My knowledge of the Warhammer timeline was... sparse to say the least. I knew about the key points. Great Crusaders. Heresy. Black crusades. Indomitus crusade. Then some other wars between those big points.
All in all, I knew jackshit. I moved my gaze up to the entrance to my chamber, only recently having received its repairs. The Scarab like things scuttered around the walls filling in the cracks. My crypteks had told me they would finish the last bit of work while they went to repair everything else on this world.
The world was empty. I mean that literally. It was a dead world with no life. Too close to a sun for it to be viable, then the sun was replaced with a warp rift, which made it even more uninhabitable.
The only reason this world had been taken by chaos was simply due to the size of the tomb and all the blackstone warding it off. Either that or the Horus Heresy hasn't happened yet. I didn't know which was scarier, chaos or being a xenos with the emperor of man flying round the galaxy.
My system gave me no type of time frame, no great events. It simply helped me manage this world. This empty world, the size of Jupiter.
The chamber's dull hum was muffled by the thud of approaching footsteps, or pincer like limbs digging into the floor. I couldn't quite tell the difference yet.
"Speak Aropheph, we have much work to complete" my deep voice echoed through some unknown soeaker device under my skull helm, the lights shifting from light to dark as I spoke.
"I greet Lord Korophacht, the leader of our dynasty and present my finding to you." He began, his shambling body stopping and sinking to both knees, his staff slammed into the floor as he dropped and his tattered cloak slowly flowed to the floor, his empty green tinted face plate looked up to me. "The system has some life, sentients naming themselves humans, and while our forces have yet to breach the systems boundaries we are approaching it." He follows with.
I leaned back into my throne and raised a freshly polished hand to my face, leaning on it and looking down, considering my words. "Are they fortified? Their numbers? How far have the developed technologically? It's all good knowing they exist Aropheph, but I expect someone under my dynasty to know more than just 'they exist there'." I replied back, my slow and deep words echoed round the room. The guards outside looked in now, gripping their own hyperphase glaives. I paused and waited for the lesser lord to continue.
"Yes my lord. My... apologies" he replied, as if he was carefully considering his words. "My forces have infiltrated the surface and relayed certain information to me. They have received warnings from a larger entity with an unknown name demanding it to fall into compliance. These forces call themselves the 'Imperium of Man'." He finally spoke back to me, looking up still with those soulless eyes.
'Fuck, this means I'm likely to be around the Great Crusade.' I thought to myself. I dismissed Aropheph with a wave and he rose to slowly trudge out. He had almost finished his own repairs from the crypteks and scarabs and now had a chance to do it.
'If this is the Great Crusade then I need to lay out my options. The majority of words were claimed by normal men and women. My forces can handle that. Astartes too wouldn't be an issue. But a primarch gives me reason for concern. I would be ripped into scrap, the mechanicus would claim this world and I would simply cease.' I thought. 'The Emperor himself is simply the worst possible case that I dread to think about.' If I still had nerves and a flesh body I would've shuddered at the thought of facing him.
'The primarchs can be reasoned with, depending on the individual. Mortarion would not listen, along with Ferrus, Angron, Curze, Dorne, and Perturabo. They are too headstrong and would simply go to war against me. Guilliman too can likely be added to that list I suppose. The Khan, Sanguinius, Vulcan, Lorgar, Magnus, and possibly Horus would be the most likely to listen to me if it came to a discussion. Fulgrim may already be corrupted with the blades he found and may be too far gone. Alpharius and Omegon are complete unknowns. I simply know nothing about them.' My thoughts dragged on through the hours, making up possible plans for primarchs I may run into if this world is visited soon.
I left the chamber and entered the room, scarabs following me to fill in any damaged areas and complete more repairs.
I couldn't allow that world to be taken by the Imperium, I don't know how many Necron tombs are awake but I would guess in the single digits. I wouldn't be put in a position where I would struggle in the surrounding areas to my tomb.
I walked through chamber and hall, repeating in all manner of fashion. Different sizes, different shapes. All with a special purpose. The freshly awakened troops passed by me in some cases, and I looked down on them through the arches above the great hall they received their repairs in. 65 million years wreaks havoc on the body after all.
I slowly reached my goal however, a large room built to scan and monitor the system. The room was operational now I had sent forces out to deploy beacons across the system during their inspection run. The holograms displayed what I needed to see.
My tombworld, closest to the rift. The next world along in the system held the human life. And begin that were clusters of moons and great asteroid clusters. Resource rich, and free for the taking. That was likely why the Imperium was here, to claim the resources of the asteroid fields nearby.
I heard a sliding sound behind me and turned to glance. The second of the four lords of my dynasty entered, mechanical arms splayed around him and his pincer like legs sent him towards me as he bowed quickly before rising. Nominor was the chief cryptek. A valuable being to serve under and powerful one too. His body already changing each time I see him, scavenging spare parts to improve himself had become common in the time I had been awake.
"Come Nominor, tell me how the tomb fares" I called out as I waved him over with my spare hand. He joined me to look at the hologram before starting to emit his findings.
Another chapter for you all today. I've decided to go with the Great Crusade/Heresy for this story because I think it's a lot more active than any other point. So much happens in such a short period of time.
I already know which Primarch he will meet, and I'll reveal more history for the tomb world next chapter. I'm having a bit of fun making up lore for this tomb and why it is this way.
