Conflicts of Interest

"I can't believe this mom, you-!"

"Kelsey, you're not listening to me!"

Pulling his mask off and joining the other Avengers, except for Kelsey, Eddie asked.

"What'd I miss?"

Amanda turned him with a sigh. "Holly's got an issue with Kelsey taking part in further fights here...due to the danger."

Eddie nodded. "Ah, I see. Well-"

"Dude, no." Thomas remarked sharply.

"Guys, can we just calm this down, please." Barbara began.

Erica turned to her and shrugged. "You know neither of them are gonna back down right now, gotta let them run outta steam first."

Amanda then shrugged. "Mom has a point."

Eddie shook his head and turned away to do that, catching eyes with the other family members and their beloveds, all of them were clearly thinking along the same lines, just what Erica had said, this wasn't going to end yet, so he needed to do something else right now. He instead turned his attention to focus on the hidden base that Jake had found for them after their first year of being superheroes. It was their safehouse truthfully, a place to take cover in case of danger, if they were ever compromised, just like right now.

Given that their homes were no longer safe places, given the forced reveal of their identities, they had done the only thing they could, as such they were now practically living in their base. This also included bringing their families and beloveds here and therefore setting things up as much as possible. Before going into hiding here, they had carefully planned things out and made one last trip home to gather food, medical supplies and things they'd need, like their old weapons from the previous Upside-down battles. Of course there were beds and such in there, along with a few other things like the computers, other weapons and supplies for the Avengers. After Jake had found the place they got to work setting things up, with beds and such, keeping it ready in case of emergences, just like this one.

"You look a little...worried." Tanya's voice sounded next to him softly. "More than I'd expect, even with all this."

Eddie turned to his girlfriend who stood by him, watching him carefully, worried and he gave a soft smile, hugging her.

"I know, I'm sorry, it's just, with all this going on I feel overwhelmed." He admitted. "I know Jake isn't the oldest of us...but he's the first of us who became a superhero. So he's technically our leader and now...well-"

"Let me guess, you're the second to become a hero and with Jake...out of action, you're now in charge?" Tanya queried.

Eddie sighed but nodded.

Taking a deep breath he gently kissed her and straightened up.

"Thanks for checking up on me." He said gently. "Now, let's try and sort things out."

Tanya nodded and they went to rejoin the others.

"Kelsey, you're not listening to me, you're too young for all this-"

"Mom!"

"With all due respect, Mrs. Sanders." Amanda cut in at last. "Kelsey is the same age as my mom was when she took part in a battle like this, in her case against the Upside-down, remember."

"Ah...she has a point." Erica replied with a sheepish smile. "Plus, I didn't have super powers, whereas your daughter does and we are all working together, we need to be a strong unit."

Holly grimaced at that but then looked over at Kelsey, saw her looking back at her, resolute.

Finally, she sighed but smiled. "Kelsey, I...oh, very well."

She hugged her daughter.

"Mom-"

"You be careful and I'll make sure to watch your back." Holly said.

Kelsey let out a smile at was relieved. The others all nodded and while Thomas and Barbara shared a significant look, they had mentioned that they had a plan that might help them, so they agreed. First however they took care of their most immediate business, no more trainee stuff, Kelsey was now made a full-fledged member of the Avengers.

With that, the Avengers pulled their masks back on and Thomas and Barbara left the base first as they explained that they were going to meet with someone who they believed could help them with their current issues. They hoped they were right and watched the duo leave before looking to figure out their next move, that was when suddenly they got an alert.

"What's going on?" Nancy asked at once.

Black Panther reacted. "Jake's been spotted, c'mon, he's nearby. Let's go."

They all reacted at once and were soon making their way to the location, hoping to find Jake before it was too late. Unfortunately, they noted, due to some unexpected issues, Mike, Will and Jessica couldn't join them, mainly due to finding they had in fact been injured during their previous fight and as such, had to check their injuries while staying in the base.
