Chapter two: A rough first day in Al-kufir

"You might think the people here are just demons, but alot of them are just good people and they're my friends, so none of that slayer, good guy supremacy shit ok, in Al'Kufir we are all equal, understand me blondie?" Faith gave her a thumbs up and Buffy eagerly returned it with a sticky out tongue as they made their way into town which lay in the middle of the enormous crescent rock formation. it looked like an alien western setting, they even had weird creatures and little robots slithering and zipping around the place at high speeds. the town was begining to wake up so it must of been early in the morning Buffy surmised as they both slinked through some back streets and Faith led the way eagerly towards the centre of her home new home town.

"So B, on the left side of main street in ascending order we got 'Bully's Boutique' where you can purchase all your clothing needs from ball gowns to battle harnesses. and then ya got 'Ricardos Outfittery' but thats for the guys ya know, but hell sometimes they got cooler gunbelts or boots so, it' usually a potluck on what's bad or good day for day. then ya got a food store for sundries and such and as ya can see its right next to Moriartys saloon which is where we're going" Faith quickly grabbed Buffy by the hand and guided her towards the Saloon and turned on her heel so she can look over the other side of the street.
"On the right side you can see we got the 'Sugar boy' that's a candy store and B, they got some good damn confectionaries on sale, Bobby always hooks me up with his wifes latest concoctions" Faith was beaming as she was still holding onto Buffys hand that she didn't realise when Buffy gripped it tighter. "we got the bank which is well managed so we can happily store cash we have earned there if we really wanted and over yonder at the far end is the magic stores where my friend i told you about conducts all her buisness. when we get you some clothes and weapons she's the lady we get to enchant them, gives us an edge in combat... also makes you realise how crappy the council is back home". Faith turned back to face her and quickly realised that Buffy was lost in her eyes and holding her hands really tight.
"You really like it here don't you... i've never seen you this, happy" Buffy admitted but Faith decided to brush the comment off by saying "It's a nice place, alot nicer than Sunnydale B... so yh i got used to it after i couldn't find a way back ya know". Faith motioned to Buffy to let her hand go free and she obliged reluctantly. "Let's go finish your bounty registration and hopefully by then the whole crew will roll in and we can discuss the plan to catch 'Ballpin McCreedy'. dudes a cannibal and a baby killer so, we're gonna need to deal with that idiot quickly before he causes anymore mayhem like he has through seven of the frontier mining towns up north" Faith motioned to Buffy to follow her up the steps of the salloon and she did so immediately whilst being disgusted that she may have to touch a baby killer. But she was happy to best the life outta him if she was allowed to, 'icould beat him anyway and drag him through the wringer for a good long while' she thought to herself.
"So you're still an ass kickin Slayer even in a whole other dimension" Buffy smiled at her and Faith tipped her hat down as she opened the saloon doors for the girl, she was also trying to hide quite a deep blush that had formed from Buffys unexpected praise. Buffy realised the moment she entered how truly out of place she was as demons of all shapes and sizes were dressed in western/alien attire. the barman was a robot snake with 7 heads and each one had a top had that pumped out steam and different silver and gold monocles on each snakes right eyes. even the few whores she spied went from a mix of humanoid lizard and pig demons to fish mixes and even one that looked really human until she saw the girl detach her jaw and devour a large rodent for what must of been her breakfast.
Faith tapped Buffy on the shoulder and whispered in her ear, "Don't worry B, you'll get used to it after a week or two... now get over here, we gotta talk to the desk clerk and our boss about your registration". Buffy nodded as Faith playfully picked her jaw up from the floor and coaxed her over to the east side of the saloon to greet the boss/desk clerk.
"Hey Jean, this is the other Slayer i was tellin ya about" Faith spoke in a deep commanding tone she had never heard the girl use before, Buffy thought it must of been something she learned here when she had to deal with people and be taken seriously. Buffy had suddenly heard a calliope of sounds crash behind the darkened glass as the lights turned on and a bunch of blinds suddenly opened upwards to reveal a short half mechanical pig man. Buffy almost jumped out of her skin as the little robot pig demon opened up a glass window and sprung out from behind the desk to greet both Slayers eagerly.
"Faith my dear, best bounty hunter in all the nine reaches is this the girl you were telling me about yesterday!" he oinked after he finished speaking and also some places in the middle but Buffy just stood in place with a furrowed brow as she listened to the conversation unfold. "Yh Jean, i filled out her details and as i promised ya, girls stronger than me, doing the job alot longer too" Faith didn't lie too much and was blunt and to the point, this place had definetly changed her for the better Buffy thought to herself quietly. "Well, well well, Ms Buffy was it, i hear from my finest hunter that you are a 'slayer of demons' much like she is back home, all chosen and what not" Jean the pig demon spoke more to the half empty room rather then her. the very few patrons and workers who were eavesdropping were receiving the hint that a new bounty hunter was going to be living here in town with them and it would be good to show some good old fashioned hospitality and respect.
"That's what they say, saved the world 4 times as well" Buffy said cockily as Faith just rolled her eyes and planted her hand in her face and sighed. Jean chuckled heartilly at the admission of skill and pride with which the small blonde carried herself with. "Oh i like the bravado, that is a good sign!" the swineular fellow took the documents from Faith and jumped back hastily behind the counter and began rummaging around frantically before he placed himself down in his high wooden stool and layed down a new pen and ink well in order to begin his work. Buffy had hardly even noticed his metal eye had suddenly popped out to zoom into and inspect the documents at lightning speed.
Both slayers moved closer towards the desk and Jeans face shot up as he was already halfway through the documents when he said "Ms summers you seemed to have left out you're relationship status and or intent to pursue any possible romantic interests, much like miss Lehane here... is this some human custom or do you derive from one of these asexually reproducing species i have heard so much about?" Buffy was taken aback at the question fired her way out of nowhere nearly as much as she was at the fact Faith seemed to prefer her privacy about such things. "I am umm... well.." Buffy seemed to have trouble finding words and Faith cut in and answered for her. "She in Single and not looking to pursue a relationship with anyone here, like i also am not" Faith seemed to be a bit annoyed at Jeans intrusive question and the pig demon picked up on it with suprising speed and apologised quickly.
"I'm not asexual Jean... i actually like..." Faith quickly placed her hand over Buffys mouth and gave her a look which told her to shut up. "B, he only wants to know so he can give the brothel mistress a heads up and she can try and sell you a girl or guy for the night... Jean here is a buisness man afterall" Faith removed her hand as Buffy went "oh, that makes sense" and Jean clapped with joy. "Oh, i was so close to aquiring some information this time Faith, Miss Summers you may want to join our little betting pool we have going round if it interests you" Jeans tone of voice was jovial as he extended a piece of paper towards her and she began to read it with a shocked face.
"You're betting on what you think Faiths sexuality is? and you have over 400 patrons in the betting pool!!" Buffys face was plastered with shock as she looked over to Faith who was obviously enraged over the concept but didn't want to start any problems with the people in town by losing her temper. "Yes well you see, the girl never visits our brothel and never goes home with anyone, she's been here over a year and it has become quite the mystery among our small town" Jean took back the piece of long paper as Buffy handed it back to him and decided to say something about it. this kind of behavior was intrusive and not called for and jt was none of their damn buisness what her or Faith were into sexually in the slightest.
"It's abit rude don't ya think, why don't you just ask her rather than set up some eleborate betting system?" Buffy asked and Faith flipped Jean the finger and answered for him. "Cause the last guy that asked got a skull full of led didn't he Jean" Faith gave him a cold look as he confirmed what she said to be true, "Well Miss Lehane, you were rather lucky he turned out to be on the bounty board, the local sheriff would of had to pay you a visit" Jean squealed as he continued looking through Buffys paperwork and after a few moments he handed the young girl a licence with her information on it and told her not to lose it as it would act as her ID in this dimension and a few others as well if she ever travelled to them for work related reasons. "Faith'll teach ya everything else, she's trained a few new hunters so yer in good hands". Jean handed everything she needed to Faith and dissapeared back into the back room.
Faith said goodbye to Jean who was long gone as she led Buffy over to the bounty board and showed the golden haired Slayer the face of their target, a slender looking lizard demon with a head full of pointy spikes but dressed up like some western bellboy... he had a 'creepy' vibe about himself and not all of his sharp teeth looked right either. a few were missing and he had a deep scar up the left side of his face but the name had changed on the picture as if by magic. "Shit, guess he's been using an Alias, system must of updated since now he's going by Sidd Lonnie" Faith was pissed and she kicked a nearby stool into the wool and it shattered into a million pieces. the saloon staff just ignored her and the barmen told her that it would come out of her next bounty. which unsuprisingly annoyed Faith even more but she managed to calm herself down when she noticed the bounty had also magically increased by atleast 20 percent.
"Faith is 40.000 Rupees alot?" Buffy asked with a confused look on her face. "Yeah here it is, not so much in india..." Faith chuckled at her own joke but realised Buffy didn't get it since she probably didn't even know what rupees were. Faith sighed and handed her some multi colored stones and told her to "get us two Nuka Colas from the bar, i don't care which flavor as they're all good" and Buffy did just that. she was feeling particularly parched and a cool sounding name and Faiths seal of approval really sold her on the idea of trying another dimensions cola.
It was then as she walked up to the bar and ordered a cherry nuka cola and a orange sunset cola that the bounty Faith was searching for walked into the bar and sat down right next to her. she handed the robot bartender the stones and he placed a random assortment of smaller different colored stones back down on the bar and continued on with his work. she picked up the stones and inspected them closer and they were just that 'stones' of different colors and cut to a varying degree of shapes she wasn't used to seeing money molded into. she picked them up and then noticed a familiar face sitting next to her and she had to do a double take, her brow furrowed and she could not believe her luck.
Buffy looked him over without trying to be too obvious and noticed the scar on the left side of the lizard mans face and his missing lizard demon teeth... they were all in the exact same position as in the bounty poster. 'No way did this idiot just walk straight into the saloon which housed a bounty office, what a dumbass!' Buffy internally cheered at her insane luck as she took off her metal studded jean belt and wrapped it around her knuckles as a make shift knuckle duster since his skin looked like sandpaper and she didn't fancy punching it directly. she had similar problems with lizard and fish demons before and cleaning the cuts from repeatedly beating their hard and sharp sandpaper like skin was not her favourite thing to do.
She looked eagerly over to Faith who was now speaking to the tall barbarian looking woman and a tall muscular green rhino demon from yesterday and back to the bounty sitting right next to her. before she looked back at the mark she had quickly scanned the photo from afar just to make doubly sure it was him and the idiot even had the same clothes on and everything. "Man, todays gonna be a great day" Buffy joyfully sang to herself as she quickly turned on her heel and absoloutly slammed her studded fist into the lizards face and he hit the deck like a heavy sack of spuds. Buffy called over to Faith but she was already next to her as she was assesing the situation with her 1911 trained on the demons skull and laughed as she realised Buffy had just decked their target into unconciousness after the dumbass had walked into the wrong fucking saloon.
"Sidd Lonnie you dumb son bitch... you delivered yourself on a silver platter!" Faith shouted for her team from across the bar to the barbarian and Rhino she called Sina and funnily enough 'Rhino' rushed to her side and couldn't believe what they had just seen. "Did that scrawnie Blonde just deck a blinzka-tile?" the barbarian with corn rows looked shocked as the 'scrawny blonde' turned to Faith and handed her an open cherry nuka cola and cutely saying "You're welcome" and taking a sip of her orange sunset nuka cola. her eyes shot open as she felt flooded with flavours she had never experienced before "Damn Faith... you were not joking when you said all these flavours were good" she took a small sip of Faiths drink and squealed with excitment as therich cherry flavor entered her mouth.
"Oh damn it, here's ya change" Buffy cheerily handed the rupees back to her and she put them in a large leather pouch and closed it back up before taking a pair of handcuffs out of her jacket and cuffing the bounty before lifting him up above her head and walking her over to Jean who was cheering Buffys name as Faith cashed him in. "Buffys first fucking catch walked into a god damn bounty office, so i take it you really are the girl Faith was telling us about, kinda always thought you'd be bigger and i dunno scarier" Rhino joked as he took her hand and shook it, Buffy returned the gesture. "Thanks, people are always shocked when i'm so cute and cuddly... they never see that good old knockout coming" Buffy grinned ear to ear but as charmed as the muscular Rhino was, Sina wasn't impressed as she reminded him faith had choked her out yesterday pretty easily and that made Buffy like her a whole lot more. she always did like honest people.
"So you guys must be the other bounty hunters Faith works with, I'm Buffy, the Vampire slayer" she extended her hand to Sina who was a 7ft barbarian who made everyone in the bar look tiny except for Rhino himself who was wrippling with muscle through his large dirt soiled cream vest and baggy leather pants drowning his combat boots. "Yeah, we are and what's it to you?" Sina growled like an animal, low and deep as Buffy put down her drink at the bar and looked her up and down like a piece of meat. "You sure about this... Sina was it?" Buffy was small but Sina could feel it in the back of her slull that she was nothing to mess with as her instincts told her to back off and so she listened to them and stepped back slowly. Faith had been eyeing the entire situation between the two as Jean cashed her out with a sack of rupees that looked impractically heavy.
"You worried about something Faith?" Jeans interest was piqued but she replied with a simple "yeah, Sina has no idea how fucked she's gonna be if she throws down with Buffy Jean, Girl makes me look like a happy little puppy" and Faith gave the pig demon Bounty clerk a look that made him gulp and realise she wasn't playing around, no she was serious and meant every word of what she just said. Jean looked over towards Buffy as Sina backed off and couldn't believe how such a shiny looking tiny girl could be so fear inducing to those around her. "She uh... she's not going to be any trouble is she Faith? i have a buisness to think about of course" he snorted nervously as his hand jittered reflexively in fear he tried to hide. "Just make sure you warn the right people not to mess with her, she's got a shorter fuse than i have... like the time she..." Faith paused on purpose for affect. "ya know what, don't worry about it, see ya tommorow boss man" and before the pig demon could protest and call her back he was swarmed by a group of hunters looking for info on their own marks.
Faith carried the large Rupee sack over to the gang with ease as they were still standing at the bar but now talking quietly with Rhino in between the ladies in some attempt to maybe stop a fight from breaking out. Buffy was of course sitting on a barstool and dangling her legs off it like a little hyperactive kid which seemed to annoy Sina even further, in fact every sip she took of her nuka cola seemed to tighten her inner coils a little too tightly. she was going to have to talk to Sina in private if that continued, The barbarian was strong but she wasn't Buffy strong and she liked Sina too much to throw her to the wolves like that. she was a great fighter and tough as nail, crazier than a banshee but Buffy was way above her capability to handle in any meaningful way.
Faith slammed down the Rupee sack on the bar between Buffy and Rhino, "Well gang, drinks are on the newest member since that jackass bounty walked into her adorable little fist" Faith cheered and Rhino joined her but Sina remained quiet. "Hey! what do ya mean 'Little' i got those iron mike mitts dummy!" Buffy giddly tried to convince Faith by showing her but she just chuckled and moved her hand away gently, Sina noticed how long she held her hand on Buffys before letting her fist go free. Faith let her gaze hang abit longer than usual on Buffys beautiful emerald eyes before turning to the others and telling them to order their favorite drinks as she divvied up the cash from the catch. "Hey B, order a mint nuka... it makes your lips tingle something pleasent" Faith gave the girl an outwardly flirty tone which anyone could see from a mile away but Buffy just seemed excited afterall she had really enjoyed the Orange sunset flavor, surely the mint would be just as good if not better. she called over the bartender and she ordered with a happy grin across her face which Faith couldn't help but think was unbearably cute in the best of ways.
Faith let out a slight chuckle that was noticed by the others but they pretended like they didn't notice anything as she sat on the right side of Buffy and started counting the share of 10k each as Rhino thanked Buffy for the easiest catch he never had to work for as they clinked there new drinks together and toasted to a 'fine next catch' as Buffy swigged the nuka cola and her eyes shot open wide. "God damn that's good, Faith try it" Buffy forced the drink towards Faiths annoyed face but the girls beaming smile began to melt her hard exterior. "B, i've drunk hundreds of em, you don't need to force another one down my throat" but the blonde slayer was adamant. "aw c'mon just try it for me, i wanna see your reaction dumbass" Faith could see the other two bounty hunters were shocked at how Buffy was speaking to Faith but Faith didn't exactly help as she allowed Buffy to feed her the drink and even made a slight show of it for her.
Faith caught the shocked look of her two friends as Buffy asked her "so what'dya think? delicious right?" and Faith Buckled when Buffy gave her that patented cute beaming Summers smile. "Yh, it's great just don't drink to much or you'll get a stomach ache" and she quickly went back to counting her Rupees into three seperate bags, trying desperately not to catch the quizzical, questioning eyes of her two best friends. Buffy on the other hand was having the time of her life as she was talking to Rhino about what the team did from day to day for work and fun. Rhino was more than happy to oblige her every whim and had managed to make quite a few things clear for her.
Rhino told her that they were basically sitting on planet located in an interdimensional deadzone and that he had been living her for five years himself and that Sina was actually a local born here right in Al-kufir, they had all met eachother a little over a year ago after Faith had to fight her way through a group of rather deadly slave traders who picked a fight with the wrong super powered honey. Buffy asked him even more questions and he answered the best he could, atleast the things he could understand anyway as Buffy had a tendency to use to much earth slang and he had no idea how to interpret her meaning. But he was happy to try and help Buffy none the less which was just a part of the green demons character it seemed.
"Sina and i were with a bigger group and had only known eachother about a month before we got ambushed and well Faith kind of tumbled out of a blue portal looking a lot smaller and worse for wear in some black leather clothes and took her anger out on the slave traders..." Rhino took a sip of his dark black drink and continued on. "After she saved us we kinda just showed her the ropes and we've been bounty hunting together ever since, she isn't very social though and doesn't talk alot but... she's one of us ya know" Rhino smiled a toothy grin as he whispered the last part a little too loud to make sure Faith heard him but she continued on counting as if she didn't. Buffy was more shocked that Faith wasn't social and kept to herself, that was not the Faith she remembered but then again, maybe she was just being smart and safe here by not getting into the same kind of trouble like she used to back home.
Sina remained silent as she watched how Rhino interacted with the annoyingly small blonde woman whose lips she thought were 'too pink' and her muscles were also 'non existant'. Rhino on the other hand was enjoying talking to this strange little girl who had just given him a massive payday without any real work needed as it most certainly usually would. "Oh, little golden haired one, are you going to place a bet on Faiths orientation, the pool is up to 24k and i feel like you might have the inside scoop" Rhino asked politely but Buffy obviously didn't really like the question as her face turned sharper at the question and he could tell so he hastily apologized and let it go. he instead began asking her questions about what her home of earth was like as Faith rarely said anything about it other than its a 'shithole for retards' and 'the only good thing there is the smokes'. Buffy gave Faith a knowing look which she ignored as the first two bags were now filled and she moved onto the next one.
Twenty odd minutes passed as Buffy explained her job in Sunnydale of protecting the world from demons and vampires, some great cultural holidays and how she had some amazing friends who helped her fight evil, Rhino loved hearing about the apocalypses she averted as the Saloon slowly started to fill up as the town was slowly starting to burst to life before the slayers eyes. Faith had finally finished sorting out the Rupees and was just doodling some quick calculations on a notepad as Sina began to grow bored with listening to the blonde one talk and decided to take her drink in hand and talk alone to Faith.
Sina was the first to collect her pay and she pulled Faith to the side for a private conversation far from Buffy and Rhino who were talking about what they would spend their own pay on and Rhino had to teach her what every denomination of rupee meant so she wouldn't get swindled. Sina on the other hand looked pissed and Faith had no idea why, "This is the girl you begged me to rush a citizenship card for? some child who just happens to be super strong?" Sina was seething with rage as she bit down hard on her teeth and Faith could hear the cracking in her teeth and decided to try and calm her down somehow if she could. it wasn't unknown for Sina to dislike new people but this one wasn't expected by Faith, not even a little bit.
"Sina... what's the problem? she just landed us a 10k payday each? she's as strong as i am and will be a great asset to the team..." Faith tried explaining the pros would far outweigh any cons But Sina for some reason wasn't having it. "It must be a human thing feeding each other in public, where i come from that is a private act among deeply romantic lovers..." Sina stepped closer and sniffed her quickly all over. "She's all over you isn't she..." Sina then stepped back quickly as Faith squared up to her with a cold dead eyed stare. She had realized quickly how far over Faiths boundaries she had over-stepped and how doing so didn't lead anywhere good for herself.
"I will make this clear just once Sina, you might be my best friend but if even a single hair on her pretty little head gets misplaced because you decided to do something stupid... just because i insulted your culture in some way..." Faith leaned in closer to the barbarian who was looking down on her with fear in her eyes. "You won't have a culture left to be insulted on behalf of!" Faith almost spat the last part but she didn't need to as Sina got the message crystal clear on all frequencies. The barbarian took note that any action taken against the small blonde one would incur her dear friends instant and immediate wrath.
Sina tried to bravely stand her ground she knew full well what the Dark Slayer was capable of and wasn't stupid enough to try anything. Faith on the other hand felt as if she wasn't clear enough. "Sina we need to work together if we are to be successful, Buffy is literally the best damn person for the job and you are going to have to learn to get along with her because i will not betray her for anyone, do i make myself crystal clear?" Faith calmed her tone down a bit as not to scare the barbarian into submission but to just get her point across strongly and with enough force that she doesn't get any stupid ideas in her thickened skull.
"I understand Faith, we will speak no more of this today" and with that Sina exited the Saloon and went about her day. Faith on the other hand took a moment to catch her breath and sigh deeply before returning to Buffy and Rhino who were talking about weapons. Faith noticed that Buffy had another flavor of Nuka cola and she knew that soon she would have to cut Buffy off if she didn't want the girl to suffer from a sugar rush and a stomach ache when they got home. Buffy always did have quite a sweet tooth Faith remembered and she didn't want to have to make a trip to the local Apotheke in order to fix her tummy for over doing it.
Rhino was the first to ask where Sina was and Faith lied and told him they had the day off as she had to run a bunch of errands as did she and Buffy, the latter of which was actually true. Buffy on the other hand knew Faith was lying but decided not to push the subject as she knew Faith would mention it to her in private later if it was anything bad. instead Faith told Rhino they would meet here again at mid day tommorow so they could plan another job and he should take the day to take care of anything he had been putting off. Rhino said goodbye to both girls as they exited the Saloon and Buffy even shouted goodbye to Jean over all the commotion and he hastily waved back and returned to his work with lightning speed and ruthless attention to detail.

Faith had spent the good portion of the day helping Buffy fit in to some more western cowboy style clothes and had to remind her that fashion wasn't anywhere near as important as function in this world to which Buffy responded with "But i want to look cute while i kick demon butt" and Faith found it really hard to argue with that type of logic. once Buffy had atleast 4 sets of clothes and they were most certainly all practical and stylish, Faith picked two leather satchels and a set of weapon belts for a gun and a melee weapon and moved them to the counter to pay for everything. she had to remind her several times that looking 'cute' here would get her in more trouble than it was worth and she was already a total snack in the pradtical clothes which had made her blush quite a bit and do exactly as she was told. 'turns out flattery does get you everywhere' Faith mused to herself.
The large humanoid snake demon who went by the name 'Bully' was going over the clothes and making sure everything was in order when Buffy brought over a handful of different length and sized ribbons, Faith eyed them but decided to keep quiet as Bully the kobra demon decided to gift the ribbons to Buffy as word had spread fast that she had caught the baby killer bounty. Buffy said she would happily pay for them but Bully was having none of it, "he liked eating snake eggs little one, believe me when i say this, i should be giving you all of these clothes for free but i do have a buisness to run" Bully hissed every other word and Buffy thought she kind of seemed like a disney villain but nice enough none the less. "I hear from Ricardo that Faith here... found you popping out of a portal in the wastes" Bully hissed in hushed tones as everything was finally wrapped up and pushed towards the girls.
Faith was begining to make a habit of rolling her eyes before interrupting or answering people back since Buffy arrived. "Bully...C'mon does everyone have discuss my personal affairs like i'm some sort of mystery women from the deepest depths of a novella?" Faith took hold of the wrapped up clothes in brown paper and motioned for Buffy to take the rest. "Personal affairs darling? it's strange enough that someone as chosen as you came here and now there are two of you" Bully began to tally up her Rupess as she continued to speak. "you must be forgetting that this is a backwater town, everyone's gonna be fang deep in your buisness whether you like it or not" Bully let out an oddly endearing hiss/laugh as Faith just waved her off and moved towards the shops entrance.
"Thank you miss Bully, hope you get alot more clients today" Buffy chirped as she bounded towards the entrance which Faith was holding open for her like an overly annoyed gentleman. the last thing she heard was Bully saying "Don't be a stranger now little golden girl!" as Faith closed the door behind them and they stepped back on to main street which was now Bustling with busy demons and humanoid mixes going about their daily buisness. Faith was just happy to be out of there, but Buffy was enjoying herself like a kid in a candy shop as all the new sights seemed to her like a grand adventure. Faith patiently told her to 'hurry up' as they entered Ricardos outfittery and she held the door open for the ditzy blonde once again.
"The next stop is the armory and then the enchanters ok, we need everything magically enhanced to protect you better in this crazy enviroment" Faith said so matter of fact that Buffy refused to question her on it, she was also somewhat overwhelmed as she entered the well equipped armory. here was where Buffy was told to pick out a gun and a melee weaoon they would later magically enhance. Buffy eyed the axes and hammers until she spotted an abnormally long machete that was thicker and longer than any she had ever seen before and had decided she would take it over every other blades or striking weapons she could see. the blade was of some shiny dark blue metal she had never seen before and the blades handle was made of a very sturdy dark green wood she had also never seen before.
She asked Faith what she thought as the dark haired Slayer handed her a c39 Mauser german pistol she really liked the look of and after a moments deliberation between the two of them they were exiting the armory with Buffys brand new weapons in hand. Ricardo who was a strange sack man who's sack skin moved oddly under his western style outfit had found a beautiful leather sheath for the Machete and assured Faith the blade was made out of a rare metal called 'Vibrani' which made it unnaturally tough and sharper than anything else he had in stock. "Then why are you selling it for 500?" Faith questioned him with a strong look and he replied with something she didn't expect at all. "because it's last owner thought the thing was 'cursed' and people in this town know that sooo... even though the blade is magically untouched, still not good for buisness with the supersticous folk round here". Faith just accepted what he said and decided to trust him since she never had any problems with his gear before.
Faith handed over a 1200 rupees and said her goodbyes to Ricardo and Buffy waved goodbye also, she was freaked out when she shook his sack hand and could feel a myriad of things wriggling underneath, but she managed to keep her cool and pretend she hadn't noticed the strange occurence. Both Slayers exited the shop and Faith stood on the side of the road and pointed over yonder to an out of the way shop that was covered in weird cloths and looked way to magical and oddly middle eastern or indian to be in a cowboy town. "Now were going to the enchanters B, she'll turn all of this stuff into your most prized possessions" Faith proudly told the blonde slayer as they marched down mainstreet towards the enchanters store dodging the crowd and some creepy demon horses as they pushed on.

Inside the Enchanters was strange as it seemed to be more like a fortune tellers tent than a place of buisness and there was odd smelling insence being burnt that Buffy was definetly not a fan of as it reeked of something similar to sandalwood and rusty metal, they're may of been hints of Jasmine but she couldn't tell for the life of her. A small robed figure walked out from behind a curtain and greeted Faith with great reverence, she was draped in blacks and blues covered in what were probably ancient symbols or magical spells. Buffy was then greeted warmly and asked to place her items down on the table as they would soon discuss buisness. the small robed figures voice sounded oddly young and femimine as she spoke, it threw Buffy for a loop as the small enchantress began talking to Faith.
"Oh, my sweet angel i have heard about everything which has transpired of late, i assume this small lady is the reason the town has been restless as of yesterday morning" the enchantress motioned to Buffy under her robe and then returned her hand or what Buffy hoped was a hand back out of sight. "Yes Ruby, she... well, she is who i told you about" and this piqued Buffys interest, 'had Faith told people about me before she came through that portal?' she was perplexed as to why Faith would of told anyone about her as when they were in the Saloon she was under the assumption that Faith was a loner and kept to herself. she had only also assumed that the only reason Rhino and Sina knew about her was because they were with her yesterday at the portal when she had arrived.
Faiths jaw tightened as she responded "we may have a few other things to discuss in private at a later date, if you don't mind, but right now she's here and just nabbed her first bounty and let me tell you it was a very strange set of events which unfolded" Faith was about to tell Ruby what had transpired when she laughed and responded with. "yeah Ezekiel told me the idiot couldn't read and walked right into the Saloon where she clocked him and collected the bounty" Ruby was giddy at the idea that a criminal could be so stupid as Faith sighed. "Yeah, it was pretty stupid but i just hope and pray she knows the next mark won't be nowhere near as simple" Faith looked over to Buffy and the girl just smiled back and gave her a wink as if to say 'yh, we'll see'. and that caused Faith to roll her eyes knowingly and palm her face.
Ruby moved her robed face towards the smaller slayer and asked, "So what brings you here today slugger, i assume you need some items of yours enchanted like our dear Faith has here" she began to unwrap the brown paper bags and go over the things she would be working on. "Faith said you could enchant everything to protect me while i'm here and that you were the best" Buffy handed her the new gun and machete also and she eagerly accepted it.
Ruby didn't reveal her face but you could definetly tell she enjoyed being praised. "Well she's not wrong since i'm the only enchantress in this dimension anyway, but it is definetly nice to receive praise from such a decorated warrior" Ruby began to chant as she accessed what she could do and how here limitations would be defined. "a decorated warrior?" Buffy asked Faith with a confused and furrowed brow. Faith just responded nonchalantly "Well i've been here over a year B, did some Slaying so ya know how it is... stories get told" and Buffy accepted Faiths answer since she was aware how good at the job Faith was and that she would of never gone into too much detail anyway.
Ruby suddenly stopped chanting and faced Buffy "So the long machete here and its sheath can be enchanted to an ice element and the sheath will be able to repair and sharpen the blade even in the extremly unlikely case it breaks fully, but of course it would take some time to fully repair" Ruby told her as she moved onto the Mauser. "This on the other hand will be able to act much like Faiths and Fire an infinite amount of magical bullets, you will basically be shooting infinite thunderbolts with every depression of the trigger" Ruby was suddenly interrupted by Buffy. "Wait so does that mean when i slice with the machete it will freeze anything it touches? and the gun will fire fully concetrated volleys of electricity? wait so what doss Faiths gun do? is it the same? or doesn't fire other elements... maybe laser beams or something?" Buffy had asked so many questions rapidlythat Faith was suprised that ruby could decioher and answer them all as quickly as she did.
"Yes it will, and yes it is like a thunderstorm in a shot and Faiths 1911 actually fires concentrated beams of magical light silently, she tells me it is a godsend for some of her sneakier capture missions, yours on the other hand will sound like a very loud thunder blast tearing through a silent night sky" Ruby moved the weapons to the side and began inspecting the clothes. "Faith when it comes to her clothes how would you like me to proceed?" and this question confused Buffy, but before she could speak Faith answered as if she had been considering what she said since they had purchased the clothes from Bullys Boutique.
"She will had the same enchantments as me, she doesn't need the instant boosts like so many others ask you for, i want her to grow stronger and faster like me so that even if she is naked in a sandstorm years from now, it'd take a nuke to kill her" Faith responded and silence had set over the room for a long moment. "Are you sure?" Ruby asked her with a worried tone laden in her voice and Faith nodded yes silently. Buffy herself was shocked that Faith was looking out for her so fiercly and making sure she had the best, she wasn't a fan of the sandstorm/nuke analogy though.
"Well Slayer... it seems Faith has decided you deserve the best and it will cost you but i need to make it clear what these enchantments 'do' before you accept the price and the power you are about to slowly receive" Ruby took out a stone tray and placed it on the table they were sitting at in the centre of the room. "7000 rupees is the price" Ruby told her and Faith gave Buffy a look to say 'hand over the money dumbass' which made her do just that. Ruby moved the tray onto the end of the table turned her complete attention towards Buffy. Faith just waited patiently as Ruby explained everything to the smaller slayer.
"From all 4 of these clothes i will enchant each set the exact same, you're boots will make you faster over time and your leather trousers will make you resilient to all magic over time. your dark green armored scale bodace will make your skin tougher from every hit you take and your cowboy hat will increase your healing factor over time as well" Ruby moved on to the gun and weapon belts, ignorning the long skinny leather jacket for the moment. "These belts will actually help you increase your magical and physical aptitude over time, Faith herself has become quite the mage as of late" Ruby told the slayer and she shot a questioning look towards the dark slayer. "You can use magic?" Buffys voice rose in pitch but Faith made it clear that all she could do was shoot elemental balls and make a small light that followed her around for half hour and it completly knocked her for six afterwards.
Buffy decided to believe her as long as she showed her how later and Faith promised she would. Ruby took note of the interaction, "Oh yes the leather jacket will actually give you an increased lifespan which your slayer powers already give you but you'll basically have the longevity of a vampire if you wear it morning till evening every day" Buffy was shocked to learn that her Slayer powers actually kept her younger for longer and that Ruby knew about them. "Ahh leather gloves, these will increase your physical strength over time" Ruby put everything she show cased back down on the table one after the other. "Wait how do you know about my Slayer powers?" and Faith gave Ruby a look and she told Buffy straight.
"You're powers are demonic in nature, your whole line as i told Faith when i first met her was fueled by an ancient and extremly powerful demon who was bound to your line magically some way i'm not really sure on right now" Ruby said it so non chalantly that Buffys jaw had almost dropped to the floor in shock. Faith put a hand on her shoulded as she couldn't believe what she had been told, 'did the watchers council know, of course they did!' Buffy was angry but Faiths understanding hand on her shoulder helped her calm down and try to get over it as if wasn't much of a big deal anyway since what was done is done and there was nothing she could do about it now anyway. "Don't think too deep about it B, aint the first time the watchers have hidden shit from us" she removed her hand slowly after letting it linger there for far too long.
"Any way I want to make this clear, these clothes are now basically training gear, Faith is only twice the strength of you after a year and 2 months of being here, these enchantments are slow to work but permament... they will not add to your growing slayer power, they enhance the human side. do you understand and accept the work i am about to perform for you?" Ruby held out her demonic hand from under the robe and it was a 'Blue' humanoid shape and alot longer thsn she had expected. "It sounds too good to be true, those future bounties are gonna be quakin in their cowboy boots when they get a load of us" Buffy proudly stated as she tried to get over the shocking revelation she had just received. "So yh, magic me up Ruby" and Buffy shook her suprisingly strong hand as her grip almost crushed her hand before she let it go and Buffy found herself having to shake off the sudden pain.
Ruby returned Buffys hand slowly and then turned to Faith at an alarming speed "Oh Faith, i wanted to ask you something before i start on all this". Faith gave her a confused look but oblidged without recompense "Yh, of course Ruby, what do you need..." Ruby handed Faith some large red Rupees, "Since Buffys gonna be waiting for a while could you go to the sugar boy and grab us all a few drinks and something to snack on... i forgot to have breakfast this morning" Ruby asked her sweetly and Faith took the money and quickly stood up. Although before she left she warned Buffy to behave and of course the petite blond promised she would, but whether she actually would was another thing entirely.
Faith was only gone a few seconds before Ruby picked up the ribbons and asked Buffy "What about these?" and Buffy asked something unexpected in return which Ruby was definetly not prepared for. "can you... enchant them to protect someone or connect two peoples fates forever?" Ruby stared at Buffy for way too long that she had began to sweat nervously under her robed gaze.
"You want to protect Faith... now i didn't expect to hear those kind of words escape your lips" Ruby looked over the ribbons with an intense feeling emnating from her. "I was under the illusion that you and my dear friend have quite a complex relationship" the enchantress put the ribbons down and asked Buffy a question this time. "I mean do you even really care about Faith?". the question had shocked Buffy to her very core, because of course she cared about Faith, why would she even ask such a thing? Buffy knew she could be a hard ass sometimes but she really did care about the girl and a hell of alot more than she really should considering what Faith had done to her personally.
Buffy was quite taken aback at the question "That's personal" Buffy answered but Ruby was having none of it. "Answer me, i know everything you have done to that girl slayer and what she did you" Ruby admitted as the lights in the tent started to dim and she started to grow larger. "she is one of us, we won't let you hurt her again!" Ruby growled a deep animalistic growl as she continued to grow larger and the lights around them began flickering violently.
Buffy scooched backwards and sprang to her feet and got herself in a familiar boxing stance. "She's mine, she's isn't one of yours!" Buffy hadn't realised how possesive that sounded and Ruby instantly stopped growing and looked down upon the slayer from atleast two heads above her.
"So, that's how you feel... i can sense those feelings you hide deep inside yourself... how interesting" Ruby instantly shot back down to her usual size and the lights went back to normal. Buffy was still in her boxing stance and wasn't entirely convinced she should lower it. "I wonder if she knows how strongly you feel about her, i doubt it of course" Ruby ignored Buffys defensive stance and looked over the ribbons again. "i can enchant them of course, but it will bind your fates together eternally, you will never be without her again as long as she wears this ribbon and you as well if you wear this other one" Ruby lifted both ribbons one red and the other green.
"She'll never dissapear again... she'll always come back to me no matter what?" Buffy asked in less than a whisper. Ruby heard her though and responded "If that's what you really desire, it will cost an extra 500 but yes, i can connect her to you through this enchantment..." Ruby paused before continuing on. "it will however not change her feelings towards you, it will just connect your lifes paths... that's it, but they may already be connected anyway, although this will just act as insurance" Ruby noticed that Buffy lowered her gaurd and thought about it deeply for a moment.
"I want you to do it, but don't you dare tell her about it, it's something just between us ok" Buffy looked towards Ruby with a solemn face and she nodded and began the enchantments. Faith returned with a small basket full of produce in hand. she noticed Buffys serious look as she put away her Rupee satchel. "yh, Ruby can't make me taller" Buffy lied with a pout painted across her face. Faith chuckled as she put the basket down and handed a cold colored ice drink to the smaller Slayer. "I prefer you shorter you know, really adds to the cute factor" Faith grinned cockily as Buffy snickered in annoyance outwardly. but internally she felt Butterflies flutter as she enjoyed Faiths obvious admission and Ruby had felt her secret internal reactions and she had decided to keep her promise to Buffy.
Unless she had to, Ruby would never mention the ribbons secret enchantments... unless absoloutly needed.
