The long time trio of friends, that is to say, Miyabi Shikimori, Jin Hachurui and Akira Honyūrui were at a nearby café so that they could catch up in a more peaceful environment and without prying eyes
-"It has been a long time, Miyabi" Akira said
-"It really has" the pink haired replied, a small smile on your face
-"I´m happy that you took the time to see our naming" Jin said, having contained his excitement partially
-"What are friends for?" she asked "I was surprised when I found out you two were returning to Hino"
-"The opportunity simply showed up" Akira said "And we did come to the realization that it has been years since we last visited our hometown"
-"No need to explain" she replied kindly "I know how busy you two must have been"
-"You must have been busy as well, Miyabi" Jin said "You rarely reply my messages"
She fixed her glasses, trying to not make eye contact "Yes, I have been busy as well. I am sure you two have been reading the news about the new celebrity in the city"
-"Spider-man" Akira said "Yes, we´ve been following as best as we can. The arrest of Fisk was certainly shocking to say the least"
-"It certainly was. One of my daughter´s friends was kidnapped by him"
-"Speaking of Miyako" Jin said, concerned "Is she doing alright? You mentioned that there was an attack at a theme park she was at a couple of months ago"
-"Yes" she looked at the sky "I was terrified, but thanks to Spider-man, she and her boyfriend were saved"
-"Seems like a nice guy then" Akira smiled
-"Hmph" Jin said, feeling a little irritated that Spider-man was gaining attention "We shall see, he might not have the best intentions at heart"
-"He has not given me any reason to doubt him" Miyabi said "If anything, he's proving to be more dependable than Izumi-kun" she shook her head, it was no right to think like that
-"Are you alright?!" Jin asked, a little alarmed
-"Y-Yes" she recovered herself "Anyway, Akira, you sounded quite distressed over the phone the other day, what happened?"
-"Ah, yes" the disabled doctor looked at his drink "Someone stole all of the information in regards to my most important project, or well, at least a portion of it"
-"Really? That's terrible"
-"It is"
-"Is it something dangerous?"
-"I can't tell you much, Miyabi, confidentiality and all of that, but I'm worried that it might have fallen on the wrong hands"
-"Don´t worry, Akira" the mustachioed doctor said, trying to reassure his friend "Whoever stole the information won't know how to use it properly"
-"I hope you are right, Jin. I really do" he drank some of his coffee
-"Fool" Jin thought maleficently, he then looked at the dark pink haired
"Anyway Miyabi, now that we have returned to Hino, I do hope we can spend more time together"
Akira let out a sigh at this
-"We'll see" Miyabi said, aware of what he meant
She did value his friend, but she wished he would understand that she's not interested on him like that
She just simply doesn't want to date anyone anymore
She's happy with being with her children and friends, and that was it
-"I have to return to work now" she stood up "Take care you two"
-"See you later, Miyabi" Akira said
-"Give my regards to Miyako and Fuji" Jin said
And with that, she left
-"Jin" Akira said, putting his remaining hand on his friend's shoulder "You need to get over her"
-"Don't pity me, Akira!" Jin replied, voice slightly raised "She can't still be thinking about that moron!"
She wasn´t, but that was not the issue
-"That moron was our friend" Akira said calmly
-"And look what he did to her! You know she would have never gone through that if she had accepted my feelings!"
-"Be that as it may, it was her decision. We all trusted Haru, but no one was as hurt for what he did as Miyabi. It was a dark time for her and her family"
-"I will never forgive him!"
-"I understand how you feel Jin" he tried to calm down his friend
-"You don´t! You never loved her like I did!" the mustachioed doctor thought, barely containing a scoff from leaving his mouth
The audacity Akira had to say that
-"But as her friends, we need to support her in whatever decision she makes"
Jin let out a frustrated sigh "You were always the collected one, Akira"
And for that, he hated him, not that he ever told him that
He was useful for him after all
-"I know you will see things through, old friend" Akira smiled at him in kind
If only he knew the truth
-"Shall we get going? We need to get everything else ready. Tomorrow our lives in Hino start again"
-"Yes, we have a lot to do" Jin said, standing up from his chair "After you, old friend"
Walking next to each other,
-"Akira doesn´t understand…"
Jin´s thought went back to Miyabi
-"Miyabi, if only I could show you that I am the right person for you and your family. If only you had given me a chance all those years ago"
He just wanted to show her how much he loves her
-"But how… How can I do it?! There must be a way! I am the greatest scientist there is!"
He just needs a way to do so
Tuesday, May the 12th
It was a sunny day for the gang as they were having their last ball game tournament of their highschool lives
-"Come to think of it" Izumi thought "Next week we have to switch to summer clothes" he put a hand on his chin "What am I going to do with my Spider-man suit?"
After all, his school shirt was short sleeves
If he were to wear his costume like had been doing until now
-"People will find out my identity. What could I do? Should I try hiding it in a nearby place?"
His train of thought was cut off when Inuzuka called him
-"Izumi, softball is about to start"
-"Oh, ok"
-"It's our class against Nekozaki-san´s class" Saruogi said
-"Yeah" Inuzuka said, he then started to cry "And since we lost rather quickly"
-"Don't remind me" Izumi said, also crying
It's not like he could have used his powers to win
-"That would be cheating"
-"Nekozaki was so pumped for this" Inuzuka said
-"That's good" Saruogi said
-"Still" Inuzuka said, folding his arms "She's been worried about something else"
-"What do you mean?" Izumi asked
-"Well, it's about Spider-man"
That got his attention
-"She says that she's glad he has returned, but also worried that she might have been the one that cause him to quick on the first plane"
-"What?" Izumi could not believe it
-"Why would she say that?" Saruogi asked
-"Well, she said some mean stuff to him, and she really regrets it. She's hoping that one day she can talk to him and apologize"
-"Nekozaki-san" Izumi looked at her friend who was stretching before the match started "It's not your fault, I am not mad at you, and I will never give up"
He´ll have to tell her that eventually
-"Anyway" Inuzuka said "The match is about to start"
The trio saw Shikimori and Kamiya talking happily to each other
-"They get along so well"
Shikimori was going to pitch
-"Let's see how she does" Inuzuka said
She was walking towards her position on the field
But suddenly, Izumi felt his vibrations going off
-"Huh?"
Despite the noise being caused by the cheers and yells of the students, he was still able to hear the sound of a couple of police cars
Looking behind him, he saw the vehicles passing by the street
-"It´s Spider-man time"
Even though he wanted to spend time with his girlfriend and friends, he had a duty to fulfill
And it was not mandatory for students to remain at the tournament once their event was done with
Taking advantage of the fact his friends were distracted, he quickly ran away to get ready
Some minutes later
-"Wow!" Inuzuka said, completely amazed by his friends´ skills "Shikimori´s shooting the ball really fast! And Kamiya´s hitting it with everything as well!"
-"They are a powerful duo" Saruogi said, also amazed
-"Yeah. What do you think, Izumi?"
He got no answer
-"Izumi?" he turned around "WAH!?"
And Izumi was not there
-"Where´s Izumi?" Saruogi asked, confused at the sudden absence of their friend
-"Beats me" Inuzuka scratched his head
Eventually, the match was over, with the victory of Shikimori and Kamiya´s team
And they were extremely happy about it
-"It was a good game!" Nekokzaki said, despite the fact she lost, she still had fun
-"Yeah" Kamiya said "I was really nervous since I´ve never played softball before"
-"Same here" Shikimori said "Anyway, let's go with the guys"
They walked to them
-"Good work you all!" Inuzuka said
-"Y-Yeah" Saruogi said, voice breaking a bit "You 3 did really good"
-"Aw, thanks Saruog!i" Nekozaki smiled at him
Thankfully, he didn't fall to the floor like before
-"Hm?" Shikimori noticed something "Where´s Izumi-san?"
Inuzuka and Saruogi looked at each other awkwardly
-"Is he in the bathroom or something?" Kamiya asked
-"No, he" Inuzuka scratched his head "He left just as the match was about to start"
-"Eh?" Nekozaki was confused "He left? Why?"
-"I sent him a text. He told me he forgot to do something in regards to his practice classes for the mock exam he's having"
-"Oh" Shikimori said
-"Man, he's really giving his all to this" Nekozaki said
-"Agreed" Kamiya said "I´m glad that I recommended to him"
-"Y-Yeah" Shikimori said "He's putting a lot of effort in, so I'm sure he'll success"
-"Anyway, let's head out" Inuzuka said
While they were walking to the exit
Shikimori had her eyes glued to the floor
She was really happy that Izumi´s found a path to move forward in life
-"I have to learn from his example"
But a small part of her was sad
Because this was one of their last events together as highschool students
And she was really looking forward to seeing him and him seeing her and supporting each other, even if she was going to be embarrassed about it
But he left just like that, without saying a word
It was a sensation that felt…
-"Where's daddy?" a small Shikimori asked one time
Painfully familiar
-"Shikimori!" Kamiya yelled
-"Huh?" she looked up, just in time to stop herself from hitting against a post
-"Are you ok?" the blue haired asked, worried about her friend
-"Y-Yeah" the pink haired replied quickly "Thank you Kamiya, I need to pay more attention"
-"No problem" and she walked ahead
Kamiya kept on looking at her friend
-"She´s sad that Izumi-kun left"
And because she was the one who told him about the seminar for the career he wants to study
-"Was I…" she got anxious "Was I being a busybody?"
-"Yo, Kamiya!" Nekozaki yelled for her "You coming?!"
-"Ah! Y-Yes, on my way!"
And the blue haired went to catch up with the others
Worried that she might have done something that she shouldn't had
At night, Jin was sitting on a chair at his apartment
He was at his computer, going through some files in regards to the university
-"Miyabi" he began to think of her once more
It all started about 20 years ago
Him, Akira, Miyabi, and Haru
The four of them were an inseparable group of friends, similar to Izumi and his
There was nothing that could split them apart
Their highschool lives had been full of laugh, smiles and joy
But for Jin, what he wanted the most was for Miyabi to be his girlfriend
They were childhood friends
Playing games together, eating at each other's families house
They had been the best duo of all the time
But he'd always wanted more than that
He wanted to hold her closer, to embrace her… To kiss her… To have her for herself
To feel her scent on him with each moment they passed together
And so, one day after classes were done with, he mustered all the courage he had and finally confessed his feelings to her
-"I´m in love with you, Miyabi" he said, blush on his face
Her eyes went wide
-"Please go out with me" he added
However, her answer was not the one he was expecting
-"I´m sorry Jin, but"
Pain, despair, anger
All those feelings were eating him alive as he´d to heard the love of his life turning him down
And what added more insult to the wound was the fact that she's actually in love with one of his closest friends
Haru
The only person who knew of Jin´s love for Miyabi was Akira, who did his best to cheer up his friend in his time of need
But no amount of pity words could help
-"He doesn´t understand"
How could he? He was not the one who got his heart broken
Both Haru and Miyabi eventually started dating
It was painful, seeing them act all lovey-dovey right in front of him
-"It should have been me"
That's what he'd thought more than once
But
-"Hehehehehe" she giggled, her arm wrapped on Haru's arm, walking next to each other
-"At least she seems happy" Jin said to himself, as much as he hated to admit defeat, that's all he could do
Splitting them apart was tempting, but could also get him in trouble
It was bad enough she'd turned him down, if she were to hate him for trying to sabotage her relationship
And so, the years passed, the group taking their different paths in life, but remaining on touch with each other
Haru and Miyabi settled down, got married and had to kids
As for Jin, he'd tried to date other women, he really did, but
-"None of them are Miyabi" he looked up to the sky
And suddenly, the news of Haru´s leaving behind her and the rest of their family arrived to him
As horrible as that was… He smiled
He smiled because he knew that now it was his chance
His chance to be with the one he truly loves
Unfortunately
-"Miyabi"
Whenever he tried to make a move on her to spend time together, she would always put up an excuse
-"I´m busy with work. I already made plans with some friends"
How many times had he heard those excuses?
-"WHY DON´T YOU GET IT MIYABI?!" he slammed his table, a seething anger building up "AFTER EVERYTHING, YOU STILL DON´T GET IT!"
She still didn't get the fact that he was the one that she had to be with
-"I'd have thought she´d be delighted that I returned, but all she talked about was seeing both Akira and I, and not me only!"
He took a deep breath
-"Calm down, Jin. A scientist of your caliber can´t lose his cool"
Deciding to take a break from work, he opened another tab, and began to read a news article
-"Spider-man foils attempted armed robbery at local charity house… Bah!" he scoffed disgusted "People are really that easily impressed by some random guy in a Halloween costume?"
As if his accomplishments could ever compare to his
-"Of course not! Not even in a million years!"
He kept on reading the article
Since he had already started it, might as well finished it before moving on to something else
And what he read next caught his attention
-"I was really terrified" it's what one of the hostages said "But as terrifying as it what, it made me realized that had I died, I would have never been able to realize how I truly feel about the one I genuinely love"
-"What I truly feel" Jin repeated, something dawning on him
Something terrifying had happened to that person, but it had helped her
Helped her realize the truth
-"That robbery helped her to realize who she truly loves…"
What if?
-"That 's it!" he had an eureka moment "All I have to do for Miyabi to realize her love for me"
Is to put her in a dire situation similar to the one he had read
-"Simply brilliant! Sometimes I surprise myself!"
But then one issue showed up
-"But how exactly do I do that?"
There must be a way
And´s that when something clicked on his mind
-"That´s it"
He retrieved a flash drive from his pocket
It had all the information on the secret project he had stolen from his friend Akira
-"That fool does not deserve to work in something like this! Only my genius can take this idea to its maximum glory"
Plus, and as much as he hated to admit, it was the correct first step for his own personal project himself
The project that would allow him to rule as a King
-"Don´t worry, dear Miyabi" he smiled sadistically yet with lust "It might be painful, but it will help you realize how much you love me"
He then thought about a certain superhero
-"Spider-man… Bah!" he waved him off "There's no way he´ll be able to do something about it! The only one who has the way to counter is Akira, since he keeps the other part on another computer close to him ever since the theft of the first portion of it"
A theft that he committed… Not that the fool that Akira was would ever connect the dots
-"I could easily come up with it myself, but why? Soon, Miyabi will be mine!"
He was really gonna kill two birds with one stone
Get Miybai loves, and use all of the information he can obtain from this test drill to further advance his own personal project
What could possibly go wrong?
-"I am a genius! Hahahahahaha!"
Friday, May the 15th
After classes had been done with, Shikimori (Miyako that is) was with Izumi's mom Motoko at one of their cooking classes
-"Nicely chopped, Micchan" Motoko cheerfully said "Your skills keep improving everyday"
-"Thank you so much" Shikimori replied, embarrassed yet proud that her efforts are paying off "Still, I have a long way to go"
While she has come a long way from the meals that would cause her and Izumi to spit it out in disgust, she knew it was not a reason to keep practicing her skills
Plus, hanging out with her boyfriend's mom is always fun
-"Next step" the teacher said "Add the chopped vegetables to the pot and begin to mix them with the oil and spices. While one of you do that, the other must start repairing the meat to add for the stew"
-"Could you start dicing the meat while I add this Micchan?" Motoko asked
-"Sure thing" she started to cut it into cubes… As best as she could anyway
-"Good handling on the knife" the elder woman complimented her
-"Thank you"
-"How is school going?"
-"It's going well. There was a student who was giving a bit of issue in regards to the clothes, but we´ve managed to overcome that" she smiled as she remembered her
-"I am glad to hear that. Yuu has told me that you are having a study session on Sunday, correct?"
-"Yes" the pink haired said as she kept on dicing "We are meeting at my house once more. It's always fun studying in groups"
-"I agree. And have you made any progress in choosing a university to attend after graduation? Yuu is quite excited now that he has chosen one"
-"Y-Yes" she ignored the fact that he'd kept that hidden from them for some time, except Kamiya
Would have been nice if he had told her first
-"As for me, well… I do have one in mind, but I'm nervous"
-"I can understand that, with entrance exams and all, but so long as you properly prepare, you´ll be fine"
-"Thank you"
In all honesty, it was not only the entrance exams that had her nervous
It was the fact that, after learning where Izumi was planning to go, she wanted to go to the same one as him
-"I wonder how he will take it?"
Deciding to change the topic to something much lighter
-"How is work going?" Shikimori asked her
-"Oh, it's going lovely, thank you for asking. I was nervous at first since it had been a long time since I last worked, but everyone has treated kindly"
-"That's good to hear" then her eyes light up a bit "Oh, that reminds me, what happened back in February?
-"Hmm?"
-"Izumi-san told something happened at your work on Valentine's day, so I was wondering if it was solved"
-"Oh, that. One of the washing machines got broken, so it was a mess of soap and bubbles, but fortunately the technician came and fixed it rather quickly. He was a genius"
-"..." Shikimori went quiet, something about that story didn´t sound correct "Was Izumi-san there?"
-"Eh? No, he wasn't, why?"
-"I figured you would have call him for help" that's what he had told her, hence why he stood her up at the park that day
-"Hehe" the older woman giggled "Yuu is wonderful at many things, but he's not an expert at repairing machines. Even if I had called him for help, there´s nothing he could have done"
Shikimori began to sweat, and it was not because of the heat of the kitchen
-"Not even bringing you something that you might have needed?" the pink haired further asked, trying to get to the bottom of this
-"No. The hardware shop is just a block away, so there was no need to ask him to"
-"I…" Shikimori struggled with this new found revelation "I see… I'm glad it all turned out well"
-"Thank you Micchan" she smiled "Anyway, that should be enough chopping of the meat, so let´s added it here"
-"Y-Yeah" and she did so
As the classes kept on going, Shikimori´s mind was thinking about what Izumi had told her that day
-"Mom sent me a text. She needed for me to bring her something at work. It was urgent, so I had no other choice"
As vague as it sounded back then, she had accepted it as the truth, as well as the rest of their friends did when they had asked
But, if she were to consider what Motoko had just told her as the actual truth
Then that would mean
-"Izumi-san…. Lied to us?!"
The revelation had her mouth hanging opened in shock
And what's worse is the fact that
-"He lied to me?!"
There's no way he could do that
Izumi would rather punch himself before lying
-"But"
Doubt was beginning to take form inside of her in light of recent events
-"Considering what's been happening lately, Izumi-san is acting quite different than before"
A grimace that reflected a deep concern and fear for herself and her boyfriend accompanied on the way home
Sunday, May the 17th
It was just another regular day for the inhabitants of Hino, regardless of the fact that they were the host town of a famous and sometimes controversial superhero
But what's important was the fact that the trio of friends, that is to say Jin, Akira, and Miyabi were at a coffee place to enjoy some drinks while catching up
A much deserved break for all of them before having to return to their respective jobs
-"So Miyako is having a study group today?" Akira asked
-"Yes" Miyabi said "Hopefully there won't be any other shocking revelations like the last one"
She decided to keep that last part to herself
-"Good" Jin said "I hope they don't slack off though"
-"They don´t give me that sort of impression"
-"I remember when we had our own sessions back when we were at highschool" Akira said, reminiscing about the past
-"Good times indeed" Miyabi said with a small smile
-"Order 27!" a male barista at the counter called for them
-"Let me go get our drinks" Jin offered, he then went for the drinks
-"Here you go" the barista said, handing him the drinks, and then went to work on the next order
-"Thank you" he grabbed first the coffee that was meant for Miyabi
Looking at his surroundings, he spotted no cameras or people looking his way
And so, he took out a test tube that had a green and shiny liquid inside of it
-"This is for you, Miyabi"
And pour said liquid into the coffee
Once he was done, he picked up the rest of the drinks and went back to his friends
-"Here you go" he said with a smile as he extended her drink
-"Thank you Jin"
-"No problem" he extended the drink to Akira
-"Cheers" he said
They all followed the gesture, and drank their beverages
A smile of satisfaction forming on Jin´s face as he saw Miyabi drinking the contents of the cup of coffee mixed with the liquid from before
-"Delicious, isn´t?" the mustached doctor asked
-"Indeed" both of his friends replied
Suddenly, Jin´s phone began to ring
-"Hmm"
-"What´s wrong?" Akira asked
-"It´s Haruko, one of our colleagues" he added the last part so that Miyabi could be aware of "She says she has something to discuss with me"
-"Is there a problem?" Miyabi asked
-"Not that I'm aware of. Guess I´ll have to see what she needs from me" he stood up "Continue enjoying yourselves. Until we meet again my friends"
-"Take care Jin" Akira said
-"Good luck" Miyabi said
-"Likewise" and with that he was gone
Feeling completely fulfilled that his plan is working perfectly
All he had to do now was wait a bit more
-"Soon, my dear Miyabi"
Some time later
Shikimori and the rest of her friends were sitting at the table, their studying material spread all over it
They were waiting for Izumi to show up
-"Izumi-san has texted me" Shikimori said "He says he´ll be here in five minutes"
-"That's good" Inuzuka said
-"Is something the matter, Nekozaki-san?" Saruogi asked
The black haired was busy reading something on her phone
-"Nekozaki?" Shikimori asked
-"Huh?" Nekozaki looked up "Sorry, I was just reading this article about Spider-man"
-"Are you still worried about what you had told us?" Inuzuka asked
-"Yeah" her shoulders sagged "I just wished I hadn't said what I said. I made it sound like it was all his fault, and after he saved me and everything"
-"Now that I think about it" Kamiya said, hand on her chin "I haven't properly thanked him for saving me either"
-"I'm sure he knows how you feel" Inuzuka said, trying to calm them both "The guy doesn't strike me as someone who holds grudges against people Nekozaki, so don´t worry"
-"I agree" Saruogi said
-"I hope you are right"
Shikimori then remembered Shocker´s words once more
-"Blame Spider-man for your fate"
Honestly, she didn't want to think about Spider-man
She had bigger things to worry about
Luckily, the doorbell rang
She went to open the door, and smiled upon seeing him
-"Hello Izumi-san. Come on in"
-"Hello Shikimori-san, and thank you, please excuse me"
He made his way to the table were the others were at
-"Hi everyone" he said to his friends as he took his seat
Shikimori followed suit
-"Good, now that everyone is here" Inuzuka said "Let's begin"
However, the door opened once more
From it, Miyabi and her son Fuji entered the house
Though Miyabi looked quite tired as she made her way to the living room
-"Good afternoon everybody" her voice sounded drained
-"Mom, are you ok?" Shikimori asked worried
-"She was not feeling well, so I went to pick her up from work" Fuji said, ignoring how nervous he was for the fact that there were so many people in the living room
-"I´ll be fine after some" Miyabi said, walking towards the couch "Rest" she put a hand on the back rest "Ah"
She got on her knees
-"Mom!" Miyako and Fuji went to her
The others stood up from the chairs
-"Call an ambulance!" Inuzuka said
But before they could
Miyabi pushed her children away
-"Huh?"
-"Huff….Huff"
She was sweating more as she struggle to breath
-"Huff… Ngh" she grabbed her head, it felt like it was going to split open "Nghggg"
-"Mom?" Shikimori asked
-"Ngh" she shook her head from side to side "Ghehh…"
Something was happening to her
Suddenly, Izumi´s vibrations went off
-"What?!" he could not believed it
-"Ugh….." Miyabi´s heart was beating faster
The pain was too much
-"Ngh…." she looked up "AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
And her pupils turned yellow and vertical like
Like the ones of a certain reptile
Her body began to change
It started with her torso and thighs buffing up, shattering the clothes she was wearing
Her skin itched, but when she tried to scratch it, tissues of it fell off, giving place to green scales that kept on forming all over her body
It even managed to get rid of her hair, leaving a bald head covered by sclaes
-"Hah!" she planted her hands on the floor as saliva fell from her mouth
The fingertips began to elongated
She stood up, trembling as she kept transforming
She could feel her backbone stretching as it extended out into a long tail with spike like things growing on it
There was a scraping sound as her knees suddenly reverse direction
Her eyes drew closer together, and her jaw had extended to look like the one of a lizard
Her teeth had turned into sharpened fangs
While this transformation was happening, Izumi and the others could only watched with mouths open in a mix of shock and fear
Her fingers were gone, now replaced with sharp claws
She toppled forward, no longer able to walk upright
-"Graaaaaaarrrr….Grrrrr" she made that growl
-"M….Mom?" Shikimori asked hesitantly
Suddenly, Miyabi, if she could even be called that, turned her head to them
What was standing in front of them was no longer Miyabi Shikimori

She let out a roar that marked two things
The beginning of a new nightmare
And
The fact that she was hungry for flesh
And that´s the end of that. Well, that took quite the turn, really messed up what Jin has done
Also, the seed of doubt due to Izumi´s action is growing on Shikimori, how will she handle this?
Next time, Izumi has to fight a lizard creature (which just happens to be his girlfriend´s mom... Man, the study sessions at the Shikimori household are always wild). Will he be able to do something to save her?
