September 28th 22:48pm
LOCATION: (Main Road) The Streets of Raccoon City
Two Civilians darted under the steel shutters as Jill and Natasha stepped out from the Redstone Subway, the night air was an odd mixture of heat and cold
"More survivors, we've gotta get that train moving" Jill whispered-
The whole city was on fire, that much was obvious, but there was a freezing chill in the Autumn air- Natasha could only associate the sensation with the heavy presence of death itself.
"You ever seen anything like this before?" Jill asked Natasha who immediately thought back to Sokovia, how Ultron and his army of killer robots went about slaughtering the population of the small European city, they would have destroyed the world if it wasn't for the intervention of the Avengers.
Unfortunately, a long list of dead people spoke a lot louder that all the living remaining.
"Depends, what answer would make you feel better?" Black Widow smirked;
Jill just shook her head "Forget I asked".
The two of them survey the main road, the entire street was a complete mess which was most likely the result of the U.B.C.S soldiers attempting to defend the Substation.
"What the fuck is that?" Black Widow asked and motions towards the 'Toy Uncle' toy shop and its nightmarish mascot sign that sat unsteadily on the roof of the toy store
"It's a toy shop Natasha" Jill wondered when she had started to referring to the Avenger by her first name- not that the Avenger seemed to have any issue with it.
"It's the stuff of nightmares Jill, and mark my words when it tries to kill someone, I'll say that I told you so" Jill laughed off the Black Widow's warning.
The duo reached the end on the street every other side was completely blocked off with metal fences, Jill retrieved her Walkie Talkie
"Carlos we've reached the main avenue, which way do we go?" Jill asked whilst Natasha watched behind them at the Zombies trapped behind the metal barricades-
"You see a big transmission tower? That's the substation, you'll have to circle around through an ally on your right to get there" Carlos stated through the radio, however there was a small flaw in Carlos's instructions and that involved the whole ally being on fire,
"You mean the ally that's on fire" Jill replies,
Black Widow knew that it would be easy for her to climb back to the roof tops, but for the sake of her less acrobatic new partner then extinguishing the flames would probably be better
"Maybe, surly a tall drink of water yourself can put out a few flames" Jill shook her head
"Fuck you" Jill irritably responded- Black Widow knew that such a statement should annoy her, but Carlos was reminding her more and more of Clint,
Carlos was an idiot, but fortunately for Carlos the Black Widow had a soft heart for idiots.
"We've gotta put this out Black Widow" Natasha pondered shooting the nearby fire hydrant, but she supposed that there would be guarantee that the water could be directed to where she needed it to be.
"We should check the Railway offices, they're legally obligated to have the fire fighting equipment on hand" Natasha suggested, she was sure that the Railway offices couldn't be too far away.
However, as they turn back one of the barricades keeping the Zombies off the main road collapses and a group of undead slowly made their way over-
"Walk backwards Black Widow, quick" Jill stated- Natasha doesn't hesitate, because as soon as the Zombies were standing right where she wanted them Jill shot a single shot at a red barrel, the large explosion takes out the whole group-
"Who keeps leaving these damn explosive barrels all over the place?" Natasha asked- it was a big health and safety issue- and what the hell was even inside them that made them so combustible.
"I'm not sure if the Raccoon City Health and Safety Council are accepting complaints at the moment" Jill responded.
It was fortunate that the Zombies had knocked over the barricade, because it now opened up the path that they needed to get to the Railway offices.
Jill and Natasha walked down as large set of stone steps where they found themselves in the middle of a Plaza- the area was completely illuminated by the large neon signs that seemed to decorate every building,
"There's a shortcut through that building, but I think we should look for some more supplies" hesitantly Natasha agreed shooting a Zombie that lunged for her.
Black Widow wasn't sure that their time frame exactly warranted looking for more supplies, but she supposed as long as they were quick about it.
They check the warehouse where they find a locked safe "Damn" Jill mumbled,
She supposed that if they looked around- there may be a possibility that someone may have written down the combination,
That was until Black Widow knelt next to the locked safe "Allow me" she insisted and for the next few minutes Jill watched what looked like a master at work,
Jill herself was quick with locks when she had the necessary tools on her, but even she couldn't break in to a sealed security safe.
The lock gave out with a soft thud "Huh, that's a useful skill" Jill mumbled as she finished clearing out the few remaining Zombies in the room-
"What the actual hell, all that's in this fucking safe is a single Dot Sight for a Handgun" Natasha exclaimed causing Jill to laugh.
They exited through a metal fire escape down the side of the warehouse, a Zombie waited for them at the bottom, it doesn't even get a chance to move before Black Widow put a single bullet through its skull.
"Wow- that's gross" Jill mumbled as she stepped back in order to avoid getting covered in Zombie brains,
"You're a very good shot, if you don't mind me asking, where did you learn to shoot like that?" Jill knew plenty of good shots in the RPD, but the Black Widow was entirely on another level with the skill.
"I learned when I was very young" it was all Natasha had to say on the subject, although technically Jill had asked where not when, but that response just led to a whole new lot of questions.
To Jill it was strange to accept the casual backhandedness that Black Widow gave to everything Jill had so far asked her about.
Jill and Chris discussed everything as partners, but then she supposed that you didn't get a name like 'Black Widow' if you were a people person 'How does one- even become a Black Widow?' Jill wondered.
"Huh- you're a real ray of sunshine aren't you?" Jill pouted at her in a mocking way-
Natasha refused to acknowledge the slight jab at her character, besides she'd heard it all before,
Black Widow wasn't an idiot- she was aware that she wasn't the easiest person to get on with, opening yourself up to others meant opening yourself to pain- not caring what others thought about her in fact was much easier.
After ransacking some supplies from the nearby pharmacy and clearing the street out of the undead- the next building was where they needed to look out for some specialist equipment.
"This must be the Railway Offices" Jill stated as she finished emptying a round from her hand gun into the Zombies that lifted themselves of the ground as they sensed the living withing their reach,
Natasha looked up at the red neon sign that read 'KITE BRO'S RAILWAY' everywhere in Raccoon City had strange names.
Entering the buildings main hallway a Zombie of one of the former workers blocked their path, having emptied a lot of her bullets into the Zombies outside Jill hastily set about reloading her Handgun when Black Widow fires one of her Stingers causing the Zombie to convulse in a wisp of bright sparks
"Those things are pretty bad ass" Jill said, she had referred to them as 'Stingers' at least the Black Widow had a theme that she stuck with Jill supposed.
Natasha held up her arm "Yes, well when you're backed by a Billionaire genius you tend to have access to some pretty interesting toys".
They continued walking through the dark hallway where they found the main switchboard room, out of curiosity Jill pushed some of the switches 'Huh Nothing' she thought to herself when Black Widow spoke up,
"What did you expect Jill? There's no fucking power" Jill considered flipping off the Avenger who had an uncanny ability to be sarcastic about absolutely everything.
"The fire equipment must be in the storage room" Jill searched the remainder of the room finding a few useful items to keep in her inventory, but she's damned thrilled when she sees a Shotgun in the case, locked with a large ass chain-
"Fuck" Jill hissed,
She was gonna need a pair of bolt cutters if she was going to get her hands on some better fire power-
"Found the fire hose!" Black Widow announced as she held up the long plastic hose,
Then as she found Jill in the storage room she noticed Jill looking at the firearm out of her reach.
"Locked" she stated as she gave the heavy chain a tug,
Natasha smirked as she strode up to the cabinet
"Allow me" she stated as she retrieved something from her belt.
Next think Jill saw was a bright flash of light cutting through the lock as if it were butter
"Here you go" Black Widow hands her the Shotgun,
"Uh... Thanks, another one of those interesting toys?" Natasha nodded;
Jill swore that if she ever got out of this alive, she was going to have to find herself a billionaire friend.
As they head back to the main road Jill wondered something-
"Hey, do you mind if we take a quick detour through Moon's Doughnuts?" Natasha shrugged,
"Sure, but I don't think they're going to be serving" Jill almost laughed, almost-
"No, I knew the manager. Always kept some gear in his office" it was partially true, but Jill really wanted to be reminded of somewhere with good memories in this nightmare.
They have to clear the place out of Zombies first- Jill sadly looked around at the place that her and her S.T.A.R.S team had spent so much time.
"You know, me and my team practically lived off of these doughnuts, best doughnuts in Raccoon City" Jill smiled sadly as the last remnants of the undead were gunned down,
"S.T.A.R.S right, did you serve at the RPD for long?" the Black Widow asked, Jill shrugged.
Being in her early twenties she wouldn't classify a couple of years as being very long, but she had entered law enforcement as soon as she left college, sometimes she wished that she could go back and tell her younger self to run, to take up mechanics like her father had once suggested to her, but Jill was very stubborn and as it happened a very good shot.
"Your team, tell me about them" Natasha asked as they took a quick breather in the back office where both of them took stock of their inventory,
"Well there's Chris, he's kind of my best friend, I'm not sure I would have made it this far without him"
Natasha nodded understanding that kind of loyalty completely, from what she had read in Chris Redfield's report the S.T.A.R.S officer sort of reminded her of Steve.
A small pinch hurt in her chest, Natasha immediately subdued it; she couldn't think about it now besides- he would be losing his shit once he finds out about the mess, she had gotten herself into,
Jill laughed slightly "What is it?" Natasha asked wondering if she had said something that Jill found amusing-
"It's nothing, it's just Chris would be losing his shit if he knew I was with you, the Black Widow" Natasha raised a sharp eyebrow-
"Oh really?" she smirked, Jill was getting very accustomed to the redheads signature smirk
"Yeah, he totally has a big crush on you, we went to this convention last year and..." Jill's thoughts are cut short as she recalled her favourite piece of Avengers memorabilia had been destroyed along with her apartment and everything else she owned.
"What is it?" Black Widow asked Jill,
"Its nothing, its silly really, but I had this limited-edition Avengers poster that me and Chris picked out at the convention, but its gone now, along with everything else I owned"
Natasha sighed loudly, it was no secret that Natasha wasn't sentimental, she couldn't afford that luxury.
Anything that held any meaning to her was currently kept on her person, the arrow necklace hidden under her uniform, a gift from Clint, the guns at her sides had been the first firearms S.H.I.E.L.D allowed her to a keep, a kind of gift from Nick Fury and her Stingers created for her by Tony Stark.
"Huh, well when we get out of here we'll have to see about finding you a new one" Jill smiled at the Avenger.
Back at the ally engulfed in flames Black Widow fastened the water hose to the fire hydrant whilst Jill extinguished the angry flames-
"No fire is always a big win" Jill grinned to which Natasha rolled her eyes.
They pass through the ally into a storage room for a Mechanics shop, Jill finds some bolt cutter- which were useless now with the Widows ability to break any lock she found.
A loud bang in the locked room next door alerted the both of them that they weren't alone.
