Lorelai and Luke finally arrived in Martha's Vineyard. The house they were staying in was a classic Cape Cod house. They got settled into their rental and decided to go for a walk on the beach before everyone else showed up. As they walked, they talked about what needed to be done to prepare for their wedding.
"We need a marriage license, right?" asked Lorelai. "And someone to marry us. With it being Saturday we'll have to do all that Monday morning."
"Right," said Luke.
The rest of their family and friends arrived later that afternoon. Emily and Richard showed up and kindly offered to help with whatever needed to get done. Lorelai was pleasantly surprised that they were offering and she and Luke agreed that they could find a restaurant that they could eat at after they were married.
Lorelai pulled Emily aside. "Mom, thank you for being supportive. I do have a request and I'd like to surprise Luke with this." She hated making this request but she desperately wanted that house with the pond. She took a deep breath. "Would you and Dad be willing to go ahead and put in an offer on that house.
Emily smiled. Even though she and Lorelai weren't on the best terms she wanted her daughter. "We're very happy to help. And we put in an offer on the way here." She held up her hand before Lorelai could protest. "I know you didn't ask us to but it was supposed to be our gift to you and Luke and we wanted to keep it that way."
Lorelai nodded. "Thank you."
"Of course." Emily paused. "I know I haven't been supportive of this relationship but clearly Luke makes you happy."
"He really does," answered Lorelai.
The rest of the weekend was spent preparing for the wedding. As soon as they were able to, Luke and Lorelai got a marriage license and someone to marry them. They decided they didn't want to wait and got married later that evening on the beach.
Lorelai wore her wedding dress and Luke wore a nice suit. They were surrounded by everyone they loved and afterwards they all went to dinner at a restaurant that Emily and Richard loved.
Later that night, Lorelai surprised Luke and told him her parents already made an offer on the house as part of their wedding gift. Luke wasn't thrilled but he understood. He could tell it was what Lorelai wanted and he was glad and wasn't keeping secrets from him.
