought you would like it." Said Naestra before looking at Diederick. "Do you like it though?" Upon hearing that question, Diederick nodded in confirmation. "Well, don't pick it in haste, Diederick. There are still other establishments out there that you can choose from. Perhaps you'll find a better one for you amongst them?" After getting a nod from their son, the two elves entered the premise, hoping to find someone that can help them decide on the advantages of this establishment over the other ones that they planned on going to. Just before they entered the building, they were immediately blocked by someone instantly appearing in front of them.
"I see you're eager to enter my school of learning." Said a man with a curly mustache as he appeared right in front of Naestra as she was about to open the door that led to the building. Stunned, Naestra retracted her hand as Arahan placed a hand on a hidden knife on her person in case this person tried anything funny with them.
After getting rid of the initial shock of Looking at the man, Naestra saw that the man wore a dark red suit with a some sort of fabric around his neck in the shape of a bow. His red hair was in some sort of bowl style and his violet eyes showed such friendliness that it unnerved even Naestra. Still, Naestra addressed the man with respect.
"Greeting to you, Mr…" Upon hearing that, the man spoke up.
"Aragor. Vernus Aragor." Said the man with a smile before looking at the boy with the two beautiful woman. "I see you have a fine boy with you. Let me guess, you wish to enroll him in my fine school of learning. Yes?" Naestra just nodded at that as she held Diederick close to him.
"Yes, we do." Said Naestra. "If it isn't too much to ask, can we learn about your school before deciding on enrolling him here?" Aragor just smiled before speaking.
"Why of course." Said Aragor. "It's always a good idea to learn what a school's reputation and skill requirements are before sending your children to them. Even more so for the former. It's a mark of a bad parent if one sends their child to the first school they've heard about without knowing their reputation. Yes?" Naestra just nodded in agreement.
"So, may you give us a tour of this fine establishment?" Asked Naestra with a smile. Aragor just nodded.
"Why of course." Said Aragor before opening the doors and allowing them all to enter. "I'll answer whatever your questions are regarding this place of learning so that you can be fully informed of what school you're sending your son into. If you choose to enroll him here, of course." Arahan just scowled as she looked at the man as he walked besides him. His attitude was really annoying her and it was making her want to put an arrow through his head, but the way Naestra was relaxed around him told her that he wasn't a threat to them or their son. So, reluctantly, she refrained from attacking, though she still kept a close way on him. This world had many strange magics in it. Magics that she'd never seen before or thought possible to be used the way these men do. Whose to say this man wasn't using magic to influence them somehow. To catch them off guard when they were at their weakest and then strike. It was paranoid thinking, yes, but Arahan was just looking out for the wellbeing of her sister and son. If he proved to not to be a threat, then she'll let her guard down, if only a little. Better safe than sorry in her mind, even if it led to her being labeled as mistrustful and paranoid.
Walking down with her sister, her son, and the eccentric man with them, Arahan wondered how many schools Naestra planned on going to before deciding on the one that she and Diederick wanted for their son.
