What no one saw coming
May 20th
Apulia, Italy.
"Happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you,
happy birthday dear Danny and Gabriel,
happy birthday to you!"
It was a perfect day to celebrate a birthday in an outdoor restaurant. The restaurant was "Villarossa tower" ran by Franco and Maria Villarossa. Gabriel had known Franco and Maria since he was a child.
The weather was warm and there was no cloud in the sky.
The photographer was taking pictures of Danny and Gabriel staring at the cake.
He also took pictures of them blowing all the fourteen candles.
"Happy birthday boys!" Annabella said showing two big presents.
They were two cell phones.
"Thanks mom!" Danny said.
"I love it!" Gabriel answered happily.
They also received a lot of other presents from their friends and relatives. Their dad Enzo was the only one who still didn't give a present.
"I'm sorry boys, your present is still not ready yet!"
"Don't worry dad!" Danny answered.
"Yeah, we can wait!" Gabriel also answered.
"Come on boys, eat your cake!" Annabella ordered.
The cake was extremely delicious. It was called Saint Honorè, a sponge cake with a lot of white cream. Gabriel ate two pieces of it then he had to stop (he was about to barf). Even Danny and the others seemed to appriciate it.
"Come on guys, let's go to the ballroom!" the deejay announced.
Some sport.
After a hearty lunch it was what everyone needed.
Everyone entered in the ballroom. Gabriel turned back to take his cell phone he forgot on the table. His father Enzo was still outside.
He was stooped and he was making some noises;
"Cough cough..."
"Dad… are you ok?"
"Oh it's nothing, I'm fine thank you!"
"Let's go in!"
"Yeah sure!" Enzo said smiling.
The deejay started playing disco music and everyone enjoyed the dance. They danced for hours until the sun went down. When the sky turned black the party was over. Everyone left the restaurant, Gabriel and Danny recieved a lot of "thanks form the party" from their friends and a lot "that was a great event" from their own relatives.
Gabriel's family was the last to leave the restaurant.
"Have a nice night!" Franco said.
"See you next year!" Maria also said.
Gabriel and his family greeted.
"Bye!"
"Wow, that was a great party!" Danny said once his family reached the parking lot.
"Did you enjoy Gabriel?"
"Yes mom!" he answered carrying a bag with all the gifts.
"I just can't wait for the next year!" Danny said when they reached their car.
"You are fourteen now, how quickly time goes by!" Annabella pointed.
"It seemed like yesterday when you started walking and now you are close to the adult age!"
"Well, yeah! But I want to go home now, I'm very tired!"
"Right Gabriel, we are all tired! Hurry Enzo…!"
"Yes dear!" Enzo answered taking the car key.
He was about to put the key in the lock when he suddenly started coughing.
"Cough... cough…!"
"Are you ok?" Annabella asked.
"I'm fine! I think I catched a cold, I felt a bit sick since this morning…."
Enzo started coughing louder.
"Cough cough..."
"Enzo!?"
"Dad!?"
But Enzo didn't answer, he couldn't stop coughing, he fell on the ground and spitted some blood.
"Dad… Dad..."
"Enzo, please, say something!
Still no answer. His body was violently shaking on the ground.
His wife and his kids were terrorized now.
"Dad… dad… please…!"
A weird sound came from his mouth;
"Hmmngh…. Nngghhh…. Ghhhnnn..."
He was like he was about to say something but some mysterious power was preventing him from doing that.
"Oh my...I think it's serious!" Gabriel said.
"Hurry, let's call an ambulance!" Danny said.
Annabella grabbed her cell phone and dialed a number.
