A few days go by as Saphira was forced to remain in the hut under the watchful eyes of the village physician. When she had first been brought into the hut, Saphira saw it was full of medicines, herbs, tools, a wooden tub and bed. This was unsurprising to Saphira, given that she had expected that. When she had entered the hut, the women helped her out from her clothes, which revealed the true extent of her injuries and shocking the women. Saphira had thought she would be given a dress to be covered, but the women ensured that Saphira would not be seen by any of the men in the village, as she wasn't given anything to cover her body straight away.
They had her lay on her side so that the physician could take a closer look at her injuries. The woman was not too worried about the scratches compared to her ribs. And the way the woman had to determine the extent of her injuries was by touching. Saphira had to unfortunately endure feel the woman pressing her fingers into her fingers and feeling, which hurt so much and she was certain that Optimus would have heard her pained cries. But she was glad he did not interfere.
After that, the woman seemed to understand the severity of the injury to her ribs and turned her attention to her back. And the first thing she did was clean the blood from Saphira's body. Saphira knew she was extremely lucky that Scourge had not done any further injuries to her. He could have easily crushed her if he wanted. But Saphira guessed she was just lucky that Scourge seemed to be more interested in toying with her, even if he would have killed her easily. And she did actually believe that Scourge would have kept her to himself if he won…and that was a nightmare she would have lived out for a long time.
The women did give Saphira a tea that actually made her sleep while the physician tended to her wounds. It actually was good as when Saphira awoke later, she felt better, but the physician would only let her up to relieve herself, which Saphira was embarrassed about. But the physician was very patient with her, even with the language barrier in the way, as they managed to figure out how to communicate through gestures and Saphira was glad.
Aside from that, she was also given some stuff to relieve the pain she was feeling, and she was glad because she was definitely a lot more comfortable. Her wounds did not get infected thankfully, and were healing quite nicely, even after the first day. Saphira guessed that the medicine the tribe uses was very effective, and it was good. But she doubted that the wounds would be fully healed for a while. It was her ribs that was the main concern. Without an x-ray, it would be hard to know how many were broken and how long it would take to heal.
But Saphira definitely appreciate the help from the physician, and she would certainly feel a lot better when she did return to North America. She just did not know when that will happen, considering Saphira did want to see more of Peru while they were here. But she would need to get an x-ray before that happens. Especially since they would likely return to Peru to visit the maximals as they could not visit North America.
Saphira and Optimus did find time to speak to each other. When Saphira was alone, she took the time to speak with him. She learned Primal had left to tend to his sparkmate and sparkling, and he has yet to return. Optimus told her his sparkling was causing trouble, which Saphira could see. She did wonder what Primal's sparkling even looked like. She was curious because she did want to have a sparkling with Optimus, even if it was many years away.
It was definitely annoying that she was forced to remain in the hut for the few days, but she did not complain at all. She actually was happy when Optimus managed to learn the language of the tribe and began to speak to the chief and translate words to her. It made the whole time a lot easier, even though Saphira did hope to learn the language herself, since they are likely going to be involved with the tribe for many years. Especially if and when Saphira gets pregnant and needs a place to stay for the birth. So it will be necessary. Optimus promised to teach her the language thankfully, so she was eager to learn.
By the fourth morning, Saphira was finally given the clear by the physician. They had kept her in the hut to ensure that the scratches were healing, and they were healing well. While they were concerned for her ribs, the pain relief they have given her has helped. And it definitely would be enough to get her through until they would go back to North America. But the physician wanted her to remain in the village for a bit longer, even if she was allowed to leave the hut.
Wearing a light, beige dress, Saphira braided her hair to look decent enough before making her way out of the hut that morning. She had already had some food provided by the village, which was fruits they had foraged that morning, and she was feeling very happy. She stood in front of the hut, breathing in the fresh air of the morning, and looked over at the fire that was being tended to. She felt awkward she couldn't help, but she knew being unfamiliar with their traditions would prevent her from being able to do so. And she probably would be told not to, given how they view her and her relationship with Optimus.
Saphira walked away from the hut, looking towards the mountain for a moment as she thought about the battle that waged at the top before looking around and spotting the autobots and maximals gathered a little distance from the village. She smiled as she made her way out of the village to approach them. It felt good to feel the grass under her feet as she made her way over to them. She could see they were fully repaired, and it seemed Mirage was attempting to tackle Cheetor in some kind of wrestling game, but Cheetor was beating him.
Arcee was the first to notice Saphira walking towards them and she smiled at her. "I see they finally let you out, Saphira." Wheeljack, Bumblebee and Optimus turn their heads upon hearing Arcee's comment. Saphira nodded with a smile. "I hope you are feeling a lot better today. The women were pretty insistent in keeping you under the watchful eye of their medic."
"I do feel better, thanks. My ribs still hurt, but I will be okay." Saphira looked towards Mirage and Cheetor as there was a loud thump, and she giggled as Cheetor was holding Mirage's shoulders down with his paws. "Did I walk into a friendly competition?"
Bumblebee nodded affirmatively. "But there's only one side winning."
"Not my fault!" Mirage exclaimed as Cheetor stepped off the young bot in amusement. Mirage narrowed his optics and stood up, brushing dirt from his body. "I'm not a maximal."
"Indeed, you are not." Cheetor chuckled in amusement at the young body. "You are not nearly as agile as I am, no matter how agile you think you are." Mirage rolled his optics with a groan. "But I do enjoy the occasional wrestle. It is fun to let loose some steam every now and then. And believe me, I imagine we will get a lot of that when Primal gets back."
"He must be enjoying some quality time with his sparkmate," Saphira said thoughtfully as she approached Optimus. "I don't blame him. I imagine she would have been terrified of losing him." She looked up at Optimus as he nodded slightly in agreement. He lowered his hand and she stepped into his palm. "At least I should be free to go when the physician says so."
Optimus brought her closer and kissed her gently before moving her to his shoulder. "They have done a very good job tending to your injuries. At least when we go back up north, you should be able to recover easier." She was hoping for that as she climbed onto Optimus's shoulder and settled next to his cheek as she shuffled next to him. She noticed he made sure she wouldn't be leaning against him with her injured side, and that was extremely thoughtful of him. "It has been a very long time since we have been able to relax like this."
Saphira caressed his cheek as she listened to him. "It would seem so. You all look very relaxed than what you have. You no longer sit with tension and worry." Optimus seemed surprised she noticed that. "Only Wheeljack really seemed relaxed until we had to deal with the terrorcons."
"I didn't realize we seemed that different before," Arcee commented with an impressed expression. "Though I guess that is understandable to a point." She chuckled as she was also amused by Saphira's observation. "I guess she will know when we are annoyed or irritated now. But I guess that is okay."
Saphira chuckled softly. "Don't worry, I won't point it out. That would be annoying otherwise." She turned her head as a butterfly flew by her and she smiled as it landed on the back of her hand. She lifts it slowly and Optimus turned his head slightly as he noticed as well. "I love being here. I've never had butterflies land on me before. And the air is just so fresh here."
"The animals here are definitely quite intriguing," Optimus said in agreement, watching the butterfly open and close its wings slowly while resting on Saphira's hand. "The fireflies come out every night, the butterflies fly to the many flowers around the valley and Cheetor pointed out a couple jaguars to us last night." Saphira wished she could have seen that as seeing the animals in their natural habitat would be great.
Mirage nodded in agreement. "I even spotted some large, brown, rodent looking animals by the river…" Saphira looked at Mirage with a gasp of surprise and excitement, which also surprised Mirage. "Oh, you know what they are."
"I hope so." She looked at Rhinox, who was sitting next to Wheeljack, with a curious expression. "Are there capybaras around here?"
Rhinox chuckled in amusement and nodded. "I could tell you knew exactly what they are." Rhinox groaned as he stood up. "I think it is fair that you get to see them." Optimus was intrigued and he stood up, though he was uncertain if it was safe. "You might find some of the villagers hanging around them. They are a respected animal by the tribe, along with the caiman and jaguar."
"Okay…but…" Mirage looked at Saphira curiously as he was confused why Saphira was excited. "These things look like giant rodents. I've observed humans freaking out over mice and rats, and now you are about to go and see these large rodents. I don't know if I understand."
Saphira chuckled as she understood Mirage's reasoning. "It might seem strange to you, but capybaras are more like giant guinea pigs. They are the largest rodent in the world, and they are also the most chill thing you'll ever meet." Mirage seemed more intrigued now that he heard more about the animal. "Plus, people keep rats, rabbits, guinea pigs and mice as pets. But in terms of the rats and mice that are menace, they are wild animals. Plus, they often carry diseases with them, so they are not very clean."
"Right…" Mirage processed it thoughtfully before he continued. "But I don't know if I fully understand why people get scared of those small animals?"
"Were there any vermin type critters on Cybertron that would make you run a hundred miles in an instant?" Saphira asked rhetorically with a smirk, and Mirage grimaced for a moment and nodded. "I thought so." She giggled softly. "Truthfully, um, I feel rats are worse than mice. Not just because they're bigger, but rats can and have attacked people. Mice tend to be shyer than rats. But overall, I think it's more the sudden movement of the animals, not so much how they look. Whereas spiders and snakes are different."
"How so?" Arcee questioned curiously.
"Unlike the butterfly that landed on my hand before, spiders are arachnids, not insects. Spiders have eight legs, and they have a type of fur or something over their bodies. While not all spiders are dangers, it is really to appearance of the spider that makes people squirm. However, I am not afraid of them. I've handled them more than a few times." That was a surprise to the bots and Saphira smiled. "Well…um…because of my childhood…" Optimus's expression immediately softened to sympathy as Saphira spoke of her childhood. "When I was locked up, there were always spiders in the room. I grew to admire them and respect them. And I can handle them without being bitten."
Mirage chuckled softly as he listened to her. "I bet a lot of people would look at you and think you are crazy."
She nodded. "They would. But I think they would understand if they…well…knew…which is also another reason why I don't like rats. There were rats in the room with me, and they were more trouble than the spiders ever were."
"Right…" Mirage grimaced as he felt bad for laughing a little, even though he was more amused by the fact that Saphira could pick up a spider and other humans would likely freak out. "Sorry for laughing."
"It's okay, Mirage. I knew why you were laughing." The bot was glad she was not upset by it, and Saphira looked ahead as she began to hear capybara noises. She became more excited the closer they got. "I cannot wait to see those mammals!"
Cheetor chuckled softly. "I can't say I blame you. The tribe children spend a lot of time with those animals. And sometimes end up leading a bunch of them to the tribe where they are fed and pampered until the animals leave on their own occurred."
"I am not surprised. Being the way they are, capybaras are just the most chill thing on this planet. And I can't wait to meet them. I've only ever read about them in books." Saphira looked at Optimus with the excitement in her eyes. "Too bad we can't keep them as pets."
Optimus was surprised Saphira would want a wild animal as a pet, but it seemed these animals were already used to human contact, so it might be possible. But he did know these animals belonged in the forest and not North America. "It would seem they would be good companions. But I only say that based upon what I am hearing. But I think it would be unwise. After all, this is their home, and you might get in trouble if another human sees it."
"I know. I was just wishing I could keep one. I could always settle for a guinea pig anyway." Saphira did not know if she would get any pets when returning to North America. She had always wanted a pet for companionship, but the autobots had been giving her that. But she might still consider a pet regardless. "When we do get back, I might look for a place outside New York. I think I am done living in the city. Living somewhere in the countryside sounds more inviting."
Optimus nodded in agreement. It would help with a new start for the girl, and Optimus was certain there would be plenty of room for the autobots to transform into their full forms to spend time with her. After all, they were here to stay. He did not know what other plans Saphira had though, but he was glad that is what she wanted. And he would stand by her. He knew he couldn't do the same for her as a human could, like a job, but Saphira didn't need to worry about money. So they could live a very long life together. Optimus hoped to ensure that with their spark bonding.
Upon reaching the slope down to the river, Saphira gasped loudly as she spotted the large group of capybaras resting by the river. She was super excited. "Put me down!" Optimus looked at her in surprise. "Put me down! They won't hurt me."
Optimus was amused by the girl's excitement as he gently lifted her from his shoulder and placed her on the ground. As soon as Saphira's feet touched the ground, she raced down the hill towards the river excitedly. Optimus hummed softly as seeing her excited like this was rare, and it warmed his spark. Even though he had no knowledge about capybaras, he accepted that these animals could be interacted with, but he just hoped that Saphira wouldn't anger any of the animals.
Saphira stopped as soon as she reached the bank as she stared at the large, brown mammals in front of her. A few of the capybaras had turned their heads to look at her, but they were focused on chewing their food and were unbothered by her running over to them. She knew they would probably be used to that. Several of the tribal children were here as well, and they were sitting by several capybaras that were laying in some mud and they were filling leaves with water to pour onto the mammals, and the animals were thoroughly enjoying it.
Saphira walked over to one of the capybaras and crouched, looking at it with a big smile. It was completely ignoring her and focused eating a fallen apple from the ground. Saphira reached her hand out to pet the head gently and the animal didn't reach to her. She was gentle and slow in case the animal would show signs it wanted to be left alone. But it was ignoring her, so she was very excited by that.
She shifted to sit more comfortably by the animal as it completely ignored her while she rubbed its head. She looked around as she listened to the sounds of the capybaras as they chilled by the river. Saphira knew she would likely want to come back to Peru just to spend time with these animals, not just to see the maximals. They were just such an awesome animal to just hang around with due to their unbothered nature. Saphira did know capybaras could protect themselves if needed, but they do seem to know what creatures they should even be worried about or not.
"Wow…you weren't kidding about them being so chill. I have been wondering why the children come down here regularly." Mirage looked at the animals curiously. The capybaras didn't even flinch when the autobots approached. They were likely used to the maximals, so they might think that the autobots were the same. "They don't even seem to care about us. It's strange, because I remember how many deer and wolves ran from us before."
"Different animals, Mirage." Saphira relaxed her arm and took a deep breath, smiling as she looked around. "This is my kind of day, I think. Spending the day by a river with amazing animals."
Wheeljack snorted in amusement. "Mujer joven, I would think spending the day with Optimus in amorío would be your kind of day." Saphira nodded and looked back at Optimus with a smile. Optimus was amused, and she giggled at him, knowing that she definitely would spend an entire day with Optimus. Wheeljack looked at Prime curiously. "I can imagine you wish for a romántico moment soon."
Optimus nodded. "When Saphira's ribs have healed enough. I will not risk further injury."
"Wise decision." Wheeljack tapped his fingers on his knees with a hum. "I hope you don't mind if tag along with you back to North America when you go back. Now that I know the mujer joven, and we no longer have to deal with Unicron or Megatron, I wouldn't mind hanging around a bit more. I love Peru, but I know my familia will only visit otherwise."
"The choice will be yours, Wheeljack. You are most welcome to travel back with us when we return to North America." Optimus had no doubt that Wheeljack would enjoy being in North America, considering Saphira did not wish to remain in New York. Optimus turned his head as he heard movement in the trees suddenly and when the capybaras suddenly scattered, Saphira quickly rose to her feet, as she knew that was not a good sign. "Something is coming."
Saphira looked around curiously, and she noticed the children were looking around too, before they seemed to get excited. Cheetor and Rhinox both groan a little and Rhinox looked at Cheetor. "Here comes trouble."
Saphira raised an eyebrow as it seemed that the maximals and the children knew what was coming. "Trouble? What do you…" Saphira shrieked and jumped back, almost slipping and falling backwards as something dropped down in front of her suddenly, and she took a deep breath until she realized she was looking into golden optics. She blinked and saw this was a maximal. A baby maximal though. It was not much bigger than her with pale golden metal plates instead of the gorilla shade of black like Primal. She immediately guessed this was Primal's sparkling as he hung from the branch of a tree. "I see what you mean now, Cheetor. This must be Primal's sparkling…"
"Yes, yes I am!" The maximal responded, dropping to the ground and standing back on his feet. "Papa told us a lot about you. About the autobots, about Unicron, how you saved the universe…I am jealous!" He giggled before walking a circle around Saphira. "You are different to mama."
Saphira chuckled a little as she could sense the curiosity burning from the maximal. "Yes, I am different. Your mother and I are not from the same country. I come from a place called New York city, which is quite far from here."
"Oh!" The maximal suddenly grabbed Saphira's arm, making the girl yelp in surprise and Optimus tensed a little as he worried that the sparkling would not realize his strength. Though the young maximal was looking at her skin intently. "I never thought I would see skin like this…" Saphira chuckled a little, knowing that was correct. "You sure the moon never burned your skin?"
"Uhh…" Saphira wasn't even sure how to respond to the maximal's question. "Um…no…" Saphira knew that the paleness of her skin was also a result of her not being in the sun a lot, but she did not know how to convey that to a sparkling. "I was just born this way…um…" The maximal hummed before letting her go, which was relieved. "But why are you here, anyway? Shouldn't you be with…"
"Mama and papa can't keep up with me. Mama is carrying my sibling, so she is too heavy to chase me anymore." He beats his chest to show he was proud of that before leaning closer and Saphira stepped back as the sparkling clearly had no boundary for personal space. "Why are your eyes so green? Papa said they were likely emeralds, but emeralds are gems…"
"SALVADOR!" Saphira flinched and the sparkling immediately backed away from Saphira at the boom of Primal's voice. Saphira looked up and smiled when she saw Primal at the top of the hill. "Did I not tell you to give Saphira space? She's got a severe injury, and she is not used to having anyone climbing over her."
Saphira looked at Salvador as he was looking down and crouching with guilty in his eyes. "Yes, papa…you did tell me…I got too excited…"
"You have to remember that you are stronger than humans, Salvador. You might still be an infant, but you can easily hurt humans." Primal looked at Saphira as he softened his stern expression. "I apologize for my son's actions…"
"No, no, it's okay." Saphira waved her arms with a smile on her face. "I'm more upset the capybaras ran away because of his entrance, but that is okay. He's just curious." Salvador seemed happy Saphira was not mad at him. Saphira looked at Salvador. "If you have questions about me, you can ask without grabbing or getting too close, Salvador. I do need space around me."
"He doesn't know what personal space is yet." Saphira turned her head, and the autobots also turn their heads, and they see a woman walking from the long grass wearing a beige dress. She caressed the bulge of her heavy, pregnant stomach, and Salvador backed away from her. "I keep trying to teach, but it is not getting through." Saphira stared at the woman in surprise as she saw that this woman's eyes almost looked like gold, and her tan skin skin also had a gold tint to it, giving her a near golden appearance. Her dark brown hair was braided and she looked at Saphira with a smile. "It is nice to finally meet you. I am Saywa, Primal's sparkmate."
Saphira was very happy to meet her as she had not thought she would meet her. "It is nice to meet you too. I haven't heard too much about you from Primal, but only that you and I seem to share similarities."
Saywa nodded. "He told me the same too. But I am not sure about that yet. You and I only just met. But…" The woman turned and looked up at Optimus Prime for the first time. "I must admit, meeting you is exciting. But I also have to get used to the fact you are Optimus Prime, and my sparkmate is Optimus Primal."
Saphira giggled softly. "I said the same thing."
"I bet you did." Saywa looked at Salvador as the sparkling ran around her and over towards Cheetor. Saywa watched him and smiled at him. "You'd better keep him out of trouble, Cheetor."
"You know me!" Cheetor let out a laugh as the sparkling tackled him suddenly and he rolled to the side. "Have I ever brought you trouble?"
Saywa rolled her eyes with a chuckle. "Too many times." Cheetor just laughed in response at her as Salvador jumped into the tree above and the maximal stood up, looking at him. "Just make sure he lets off enough steam today. I am getting tired of his rambunctious behavior at the moment."
Saphira watched as Cheetor and Rhinox followed Salvador, and Mirage and Bumblebee stood up to follow as they were curious about the young maximal, and wanted to join the fun. "Something to look forward to it seems."
Saywa nodded. "Yeah, but I hope you'll be spark bonded by than." Saphira blushed and looked at Optimus. "I say that because without it, I don't think I could carry, birth and handle a sparkling. But I am sure Primal and Optimus would say that."
"Indeed." Saywa looked at Optimus again with a polite smile. "It is an honor to meet the sparkmate of Optimus Primal. I had not been sure if we would meet you, as Primal said you were in a different location."
"Yeah…but I decided to come to the village early. It's more comfortable here than at home at the moment." Saywa caressed her stomach and sighed deeply. "Plus, I kind of nagged Primal to bring me. I am only here because I am no longer giving him a headache." She leaned a little, smirking at Primal with a teasing expression.
Primal smiled as he sat down beside Optimus, amused by the woman's comment. "You would never give me a headache, Saywa. I know you think I do, but I promise that I do not." Saywa just chuckled as she was not convinced. "But she is correct." He looked at Optimus who was also amused as he listened. "Saywa wasn't going to let my processor rest until I agreed to bring her here."
"I believe it would be the right thing. There is no need to leave her alone now." Optimus glanced over his shoulder to see Bumblebee running with Salvador sitting on the scout's shoulders. "I see your eldest is very energetic." He looked at Primal who nodded in agreement. "I presume you were like that once."
Primal grimaced and nodded. "Yeah…he's a little too much like me. I was hoping he would have more of Saywa's personality when he was born. But he is more me, which is not bad. But Saywa and I haven't had too many nights where we can rest through the whole night. It was worse when he was smaller, and he was a little too clingy at the time."
"But he just wanted to be held all the time. I miss when he was small and I could hold him…but now he's just a big toddler right now." Saywa shrugged and looked at Saphira. "You will probably find the same too. I am unsure how different autobots and maximals are to each other. I only know they aren't from the same planet, but it will be intriguing."
"I agree." Saphira hummed softly and was curious. "So…is he fully maximal? Or does he have flesh at all? And I am surprised he has metal over his body."
"Salvador has a huge appetite. Believe it or not, I breastfed him for longer than I probably should have." Saphira smiled as she was glad to hear that, even though she could imagine it being uncomfortable when the sparkling got bigger. "Salvador's anatomy is…complex…" Saywa looked at Primal with a raised eyebrow. "You said he still has his metal protoform skeleton though, and his system is kind of a mix between yours and mine."
Primal nodded affirmatively. "Correct. Salvador's system is quite similar to both of us. He needs to ingest food to survive, and he did wear a diaper for a long time." Optimus grimaced immediately as he knew what clothing that was. "It has been new for me. However, I love that sparkling. His armor was something I made."
"How?" Saphira was very intrigued by this. "It still looks organic like yours, so it is interesting."
"It is…hard to explain…" Primal intakes heavily as he thought of how to explain it to her. "Usually, a sparkling formed within a maximal gets their armor formed within the gestational chamber. As a human body cannot form that…I had to donate some of my parts to form his." Saphira wondered how he did that, and Saywa chuckled a little. "You would need to see it to understand. But your sparkling might be different, so it might not apply to your future sparklings."
"But it will be something I might like to hear for myself if needed in the future," Optimus said thoughtfully as it intrigued him as well. "Just as I want to know how you spark bonded with Saywa in order to give her the long life she now lives, and the strength to have a sparkling."
Saywa chuckled again and looked at Saphira. "I think we can leave our Optimus's to that conversation. What do you think?" Saphira was surprised and nodded. "Good. I need to sit down anyway." Saphira chuckled as she understood. "We should see if the villagers have anything to spare while we sit and talk."
"You really want to do that?" Saphira asked in surprise.
Saywa nodded. "Yes. I haven't had any human friends for such a long time. The tribe I'm from tried to sacrifice me because of my eye and skin color, and I was almost kidnapped by sailors from England, I believe, some years after that. So I haven't really had any human friends since then. Not since Primal saved my life multiple times."
Saphira was surprised to hear that. That was something she could definitely relate to, even if the situation for Saywa was different. "That sounds…sort of similar to my experience…Optimus saved me more than once too…"
Saywa was amused by her response. "Hmm…fascinating…" She gently grabbed Saphira's arm to head back up the hill. "Let's head back." Primal stood up and gently lowered his hand to her, and Saywa frowned at him. "Thanks, Primal, but I am perfectly capable of walking up this hill. It isn't that steep."
Primal did not argue as he relaxed his arm. "As you wish."
Saphira was definitely intrigued by Saywa. She didn't think she was going to ever meet Primal's sparkmate or their eldest sparkling. But she was glad that she would get to meet them. She already liked Saywa, and it seemed that Saywa liked her already. It felt like that they just clicked and it was easy to talk to each other. That was something Saphira has never really had. She knew it was probably because of the autobots nad maximals, but it was nice to speak to someone who was very nice.
She did know that Saywa had a heap of questions, and Saphira also had a lot of questions for her. Saphira did wonder what Primal would tell Optimus when it came to the spark bond though. She knew it was an important detail that Optimus could not miss when they would get to spark bond. She knew it might be a while before they would get to spark bond, and she was okay with that. But she was still very excited. Being able to spend many lifetimes with Optimus felt surreal.
