Chapter 2: Something BIG in the Woods
Carrie shone her torch all around, as she walked through the woods, trying to find out what caused the stomping. As Carrie looked around, while keeping on the trail of Giant footprints she found, leading into the woods, she found several trees around her had been scraped very badly. Tree branches lay everywhere, some trees had been stomped on… and some had been completely ripped out of the ground, with some even been thrown a distance away… The deeper Carrie went into the woods, the more nervous she got, but she kept on going, still curious to find out what she was following… But as Carrie looked up, shining her torch higher, her face dropped in a fright, almost dropping her torch too…
What Carrie was looking up at, was a silhouette shaped hole through the trees, but it was massive, towering over her… But whatever it was that made that hole, Carrie knew it wasn't human, or an animal, or anything remotely from earth…
Carrie then heard noises coming from the dark woods ahead of her, it sounded like, mechanical movement… Carrie was now quite scared, she now decided it was time to turn back, as she started to slowly and carefully walk backwards…
*SNAP! *
Carrie accidently stood on a large branch, causing a loud snap that echoed around the area… To Carrie's horror, two large brightly lit eyes, shone in Carrie's direction, spotting her, before eyes rose through and above the trees, revealing a Giant Metal Man, around 50ft Tall, as its Silver Grey Metal bolted body was illuminated by the moonlight. Carrie stood before the giant in so much fright, she couldn't move or a sound, as she look up straight at the Giant's beaming eyes… but after a few seconds, the Giant began to move, as the loud stomps of its feet sounded towards Carrie, who wasted no time and ran as fast as she could back the way she came, but dropped her torch in the process… Carrie found it hard to see, but managed to see enough of the Giant's trail to see where she was going. Carrie just kept running and running, but couldn't afford to stop to catch her breath, as The Giant's stomping was following behind her close…
But as Carrie continued to run, she tripped over another large branch, landing on her front, as the light beams from the Giant's eyes shone down on her. Carrie desperately crawled away, trying to scramble back on her feet… But as Carrie could see the Giant's hand reaching out, she curled into a ball on the ground, praying and pleading for mercy…
"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. His love be with me through the night and wake me with the morning light. And if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. In Jesus' name, Amen." Carrie cried in tears, praying for help and forgiveness, fearing this could be her last moments… but nothing happened…
Carrie cautiously opened her eyes, and looked up, to see the Giant not trying to grab her… but holding its hand out, as if it was offering help to a friend. Carrie slowly got up, and walked over to the Giant's hand, and stepped on, before HE stood up, giving the girl a friendly smile, causing Carrie to give a small smile back…
"Uh… Hello?" Carrie said softly.
"Hello…" The Giant replied in a slightly loud but soft tone.
"I'm… I'm Carrie…" Carrie introduced her name.
"Carrie…" The Giant repeated her name.
"Do you have a name?" Carrie asked, but the Giant softly shook his head.
"I'm sorry if I disturbed you, I guess I just got curious of what you are…" Carrie apologized, but the Giant seemed to accept her apology, as he gave a slight nod, along with another smile.
"So… where do you come from?" Carrie asked curiously, as the Giant pointed up to the sky, confirming to Carrie that he was not of this world.
"Do you… Do you have any friends or family?" Carrie asked curiously again, as the Giant's eyes gave a slight look of sadness…
"Hogarth…" The Giant replied, remembering his very first human friend from so many years ago… "Hogarth… Gone… Dead…"
"Oh… I'm sorry… I'm so sorry…" Carrie apologized again, feeling sorrow for the Giant… "Can I be a friend?"
The Giant gave a beaming happy smile, signifying he was happy to make a new friend, after being alone for so long, knowing that Hogarth would never want him to be alone… as Carrie smiled happily back, almost about to cry, knowing she never had any friends throughout her life… But maybe… Just maybe… Someone up above had heard Carrie's prayers, and listened…
To be Continued…

"Hi Readers, Rory Here, Hope you are all enjoying this new crossover I've started writing. I'm sorry for a shorter chapter, this one was mainly focusing on how Carrie meets the Iron Giant, and interacts with him for the first time, making her first ever friend… Despite him being not anything from her world. If anyone has any ideas for future chapters of this fanfic, let me know in your Reviews or PM me.
Thank you and enjoy, Rory out."
"P.S. I'd like to shout out a great WELCOME BACK to T-Rex-1000, who has recently returned to Fanfiction, but I also send my condolence and sympathy to him for the loss of his father…"
