Chapter 8
Mount Justice
August 21, 6:35 EDT
Marina yawned openly as she unfolded herself from a standing hamstring stretch. She extended her arms upwards before bending her right elbow. Her right hand reached the nape of her neck and her left grasping below her right elbow. She felt her triceps ache as she stretched.
Marina ignored the discomfort, swiping the air for the computer's hologram keyboard. Her fingers whizzed through the buttons, inputting the solo training she'll have for that morning. The Mission room chimed as the floor began to glow blue. She stretched her other tricep, finishing up her warmup. A beep warned Marina of an incoming call.
"Batman to Lethe," the voice in her earpiece rang.
"Computer, display Batman," She called out to the advanced computer system. She turned to the middle of the room as the hologram of Batman appeared.
"At eight am, you are to take the ISEE in Gotham Academy. Your application and records have already been sent and evaluated." Marina raised her eyebrow.
"I'm guessing that those records are falsified." She pursed her lips. "I don't recall you ever saying that I needed to attend school."
"The League has decided that your gun privilege comes with some conditions. That being to attend a school and experience what it is to be a normal citizen of this universe. There is no need for further discussion," Batman grumbled. Despite her hesitation, she nodded either the less.
She glanced off. But she isn't a normal citizen, especially not in this universe. She frowned slightly. If she has to attend school, then her own research to get back to her universe will be compromised. She mentally shrugged. I guess I'll have to flunk it.
"Don't think about failing the test," Batman caught her attention. A deeper scowl etched on his face. "I'll know."
Marina slumped her shoulders. She curled her lip in defeat before raising her hands, "Why not just hold me hostage?"
"Gotham Academy at eight am. Don't be late. Batman, out." Marina rolled her eyes as the hologram disappeared. She returned to the computer. She edited her exercise lineup. She has enough time to get in a quick training session before she leaves.
Gotham Academy
Aug 21, 7:41 EDT
Stepping off the bus, Marina tried not to gape at the prestigious school. Arching white windows lined its brown facade. Huge green trees bordered the sides of the school building.
Marina couldn't help but think, what did I get myself into? She entered the campus.
Of course, he didn't even give a map. She grumbled about the Dark Knight as she wandered through the halls which lead to an open area. She stopped to analyze where she already walked through.
The exam room must be to the right then, Marina sighed as she walked past a giggling pair of girls. They were older than her, she noticed. Marina frowned as they entered the door with a sign that Marina saw a while ago, the women's toilet. Sighing, she cursed herself for missing the chance to ask. The last thing she needed to worry about was a bunch of girls judging her for not knowing where the hell she was.
"You here for Freshman Orientation?" A voice behind her caught her attention. Marina whipped around to see a boy behind her. He grinned at her, his blue eyes twinkled in amusement. She couldn't help but wonder if his mirth was because of her wandering like a lost child or of something else. Maybe even both?
"If you are, I would say don't bother even going," He said as he nodded his head to the gymnasium across the courtyard. "Total bore. I don't even know why they made it mandatory."
"To make friends?" Marina replied as she analyzed him from the corner of her eye. He was dressed in a white t-shirt with a green denim jacket thrown over. She noted that he was a student for about more than a year, judging by the way he dressed in jogging pants with the absence of any accessories.
He shrugged his shoulders. Marina brushed off the familiarity of his voice.
"Then, trying to sneak away from the lectures of new rules and regulations?"
"Yup. Though if you are going in, I would appreciate you not saying anything about it."
"I can't promise you anything. You shouldn't have been helping people out then, if you're trying to escape."
"You're right. But I was raised to help anyone in need."
Marina hummed and said, "Good to know. I'm actually looking for the ISEE examination room."
"Oh, then you just need to go straight. It's to the left. Room 313. You better hurry." He checked the clock tower at the side of the courtyard. "It's almost eight."
"Thanks," Marina nodded to him before beelining to the room. She entered quietly, observing the handful of late enrollees already seated on the chairs. Grabbing a #2 pencil from the box on the teacher's table, she plopped down on the rightmost chair. She did a quick analysis of the people there and the exits and entrances of the rooms. She was half tempted to jump out from one of them.
"Ah! I see that everyone is here." A man who looked to be in his middle 30s entered the room. He wore a brown jacket that was over a black shirt. The wrinkles of his crow's feet appeared and he smiled warmly at the late enrollees. "I am Tom Hamilton, Gotham Academy's Grade Ten history teacher. But today, I'll be your proctor this morning."
He explained what the ISEE was composed of which Marina barely listened to and distributed the test booklet and multiple-choice responses. Marina stared at the booklet that read– Independent School Entrance Exam- Upper Levels Grade 9-12.
"You're expected to finish before 11 am which gives you guys two hours and forty minutes to complete the 161 questions. Hopefully, you went to the bathroom before coming here as stated in the confirmation message. No questions during the exam will be entertained. So are there any questions before we start?" Her fellow exam takers gave a chorus of "no's". Mr. Hamilton smiled. "Very well. You may begin."
It only took Marina 45 minutes to finish. The ISEE was math-heavy so she felt relaxed while doing it. It was certainly easier than the questions and computation that Tony gave her before. She was just going for passable so there was nothing to worry about.
Don't try to fail. I'll know, the Bat's words echoed in her mind. She quietly groaned. She went back and refilled her answers. It's best to play it safe, she thought. Correcting the numbers as she went. Redoing them didn't take as much time as she thought. Well, she wanted to leave some wrong. She finished in another ten minutes.
Exams filled her preteen years. Taking them as efficiently as possible without raising suspicion was pressed into her mind. Passing them with flying colors seared her brain. She shuddered before shaking the thoughts away.
She doodled equations on the blank sheet behind the test book, trying to solve the upgraded potato launcher that she and Tony would try to improve in their free time. But only in their free time because other than Tony's suits, he would just want to share the improved potato gun with the boy that Tony talks to other than Peter and tease him about finding it first.
"You have 15 minutes before time is up," Hamilton echoed in the room. She didn't glance up from her paper. She smiled against her hand that cradled her chin.
Though Harley did improve the barrel and gauge, she personally felt that the launcher itself could be better with just minor fixes. After sketching the potato trajectory, she grinned at the final work of the potato gun 3.0. Her eyes flickered and scanned the paper, remembering all the numbers and replacement materials.
"Alright. Time's up, Place your pencils down and papers on your desk," Marina sighed. She squeezed her eyes tightly before stretching her arms. Her seatmate muttered obscenities as he placed down his pencil in a huff.
Marina glanced up to find the proctor looking directly at her. She tensed at his scrutinizing gaze. She relaxed when he smiled at her. "You may leave and I look forward to seeing you around Gotham Academy!"
As she walked by the front of the room, she placed the pencil back in the box and proceeded out. Strolling to the courtyard, she felt a presence following in step beside her.
"So what class will you be in?" The boy who helped her asked. She looked over her shoulder, unfazed by his quiet movements. He returned a friendly grin. She contemplated telling him anything about herself.
"Like lurking in the shadows much?" She asked, turning her attention back to the path in front of her. She heard the boy chuckle. While she could've sworn she heard, "You have no idea."
A wave of sound erupted from the gym across the school gardens. He jogged lightly to catch up with her.
"You're going to Grade Nine right?" He probed again. He folded his hands behind his head.
"I don't even know if I got in," She opted to reply. Not giving anything away. He cut in front of her. They both stare at each other.
"Don't worry. I know you will." A seemingly knowing grin appeared on his lips as his eyes slightly crinkled in reassurance.
Like the sea, Marina noted his somehow sparkling blue eyes. Heat warmed her neck, spreading to her cheeks and ear. She willed the cliche moment not to get to her. She saw a moving figure with a flash of red and more people coming near them.
"Dick, come on," Another male voice rang. She and "Dick" turned to see a group of people their age, moving across the courtyard to them. "Mrs. Jackson is calling everyone back in. Sounds like they already started."
"I think you better get going," Marina pretended not to notice the arms-crossed redhead glaring at her and "Dick." "Maybe I'll tell you if we see each other again."
"You better keep your promise. I have a feeling we'll be seeing each other sooner than you think." Still grinning, he replied before turning away and jogging to his friends. As soon as he was out of earshot, Marina saw the red-haired girl who immediately talked to him.
Unknowingly, Marina's gaze lingered after Dick. A sense of familiarity nagged in the back of her mind. Before they disappeared from view, she pried her eyes away. Dick's voice bothered her but the flash of blue caught her off guard. She pushed it away and made her way to the bus stop.
A message dinged in her pocket. She slid her phone out, peeking at the screen. Emergency meeting. Now. Kaldur.
Gotham City
August 27, 4:49 EDT
"This stinks… Literally!" Wally's voice rang through their telepathic link. Because of the stench and tight tunnels of Gotham's sewers, Marina couldn't bring herself to crack a smile. She kept her eyes off the walls, mentally battling her shallowing breaths.
1, 2, 3, 4… She thought, tracking her breathing. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…
"Uh, you okay there, Marina?" Wally's disembodied voice startled her. She shrugged it off, one hand stroking the gun at her hip.
"Yeah, sorry," she apologized on the link. She gave an excuse. "Counting down the seconds till we leave this shit hole."
Robin chuckled at the pun. "Well, Batman did say no ifs or butts…"
"Dude!" Wally nudged the younger boy's back. This time Marina smiled.
"Looks like the link is working fine," Superboy concluded blandly.
"It seems like Kaldur isn't in the link," M'gann stated. Marina glanced over her shoulder to see the martian worriedly frowning. She looked at their leader walking in front of her. She knew better than to jab him out of nowhere during the mission. M'gann clarified further, "It's like he's here but not fully."
"Try to call out to him specifically," Marina suggested. "Can you do it?"
M'gann nodded her head, "I'll try. Kaldur, can you hear us? Kaldur? Aqualad! Are you linked?"
"What…?" Kaldur finally replied. Marina felt M'gann sigh in relief. "Oh. Yes, Miss Martian, your psychic link functions perfectly." Marina studied Kaldur's back.
"That's a relief. We couldn't hear you… Like your every thought was a million miles away." M'gann explained. Kaldur fell back to silence. Marina watched his back tense more and more.
The wind knocked out of Marina's lungs as her right side slammed against the wall. A sticky, firm clay hand held her in place. Using her free hand, she took two longer blades from her back and slashed down on the clay arm that restricted her waist. The substance melted off her body. She slid the knives back into their sheaths. And brought out her guns.
She switched the magazine to another from her pockets. Electric bullets might work better for this kind of enemy. Different blasts reverberated around the tunnels. As she shot two bullets at the creature, the rest of the Team escaped from its clutches.
"That was unpleasant. Like tangling with a rabid ma'alefa'ak on mars," M'gann floated above them.
"Unpleasant, sure…" Wally grunted. "But kinda easy. That thing was a pushover. What the heck was Batman worried about?"
"What's a malafak?" Superboy grumbled, cupping his chest. Marina shook her head, stress mounting. She shivered in disgust when the grimey clay dripped under her suit.
"More like mathafak-" In a moment, something lifted her off her feet and dropped her head first into the sewer water. She gasped, sitting up. Although she didn't swallow anything, she sputtered in pain and caution. A maniacal laugh grew softer as the clay beast walked away from them.
A soft static sound broke out from their leader. Kaldur pressed a finger to his earpiece, "Yes, Batman. Though the encounter was far from successful."
"That's an understatement," Marina groaned. She wrinkled her nose when goop slid down her forehead.
"If that's Batman, ask him where Artemis is? And how come she gets away with skipping this so-fun sewer party?" Wally voiced his irritation.
"To the bioship, we cannot let the creature's trail go cold," Kaldur instructed them. Without any complaints, the Team sans Artemis happily moved out of the sewer.

"Man, I need a shower," Robin declared, fixing the new cape on his shoulders. Marina stepped out of the makeshift changing room. It immediately sunk back into the bioship.
She readjusted a fresh mask on the bridge of her nose. In all honesty, Marina smelled like she brought the sewer out of the tunnel with her. With a fresh towel around her neck, she entered the control room of the ship.
"I mean," Wally pulled up his mask, fixing it around his eyes. "What's the point of putting on a clean costume… when I'm not fresh?"
"Oh, Wally, you're always fresh," M'gann tried to lighten the mood.
Superboy grumbled, looking down at himself covered with clay and sewer water, "At least you have a clean costume." Marina tossed her towel to the clone. He caught it with his face. He scowled at her.
"Here," she stated, dropping to her own seat. He raised a brow at her, taking the towels in his hands. "A girl scout is always prepared." She explained, saluting him.
"Yeah, an old back-up," Kid Flash whined. "No stealth-mode! It stinks!"
"Actually," Robin interjected, recalling their talk earlier in the sewers. "I think the stink is you, freshness. But what about the creature? Batman wanted us to track it."
"Why settle for that? Okay, sure, it got the drop on us. But now we know its tricks!"
"Yeah! We split up! Then whoever finds old "Clayface" radios the Team."
Superboy jumped on Robin and Kid Flash's train of thought, "We converge and kick some clay-butt!" Marina remained quiet, waiting for Kaldur to speak up. Her attention flittered to the leader, who looked off to the side, lost in thought.
"What do you think, Aqualad?" M'gann asked. Kaldur snapped out of his daze.
"What? Oh. Yes…" He trailed off. Marina arched her brow.
"Aqualad, are you sure?" Marina stressed out. He nodded absentmindedly. She let any objections die in her throat. She wasn't all too confident about this divide-and-conquer plan but resigned to having no other idea on how to take on Clayface.
Gotham City
August 27, 6:04
The Bichel Co. warehouse laid eerily quiet. After splitting up, following different trails of mud, Marina found herself at the corner of the building. A camera caught her attention. She quickly surveyed different ways to reach it.
"Did you find anything?" Startled, Marina swiveled facing the voice with her gun and knife ready. Robin stood in front of her with a smile. She lowered her weapons.
"If I did, I would've called the others to rendezvous at my coordinates," she replied. She gave him a once over with narrowed eyes. "I thought that you were going east?"
He shrugged, "All clear. I wanted to see if you found something."
"Okay… I need help. I saw a camera up there and I thought we might be able to hack into it and get the live feed from around the building." He stepped toward her. Marina took one back in confusion. She backed up into a wall.
"What are you doing?" She kept her eyes on Robin. He smirked and slammed a hand on the wall beside her head. With wide eyes, she watched his face inch closer. Heat rushed to her face. Flustered, she ducked under the arm.
"W-What are you doing!" She asked again. Robin slowly turned to her. Marina noticed his arm shake and morph. Her hands dove for her weapons but it was too late. A club-shaped arm of clay swung at her, knocking her head to the side. Darkness overwhelmed her.
Mount Justice
August 27, 07:58 EDT
"I need to talk to Aqualad." Batman said in a low tone. He watched the Team as they filed out of the Zeta Tubes. "The rest of you hit the showers and head home." Clay splatters covered them from head to toe. They walked normally but they'll definitely feel it tomorrow. Marina gingerly touched the forming head bump.
"Head home? I am home." Superboy grumbled, walking past Batman with Miss M and K.F. Marina gave a bitter glare at the Leaguer before heading for the showers.
"Head home," she scoffed, stepping into the showers. M'gann took a quick shower. She dried her hair in the locker room attached to the girls' shower room.
"Since it's mor-" the martian yawned mid sentence. Marina heard the exhaustion in M'gann's voice over the pelting water around her. "-ning, will we need to eat breakfast?"
Marina stuck her head out of the shower. Her wet caramel hair clung to her shoulders. "I can take care of it, M'gann." She felt bad for her teammate. She still was getting used to the late nights and lack of sleep. Marina had years of it that she became somewhat immune. "Let's take it easy today. Have some downtime."
M'gann wearily nodded. She exited the locker room and Marina returned to her shower. She soaked underneath the water. Clay and sewer residue washed away from her body, going down the drain.
Home… The word brought a new wave of hurt. She had a home with Tony and the rest of the Avengers. If she could help it, she wouldn't want to call the Cave- this world- her home when her heart wasn't here.
But when she's with the Team… she felt like she was starting to belong. She finally has friends her age. Her past didn't lurk in the shadows, waiting to drag her back in. She thought about the missions entrusted to them, their laughs together, and their comfort in one another. She finally was accomplishing missions like she wanted.
Guilt mixed with realization. Should she feel this way when Tony is without a doubt going insane with worry?
She wanted to go back to Tony. She knew that the separation of the Avengers was slowly splitting him apart. She vowed to herself to pick up his pieces and glue them back together. But she admitted the truth to herself.
Walking around with no media and blood trailing after her, felt… freeing. It frightened her to her core. She lathered her hair carefully.
She felt free like flying in the air or standing in front of the wide blue ocean. A flash of a pair of blue eyes crossed her mind. She blinked in surprise. Waterdrops hung off her eyelashes. The boy from Gotham Academy.
"Why would you think about that now?" She whispered to herself. She pushed it aside. She finished cleaning herself. Wrapping a towel around herself, Marina stepped toward her locker. When she opened the metal door, her domino mask stared back at her.
The Bichel Co. warehouse resurfaced in her thoughts. She frowned. The Team got their asses handed to them. The monster now dubbed "Clayface" had different skills that clay itself cannot do.
Transforming externally to another person was impossible for any property of clay. Transformation… Robin's face closing in on hers. Her eyes explored his mask in confusion. Blushing from their distance.
She slammed her hands over her cheeks. Warmth heated her palms. "It was Clayface disguised as Robin," she scolded herself. She got dressed into a pair of sweats and a tank top. She shut her locker door close. Her reflection looked at her from the sides of the locker.
Marina watched herself. A slow question rose from her mouth. "Why would I be so flustered if he was that close?" From all the things happening in her life already, she didn't want to know.
Living more than a month in the Cave, the Team and Red Tornado decided to give her her own office. She came home from the Gotham Academy to see Kaldur, M'gann and Superboy waiting for her.
"For you to have your own space!" M'gann said excitedly. Superboy beside her shrugged his shoulders.
"We had enough fires coming from the living room."
Marina didn't retort, still gaping at the room. Though it wasn't nearly as big as Tony's workshop, it was large enough to stave off her claustrophobia. What made it even more perfect was the frosted glass wall that held double doors. Being able to see the open space of the hangar will especially help her breathe more.
To everyone's surprise, she engulfed the three older teens in a big embrace. While M'gann returned it and Kaldur simply patted her head, Superboy stood awkwardly. She nearly squealed when they showed her around her new workspace, equipped with a table pushed to the left of the double doors, a swivel chair, a workbench, and storage boxes for her tools and old blueprints
In the past six days, she worked to transform the space. She laid out different blueprints tacked against the tool board above the work table. She sketched out two new home computers and a framework of a system for ALICE to run when she gets built into the room.
After coordinating with Red Tornado, Marina ordered a list of tools, parts and metals on the first day. The price was subtracted from her Team allowance. Now, she was swimming in metal. The process of inventing always required a little mess to create works of art.
When it gave birth to a new coding-heavy computer on her desk and different transparent monitors on the wall, she didn't mind the clutter. Marina sucked in a breath. The moment of truth.
She clapped her hands. The lights switched on while her devices hummed to life. "ALICE, status," Marina announced to the room.
"Welcome, Marina," an English accent spoke through the speakers she installed at the corners of the room. "All operations are functional."
Marina laughed at the success. For more than twenty days, she slaved over fixing ALICE and surprisingly with the help of Robin, she finished it way sooner than she anticipated. Updated vocabulary and rendering was a pain but she got through it.
Hooking the AI to the entire room got divided into different times due to the mission and other training assigned by Batman. Judging the time displayed on the computer, it took around 26 hours.
"ALICE, as our first order of business, drop my needle!" AC/DC's Shoot to Thrill erupted from her speakers. The girl grinned to herself, bobbing her head to the music. Marina danced victoriously to the song.
She slid to the space before her built- in transparent monitor on the other end of the double-door office. She cracked her knuckles. "ALICE, give me a news update and a standard 3D printer blueprint."
On the upper left corner, varying boxes with headlines appeared. Muted video reels played behind some words. "Working on a blueprint now," ALICE replied before a sketch occupied the vacant screen. Marina took a sip from the mug and settled it on a roller metal storage. She happily savored the cold coffee.
"Let's get to work."
Time flies by quickly when you're designing a 3D printer that aims to rival Ironman's, Marina groaned. Her leg prickled, falling asleep while she worked with ALICE. Her stomach rumbled, demanding to be fed.
"What time is it?" She moaned, slumping on her chair.
"It is currently 5:47 pm," ALICE answered. Marina nodded, thinking to grab a snack from the kitchen. She stood up and massaged her neck.
"Run the numbers one last time. I'm going to grab something to eat."
"Got it, boss," ALICE replied. The wall screen flooded with different algorithms. Marina stepped out of her workshop. She played her blueprint in her head as she walked down the corridor. Maybe I should ask Wal-
Her trail of thoughts skidded to a halt when she arrived at the kitchen. Superboy, covered in milk and eggs, and M'gann stood inches apart, lost in each other's eyes. Marina blanched, eyes darting around the room as she figured out what to do. She waited for them to notice her standing in the doorway.
A small smile crept to her face as the two love birds didn't so much as move. Another candidate for the cutest couple, Marina thought before she cleared her throat loudly. The two sprang apart.
"M-Marina!" M'gann squeaked out. A vibrant flush rose to her cheeks. She fidgeted while Superboy calmly walked to their couch. He sat in front of the "No Signal" TV.
"Hey M'gann," she raised a brow teasingly at the martian, who looked down bashfully. Deciding to be merciful, Marina did not bring up the topic. "I'm just picking up a snack. You can continue whatever is going on here-"
"No!" M'gann shrieked. She waved her hands frantically before forcing herself to calm down. "Nothing going on here." She shot Marina a fake relaxed smile.
Marina nodded her head, taking a bag of chips out of the cupboard. "Uh-huh." She hummed, not believing M'gann for a second. She opened the bag. "I'll be in my office if you need me."
"Maybe I should move out," Marina spoke to herself. She stuffed the junk food into her mouth. She sat on her swivel chair. "What do you think, ALICE?"
"Oh yes, an excellent idea, ma'am. A young girl living on her own," The AI responded blandly. The corners of Marina's lips tugged upward.
"Where did you learn sarcasm?" Marina asked, looking up. "You were literally born a few hours ago."
"You forget who my creator is."
Marina shrugged. "Touché. Alright, where were we?" Sitting, she pulled herself to the middle of the room.
"The printer has run through the simulation successfully," Marina crumpled the chip bag and tossed it to the bin tucked in the corner. She spun around when it landed perfectly. "Ma'am, Red Tornado is approaching."
Marina stopped her turn at the moment Red Tornado entered the open double doors. She plastered on the fakest apologetic look.
"Oh, I'm sorry, sir. However, official consulting hours are between eight to five, every other Thursday. Please come back during those times."
"You are not a working office nor are your doors shut to indicate that you are closed," Red Tornado pointed out. Marina slightly scowled before letting it slide. She kept the doors open to give her more breathing room. This was obviously an unwanted consequence.
"Fine, what do you want?" Marina crossed her arms. Red Tornado stood perfectly still. He robotically handed her a crisp white envelope. She eyed it carefully before taking it.
A Gotham Academy crest was pressed into the upper right corner. She tore it open and unfolded the letter within.
Gotham Academy. Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
Dear Miss Marina Marks, I am delighted to inform you that you have been granted a full WayneTech scholarship to the Gotham Academy. This will include TUITION and all EXPENSES.
"I got in?" She whispered incredulously.
"Congratulations, ma'am," ALICE greeted her happily. Marina waved it off, continuing to read the words.
"WayneTech and Gotham Academy have partnered each year since the foundation of WayneTech to develop and nurture promising students," she muttered to herself. She spoke the words to register it further.
"With the mission to better the world through technological improvements, the WayneTech scholarship selects one to five students to study math, sciences, and other advanced-level classes.
Naturally, the final decision to attend remains yours, but we hope that you will choose to join us at Gotham Academy. To ensure your official enrollment, please fill out and return the enclosed forms no later than September 12, 2010."
Sincerely,
Philip Wilcox,
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid
Marina read the letter twice, thrice. She tried to make sense of what was happening. She glanced back up to the android. She waited for him to explode in confetti and exclaim "Got you!"
"I must congratulate you," he declared, instead. "According to the admissions, your scores were in the Top Three percent of all of the school's entrance exams. You were granted a full scholarship."
"W-What?" She stuttered out in disbelief. Sure, she answered it seriously– mostly- because of what Batman said but she didn't expect to be Top Three percent. Especially with some items that she purposely left wrong.
"Apparently, the proctor brought the administrators' attention to the blank sheet behind the test book," Marina paled. "While it normally serves as a sheet for solving the examination questions, they found your formulas for a quote potato launcher. Thus it garnered some points for innovation."
She slammed her hands on her face and groaned. She thought that they wouldn't care about the scratch paper. She shouldn't have taken the chance.
"The League will require an answer by the end of this week," Red Tornado continued. "However, I would like to remind you that your gun privileges depend on your reply. I suggest you think about it wisely."
Marina gnawed on her bottom lip. The android left her alone with her thoughts. She stared blankly out of the doors and into the empty hangar.
