Kara had just finished getting ready for work when her buzzed and she grinned when she saw that while it was an unknown contact, the number was familiar. In fact, the only reason it was an unknown contact was because in this reality, she hadn't met the caller yet.
However, she didn't let that stop her from answering the phone with a grin on her face.
"I was wondering when I'd get your call." Kara said.
"Sorry it took me so long, but I needed some time to get things together. Any chance you can stop by my office on your way to work and yes I mean the office I had after I became a PI. I'll explain everything when you get here." J'onn said.
"Actually, I think I might just take one of my personal days, since I don't think I've taken one since I started at Catco. I think that today is one of those days I'll be needing it." Kara said.
"See you soon." J'onn said as Kara hung up before taking a deep breath to call Cat.
Luckily it had not been too hard for Kara to convince Cat to let her take a personal day, since she'd been ahead of everyone else at work, so it would allow the rest of the reporters to catch up with her.
Anyways, that was why Kara was now flying towards J'onn's office while wondering why he was a PI instead of running the DEO like he had been at this point in time in the old reality. Of course it was possible that in this reality the DEO didn't exist but still, something seemed off about everything. But, she guessed she'd find out everything when she got there.
Speaking of, Kara smiled as she began her landing and saw J'onn standing outside the office waiting for her.
"J'onn." Kara said happily as she hugged her old friend.
"It is so good to see you alive and well in this new world." J'onn said.
"Yeah, I'm still getting used to it, considering how different things seem to be on this earth. Including the fact that you're a PI and not the head of the DEO right now." Kara said and J'onn chuckled.
"That is a long story that I will explain once we're inside. Especially since there's someone else who wants to see you first." J'onn said, much to Kara's confusion as J'onn led her inside, only for her confusion to disappear when she saw who was waiting for her.
"Brainy." Kara said with a smile as she rushed forward to hug the Coluan.
"Hello Kara, it is good to see you again." Brainy said with a smile as he hugged her back.
"What are you doing here and I don't just mean in this building, I mean in this time period? I thought you'd still be in the 31st century, since I thought that you'd still be a part of the legion since didn't your cousin die in the Blight, since we haven't stopped the worldkillers yet?" Kara asked.
"Except for the fact that in the future, you did defeat the worldkillers, including Pestilence before she became the Blight and don't ask me how because it's one of the few things I don't know due to the loss of information between the two points in time, all I know is that the Blight never happened in my time, though sadly my evil cousin is still alive and he's still created his AI plague." Brainy said.
"So you came here to save yourself." Kara said and Brainy nodded.
"Yes, though my welcome was not as warm in this reality as it was in the old one." Brainy said.
"Meaning?" Kara asked.
"Well, he tried to take my head off when I found him before I restored his memories of the old reality, so that should tell you something." J'onn said dryly.
"In my defense, you did look exactly like the man who imprisoned me in a blacksite and ran painful experiments on me when I arrived in this time period." Brainy said.
"The real Hank Henshaw then, so it's before Jeremiah disappeared." Kara said and Brainy nodded.
"Yes, my welcome to this time period was quite painful. I was kept in stasis until J'onn found me this morning, woke me up then after he subdued me, he reminded me that he was not the same monster who for some reason was put in charge of the DEO." Brainy said.
"Speaking of which, why aren't you in charge of the DEO anymore?" Kara asked J'onn.
"Because in this reality, I revealed my identity to the president about a year ago and in exchange for a pardon and amnesty, since she agreed that appointing Henshaw was a mistake, but anyways, in exchange for avoiding a prison cell, I had to retire from the DEO to preserve integrity, so Alex is now the director of the DEO. In order to still protect people, I became a PI." J'onn said.
"I am curious, why did you not seek me out sooner?" Brainy asked.
"Because until today, I didn't realize how significant you were. I'm sorry Brainy, I should've released you sooner." J'onn said.
"Have you restored anyone else's memories?" Kara asked.
"Only Alex's, since she needed to know why Brainy was going to be working for her again and I'm going to be restoring Nia and Kelly's memories before I leave the city to do the same for the rest of our allies. Especially since you probably won't be seeing me for a while, even after that." J'onn said.
"Why?" Kara asked.
"Because first I'm going to find M'gann on this world and then she and I are going to Mars so that she can start the resistance against the current regime and more importantly, so I can find my father, since I know he's still alive in this reality and I'm going to save him so I can get more time with him before he passes on and not just me." J'onn said.
"Malefic." Kara said and J'onn nodded.
"Brainy has already promised to work on a way to scan the phantom zone for Malefic's coordinates so that we can release him, since I get the feeling that he's still in the Phantom Zone right now." J'onn said and Kara nodded.
"So, I'm assuming there's another reason you wanted me to meet you here?" Kara asked and J'onn and Brainy exchanged grins as J'onn placed his hand on the far wall of his office, revealing a hidden elevator.
"Is that a secret elevator?" Kara asked, stunned, wondering if that meant what she thought that meant.
"Come on, we'll show you where it goes." J'onn said as they and Brainy got in the elevator.
