Sam Uley had a rough year and a half.
Phasing into a giant wolf, having to protect his whole community against sparkly vampires, breaking up with his long-time girlfriend, new wolves phasing and him becoming Alpha, graduating, revisiting a treaty with some so-called 'vegetarian' vampires hunting nomads that were hunting innocent hikers.
Then finally it felt like they all got a reprieve.
No more leeches seen skirting around their territory. No more wolves phasing after Embry.
They were able to apply for a business license and start up a construction business which they called 'Uley Pack' no use for subtilty when the elders already knew.
They were invited to a bonfire by Billy Black, for the Chief of Police's daughter.
Isa. As soon as his eyes met hers across the fire, it felt like his whole world shifted. She was now the gravity holding him to Earth, she was the centre of everything. She gave meaning to his world that had fallen to routine. He knew he'd be whatever she needed him to be. She would forever have his devotion and protection. Thousands of tethers that felt similar to a pack bond except stronger attached himself to her and he could feel her surprise.
Somehow he could still hear everyone else around him but none of it seemed to matter. He just wanted to know her in every way.
And then she smiled at him and everything felt right in the world.
When Jacob Black got her attention, Sam felt as his pack sat still as a low growl emanated from him.
Isa glanced back at him and gave him an encouraging smile before turning back to Jacob who was teasing her for dazing out while looking at Sam.
Before leaving that night, she slipped a piece of paper in his hands. Her cellphone number.

Later on when he talked to the elders about what happened, he was told he had a rare gift from the spirits. He'd imprinted. He'd found his soulmate.
