Jonathan drives Cassie and Nancy back to the police station. Nancy was able to sneak past the cops and grab the confiscated weapons. Because Cassie's bow and arrow were hidden in the back seat of her car, she follows them back to the Byers house once Nancy was able to leave the police station with the equipment they have acquired.

The three teenagers were screwing the Christmas lights back onto the strand. They decorate the house to act as a trap, with Nancy loading the bullets in the gun, Jonathan hammering nails into a bat, and Cassie putting the arrows within the quiver. Jonathan was setting up the bear trap while Nancy and Cassie were dousing the house with gasoline, with Cassie making sure that she had her lighter on hand.

Jonathan and Nancy carefully maneuver themselves away from the bear trap as Jonathan searches the kitchen for some knives, a means to lure the Demogorgon.

"Remember…" Jonathan begins to remind the girls.

"Straight into Will's room. And…" Nancy is about to say. "Don't step on the trap." Jonathan finishes.

"Wait for the yo-yo to move then set that sucker on fire." Cassie finishes, brandishing her lighter.

"You two ready?" Jonathan asks them. Cassie just nods in confirmation. "Ready." Nancy tells him.

Cassie mentally counts down from three and slices her palm. She grits her teeth as the pain surges through her hand, blood pooling out of the wound.

Now entails the waiting game. Cassie is bandaging the wounds on Jonathan and Nancy's hand. Nancy became confused. "How do you know all of this?"

"Something that I learned in California." Cassie briskly responds.

"Hey, you know you can trust us, right?" Nancy assures her, Jonathan just nods in confirmation.

Cassie presses her lips together, harshly. "I know. I-It's just…in California, I was someone different. Someone in my past used my trust as a means to manipulate and control me. It's a major reason why I came back and am living with my uncle.." Cassie vaguely explains.

"You don't have to tell us if you don't want to." Jonathan tells her. Cassie gives him a wry smile, as a means to tell him thank you.

She was ashamed of that naive girl that she once was, and she made a vow to herself that she wouldn't let anyone in like that ever again.

Yet again, her trust issues are going to be what's going to kill her.

Cassie decides to leave Nancy and Jonathan alone, so she was bandaging her own wound. It was all silent and then knocking scared Cassie out of her trance.

"Jonathan? Are you there, man? It's…it's Steve!" the familiar voice of Steve Harrington calls out.

Cassie's eyes bulge out of her head as she looks over at Nancy. "Why is he here?" she asks. Nancy looks just as confused as Cassie is. "I don't know."

"Listen, I just want to talk!" Steve continues. Though Cassie can sense the sincerity in his voice, the timing is very off.

Nancy gets up to answer the door, in hopes that she can persuade him to leave. However, it was proved to be fruitless as Steve manages to get himself into the house.

While Steve is in a minefield of confusion, Jonathan walks up to Steve, in hopes that he would leave.

"Get out, Harrington!" Cassie orders, drawing her bow and arrow.

Steve looked confused and a little bit scared when he saw that he was at the other end of Cassie's arrow.

"W-wait, what?" Steve asks, pure confusion rolling off of him. "What is going on, Cass?" he asks her.

"You have five seconds to get out." Cassie tells him.

"Okay, is this a joke? Stop. Put the bow and arrow down." Steve tries to talk Cassie down.

"Don't make me do this, Steve." Cassie tells him with all of the caution radiating off of her body.

Steve knows Cassie. She hasn't called him Steve in the time that she moved back to Hawkins, so he knows that she is serious.

Jonathan and Nancy notice the lights blinking. "Cassie." Jonathan tries to get her attention.

As Cassie begins counting down, it was Nancy yelling her name that got her attention. "The lights." Jonathan tells her.

It was right then and there that Cassie saw the blinking Christmas lights.

"Fuck, it's here." Cassie breathes out as Jonathan arms himself with the nail bat. Steve, somehow still here, is more confused than ever.

What on Earth does Cassie mean by "it's here"?

Cassie lowers her bow and arrow, but still has it drawn. "Where is it?" Nancy asks, holding the gun.

"Where is what?" Steve asks. "Whoa! Easy with that!" he tells Nancy, who is now holding the gun.

"Jonathan, where the hell is it?" a frantic Cassie asks.

"I don't know. I can't see it." Jonathan tells her as the three circle around each other, backs against each other.

"Where is what? Hello? Will someone please explain to me what the hell is going–" Steve begins to ramble in confusion.

Cassie spots something bulging through the walls. "Nancy, on your right!" she warns Nancy.

Cassie lifts up her drawn bow and arrow, but couldn't get a clear shot. Nancy tried to shoot at it, but it proved meaningless.

Jonathan grabs Nancy away while Cassie grabs Steve, and the four run down the hallway. "Steve, jump! There's a bear trap there!" Cassie instructs Steve as she jumps over the bear trap.

Once getting to Will's room, Steve is freaking out about what he just saw, and rightfully so, but that prompted both Nancy and Jonathan to tell Steve to shut up.

They hear the growls of the Demogorgon and Jonathan lights up the lighter that Cassie gave to him.

"What's it doing?" Cassie asks, huffing out for air as her arrow is drawn as she stands in front of Steve.

"I don't know." Jonathan replies to her. All three of them are laser focused on the yo-yo, waiting for it to move. Everyone who is in the bedroom hears the spark of electricity as the monster becomes silent.

Cassie's concentration is not wavering in the slightest. Jonathan flicks the lighter off as soon as it is known that they are hearing nothing.

"Be careful. That fucker's probably luring us into a trap." Cassie quietly warns Jonathan as he leads Nancy, Steve, and Cassie out of the bedroom.

Traversing slowly through the dark hallway and into the living room, the teenagers are still being very cautious. Cassie notices that Steve is muttering to himself.

The girl couldn't blame her former best friend. If she was in his position, she would be reacting the same way too. It sounds insane.

As Steve is about to use the not-working phone, Nancy takes the phone away from him. "What are you doing? Are you insane?" Steve asks.

"It's going to come back. You need to leave right now." Nancy sternly tells Steve. Steve looks over at Cassie, his eyes pleading with her. Cassie just pressed her lips together while her eyes were becoming a little misty.

"I'm sorry. You saw what it could do. I'd rather have you alive than dead." Cassie tells him.

Steve takes a moment before rushing out of the Byers house.

The lights in the house began to pulsate once again. The three stayed close in hopes of trying to find the monster, then it all went pitch black.

A searing pain erupts from Cassie's back, emitting a scream out of her. Jonathan tries to utilize the nail bat against the monster, but that was knocked out of his hands and he is pinned to the ground.

While in her moment of weakness, blood pooling out of her back, Cassie gets an arrow and tries to shoot the monster, but a) it was deflected due to the durable skin the Demogorgon has, and b) Cassie was too dizzy to get a clear shot.

While Cassie is weakly shooting the arrows, Nancy is trying to shoot down the Demogorgon with her gun.

Steve, who was just about to enter his car to leave, stops once he hears the scream of Cassie Grant. He rushes back in to see Nancy trying to shoot the monster, but having no more bullets left in the chamber of the gun. He picks up the nail bat and hits the monster with it, several times.

The sound of the bear trap is heard and the four teens get out of the way. "Jonathan, now!" Nancy tells him as Jonathan throws Cassie's lighter within the gasoline trail, lighting the monster on fire.

Jonathan uses the fire extinguisher right away to diffuse the fire. The gas that came from the extinguisher made Cassie even more lightheaded as she tried to prevent passing out.

The lights were slowly flickering, and that indicates why the Christmas lights were in effect.

They were used to communicate through that other dimension, the Upside Down as what Mike, Dustin, and Lucas had explained.

Nancy warily glances over at Cassie. "Cassie, you need to lie down." Nancy tells her.

"No, no. It's okay. I'm fine." Cassie grunts out. Steve is not buying it, however. He just lifts up the shirt to see the three deep claw marks that have been embedded into Cassie's back. Steve, ignoring her protests, guides her to the couch.

"Get whatever alcohol is there and just dump it all over this." Cassie grits through her teeth. The alcohol was found within a closet from the first aid kit. The alcohol has been applied, Cassie yelling out in pain.

Steve can sense that Cassie is about to pass out at any given moment. "Jesus, she needs to go to the hospital." Steve tells Jonathan and Nancy.

"How are we going to explain that?" Jonathan asks Steve, gesturing to Cassie's back.

"Animal attack." Cassie said as she fluttered her eyes between open and close.

"It would be a plausible reason." Nancy agrees with Cassie.

Steve lifts Cassie up, who gives out a whimper as soon as his arm comes into contact with the wounds. "I got you." Steve assures Cassie, who leans her head on his shoulder as they all pile into Jonathan's car, with Nancy in the passenger seat and Steve being in the back seat with Cassie.

Jonathan, who is speeding and is surprised that he didn't break any traffic laws, managed to get to the hospital.

"Be there for your mom. I'll take care of it." Steve tells him, and as instructed Jonathan takes off to Hawkins Lab with Nancy.

Cassie was able to get admitted into the hospital, but had to go into urgent care for surgery. Though an alive, albeit weak, Will has already woken up, Cassie is still recovering. Steve hasn't left her side once the doctors allowed visitation for Cassie.

The hospital already contacted Bob, who also contacted Felicity. Bob is at the house, preparing a change of clothes for Cassie once she gets discharged from the hospital, and Felicity is already taking the first flight into Indiana.

"Cass, you need to fight this. You're strong, stronger than me. I'm so sorry that I didn't fight hard enough for you. When you wake up, I promise that I will never let you down." Steve was pleading with Cassie, who is put into a medically induced coma.

There was something that caught his eye, the fingernail shaped indents on her arm, garnering both confusion and concern.

There are two things in Cassie Grant's family that Steve Harrington knows is a fact: 1) Bob Newby NEVER has an aggressive bone in his body, and 2) Felicity Newby is more of a mother to him than his actual mother has ever been.

What the hell happened with Cassie when she moved to California?
