Logan and his team was next to the bridge early morning before the crowd pulled together. They had a chance to talk to Tillman the officer in charge. He told them in a nutshell what exactly they were hoping to hear from the other side and that there was a possibility for people to cross over. Officer's mood changed when first gangs members arrived. Their trucks loaded with weapons and they were ready to say no to any idea of helping people from the main land. Logan tried to talk to them but they refused and instead told Tillman and his men to get on the bridge and wait for another side to come.
More and more people were coming from the neighborhoods and even from Zones one and two. People were looking horrible, they were tired, angry, hungry and felt abandoned. They gathered in groups trying not to interfere with gangs. Logan did an attempt to talk to some of the citizens but they couldn't say much because they didn't know what was happening exactly. All they could say that they heard that people from the main land want to cross to the Zones and locals definitely were against it. Unfortunately they couldn't know what was driving people out from the main land and what they had been through.
-I don't have much juice left in my camera. I tried to charge it last night but it was enough. - said Ellie.
-I know… no electricity, no water… I'm surprised we got our generator still working. - said Logan. - I don't remember when the last time I took a normal shower.
-Tell me about it. I'm thinking of cutting my hair short because it's impossible to have long hair now. - she was scratching her scull.
They watched two police cars met with two cars from the main land. People were talking on the bridge and then one police car turned around and drove back to the Zone.
-Let's go we have to be close when Tillman will talk. - said Logan and his crew followed him through the crowd.
Tillman and one of his man came back and immediately was questioned by Yuri and other gangs members.
-Look, guys things are not pretty on the main land. In addition to some creep who murdered people, blow up bridges and cut all essential resources in the whole city… they got some sort of disease.
-What the fuck! What disease!? - asked Rico from Mexican gang.
-They don't know much about it. Something caused by toxin in the air.
-The green fog. - said Logan out-loud.
-Yes, but Captain Gordon said that people are dying from it in their sleep that's why they have to go from door to door and wake them up. It has also something to do with combination of the sound and toxic air.
-Sound? What sound? - asked Yuri, Russian mafia boss in the Zone three. His face was showing signs of disbelief.
-People who are terrorizing the City use everything they could to drive its citizens insane. They use sound to put them asleep and…
-And…? - asked half of the crowd in one voice.
-And when some of them wake up… they are not the same anymore … if they wake up.
-Fuck them! They ain't crossing! Go out there Tillman and tell them if anyone crosses the bridge they are dead. - screamed Yuri bringing his gun up.
A lot of people agreed with him.
-You can't decide for everyone, Yuri! We have to put it to the vote! - Tillman tried to reason the crowd.
-Oh, yes! Let's do elections! Ah-ha-ha! You gone crazy Tillman we got no time for it! Voting is nonsense! We must barricade the bridge and stay our ground here! - shouted several people.
-There are children! All those people are seeking a place where they can breath and now that place is Zones. We got some winds here and as far as I understood that guy Evan didn't do anything in the zones. He was harming people from the main land!
-Fuck yeh! He is right on that harming thing! The city authorities locked us up on the Zones land with no opportunities to live as normal people and now when some psycho killing them they want to come here and save their asses. What we going to do if that guy comes here? Do you know how many men he has, how many toxic chemicals? What if he has all power to do the same chaos in the Zones?!
Officer Tillman tried to talk to the crowd for twenty more minutes but his words was just a sound for angry and tired people.
-Ok! What do you want me to tell them!? - finally officer gave up.
-Tell them to go to hell! - roared Yuri and many more from the different gangs. - Tell them if they try to cross we will shoot in order to protect our people since nobody else can!
Tillman and two other officers set in a car and was about to drive off but White Shadow emerged right in front of the vehicle.
Crown made terrified sound and went silent.
-It's White Shadow! - mumbled Logan
-Citizens of the Zones! - she screamed and climbed on the police car, Tillman and his officers left from it quickly.
-I know you are tired and have no hope, I know your first instinct is to protect themselves and I know you feel strong denying path to those people. - she pointed across the river. - But you are wrong in doing so because when you will be out of bullets and your knifes will be as good as river rocks then you won't be so brave anymore because there will be no you or Zones or your children or the future! This city is abandoned and now it is viewed as a big zoo in the eyes of our government! When it's all over and the last of us dies they won't open the city they tend to preserve it as an experimental platform! Your future is in your hands now more than ever! Only you can unite as people of Gotham City! Only you can fight back the disease we all have been exposed to and only you can rebuild this city on your own terms! The city government wasn't the one who divided the city! There is more into it and much bigger people stand behind the separation! Please, I'm asking you as a citizen of the Zones and City of Gotham stand up and let those people pass until it's too late for all of us!
The crowd was silent even gangs members were whispering amongst each other. White Shadow jumped from the car just to let Batman get down on it. The car shook violently and people backed away from it.
-I know you do not trust me! - said Batman. - But I do trust you to make the right choice! Together we can defeat that evil plan! I got the bullets which can put to sleep the violent people and I believe we can cure them when all of it will be over. People of Gotham always stood strong and people of Zones are people of Gotham too! We will fight but not against each other but against those who want to take our life! Those people across the bridge are not your enemies and they have no part taken in the division of Gotham City. They will fight with you and they will fight for you for the better future of Gotham City! - his voice was strong and powerful and no one made a sound while Batman was talking. But as soon as he finished the crowd screamed for support of the heroes.
It was time when the only bridge in the city of Gotham was open again and first groups of people started to cross.
