Historia gazed at the ceiling in awe. Random swirling crystallized pillars jutted everywhere, surrounding the Levi Squad. Eren's makeshift cage was created in the blink of an eye. Yet it stopped the ceiling from caving in on them.
Sasha cheered out loud, and Connie hugged her. Mikasa was already climbing the crystal statue of Eren. Levi ordered Jean to follow her. He then lectured Sasha and Connie, "Now's not the time to be celebrating. The ceiling could fall on us any second. Go find us an exit out of here."
The two saluted their captain and flew to the ceiling. Historia couldn't help smiling. All the stress from earlier faded. She was finally back where she belonged.
Her smile faded however when she noticed the trial of blood on the ground. Following the trail, she called for the Captain, "Captain Levi!".
The Captain mumbled a curse at the sight of the blood. "You're not hurt?" She nodded, "Then follow me." She complied.
They approached the edge of Eren's cage. There was a smaller cage surrounding the blond haired boy. His limbs were hanging outside. It was more like a chair than a cage, the way he sat in it. The boy was unconscious.
Levi approached the smaller cage from behind. "Eren, you idiot." When Historia went behind the small cage, she understood what the man meant. One of the crystals in the cage surrounding the boy was lodged into his back shoulder. The blood trickled steadily towards the cave floor.
Levi grabbed his hand guards and attached two blades. "Hold him."
"Yes Sir." She held his back upward. The Captain placed the jutting crystal between his blades and smashed it. It broke easily. A part of the crystal was still lodged inside the boy's shoulder.
Maneuvering his blades outside of the cage, he said, "Keep him steady. I don't want him piercing any more crystals." Historia nodded. Closing her eyes, she turned her head when the Captain smashed both his blades against the cage. She felt the small pieces of crystal bounce off her face.
Captain Levi grunted as he hit the cage. Historia remembered what the boy said earlier. About who he was and what his mission was. It was slightly before the cave lost its luminosity.
Historia didn't like the boy. Whenever he was around, strange things happened. When she met him on top of Wall Rose, Ymir acted strangely. Imagine if that had been her last conversation with her?
Despite this, his speech had reminded her of Ymir. Reminded her of how Ymir wanted her to live. Not under her fathers thumb. But for herself.
Levi, frustrated that the crystal wouldn't break, gave the cage a kick. Glass shattered as the boy fell into Historia's arms. Kneeling slightly, she caught him.
Somehow, the boy was still breathing. It was slightly uneven, but he was still breathing. She noticed a small scar at the bottom of his lip. I wonder how he got that?
He looked peaceful.
Historia's smile returned. I'm glad he's okay.
The Captain knelt next to her, "Are you alright?"
Historia stared at the Captain. She sometimes forgot how perceptive he was.
"Yes… It's just been a long day." She chuckled at her oversimplification.
Levi knelt and put the boy's body over his shoulders, "Well it's not over yet." He rose to full height with no effort. "Let's go." He ordered. Levi went ahead, carrying the almost two meter tall body on his own.
Historia rose after him. He was right. It wasn't over yet. And she was determined to see it through to the end.
It's time to end my family's legacy.
