Here's a Beastars fanfic I forgot to post here. It's a Female Louis x Legoshi fanfic and it (mostly) follows the perspective of Louis and retelling the story of Beastars with a mix of the anime and manga thrown in.
I hope you enjoy!
She awoke to the sounds of sirens, their screeching wails tearing through the still night and stirring her from her sleep. She was not the late-night type. She had a routine that she followed down to the letter without a single slip-up or distraction: wake up early in the morning, stretch out her tight muscles and ligaments, shower, dress, eat breakfast, and cruise through her classes, followed by attempting to herd a band of rowdy idiots that called themselves the drama club. It was an exhausting schedule for the ordinary Cherryton student.
But Louise was no ordinary student. She was the student of Cherryton Academy, next in line for her father's business, the Horns Conglomerate, and the long-awaited Beastar candidate. She was beloved by many who saw her as their idol. Their inspiration. Their hero. Louise made it her mission to put herself into the spotlight and show everyone that she wasn't just some herbivore. She was Louise the red deer, daughter of Oguma, the next Beastar, and nothing was going to stop her…
Not even the damned police and their infernal noise that no doubt woke up the entire campus!
Louise grumbled as her eyes snapped open. She sat up, turning her head to the window with a defiant glare as if she blamed it for waking her. She then flicked her eyes to the digital clock on her nightstand, only for them to narrow when she read the time:
02:13
The red deer bit back a snarl as she threw the covers off and got out of bed, intent on finding out why the police decided to disturb everyone on a school night of all times. She quickly put on a robe and stepped into some slippers before storming out of her private suite. The elevator had been out of service for the past week due to maintenance issues and safety concerns, so Louise opted for the lengthy trip to the ground level via the stairwell. However, it was almost packed full of her fellow female herbivore students as they made their way down at a frustrating snail's pace. Louise had to bite her lip to keep from growling and yelling at the others. While she didn't blame them, as they were just as tired as she was, Louise didn't have all night, and the sooner this debacle was sorted out, the sooner she could get back to sleep.
When she reached the ground floor and stepped outside, Louise was taken aback by the large crowd amassing at the front of the main building. Not only that but there were several police cars and an ambulance parked by the front gate. An uneasy feeling settled within Louise's stomach when she saw this, and she immediately navigated through the thick gathering of students in search of some familiar faces. Thankfully, they were already gathered together in their own group, and Louise quickly approached them: The Drama Club.
A diverse and inclusive group renowned for being such, the gaggle of mixed herbivore and carnivore students had looks of worry, concern, and confusion written on their faces. But all that vanished and was replaced with relieved expressions once they spotted Louise approaching them. A tiger, the boisterous and obnoxious Bill, jogged to the red deer and met her halfway. Before he could open his mouth and speak, Louise beat him to the punch and asked what was on everyone's mind.
"What happened? Why is everyone out here in the middle of the night?"
Bill shook his head and shrugged. "No idea. Some are saying there was an accident of some kind. But no one is sure about what's going on." Louise huffed and hugged herself, narrowing her eyes at the crowd around them. The tiger was then joined by the rest of the Drama Club students, with an Angora goat named Els at the helm.
"Well," Louise began, turning back to her troupe. "In any case, stick close together and don't let anyone out of your sight. I'm going to find the Headmaster and demand an explanation. I'll return momentarily."
The others nodded, and Louise set off to look for Headmaster Gon and get some answers.
However, it wasn't what she nor anyone else was expecting.
The following day, news of an herbivore student being devoured on campus spread like wildfire. Predation incidents weren't uncommon in the real world, where carnivores sometimes lose themselves and inadvertently attack herbivore bystanders. No one was clueless about that fact. But here at Cherryton Academy, where coexistence and prosperity between herbivores and carnivores was supposed to be the highlight of the school, it came as a shock to many. Some were shaken and woeful that such a terrible thing happened at Cherryton, while others were expectant of it and claimed that it was inevitable and only a matter of time before something like this would occur.
It was a massive blow to Louise and the Drama Club, as the club itself was the primary embodiment of Cherryton's promotion of coexistence between all species. Tem, an alpaca, was devoured by a carnivore. Everyone knew it was a carnivore, as they were the only ones capable of inflicting such wounds. But whether or not it was a carnivore student was left up for debate. However, the incident was more than enough to draw a line between the herbivores and carnivores of the Drama Club. Such was the case when Louise walked in to find the two groups on opposite sides of the room. The doe huffed as she knew this would be a headache to deal with.
She focused her attention on the 'leaders' of the two groups, Bill the tiger and Ellen the zebra, as they started yelling back and forth. Louise rubbed her temple and was about to step in and separate the two when the lights suddenly went out, and all hell broke loose. The herbivore group started panicking, with the girls being the most dramatic and the carnivores remaining calm and collected but equally uneasy with the abrupt blackout. Louise wanted nothing more than to tear the fur off of her head as the panicked screams drove her to the point of insanity. Thankfully, the lights were soon restored, and the room fell silent as everyone looked around bewilderingly. Louise noticed a faint sliver of movement out the corner of her eye and looked up at the landing overlooking the practice room, spotting a dark shape hunched over and perched on one of the rafters above and next to a spotlight. Everyone followed her gaze, and the figure finally revealed to be a particularly large, male gray wolf.
"Sorry," he spoke, his voice soft and calm, contradictory to his otherwise intimidating posture and appearance. "There was a problem with the lights. Please," he paused and waved a large, clawed hand at the group below him. "Continue."
Bill the tiger took a step forward and said, "Legoshi."
Louise's ears twitched upon hearing the wolf's name. Right, she thought. He's that wolf who always likes to hide in the shadows and stay out of everyone's way, the exact opposite of the vicious carnivore he's supposed to be. The doe unconsciously clenched her fists as she watched the wolf climb from the rafters head-first like a cat and stand before the others, towering over all except Bill and Mina, a giraffe.
"I think Tem had a lot of regrets," Legoshi said, keeping his voice low and soft. "There were many things he still wanted to do."
A flamingo and a boar exchanged glances before the former asked, "How do you know that?"
The wolf whipped his head around with those large, pinprick-pupiled eyes and approached them. Everyone tensed until they saw that he was heading for a chipmunk girl holding a bag of walnuts in her hands. He reached inside the bag, grabbed a handful of walnuts, and crushed them with ease before dumping them back into the bag. "They're cracked now," he said in a low whisper, to which the chipmunk responded with a meek "thank you." Then Legoshi turned and faced the rest of the Drama Club, eyes scanning the faces of everyone.
"Anyone would feel that way if they had to die suddenly," he said. "Anyone could…would have regrets." He fell silent as he looked up and appeared to space out momentarily before speaking up again. "I know I would…because that almost happened to me as a young pup." Legoshi looked down and landed his gaze on Els, the Angora goat.
"I have but one question for you, in particular, Els." He approached the trembling goat, his posture hunched as he kept his gaze on her. "Do you feel… sad about Tem's death?"
The goat froze up as she stared fearfully at the larger wolf, and Louise thought the poor girl would faint on the spot. But she managed to muster up some courage and answered Legoshi's cryptic and bizarre question. "I…I don't know. I haven't spoken with Tem much. But…yes, I am a bit sad about it."
The meeting later concluded with everyone heading to their respective locker rooms, wary of the strange, large wolf, Legoshi, because of his odd behavior. But Louise stayed behind with the other team leaders of the club for a secondary meeting. Sheila the cheetah and Dom the peafowl, leaders of the Dance Team and Art Department, respectively, sat patiently in Louise's office as the doe paced back and forth, looking lost in thought. The tragedy that was Tem's sudden and violent passing threw a wrench into the club's upcoming performance, as he was one of the lead actors in the main act. Therefore, they needed a replacement, but there weren't many viable options.
"W-what about Zoe?" Sheila asked, watching Louise intently. "He's only been in the club for a few months, but he's shown promise in some of the past rehearsals."
"That may be true," Dom chimed in. "But he also has a habit of eating the scripts we hand him, resulting in him forgetting his lines most, if not all, of the time."
Louise stopped and regarded the two with a stern side-eye, prompting them to clam up and remain silent. She then sighed, closing her eyes and lowering her head slightly. "Be that as it may, we don't have much choice. Kai, the mongoose, may be next in line from the actor's pool, but he's too hot-headed and has made too many mistakes in previous performances in the past two years. Zoe is our best bet."
"W-what about Legoshi?" Dom suddenly said, nearly stumbling over his words. "Maybe we can give him a chance? I'm sure those of us in the Art Department can refit… Tem's costume so it'll fit—"
"No," was Louise's reply, turning to the avian. "He doesn't fit Odea's stature or mannerisms, not to mention we need to have an herbivore play that part. Besides, that wolf seems content with hiding in the shadows with the spotlights, don't you think?"
"I think you're being a bit too harsh on Legoshi, Louise," Dom interjected. "He's just misunderstood, is all. I'm sure he'll—"
"No," Louise repeated, more sternly this time, glaring at the peafowl. "And that is my final answer. We'll have Zoe take Tem's place for the time being. Come next week, I'll be having him fitted into the role before the performance in three weeks."
Sheila and Dom nodded, to which Louise grunted and dismissed them with a wave of her hand. Once they had gone, the doe sighed and ran a hand down her face in mild frustration. Carnivores… She scoffed. Nothing but untamed beasts with an insatiable appetite. All of this predation nonsense and for what? The inability to repress one's instinct to eat meat? Louise then grabbed her schoolbag, marched out of the office, and left the room, blissfully unaware of a pair of white, predatory eyes observing them from the shadows.
