"Stray"

"I have this under control."

"Do you really?" Hermione asked incredulously. They stood in the middle of the park on the walking path, a clear sky with the trees as the only bit of cool shade in the hot sweltering heat of the summer. There was no one else around except for a stray shaggy black dog who had run up to them excitedly upon seeing them, and who was currently nipping at their heels playfully. Theo had barely managed to get a bit of rope–that Hermione had in her purse–tied around the dog's throat as a makeshift lead. The dog had no collar, no tags, and no one around them seemed to be frantically looking for the dog.

It seemed friendly enough, and when Hermione kneeled down to check it over, it seemed to be in fine enough health. It frantically tried to lick her face, neck, and hands, whatever piece of skin it could find.

"Good boy," Theo stated as he got the dog to sit.

"Boy?" Hermione asked, raising an eyebrow in question.

"Boy," Theo confirmed, raising his own eyebrow back at her at her audacity to question him. "It was the first thing I checked as he jumped all over you." Hermione snorted in amusement. "What? Have you seen yourself? I thought I had to be worried when young Teddy Lupin threw himself at you when you picked him up for his birthday. Now I have to worry about a dog sniffing around as well!" His tone was teasing, and Hermione relaxed a bit, a grin springing forth.

"Well didn't you hear? I'm irresistible," she replied jokingly, squealing a bit as Theo grabbed her around the waist to draw her into a kiss that she melted into. He pulled back from her and stared at her intensely, their breaths mingling.

"You are," he stated sincerely, making her cheeks flush. "That's why I asked you out." He ruined the seriousness of his tone by winking at her, which only made Hermione burst out laughing.

"Alright, alright, enough about me!" Hermione exclaimed with a grin. "Let's start wandering around and see if we can find this guy's owner. I'm sure they're terribly worried about you!" she added, directing the last bit towards the dog, who only woofed happily at them.
