RvB season 15(Incomplete)
A/N hey everyone, its been years since I've published, well anything, especially since I published anything RvB related, with, with the final season of Red vs Blue and closing of Rooster Teeth I've decided to come back, I'm not going to lie to you, I originally did not care for season 15, but Restoration moved me, it's fitting I atleast publish what I got, Vulcan and Rogers are characters that I love, might even commission fan art for them. I don't know If I'm going to write Restoration, I don't know if I'm going to do the other seasons or even if I'm going to finish this but I feel like I have to atleast publish this. This is not finished but its what I got and...I'm going to lie down for a second. Thank you Rooster Teeth, thank you Burnie, Matt, Joel, Gus, Shannon, Geoff, I honestly wished, dreamed to be a screenwriter of Rooster Teeth, I just hope people will remember and I won't last one to publish here, that there will be those who will publish grand stories.
An older man watched the news, how the Reds and Blues attacked another UNSC outpost. He didn't believe it, not even the whole 'Chorus' angle. That's when there was a knock on the door. He just sighed as he got up and answered the door. There he saw an Asian woman, next to her was some hispanic looking man holding a camera on his shoulders. "General Vulcan?" she asked.
"I don't want any." Quick and to the point, James slammed the door to only see a hand stopping it. He smirked, he had to give it to the reporter. She really wanted to talk to him, it's been nearly a decade since a reporter wanted to talk to him like this. Closest thing he had was a documentary crew a few months back talking about the great war. He opened the door only to find that the woman had used her cameraman's hand, he lost his smirk but did raise an eyebrow, unsure if he should be impressed or unnerved.
"Owww." Jax whined.
"You alright boy?" the man asked, not entirely concerned but mostly doing it out of courtesy.
"I think my hand is broken." he cried, holding his hand. Feeling bad enough the old man rolled his eyes and opened the door
"Fine, you can come inside. I'll take a look at your friends-"
"He's not my friend." The woman quickly cut him off which caused James to growl.
"And answer a few questions. Set up what you need in my study. It's just to the side." James guided them into his study, it was what one might expect of a old war time general. Books, actually books, some even original copies were on shelves, all read once or twice. Model ships and maps of all kinds lined the wall as well as a fully stocked liquor cabinet. He grabbed a brandy glass and filled it half way. He watched as the woman grabbed a helmet and messed with it. He just sighed again and took a seat. He grabbed the man's hand to check it. "So how do you want to do this?"
"Let's start with names. We already know who you are." The woman said.
"Not really." The man said.
"I know who you are. He's Jax and I'm Dylan Andrew might I say how big of an honor it is-"
"Cut the shit kid. What is this about?"
"We're here to talk about your daughter. Emma Vulcan."
"I'll give it to you not many people know she's my daughter."
"To be fair sir. Vulcan is not a common name it isn't even your family's real last name."
"What he changed after watching Star Trek." Jax asked.
"No you idiot didn't you pay attention in history class?" Dylan said.
"I um." He began to rub his neck in embarrassment. "Not really. I generally just wiki stuff or watch a movie about the time period like for an assignment for World war 2 I watched the first twenty minutes of X-men and Inglorious bastards. I got a lot of frowny faces on my assignments, and that was in highschool."
"It's quite alright." He smiled, the subject of his last name was an interesting one. "It's one of those very obscure historic moments. I'm surprise you were aware of it."
"History is one of my favorite subjects. I find it fascinating how easy for it to be change, how one lie about the past can be fuel for propaganda, be used to justify terrible things. Your family already had a long line of people in the military but five years before the UNSC formed, your great grandfather was part of a UN task force deployed to the island off the coast of Italy called Vulcano, they were up against a terrorist cell who got their hands on a nuclear warhead. They wanted to deploy it in atmo which would've killed millions from the fallout alone. James, the man you are named after stopped them with minimal loss. He was called the Hero of Vulcan, after that he took the island name as its last. Some people even believe he was one of the many contributing factor to the formation of the UNSC. At least he was featured at 'The Fire of change' propaganda poster for several years. Afterwards"
"I'll give it to you, that was good. But one thing I don't buy that you knew it off the top of your head."
"True I did study the Vulcan family on my way here but at any consolation he was briefly talked about in history of propaganda back in college."
"So what would you like to know."
"Do you believe that the Reds and Blue or at least your daughter is apart of this?" James gave Dylan a glare but only shook his head.
"No, she couldn't be. She has no reason too. Going against the UNSC is a death sentence. Hundreds of factions, a thousand times bigger than Chorus tried before the war and even they failed."
"What about the armor? That can't be a coincidence."
"Even you should know that much of the armor from project freelancer is still missing. Even the Sim Trooper armor is valuable. If you should find the right dealer on the black market you could armor enhancements, VI, weapons and Sim armor. It could easily just be a group of copycats, framing the Reds and Blues"
"How are you so sure. Have you had contact with your daughter." She put a recorder, probably for personal notes almost to his face.
"No, well. Not recently."
"Care to explain?"
"A month after the message was sent out, the one that landed the bird face bastard in jail. I met with my daughter and her husband. At some colony, halfway between here and Chorus."
"Wait, she married Dan Rogers?"
"Yeah, ha. Surprised me as well. When I met up with her. We talk and she told me she was done with everything."
"Care to elaborate?" Dylan asked.
"She was tired of the fighting, adventures. She just wanted to live a peace. And then she dropped off the face of the Earth, figuratively speaking I mean. I haven't able to speak to her since. Your man's hand isn't broken."
"Thank you for your time." Dylan got up from her seat and shook his hand. He wasn't happy but complied to be polite. Wondering what his daughter is doing at this very moment.
"Hey, if you happen to find her. Tell her I miss her."
"Yeah. Can do."
"ZZZZZZGHHH." Emma snored loudly, to much of the dismay of Dan. She slept peacefully until the sun rose and hit her in the face. She woke to find her husband smiling at her.
"Moarning beatiful."
"What time is it?"
"About ten." Her smile turn to a slight frown before switching back to a small smirk.
"Why did you let me sleep in too late."
"Well, you need your beauty rest, you work too hard and-" He poked her belly, a large bump was there. She swatted his hands way with a small giggle. "You're pregnant."
"Still I need to help with breakfast. For everyone's sake, or at least my sake. I'm eating for two."
"I'm sure Tucker and Caboose will be fine without you. And I can make you breakfast. In bed too."
"Hey I'm not totally useless. I'm only six months along."
"Still. You need to be careful." He kissed his wife on the forehead and then on her belly. The two got out of bed and went into their kitchen. It was a lot better than what they had back on the shipwreck though if she had to choose she rather have the kitchen back in Blood Gulch. She grabbed herself double rations, and made herself some tea. The two sat in silence for a few moments before she brought up something that caused the two to fight.
"I think we should leave."
"We had this discussion."
"No we've danced around this. I'm six months pregnant and none of us know how to deliver a baby."
"We've been studying."
"What happens if I need a C-Section? Or the cord wraps around her throat. We're not prepared for that. All I'm saying is that we find Grey or Dufrane." Rogers gave his wife a 'really' look. "Alright fair enough, we find Grey and have her help."
"We have a medbot."
"That flimsy thing? It was built thirty years ago." She tried to stay calm but before any of them could speak they saw a ship in the sky. The two looked at each other and nodded. Vulcan followed her husband back to their bedroom, she watched him began to put on his sim trooper armor and threw her some protective clothing. They quickly head towards base camp. They lived awhile away from base but so did everyone else. In the months they lived on the island everyone set up a house far from one another. They chose to build their house in an open plain so they could see anyone coming, Donut built his home on a beachside front, Sarge had the best layout. Built his home inside a cave at the bottom of a gulch. Above was a sheer cliff and to the side a rocky jagged rocks. Natural choke point he said.
"So who do you think it is?"
"I don't know, but they haven't tried to kill us yet. So that's a plus." Rogers said. "And if they do they'd have to answer to my baby doll."
"Aww."
"Yep, my SMG."
"Oh."
"And you." Rogers said poking his wife in the side playfully. When they reached base camp everyone was doing their own thing. Tucker and Grif were playing a game where they have parody band names except they replace one of the words with 'red' or 'blue'. Sarge was ready for war and Simmon's was running as if he was on Crystal meth and two new people. They wore armor like everyone else but didn't care any weapons, well except the girl. She had a pistol and that was it. He watched as she was talking with Grif. He didn't hear what they said mostly because Donut came out naked, and Sarge fell from the sky.
"Just another day for us." Rogers walked up cautiously while Vulcan stayed back, probably for the best. As he got closer the woman began to yell.
"Listen, everyone! I have no idea what the FUCK you're all doing but you need to know your man Caboose is terrible injured and possible dead." For a second Rogers was worried about Caboose, before snickering. The one thing about Caboose was he was probably the hardest to kill and if as on que Caboose had walked up behind the group.
"Oh no not Caboose!"
"How?" Rogers stepped up.
"The thing about Caboose is he's tougher than he looks." That's when Wash and Carolina came by.
"Now would be a great time to start explaining yourself ma'am." Wash said.
"You can start with who you are, and what you're doing here."
"Washington and Carolina? You're alive."
"Listen lady I got a baby on the way. So it's in your best interest to answer their questions."
"Vulcans pregnant." The woman said with a sort of awe.
"Don't change the subject."
"Sorry. Sorry. Names Dylan Andrews of Interstellar Daily. I'm doing a story about the attacks perpetrated by the Reds and Blues since Chorus."
"Um what?"
"Along with the disappearances of the ex-freelancers agents as well"
"Which Freelancers are missing?"
"All of them."
"You're serious?" Vulcan said as she came
"And I'm exaggerating when I say I've been searching for, all of you for a very long time."
"Well congratulations . You found us."
"Yeah, all twelve of us." Vulcan said smiling at her stomach.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Now that's a story." Rogers said with a laugh. "Come on, let's get into homebase."
"Oh is it setup like-" The young man went on tangent of videogame forts and survival movies. Rogers just shook his head, when they moved inside they went to a sort of meeting room. Everyone took a seat, with the reporter and her friend at the end of the table and the Freelancers at the other. Once everyone was settled in Washington quickly cleared his throat.
"So, why don't we don't we start with the attacks."
"No! We came halfway across the galaxy, sacrificed our careers and risked both life and limb for answers. So can we start with my questions or we walk." Everyone looked in shock, few have stood up the freelancers like that. The only person of recent memory to do so, and live was Vulcan during one of her pregnant moods. She yelled and screamed at Washington and Carolina when they refused to let her have double rations, That didn't end too well for them as he he remembered.
"Alright. What do you want to know?"
"Simple. What have you been doing since Chorus." Grif let a large sigh.
"Lots of bullshit. I don't even know where to start."
"Before or after the temple because if it was before it's going to be NSFW reeeaaaal quick."
"Temple?"
"Oh yeah, after we captured Hargrove, we partied FUCKING hard. See, Chorus has this alien relic called 'The Temple of Procreation. That when activated makes-"
"We said we wouldn't talk about it!" Grif and Simmons yelled at the same time causing Vulcan to snicker.
"Yeah, things got weird. We tried to stop him but he snuck off. Next thing we knew we all were horny and fucking." Vulcan said.
"Wait." Jax said. "That was ten months ago, shouldn't you have a bundle of joy by now?"
"Not to gross you out kid, but I wasn't ovulating at the moment."
"EWW."
"Shut up Jax."
"You guys keep saying you had no control but nothing felt different for me."
"Of course it didn't. You are literally the horniest man on Earth? Would that work, no. In the galaxy. That's better."
"Can w- can we change the subject?" Simmons said.
"Oh, they're just upset because they got locked in a closet during the whole thing."
"The subject. Change it."
"To actually answer your question, after the war on Chorus, we decide we were due some time off."
"Yeah, we earned some R&R. Even Carolina agreed"
"Thought I'd try the simple life out."
"And when I learned we wouldn't have any more adventures I jump aboard." Grif said.
"Not literally of course, Grif is physically incapable of jumping." Rogers said with a light laugh, earning a glare from Grif but he didn't care.
"Kimball set us up on this isolated moon and she built us this most awesome new base."
"It was nice." Vulcan said, taking over. "We adjusted well to the peace and quiet, well most of us. Sarge got depressed after he didn't die a heroic death."
"Lies."
"Um sir you said-"
"I am hopelessly depressed after not dying on Chorus. We need a new enemy to-"
"Sarge wasn't the only one having a hard time adjusting." Everyone looked at Carolina.
"What?"
"Fortunately we found her a tutor."
"The peaceful times didn't last too long though, turned out this place had some native lifeforms." That was fun, the dinosaur like beasts chased the guys arounds as they played games like poke the raptor and steal the eggs.
"And then Donut burned down our bases!" Grif yelled.
"Hey that-"
"Donut, there is a child's room in the room!" Vulcan screamed before balling into tears. Rogers could only sigh, she had occasional outbreaks of mood swing but those were rare.
"Why is he naked?" Jax asked.
"Is that really your first question?"
"So we ended up losing most of our rations in the fire, so fatass started to eat the native plant life. Bonus fact, the glowing mushrooms are basically crystal meth on crystal meth."
"Hey atleast I didn't bother trying to learn Esperanto."
"This fucker thought Esperanto is spanish for spanish, su español, puta." Vulcan joked, slapping Simmons on the shoulder.
"Gi está tiel sole."
"Freckles got a new body!" Caboose screamed.
"That's around when we tried to get the cash for a new base. I suggested a nude car car wash but Vulcan began to show so we instead sold our movie rights."
"Hollywood really screwed the pooch on that one."
"We were rich!"
"Speak for yourself, me and Vulcan still got our share. We have to think about her college fund."
"I still think it's going to be a boy." Grif said.
"Dude I know things."
"Anyways we realised water parks are a lot more awesome than bases."
"So then we ended up building the galaxy's greatest water park."
"Then Donut happened." Wash said.
"Then there was the band the three idiots made, get this a band." Vulcan said laughing. "Oh right, Carolina ended up joining as well."
"And she is such a talented singer." Tucker said, gritting his teeth.
"Thank you."
"Oh, they're just saying it because she can kill her."
"Emma, don't be rude."
"You know I can't tell if her moodiness had increased from the pregnancy or not." Tucker said aloud. "Hey just saying."
"After that happened Sarge built his own robot army to fight buuutttt they ended up attacking the dinosaurs."
"Ok that was fucking awesome." Rogers said.
"After that, Vulcan began a health cleanse and forced everyone."
(Flashback)
"Alright everyone, I read that eating nothing but vegetables helps your baby grow and if others eat healthy it will help your baby too. So that's why I locked up all unhealthy food." Vulcan stood atop a podium, her baby bump barely visible
"Um where did you read this?" Wash ask, raising his hand.
"A mommy blog."
"Jesus Christ. I'm going-" Before he could do anything else Vulcan pulled out a detonator. "I have wired the unhealthy stash to blow up, so if any of you attempt to steal it. Boom."
"You've gone mad with power!" Grif screamed.
"What else are we going to eat!" Tucker yelled.
"The vegetable garden, you guys haven't noticed it?" She then pointed to the side and sure enough there was was a large greenhouse filled to the brim with vegetables.
(Now)
"After a week, Sarge declared war on the green house and destroyed it with Grifs help."
"Turned out Vulcan hadn't put a detonator in, it was just a bluff." Tucker added.
"After that Sarge declared war on gravity."
"We attempted to make a new system of government."
"Spoiler. Malarky won."
"Rogers opened up a bar but then became scared of being a father and drank himself into a comma. Which then we went on a adventure to show him he wasn't going to end up like his father.
(Flashback)
"I just want to say, thank you. All of you. I now realise I don't have to be afraid." Rogers said tearing up. Grif patting him on the back.
"Now, let's go home."
(Now)
"Then Caboose got trapped in a different dimension for a week."
"Oh that? Grif just threw a malfunction future cube which hit Caboose."
"What?! I still had a buffet. I want to see if I could get it."
"We thought Donut died so we buried him, turns out it was just his armor."
"Then Wash grew a beard."
"And Grif spiked Simmons food with methrooms." Vulcan said. "And the weirdest thing is, instead of peaceful retirement we've been the same group of idiots."
"It's been nice." Rogers said.
"Well it certainly seems like you've all been busy."
"Yeah, when we aren't having our misadventures me and V are putting Ikea baby stuff together."
"Wait I thought you guys burned all of it, then the Ikea." Simmons said.
"Yeah we're not allowed in Sweden."
"Still, my records of your actions on Chorus end when you entered the Staff of Charon. I would love to know what happens next." Everyone looked at one another with uncomfortable looks on their face.
"That's a...sensitive topic. We lost a friend that."
"I miss Church."
"You mean the Epsilon AI?"
"No. He means Church." Vulcan said with a growl.
"He gave everything to save us. Wasn't the first time either."
"It was so awesome for a while there! He powered up my suit and I was like Neo in the goddamn matrix. I was juggling these two guns and the sword and dodging bullets, it was fucking awesome, and then it was over and he was gone. The suit was useless, empty. But we won."
"I'm sorry."
"So what's your story. Like I said outside. While you've been here, a group of people that look alot like you, been going around stealing and robbing UNSC property. While looking into that I discovered that nearly every former freelancer vanished."
"Holy shit." Vulcan said.
"That's an understatement."
"And to top this off, most people think those imposters are working for Chorus. The UNSC is ready to invade."
"Is that why Kimball sent you? So we can deal with them?" Grif said.
"Yeah, she knows were retired."
"She actually sent me to deliver a message. She wa pretty vague about it."
"Who's it from?"
"She didn't say." Dylan then slid a holo projector.
"This is Church, or Alpha. If you're getting this-" The rest of the message was broken, but everyone stared at the holoprojector with opened jaws. And then. "Help. Please, send help."
"God fucking damn it." Tucker didn't say and as he ran out of the base
"Come on! What are you all waiting for! We're wasting time!" Tucker yelled as he ran out of the base. Caboose, Wash and Carolina ran out of the base. Vulcan was tempted to follow but the baby began to kick. She winced for a second.
"You alright?" Rogers asked.
"The baby, I'm alright. It looks Sarge is going on a rant. He's going to be pissed if you're late."
"Alright, I love you." Rogers followed the rest of red team out of base. Well except for Grif. He fell in line.
"Atten-hut. Men! Robots! Donut. Our long and terrible nightmare of peace has finally come to an end. To the east, storm clouds are gathering. To the west the dogs of war are a howling." He began to howl. "Come on
"Um arrrooooo."
"Come on just do it like a dog. Howl and draw it more. Are enemy is nign, we must stand and fight. For our very lives and our very livelihoods are at stake. We must fight back, against the whites."
"Jesus fucking Christ." Sarge then went on to continue his speech, though Rogers could tell what he meant to an outsider it sounded Charles Manson type shit.
Meanwhile Vulcan rejoined rest of Blue team, at a good time too. Or bad depending on how you view things. "I have a proposition for all of you."
"What is it?" Vulcan said.
"Simple you help me I help you find your friend."
"Alright but what do you want?"
"Not much just interview, access and the exclusive."
"I don't buy it. How are YOU exactly going to trace a message?"
"I won't be. I have an AI assistant. He hasn't let me down yet."
"AI?" Carolina asked.
"Artificial Intelligence." Caboose said. "I forgot what it meant too."
"Where and did you get it?"
"Those details aren't part of the deal. It's a trusted source."
"WE need to know if we can trust YOU."
"Smart or dumb AI?
"Dumb, very dumb."
"Still, I don't like the idea of civilians tagging along."
"What about her?" Dylan said pointing at Vulcan.
"She's still a trained soldier."
"And I reported on the frontlines for the great war. I know how to defend myself."
"And your Camera man?"
"He's-"
"I've...seen things you people wouldn't believe, attack ships on fire, off the shoulder of Orion and scene." And when Vulcan thought they couldn't get any more idiots, at least the girl seemed intelligent.
"Don't make deal with the whites! There blankets are covered in smallpox!" And she stands corrected. "Back off missy. We know you have Grif."
"Rogers, what the fuck is Sarge yelling about?"
"He thinks she took Grif hostage."
"I what? We don't have him."
"They been with is the whole time Sarge. They didn't take Grif."
"We're all on the same team remember?"
"Read, White and Blue all working together? How un-American." Rogers was about to say something but Vulcan. She just grabbed his arm and shook her head.
"Great now we have to find Grif. We don't have time for this!"
"I agree, let's pack up and prepare to move out. He'll turn up sooner or later. We leave tomorrow."
"I'll check the pantry." And after that everyone went their separate ways, heading back home. Vulcan and Rogers turned to the reporters.
"Would you like to come with us for dinner tonight?" Vulcan asked.
"Hm, yes. That would be nice." The two then traveled back home, the trip was short.
"Nice house." Jax said.
"Thank you. We used what we could. Mostly bits from our old base, a shipping container for a basement and some extra materials left behind. You can use the baby room to sleep."
"Well, you have an hour before dinner . You're free to wander around the area. I'd just recommend you don't go near the caves at the west end."
"Why?"
"That's Sarges bases. Caves by the East is where Grif set up home. Hm. Bastard was lazy but not a bad idea in the end. The cave ran deep so it was pretty dry near the back. Set up a few flood light, a couple of tarp curtains to keep the rain out when it did get bad and boom. Got a pretty nice home. You won't miss it. Huge pile of trash near the entrance." As he finished explaining Grif's home Jax whispered to her, he could hear it though.
"Hey that's where I saw Grif last."
"I think I'll go on a walk to clear my head. I'll be back, come on Jax. It'd be rude for Mr and Mrs Rogers to entertain guest." As they left Rogers turned to his wife.
"What do you think their going to do."
"When I was a kid, reporters would visit our house every once and awhile. They're just going to talk to Grif. Get their exclusive."
"And if not?"
"You heard the woman. We don't have to entertain them. I haven't been that good at charades for awhile now. Weird huh?"
"So what do you want to make for dinner."
"Soup, easy and quick you know. I got most of the ingredients, you go down stairs and grab some of the canned meats." He nods his head. He goes down stairs, it was pretty barren. But when he turned on the lights it told a different story. In the corner was Vulcans full set of armor, and her layout. In the months they've been here. Vulcan had let Carolina work on it. Below it was a glass case, in it was her tomahawk they found in the freelancer warehouse, early in their adventures. He grabbed a couple cans from a rack and went back up stairs.
Rest of the night was uneventful, after an hour dinner was made and on the dot came Dylan and her friend. They were out of their armor and in regular clothes, Dylan appeared as a middle aged asian woman while Jax was much younger. He was probably about 20, 25. He wore a shirt that said 'explosions: the movie'. Sarge would probably like it.
"How was your walk?" Vulcan said as she put a couple bowls of soup.
"It was fine." Dylan said taking a seat. He took a sip and after a few seconds of silence Dylan spoke once again. "I did meet your father."
"And."
"He misses you."
"I have to leave." Vulcan got up from her seat.
"Is she alright?"
"She just misses her father, he wanted her to come back to Earth and she didn't want to. She wanted him to come with us."
"Sorry." Rest of the night was quiet, Vulcan came back. Her tears dried and then they finished up their meals, answered a few questions before heading to bed. Everything was packed and ready. Vulcan laid outstretch on the bed.
"So got to ask. We really doing this?" Rogers asked as he pushed Vulcan to the side
"Hell yeah. Why wouldn't we?" Rogers didn't answer, an odd sense of nostalgia came over. It was going to be dangerous, but shit what isn't dangerous. Rogers kissed his wife and went to sleep. Rogers and Vulcan were fast asleep when they were awaken by the sound of a tank.
"AAHAHAHA were under attack!" Rogers scream. "Wait?" Rogers looked out of the window and saw Sarge driving a tank. "God damn it Sarge."
"I'll make breakfast. Just get dressed." Vulcan said with a sigh. After breakfast was made and Rogers had put on his armor, they met everyone by Dylan's ship. They had gotten their just in time to, Wash was addressing all of the Reds and Blues.
"Alright listen up, we're splitting up, attacking this from both flanks. Carolina and I will be checking in with former Project freelance to see what we can learn. The rest of you, with the help of the press, will locate the source of Church's message. Now enough words, we leave in 10 and remember-look who decided to show." Grif came walking by.
"Where have you been soldier?"
"Thinking?"
"Yeah right."
"Nah, he just been thinking about food."
"No, well yes but I quit."
"Quit what?"
"You."
"Huh?"
"All of you. I quit, I'm not going. I'm staying here."
"What?! You can't quit. That's not allowed."
"I can do whatever I want. I am not in the military anymore. I should have quit years ago."
"What about Church?"
"Let it go Caboose, all of you. He's been resurrected more times than Jean Grey. It's getting old."
"Seriously dude, you've always been selfish but this is bullshit."
"I don't like you. Any of you, but we've all known each other long enough that you should hear it from me first. I'm done." And just like that he walked away.
"He-he can't-" He began to fumble his words. Caboose seemed crushed Out of pity she put her hands on his shoulder as he let out a sniff.
"Forget it Caboose." Vulcan said sadly. "Come let's go." Everyone just left to the ship. Vulcan had put down a cot and began to rest, the journey was long and hard. For the next few days they were in a continuous Jump and when they reached the planet. They found it abandoned, but the scars of the great war were still fresh and ran deep.
"Alright we're going down to the surface. Hold onto something." Dylan said over the intercom. The ship shook for a minute but everything returned to normal after words and they landed in the city.
The group wandered around the dead city for while, it gave Rogers the creeps. They soon found a couple of satellites and then they found the main one. Rogers stood guard with Vulcan at his side.
"Yeah that's it." Dylan said aloud.
"It's just like the others?"
"More or less, I understand what it does but not how. This and the other relays beacons obviously have been bouncing Church's signal until it was picked up by Chorus, but these components, I can't even tell what this is."
"It's a bop-it." Vulcan called out.
"A-what?" Dylan said confused.
"A bop-it, you know. The kids toy, Caboose had one."
"Yeah I bop it against a rock. Now he's sleeping...in. Tiny pieces." Caboose said. Dylan nodded her head and looked at the the aray. She spoke aloud, Rogers didn't think it was directed towards them at all but rather her thinking out loud.
"So someone is building experimental tech, out of kids toys?" It didn't make much sense, best Rogers could guess was that these people. Who ever they are are scraping from the bottom of the barrel.
"Can you still do your trace with your AI?" Simmons asked the woman. It took a moment before Dylan realised she was being spoken too.
"Yeah." She nodded her head. "Same as before. It'll take some time so in the meantime-" Dylan was quickly cut off by Tucker.
"In the meantime we look around the city. See if we can find any clues."
"Or, since this place is spooky I think it would make a great spot for a horror movie..." Jax began to go on a tangent about a horror idea he had. Roger turned to Vulcan. He couldn't help but smile, she was in civilian clothing or somewhat. Rogers wasn't stupid, right before they went into hiding he bought a bunch of stuff. One of the stuff he bought was a pair of clothing. It was made for diplomats, it was bullet and could help protect against a grenade blast. It was this beautiful blue dress with a black skirt.
"He's right."
"What this place would make a great horror moive location."
"No. Well yeah but I mean Tucker was right. We...I should go out and help look for clues."
"Wait what do you mean 'I'."
"I obviously can't take you with me."
"Like hell. I'll be fine. It's better than sitting on my ass."
"There's something out there." Sarge said. Rogers and Vulcan turned their heads to listen to the old man. "There's something in the shadows. Something...evil." What Sarge said was off putting. It didn't help where they were at either. Rogers couldn't help but let out a gulping sound.
"Alright you can come with."
"Baby." Vulcan teased.
"Don't start."
"Don't start Sarge. Last thing we need is our guys freaked. Last time Caboose was scared he mined the whole base."
"I thought the crooked man was going to eat me." Caboose shouted.
"We really shouldn't have watched Insidious with you."
"Every Church might've left some clues behind. So while we wait we should take a look around."
"Yeah, I've been think about that and from my numbers it's going to take atleast 17 days to search the urban area alone."
"So that's why were going to split up."
"You're all doomed." Sarge said plainly. "This city's haunted. I can feel it."
"Wait what?" Caboose said, he began to tremble. Sarge was starting to get to him and Vulcan, nor Rogers could blame him.
"Don't listen to him. He's just pardoned because he hasn't been sleeping."
"Ungrateful-" Rogers only rolled his eyes at his superiores actions. He's had the insane idea that Dylan and Jax were going to slit their throat as they slept so he refused to sleep, he's been up for 5 days straight. Rogers played along with Sarge's delusions but he trusted Dylan. Atleast trusted her not to cut his and Vulcans Throat. Other than that he didn't trust, she was keeping secrets. That much he was sure.
"Alright people lets go." Tucker said.
"Oookkk but what if he um stay together." Caboose said, Sarges words struck deep with him. He twiddled his thumbs and shook. Vulcan went up to Caboose and put her hand on his shoulder and spoke softly.
"Its alright Caboose, nothings is in the city..."
"Lavernius Tucker." A voice came out of nowhere, as if it was carried on the wind.
"Fuck." Tucker still insisted they venture into the city. To look for something. Everyone went on their own separate paths except for Rogers and CUlcan they ventured into the city with each other, after making sure their weapons were fully loaded and they had ammo for days that is. Rogers and Vulcan chose to venture towards the old mall. It was as good as any place to start. Vulcan herself doubted she herself they would find anything useful. As they grew closer towards the mall the place seemed to be a parody of itself. Dead grey being retaken by lively green. People always wonder what would happen to our cities if we up and left them one day and it wasn't hard to see this was a good example. She felt bad though, skeletons littered the roads and seemingly choked the ground she walked. Just the amount of bodies, she felt like she disrespected the ground she walked.
"You I actually heard about this place before. This place was a pretty big colony before the war."
"My Mother fought over here."
"Was this the?"
"No, second to last. But much farther away." Rogers and Vulcan walked in silence until they reached the mall. The front doors were rusted, glass shatter. It's been so long, the glass wasn't even there. It had been stepped on so much it was crushed into sand, to ash. Vulcan and Rogers just kept moving. The stores were long looted, though she highly doubt the looters kept on their ill gotten goods for too long. Vulcan saw an old toy shop and ran into it. The room was dimly lit but for the most part it seemed like the goods were still here. Some objects were moldy, and had rotted away to the point there was nothing. But she looked at the stuff in the plastic bags. Legos, some stuff animals. "You know we didn't really get a lot toys for the baby's room."
"Guess your right. Though a lot of these seem."
"Gross."
"There you go." Rogers said.
"You know there might be some stuff in the back room. I'll go check it out."
"Wait we don't know if-"
"All the aliens are dead and the wild life on this planet never surpasses a class 3 danger level. That's a rabid dog bite a worst."
"Just don't run and watch your step. This place is coming apart at the seams." Rogers said to his wife as he began to call Tucker.
"What is it?" Tucker asked.
"Me and Vulcan checked out the mall and. There's nothing here."
"Alright come-hey I'll call you back." As Rogers turned off his radio he heard a ear splitting scream and it was coming from the back. Rogers ran to the back and found his wife on her knees weeping.
"Emma. Are you alright?" She didn't answer, instead she just kept crying and Rogers saw what had brought her to tears. He saw a couple of skeletons but they weren't that of an adult. "Come on. Lets go." Rogers told his sobbing wife. She began to sniff and hugged Rogers. They left the mall but before they did Rogers watch his wife put a teddy bear in the child's hands. They soon left, Rogers holding his wife. "You alright."
"Yeag. You broke down in there. Though I can't say I blame you."
"When I saw the bones I could only think of our child."
"Shoo it's alright." As they went they heard someone yelling. "Wait here." Rogers told his wife as he ran towards the yelling. Here he regrouped with Tucker and Jax. "What's happening." Rogers asked.
"Caboose I think he's in trouble." They soon came up to where Caboose was. Rogers saw a strange man, he wore a even stranger helmet. Rogers aimed his gun at the man. "Caboose!" And Rogers saw it. Sarge, SImmons...Caboose they all laid motionless on the ground.
"Bastard!" Rogers screamed.
"So your Lavernius Tucker?"
"What do you want!?" Tucker yelled.
"Hey its that guy."
"You know this guy?! And you didn't tell us." Rogers yelled.
"Um."
"I'm going to kill you." Tucker yelled at the man.
"Lavernius Tucker." The man said again.
"Ggrr. That's the last name your ever going to say." He pulled out his sword and the man didn't even flinch.
"No. No violence. I am not here to fight."
"Bullshit." Rogers said, keeping his SMG locked on the man.
"I did not touch them. That one I found sleeping." He pointed to Sarge.. "That one fainted when he saw a small snake and that one." He looked over to Caboose. "And that one is playing dead."
"Is he gone yet." Rogers actually looked shocked, he holstered his gun.
"I did not come here to hurt anyone. I came to serve."
"Who do you serve?" Tucker asked.
"You."
"Did um, did um Chorus send you?"
"Yes."
"Awesome, I save their planet and I get a servant. My own personal bodyguard manservant."
"So you are Tucker."
"Fuck yeah." The man jumped down and handed a vanilla envelope to Tucker. Out of curiosity Rogers walked up to see what it was.
"You been served." Rogers picked up the papers to see what they were and his eyes widen. Child support claims...a shit ton of them.
"Fuck dude, these are child suport claims."
"What no. Junior has a basketball scholarship. Whos the damn mom."
"I said claims." Rogers said as he looked down a list of names. "This is a class action lawsuit."
"From a collect of new mothers on Chorus. They demand recompense for the children you sired before fleeing." Rogers bursted out laughing.
"I told you the Temple would bite you in the ass. HAHA!"
"This is not how I saw this going." Dylan said. Rogers kept laughing.
"Fare well, none of you shall ever see me again unless I am to serve you. Actually is there a Emma Vulcan. She is being sued by for the pain and suffering he endured when they were in basics."
"No. I don't think shes here."
"Good bye then. My name is Spencer Porkinsenson and I live to serve." With that he left. Huh.
"That was weird." Rogers said. Everyone, except Tucker who was crying shrugged their shoulder and left. Caboose was the first up, Rogers went over to Sarge and helped him to his feet and Dylan got Simmons.
"God, I know he's in power armor but how does he weigh." Dylan's said.
"He's a cyborg remember. Sarge used a lot of metals instead of plastics. Thought it looked cooler, which it kinda does actually does."
"Can you trade me then? Sarge should be a lot less heavy."
"And what happens if he wakes up." If Rogers didn't hammer his point enough, in Sarge's tired delusions he began to ramble on about Jax and Dylan being assassins. Dylan didn't answer, she just began to drag Simmons back to the ship. As he kept moving he found Emma sitting on the ground.
"Was everything ok?" She asked as she saw her husband carry.
"This? Aw its nothing. Sarge just passed out and Simmons fainted because of a snake."
"What happened then?" Vulcan asked. Rogers only began to smile, though it didn't show because he wore a helmet.
"Oh your going to love this." Rogers began to retell the story as but something from the shadows caught his eye and for a second he stopped telling his story.
"You alright?"
"Yeah just I thought I saw something."
"Yeah, this place does that to you." Rogers resume his story and as they got onto the ship and left three figures came from the shadows. They all looked liked the Reds and Blues, or more specifically Rogers, Sarge, and Vulcan. The man who looked like Rogers took out a comm device. He spoke in a thick, Utahn accent.
"The Reds and Blues are on the move. They should be arriving in a day."
"Good. Temple out."
A day had passed and the group were at Armanda 8, Rogers and Vulcan looked out the window. The planet was large and dusty, near the poles was deprived of ice and only a few and small pockets of vegetation existed on the planet. They went down and enter atmo. Dylan landed the ship just out outside this little valley. Rogers and Vulcan went with the group towards the valley. There was a weird sense of deja vu, there was a base in the canyon. "Looks familiar eh." Rogers said.
"You could say that again." Simmons said.
"Why when you leave Blood Gulch for a few years and it falls to pieces."
"Holy shit he's right." Vulcan said. It was different and at the same time it looked liked it. There were bases, even the ridge where Caboose killed Church.
"Huh, I hid a stash of whisky. Wonder if that's there too." Rogers joked.
"Not so fast." Sarge said. "I smell an ambush. High cover, a small area to retreat. Classic kill zone."
"Huh." Vulcan said. "I think a few of us should head back to the ship then. Me, Donut and Jax."
"Why me?" Jax asked.
"Do you want me to answer that. Dylan has some combat experience and a she knows krav maga."
"Hate to agree with Sarge but he's right. You should air on the side of caution."
"You mean err-"
"Finish that sentence I'll kick you in the nuts."
"Don't you mean the bolts." Rogers said snickering.
"Look, point is we should send a um? What's the word I'm looking for?"
"Scout?" Simmons said.
"I was going to say sacrifice but scout works too. We need for some to check to-"
"Hello!" Caboose said calling out. "Is anyone out there." He called out.
"Well fuck." Rogers said. "V, get back to the ship alright."
"Got it." Vulcan began to walk out with Jax and Donut when suddenly a new voice called out. It had the same doppiness as Caboose but it also was different. Whether it was out of curiosity or fear Vulcan stood where she was. Caboose and the equally as Caboose person spoke and what she saw nearly made her drop her jaw in surprise. A new person came out from behind a rock. It looked like Caboose. Caboose and Not Caboose went up to each other. Vulcand keeped her side arm at the ready but Rogers stood in front of her.
Rogers keeped his Smg at the ready, seeing another Caboose made him uneasy. He listened in to Caboose's conversation. "Hello. Have we met?"
"Funny I was going to ask you the same thing."
"Huuuh."
"I don't huuuh."
"Ow, why don't you tell me about yourself?"
"I have a best friend even though he yells at me sometimes. Also whenever I get confused I just say neat."
"Holy fuck there's two of them." Rogers said. Last thing he needed was another army of clones to fight. This wasn't star wars after all. Caboose and Not Caboose kept talking until Rogers got a bit fed up.
"Ask him if he's alone?!"
"Why do you look alone?" Caboose asked the doppleganger.
"Close enough." Rogers mumbled under his breath.
"I'm not alone. My friends were going to throw you a surprise party." Rogers grip tightened.
"Dang it Loco." A vaguely Sarge voice called out. "You ruined it."
"Surprise!"
"We're coming out, don't shoot." Rogers watched as several soldiers all looking like the members of the Red and Blue team came out. Rogers watched as a group of men who looked like Sarge, Donut, Lopez, Simmons, Tucker and Rogers came out. As they came closer Rogers turned to his wife.
"I'm not drunk right?"
"Nooo. Your not. I'm seeing this too."
"Who in Sam blazes are you and why are you dressed like us?"
"Ease up compadre that's for the boss to explain." The Sarge look alike said. Each of them turned their attention to the ridge and out came Church or atleast a guy who looked like Church.
"Mother-" Vulcan started.
"Fucker." Rogers finished.
"Brother in arms, we greet you with open."
"You're not Church." Caboose yelled.
"Huh, but I didn't." Before he could finished Caboose cut him off again.
"Why do you dress like him?" This time it seemed like he teleported right behind the Church fake.
"Perimeter breach. Drop your weapon." The man pointed a gun at Caboose and out of instinct everyone raised their weapons at the group.
"Get that gun off my team mate you redneck." Tucker said.
"Don't you point your weapon at Sarge you dirty blue." Simmons said.
"Simmons when did you switch teams?" Rogers asked as he pointed his weapon at the Maroon soldier.
"That's not me I'm over here." Rogers turned his head and literally next to him was Simmons.
"Oh...well now I feel like a jackass."
"Everyone can we please take a fucking chill pill. Gene, Surge lower the guns."
"Yes sir." As the men lowered their weapons more of the Blues are Reds came out. Vulcan watched as a women, who wore icy blue armor and a man who looked alot like Dan came out as well. Everyone stared at their counterparts for awhile until not Church spoke once again.
"I must must apologize this is so strange. I just can't believe you're all finally here."
"Alright, so your big fans. Can't blame you there but that's no reason to go around cosplaying as us." Tucker said.
"Yeah, I mean I've made jokes about fucking myself but this is just damn creepy." Dan said.
"You know homosexi-"
"Shut it Denny." Not Church said. "Sorry about him, he has a bit of a religious chip on his shoulder usually keeps his mouth shut- Point is where not dressing up like you. We're like you."
"Yeah I wouldn't say that, I've never been one for god myself." Dan said.
"Not exactly like you. We're Sim trooper from Project Freelancer. We were stationed here in this gulch."
"I don't know, it's just too weird." Vulcan said looking at her counterpart.
"It's true girly." The women in Icy blue armor said.
"It's just hard to believe Simmons said cutting in. You guys have a Sarge, a Donut a Vulcan."
"Knione."
"Huh?"
"My name is Knione."
"Eep."
"Don't worry boy oh, I don't like guys. So you won't have to geek out whenever I talk to you."
"How did you-"
"Please, Gene was the same. BT dubs they're Surge and Cronut."
"What are you going to tell us next, you got a spanish speaking robot?" Simmons said sarcastically.
"What no...he speaks Italian. Come on you gumba say something."
"[By the way everyone she's just supper racist, essically towards Russians and do not let her near a open bar. God she makes Mel Gibson look kosher.]"
"Moving on, I'm Temple and last but not least that's Bucky. I'm sort of the leader of this little group of misfits." He motioned every single one of them. "We call ourselves the Blues and Reds."
"Eh." Vuclan cringed at the name.
"No kidding." Rogers said, Temple just glared at the two before turning his attention back to the much larger Reds and Blues. "With that all out of the way...how the about the fuck we get out here. It's not safe above ground as about now."
"We came here, expecting to find Church." Tucker became visible upset and Rogers couldn't blame him. "Not ab bunch of knock offs. So why don't you tell us what's going on? And we can decide whether or not to kill you or not."
"Wow Tucker!" Vulcan had a horrified look on her face. "We don't kill random people. What's gotten into you."
"Now now we can settle this..." Temple stopped mid sentence. Something appeared to have bothered him. He looked at the sky, Vulcan, Donut and a couple of others looked to the sky. Trying to see what he was looking at. "Can we do this in a safer place."
"Not happening dude." An over all uneasiness came over Vulcan, ever since she got knocked up whenever something really bad was about to happen she got sick. Call it a six sense.
"Tucker, I think we should listen to him. We're out in the open."
"Vulcan stand down and let me talk."
"Why don't you start with all the attacks." Dylan said.
"I'll start at the truth. The UNSC. The same military you enlisted in, the ones who sold your lives and souls to Project Freelancer. Well that apperenly wasn't enough for them, they're going around killing everyone involved in the project." Everyone seemed to be taken back.
"That can't be." Vulcan said. "You're suggesting they're killing Freelancers?"
"Just the tip of the iceberg. It's everyone. Agents, Sim, techs, pilots, janitors."
"But why?" Donut asked.
"I don't know if it's some splinter cell, or some four star bureaucrat sweeping us under the rug before he runs for office but the situation is the same we only risked coming here because we knew you were close, and we had warn you."
"And how does Church play into all of this? The beacons, the cover ups?"
"We think he's their prisoner, I don't know where they have or how long but they do. We've been gathering intel about our enemies and we came across the transmission in one of our networks. We built these relays to get in contact. We thought you'd like to know." Tucker was silent for a full minute before turning to Dylan.
"So Dylan, are these or are these not the guys who tried to kill you in Sidewinder?"
"I believe they are."
"We what?!" Temple yelled, he faced some of his soldiers. One of them being the Vulcan clone Khione, Bucky and Sarge.
"It's Bucky's fault." Gene said.
"You were the one who shot first."
"You gave me the order to shoot."
"I meant shoot like 'Damn that girl is fiiinnneee' not shoot shoot. And no matter you still should have aired on the side of caution."
"How many time do I have to tell you it air on the side of caution."
"He's right it is err." Simmons said
"Don't encourage him, I don't need two of you correcting me." Rogers said.
"But we realised we fucked up and just ran away, and they attacked us with that maniac bounty hunter." Gene said.
"Wait that bounty hunter was with you?"
"Temple, even if what you saying is true it's Chorus that paying the price for your attacks."
"Chorus? That old news lady. The peace talks weird. Chorus is fine. We have a new strategy anyways. A-"
"Sir?" Vulcan began to get sick again. So much so she puke on Jax's shoe.
"Gross."
"Emma!" Rogers ran towards his wife. "What's wrong?"
"Something bad."
"She's right proximity alert just went off, we got-Incoming."
"Incoming what?" Rogers asked.
"Bad guys." Rogers spun around and over the canyon walls he saw UNSC fighters.
"Run!" Temple screamed. Everyone did just that, they ran towards one bases in the canyon. Rogers huddle his wife, she wasn't the fastest but weren't last either and he wasn't going to let her get hurt. Rockets slammed into the dirt at their feet. Bullets licked their heels. A large explosion happened in front of them. This caused the two to turn from the group. They ran towards one of the little outcroppings. Maybe there was a cave they could hide in. But this wasn't like Blood Gulch. They ended up being cornered. Rogers stood in front of his wife. As the fighter appeared to warm up their weapons Vulcan fell to the ground, clutching her belly. Rogers rushed over to her. Her breathing was hard.
"Is the baby..."
"No." The ship just powered down and it appeared it was going to land but a rocket slammed into it. Rogers was quick to shield his wife. The explosion was small, the was quick to fall to the ground. Vulcan was still in pain. The fighting had stopped, he picked Vulcan up and rushed back to the base. Everyone seemed to be alright.
"Dan where-" Tucker stopped mid sentence. Rogers didn't even care he called him by his first name. "What happened was?"
"No just false contractions. She had them before."
"If you need to set her down there's a table inside." Rogers went inside and laid her down on a holo table. Jax, Dylan and Caboose came by.
"I knew Tucker was going to spread pregnancy. I just didn't realise how long it could lay dormant. We probably need to start a quarantine."
"Caboose she didn't catch pregnancy from Tucker. If she did Tucker would be dead."
"She'll be fine." Dylan said.
"Do you have kids ."
"I had a friend." Rogers nodded his head.
"I should have made her stay. That much is certain, but the UNSC. They're hunting us. How long would have we stayed back on the moon."
"There's more to the story, we've just scratched the surface." The trio soon left and the man, Denny came over.
"I can say a pray for you if you like."
"Thank you." Like Rogers said, he and Vulcan weren't religious but he liked the sediment. When he left Vulcan laughed.
"You that worried about me.
"You fell down while we were getting shot. Can you blame me. So is the pain gone."
"Yeah, but. I'm going to need a doctor and soon."
"I saw the guys gathering up outside. Should probably talk to them." Everyone was doing the reports, Donut and Cronut were walking back.
"Alright let's pack up people, we're leaving. You all can come with or not. The UNSC is sure to be sending reinforcements any minute. The surface is no longer safe."
"Why do you keep saying surface?" Dylan asked.
"Yeah I've been wondering about that? Do you guys live in the caves like Sarge did back home?"
"Huh, let me show you. Just follow me." Rogers looked over to Tucker.
"You heard the man. Let's get out of here." Tucker said. The group went back into the base. Surge and Gene moved some objects ove of the way to reveal a hidden wall. There was the sound of something unlocking which revealed a manhole and latter. Denny and Cronut went down first. All the Reds and Blues were hesitant but Tucker was the first to go down the latter, then Sarge who carried Lopez's head under his arms and his body parts on his back. Rogers followed suit. When slid down the latter and found they were in some weird tunnel system.
"We keep the power off to save it for the base but." Surge lifted up a light switch and the tunnel lit up. Rogers could see a large tram system that reminded him of a subway. "It'll take a minute so I recommend you load up."
"Ug. I told Caboose he should carry me on his shoulder but he told me he just didn't want to get pregnant. I think he just lied so he wou..ldn't. Are we in a subway?"
"I guess we are. Come on Surge said we need to load up."
"Where do you think it leads?"
"Probably a super awesome, secrete kickass base." Rogers said with a grin.
"Yeah there might even be the bat car." The two chuckled going into the subway car. Everyone began to pile. There wasn't a lot of room. By the looks of it it seemed like it was an old civi transport. After the last of the Reds and Blues and Blues and Reds came in Loco. He went to the conductor part. Vulcan watched as he did some safety checks before they began to take off. It was fast but something they were going to be here for awhile. Vulcan faced Khione, she watched her take off her helmet. She had fire red hair that almost matched Rogers armor, her eyes were green, as green as Rogers right eye. "So how longs the trip."
"About an hour." Khione said. "So you two are a thing?"
"Yeah." Vulcan tapped her belly happily."Aren't you two-" Denny and Khione looked at each other and gagged.
"No no. She's a dy-"
"Lesbian and when he found out he tried to drag me into his little cult."
"Cult!" The two began to argue for ten minutes before Temple got fed up and yelled at them to stop. Vulcan closed her eyes. After awhile Rogers shooker her awake. As to be expect doing this to a pregnant women is not ideal but when she saw the base she nearly gasped. The track walls soon turned to glass and she could see they were underwater.
"Wow." The subway slowly slowed down until they reached a complete stop at a tram station. Temple ran head, Surge lead them out of the subway and towards a much larger complex. It seemed like it was made for one of the underwater worlds.
"While we are here we are safe." Caboose being Caboose began to run around his new home, pointing out everything he loved about it. He came across a rather odd looking contraption. When he ran into the room marked danger Vulcan rolled her eyes and everyone went to follow him. "Whoa whoa. I wouldn't touch that if I were you. Wouldn't want you getting hurt now would we. Speaking of people getting hurt this entire area is off limits"
"What is that thing?" Dylan asked.
"That's...how we stay hidden. It's a sort of cloaking device. Now, why don't you make yourselves at home. I do hope you'll be our guests this evening. We're having fish." The blues and reds followed their leader.
"Hey Khione I bet you wish we're having clam." Bucky said playfully.
"Ah fuck you."
"Follow me and I'll show your quarters." Gene said.
Several hours had passed since they arrived at the complex, Rogers and Vulcan were setting up their room. Vulcan didn't have much in the way of clothing, neither did anyone else. All their Civi stuff was back on the ship and it was too dangerous to get it. For know she was stuck with her shirt and pants. The two began to wander around the complex. It was amazing and from what Vulcan could tell it was a standard UNSC underwater colony hub. Light defense, mostly used to keep the native water life away. The view of the open ocean was beautiful, many large creatures swam in the waters. They found Dylan and Jax talking to Sarge, they listen in. Sarge was being paranoid as usual, they tried to get his name. They kept getting stonewalled and they watched as they just got so fed up with it Dylan yelled at Jax to cut the camera. Simmons and Sarge still stood by. Rogers walked up. "I could have told you he wasn't going to give you his name."
"So you guys don't even know his real name?"
"I only know like a letter." Vulcan said.
"And I told her that letter. Some things are to just impossible to learn."
"I have to try." Dylan said.
"And I'm not complaining. Unless you give him anything short of a diamond plated nuclear rocket launcher your not going to get his name."
"Hehe." Vulcan laughed.
"What?"
"Look they got a bizarro doc." Everyone turned their heads to look over at the purple clad medic.
"Hey you!" Rogers called to the Doc clone.
"What's your name? Moc?"
"Rogers? Vulcan?" The two were taken back, it sounded like Doc. "You guys know me."
"Holy shit?!"
"When did you get here?" Rogers asked.
"Oh just hanging out."
"You know them?"
"Yeah, I've known them for year."
"Can elaborate?" Dylan asked.
"Wait who are these guys?"
"Ho they're just reporters." Vulcan said shrugging. "The girls Dylan and the idiot is Jax."
"Hey." Jax said all offended.
"No no she's right."
"Oh it's nice to meet you all and Vulcan you're pregnant! Do you know if it's a boy or girl?" She shrugged her shoulders.
"Well if you guys are staying I'd love to help deliver the bay. After Tucker gave birth I studied a bit more in how to deliver babies."
"Wait when did you do that?"
"Oh after the whole thing with Omega, I mean there wasn't a point in bring it up."
"Fair enough." The two began to talk, catching up and Tucker happened by. "Hey Tucker look."
"Huh, they got a bizarro version of Doc."
"No it's the real thing."
"Hey Tucker."
"You known, I gotta ask?" Simmons cut into the conversation. "Isn't weird that they're bootleg copies of us."
"Hehe, no it's kinda vice versa."
"Wait they're the originals?" Vulcan said.
"Yeah, they're like Ipod and your Zunes. Or they're oreos and you're the great value stuff at Walmart."
"Weren't we first?" Tucker said.
"Nooo, this is like several years before you guys."
"They're telling the truth, so far. When I was on Sidewinder I found evidence of a second blood gulch. It was tagged as 'Prototype' for some reason."
"Sidewinder. That's where you met the bounty hunter right?" Tucker crossed his arms.
"Yeah we crossed paths."
"Did that path say 'follow me to Lavernius Tucker'?" He started to become visibly upset. A slight growl could be heard in his voice.
"I didn't have anything to do with that."
"Yeah right, it made for great TV I bet."
"You bet your ass it did. I just wish we had a bit with a big old 'nnnnooooo' scream."
"Jax!"
"Nice, super awesome you guys. Simmons, come on let's go."
"I'm Gene. He's Simmons. I just came over to let all of you know the Blues and Reds are leaving for an errand but all of you should make yourselves at home while were gone."
"What are you guys leaving for?" Rogers asked.
"Are cloaking device is failing and we just need to pick up some parts from a unmanned rig."
"You guys could probably use us your 'shining star of hope'."
"Phtt haha. What the fuck was that dude." Rogers said laughing. "That's probably the cheesiest thing I heard all week."
"What? Temple-Never mind,"
"Well if you're offering then yeah. Sarge volunteered.
"Then count the rest of us in too."
"Well I think it's a great idea, I think I can-"
"Not you."
"Come on Simmons." Tucker began to leave. When he was out of view Rogers turned to Dylan and Jax.
"I wouldn't worry about him, but for know I'd recommend you just stay out of his way. I gotta go." Rogers began to run but V began to follow as well. "Vulcan...Emma. I need you to stay here."
"Dan don't give-"
"Last time you almost got blown up. If anything happened to you, let alone our child I would never forgive myself. Just stay here with Dylan until we get back." Rogers took off his helmet and looked her in the eyes. "For me?"
"Ok." He kissed his wife before leaving. Vulcan watched as he and the rest of her team left. "Well fuck." Vulcan turned to Dylan. "Well what are we waiting for?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're going to have a look around."
"I don't know-"
"You don't trust them either."
"They're still a mystery. You seemed to have taken a liking toward them."
"Maybe but I have a sinking feeling about them. I still feel sick, even after the fighters."
"What do you mean sick?" Jax asked.
"I don't know, after I got pregnant I got these feeling, every time something bad was about to happen I got sick. It's how I knew you guys weren't bad people. I didn't have a feeling."
"Ohhh this could be a Tv-"
"No and it would work better as a movie where a pregnant women gets feeling which it turns out it's her dead husband." Jax and Dylan looked at her. "I got bored. So look, they're going to be gone for a few hours. So till then we look around, you and Jax look together, they already don't trust you so splitting up will just make thing more awkward."
"Understood." Vulcan split up, the complex was huge. There were many rooms though they didn't have much in the way of secretes then she came up onto a dark alleyway and a lock door. There was a key pad, she put in 80085 but it didn't open. Damn that ussaly works with Tuckers stuff. She quickly tired 6969 and like before it didn't budge.
"Damn." Vulcan said. She heard someone walking down the hall and she hid.
"I see you." It was a raspy evil sounding voice. She held her beath and then it appeared. "BOO!"
"Ahh!" She nearly grabbed her tomahawk but saw it was just Jax.
"Asshole." Dylan came up running.
"Sorry I told him not. I thought he would have learned his lesson after Tucker punch him. Did you find anything?"
"Afraid not, well not true. There's this door but it wouldn't open. I put in several codes but I'm afraid if I try any more the system might alret them. Three fails ussaly do that. What about you guys?"
"Not much a few locked doors and computers, I was about to use my AI but."
"They're almost here. We need to get back up topside." Vulcan nodded her head. She, along with Dylan and Jax started to play cards as everyone came into the room. They carried several parts. Rogers had some scrap under his arm. Vulcan ran up to her husband and hugged him.
"How was the trip?"
"Pretty boring I think. We found Wash and Carolina."
"Really? Where are they?"
"Oh, they went to talk to Temple. So what about you. Do anything fun?"
"Nah just had a look around and talked with Dylan." He nodded his head and smiled.
"Well that awesome. I'm going to put this stuff down. Loco using it to fix the cloak." She waved goodbye.
"You didn't tell him?" Dylan asked.
"He trusts them. And he's bad at secretes when. Last thing I need is him letting something slip. Come and get me when you're ready to take another look around."
"I think you might be able to help out. I just word from my AI that some doors and computers were just unlocked." Vulcan looked at the Reds and Blues.
"How convenient." The trio found a nice secluded spot. Vulcan snagged a layout of the base from one of the tables, she discovered several hallways that were hidden behind doors that were locked. As they continued to talk in the corner of her eye she saw a man with Red armor. "I think they sent Sarge to spy on us."
"Yeah. he's going to make it hard to move around the facility but this does give me an idea." Dylan and Jax walked up to Sarge while Vulcan studied the map. As she looked up Khione was was waiting for.
"Hello Emma."
"Khione. Do you need something?"
"No no. It's just that someone tried to open the door and put in some of the wrong codes. I've just been asking around to see if anyone knows about it." Vulcan kept calm, but her stomach felt sick. She didn't let it show.
"Can't say I have. I was with Dylan and Jax most of the time when you guys were gone."
"Ok." As she began to leave she runed back to Vulcan. "Just remember...it was Pandora who opened the box that was never meant to be open. And it was her who realised sin, death upon the world. She closed the box before the last creature could escape. Hopelessness but in some version it was hope that was the last to escape but I like first one a lot better. It emphasizes the danger of opening something you were never meant to."
"Gulp." Dylan came out. "Where Jax?"
"Distracting Sarge. You don't have to come with." Vulcan knew she was right but feeling was getting worse. Something bad was going to happen.
"We need to do this, even if it's just to be sure." Dylan and Vulcan left, they came up to one of the doors that were locked. As they ventured further into the facility they came across several Blues and Reds.
"What are they doing here?"
"Keeping secretes." They snuck around, when ever coming around a corner Vulcan used her tomahawk to see was around said corner. She saw Bucky and Cronut walk down the hall they needed to go down. When it was clear they found themselves in the cloak room. Temple was yelling at Loco, his words weren't what she expected.
"I'm sick of them, so sick of them I could puke."
"I know. I'm sorry. I'm trying."
"Try harder fuckface. This should of been done months ago."
"Well the quantum capacitors are working but I still can't get the neutron dispenser to polarize the antimatter and I'm out of AA batteries." Vulcan looked confused, she wasn't a physicist but she knew what most of that stuff was. They were slipspace drive components.
"Shut up shut up shutup. I can't stand that techno babble. You couldn't just build me a fucking bomb like I asked for."
"Oh this is going to be much more better than just a bomb. It will be beautiful."
"Sir." Khione walked into the room.
"What is it."
"I can't find Vulcan."
"Oh her...don't get me started on the fat bitch. If this isn't done by the time she gives birth and I have to hear the cries of a baby I might just snap it's neck. Don't get me started on her husband. That fucking drunk. Oh I'm scared of being a dad because mine was dick." Vulcan eyes widen with fear, she moved back. Her hand brushed against a soda can. It tidder on the edge. She was going to grab it but Dylan grabbed her by the arm and rushed her out of the room. The metal rattled on the floor by the time they left. They ran full sprit, only keeping silent if they suspect one of the Blues and Reds were near. They ran into Vulcan and Rogers room. Vulcan franticly shut the door, locking it.
"What the fuck was that?" Vulcan said in a panic voice.
"I don't know."
"I mean. Fuck."
"We need to get this to Tucker."
"Agreed." Vulcan unlocked the door and nearly screamed. Waiting for them was Rogers, the real one. She could tell by the red visor.
"Emma? Are you alright?"
"No."
"What's wrong?"
"It's the Blues and Reds. There's something not right about them. Their cloak, it's not a cloak."
"Emma-"
"I need to talk to Tucker. Don't trust them." Dylan and Vulcan ran out. Rogers looked at his wife. Concerened.
"I won't."
It didn't take long. "Tucker we need to talk."
"Later."
"Tucker."
"I said later." He tried to leave but Vulcan grabbed his arm.
"I swear to god Tucker you will put aside your petty grievances and listen to what Dylan has to stay or so help."
"Talk." Vulcan let go and Dylan stepped up.
"Temple is not who he seems. I saw him with Loco, back by the cloak. Or so we thought. It's not a cloak but something else." She explained everything but Tucker wasn't convicted.
"Look I don't know what you guys saw but-"
"I was there with her. He threatened my child Tucker. You got to believe her. Temple is not the ally we thought he was."
"Look, you're probably right. They're not being fully honest with us but they've helped us. They haven't given me a single reason not to trust them."
"Then explain why they're keeping us in the dark."
"They're not. They left me incharge in planning their campaign against the UNSC." He pointed to several tv monitors.
"That's a videogame." Vulcan leaned in. "About the great war, wait my dad was in this battle."
"No it's a tatic sim."
"No that a video game."
"Huh explains the micro transactions."
"Can't you see they're distracting you. Where's Carolina and Wash?"
"Yeah, where they then?"
"They're out getting some food."
"She told you that?"
"Temple did."
"Doesn't that smell fishy to you?"
"Of course it's fishy."
"Figuratively Tucker. Almost all the doors around here are locked and I can't find a single computer that networked. If they were being so open why all the secretes"
"I wouldn't want a bunch of random people running around my house either, they might steal shit or something."
"And what if it's more than that? What if they're something they don't want us to see. You know what I don't need your help. I just thought you should know." Dylan walked away and Vulcan stayed behind if atleast a moment.
"Temples office." Tucker said with a sign. Vulcan smiled, she knew he didn't trust her but it seemed that was about to change.
"What about it?"
"He has a networked computer. I've seen it."
"Let me know what you find alright." When Dylan left the room Tucker turned to Vulcan.
"V if what you're saying is true I-"
"I'm going to help Dylan." She ran out and back towards Dylan. They went down the halls, towards Temple's office. The door was wide open. Vulcan closed the door behind them. Vulcan stood by the door keeping watch while Dylan walked towards the computer. She heard the pitter patter of someone typing on the keys.
"Vic."
"Vic?"
"I'll explain later."
"Yo yo yo. What's up?"
"Quiet. I need help."
"With what?"
"The computer."
"Understood." They began to talk for a few minutes. It got kinda creepy because Vic wanted to die but it had almost been a decade since Blood Gulch and AI, especially dumb ones don't do too well after a while and it was really evident by his mannerisms and glitchy speech. Lucky Dylan convinced him to go into a silent mode. For minute nothing happen and a video began to play. Vulcan, curious left the door and went to see what was happening, her jaw dropped.
"Dylan! Why am I not surprised." The two women turned around. In walked Temple, behind him was Surge. "And Vulcan, I am a bit more surprised on this one but no matter. I think it's about time we had a little chat." They pointed their guns at them, for some stupid reason Dylan and Vulcan ran but she as fast. Surge arm went her throat and gun pointed at her belly. She struggled but Dylan stopped moving. "One more step and she gets it. I wonder who will die, her or the baby. Maybe both." If it had been any other context Vulcan would told Dylan to run but, she felt almost like a coward for what she did next.
"Please Dylan." For a second she didn't move but Dylan then put her hands up in surrender. Surge let go of Vulcan and put mag locks around each of their arms and dragged them through the base to some cells. Jax was throw into a cell with them. Temple walked into the room and began to tell a story that was all too familiar. She told them how Tex and Carolina killed his best friend. She felt sorry for him but he had no right to do what he was doing.
"The time has come to kill the masters. The Freelancers to start but that's not where the story ends.
"Pretty good story Temple. Now tell me how would you feel about some constructive criticism?"
"Jax shut up."
"I mean if I'm going to be honest with you the whole 'pregnant girlfriend' and 'about to retire' is as cl-" Temple pulled out a pistol and pulled the trigger. Jax fell down to the ground clutching his knee. Vulcan closed her eyes, afraid.
"Years later the orders stopped coming in and we left the gulch looking for answers. We found them in an abandoned Freelancer Outpost. We discovered records showing that the very military we enlisted in had sold us like slaves to Project Freelancer. We were pawns in there game but the thing I love about chess...is that pawns kill kings." Those words echoed in her head even as he left the room. When the door slammed Vulcan rushed to Jax's side.
"Is he going to be alright?" Dylan asked.
"If I don't...if I don't make it I want you to-" Vulcan began to look over the wound. She took off his armor, there wasn't any bleeding but she could still see the but she could see the bullet. It barely penetrated the skin but it was in there.
"This is going to hurt." Vulcan said. "Count to three."
"One-Ahhh!" Before he could even make it two she plucked the bullet out. She quickly tossed it away.
"I don't have any bandages but-" She took off her shirt. To reveal she was wearing a pregnancy bra. She wiped away the blood and wrapped it around his foot. "This won't replace a real bandage but it will help."
"Thank you."
Rogers wandered around looking for Vulcan but then he got a message from Tucker. Telling him to meet up at a specific location. When he got there Tucker, Simmons and rest of the game save for Sarge. "Have you guys seen Vulcan?"
"Last time I saw her she was with Dylan but we'll look for her in a minute. We got other problems." Tucker said. "Okay guys listen up. Now, I don't want to alarm anyone, but I've put a lot of thought into our current situation. And I've come to the conclusion that something weird might be going on around here."
"[No shit sherlock]."
"Really? I don't know, everything seems pretty normal to me." Doc said.
"If everything's normal then where the heck is Carolina and Wash."
"Gene said Wash and Carolina went out to get shoelaces, and he made a long pause before he said shoelace."
"Oh god." Rogers said.
"What?" Doc asked.
"Can't you guys see something is wrong."
"Yeah, and Dylan was the only one who was looking into this."
"Oh the reporter she tied up in the basement." Donut said.
"She's what?"
"Yeah I saw her while-"
"Why didn't you say anything earlier. Vulcan could be with her."
"Sorry. Cronut told me they were remaking Pulp Fiction. And he said that Vulcan left to get some pregnancy pants. She had been complaining that her old ones were worn out."
"I really want to punch you in the teeth right now." Rogers said, growling, his ball forming into a fist.
"We need to figure out if the Blues and Reds are bad guys."
"How do we do that?" Simmons asked.
"With subtly."
"I don't care what it takes, let's find V, get Dylan and Jax and get the hell out of here." The RvB crew followed Tucker as he approached Temple.
"Are you guys bad guys."
"Jesus christ."
"Do not use the lord's name in vain." Denny yelled.
"No no let me explain. And that's a matter of perspective isn't it."
"Yup."
"No. What we're doing is right, for all of us. I though all of you could see that by now. We are simply planning to take revenge on those who wronged us...all of us. Those who turned us into training dummies for a super soldier program." Rogers stepped back, each one of the Blues and Reds started to check their weapons. His own team began to worry.
"Project Freelancer." Simmons said.
"We already dealt with them." Tucker yelled. Temple just laughed.
"No you're wrong about that. Everyone in this room was drafted or volunteered to fight for the UNSC...they sold us like cattle, the used us. They destroyed our lives and they haven't even paid for what they done. Don't you give a shit about that?"
"Eh."
"Water under the bridge." The Reds and Blues shrugged their shoulders but a familiar face out of the crowd. Sarge began to yell.
"Men don't you see this for what it is? It's an Opportunity to fight a war we possibly can't win. It's everything we possible wanted."
"Is it a pair a Scandinava twins on a water bed. Cause otherwise no."
"Boom chicka wow-"
"Shut up! Listen Temple you obviously love the sound of your own voice-" The wait got to Rogers. He went up putting a gun in Temples face.
"Where the fuck is my wife! Where fuck is Dylan and where the fuck is Wash and Carolina." Rogers screamed. He wasn't scared, at off the Blues and Reds pointed their guns at Rogers.
"You have interesting friends, your Freelancer buddies are killers, the reporters are little too noisy and Vulcan...well she's just as bad as her father. We just dealt with them accordingly."
"Backstabbing son of a bitch." Rogers said.
"Backstabbing? Take a look in the mirror! Your teams were used and beat up by Freelancers. Just like us and you made friends with them. Your teams were used and sold by the UNSC. Same as us and you posed for their fucking photo ops. You're the traitors, you're the villain, you fucking cockbites." Rogers was tempted to pull the trigger, but last thing he needs is to do something stupid.
"Why is everyone fighting? I thought we were friends?" Loco was screaming, it distracted Rogers enough to let Temple pull his SMG out of his hands and punched him right in the face. He wore a helmet but it was powerful enough to knock Rogers on his ass.
"Sorry but I can't let you kill me. I still have important business on Earth."
"Don't give a fuck, we're still going to kill you." Rogers said. He pulled out the pistol from his side pockets and pointed it at Temple. Everyone save Doc raised their weapons. Mexican standoff style.
"Hold your fire." Temple said camly. "Let's try this the easy way."
"Simmons, Lopez for the sake of their own safely I want you to arrest the Blues and Rogers under arrest."
"What?!" Simmons yelled.
"Stand your ground. We saved Chorus. We shut down Freelancer. We can handle a handful of Sim trooper clowns." Temple just laughed off Tuckers words. "You can't win. We're stronger than you. Just give in."
"You and what army?" Rogers said.
"So glad you asked."
"Reds assemble, Blues deploy."
"Glory! Our day of victory draws near. Surrender now or face our holy vengeance." Out came dozens of sim troopers, it was mostly made up of old grunts. From what he remember they were teenage gamers. Or acted like them, mixed with religious dogma.
"God damn, every time we say that they always end up having an army."
"Son of a bitch." Rogers said.
"As you can see, we haven't just been tracking down Freelancers. You know your teams ironically are the only other sim troopers are the only ones we haven't recruited. I did truly admire all of you once. So I'll offer you one final chance." No one moved, they kept their weapons aimed the the Blues and Reds but Doc ended up going walking over towards Temple.
"What the fuck Doc!" Tucker screamed.
"Give it up Tucker."
"What?! Doc we've been through so much."
"We sure have. You guys used me as a bargaining chip in Blood Gulch before you got bored and casted me out to live in a cave. Then you left me at the mercy of the Meta the you abandoned me in Valhalla and you didn't even noticed when I got sucked up into a alternate dimension." He quickly switched to the voice of O'Malley. "Nearly lost my mind." Just as quickly he switched back to his normal voice. "Sorry something in my voice. Nearly lost my mind."
"Wait when did that happen?" Simmons asked.
"My point exactly. You guys treat me like a leper. Just hopping sometime in the brig will teach you manners."
"Fuck it I don't need any of you." Tucker yelled. But before he could anything Simmons pulled his gun.
"Drop it Tucker."
"God damn it Simmons! You traitor!" Rogers yelled.
"You two Dan, all of you drop your weapons." He was taken back, none of the group. Rarely did any of his friends call him by his first name, save for Emma. Him and Tucker, as well as everyone else lowered their weapons. As much as he hated to admit he didn't want to hurt his friend, even if said friend was trying to arrest them.
"GG everyone GG." the red grunt said.
"Oh shut up." Rogers said, as he was taken down the hall.
"Come on son, lets go." Sarge said. No one sad a word. He looked behind him, Surge kept his gun raised at them while Sarge just lowered it. "This is for your own good, remember that. Dirty blues." He just shook his head and looked in front of him. While Surge and Sarge led the back, Simmons led the front of the prison march. When they reach the entrance to the prisons Tucker had enough.
"You assholes are unfucking believable."
"Quiet prisoner."
"We fought alongside each other for fucking years. How can you turn your back on us?"
"It's like Temple said. You're turning your backs on us. We got a war to win Blue, and until you're ready to play ball we're sticking you in the dugout. Only this dug out has steel bars."
"Yeah that's right." Rogers balled his fist at Simmons comment.
"You, Simmons. You're the worst of all. Didn't you hear a word in there?" Tucker said.
"I only heard my order you dirty blue." Simmons began to punch in the codes, as he was doing this Sarge began to tell the story of how he was recruited by the ODSTs. "Psst."
"Psst yourself."
"No psst, I'm really the good guy I'm just acting bad."
"Wait really?" Rogers eyes widen, that did explain a bit. Rogers let out a light sigh of relief, almost thinking one of his friend betrayed him.
"Yeah dude, those guys are as evil as fuck. I'd figure our chance of escape would be better if I played along."
"Oh." Rogers said. "That's actually pretty smart." Rogers said.
"Oh yeah! We're pretending we're the bad guys until you give us the signal. Simmons you're so smart." Caboose blurted out the entire plan at the top of his lungs.
"Fuck." Rogers said.
"Say what now." Sarge said.
"What did he say!" Surge pointed his gun at Simmons who tried to play it cool. That not being one of his strong suits.
"Oh um." Simmons didn't say a word as he too off. "Run!"
"Mother fucker!" Rogers, Caboose, Simmons, Lopez and Donut ran down the hall. There wasn't a lot of options to hide.
"Quick in here." Tucker turned a corner and Rogers was quick to follow. He ended up leading them into a storage locker of sorts by the look of it. "Damn it no locks." Rogers went up to the keypad and smashed it. Hopping that would delay Sarge and Surge.
"Great idea leading us to a dead end." Simmons said.
"It's not like there was anywhere else to go."
"Hey! I order you idiots to open this door this instance!"
"You don't get to order us around. You're on the bad guys side."
"..."
"We are so screwed!" Tucker yelled.
"Not entirely, they're probably something here we can use to escape. Just look around."
"Yeah like there might be something behind those torpedoes over there." Everyone spun around, near the back were some torpedoes and if there were torpedoes then there might be a launch hatch or something. Simmons ran up to them.
"These are the bases defence, long range too."
"How will that help? Can we ride them out?"
"No we're too big but-" Before Simmons could explain his plan the Blues and Reds started to cut into the room, it would be minutes they would get in. "Damn it! Even if I remove the warhead their will only be a basketball worth of space. Does anyone have paper."
"You want to write a note? That's a good idea."
"What else is there Rogers?" Lopez started to yell in spanish, pointing at the door. Rogers took off his helmet, his hair messy but that wasn't what was important.
"How big are our helmets?" Rogers asked.
"About the size of basketballs?"
"And Lopez, he uses the same armor model as us right?" Everyone looked to the robot.
"[Oh fuck]"
"Sorry Lopez...Caboose can you unscrew a jar of pickles for us please?" The door fell to the ground, Sarge and Suge came through.
"You know I expected a lot more from you guys." Sarge said. "I must say I'm kinda disappointed."
"What in the Sam Hell did you do your robot?" Surge asked.
"Hehe. About that." Rogers said with a wicked grin. It didn't take long before they walked down the halls once again, their hands bound by mag cuffs. Several other Blues and Reds, Denny and Kihone walked with Sarge and Surge.
"May god have mercy on your soul." Denny said as he threw him into a cell. Rogers just gripped the cells bars.
"You won't get away with this." Rogers screamed as the Blues and Reds left. Some of the guys sat down, giving up. Rogers just hoped, where ever Vulcan is, she's safe and sound. Several days woulds Rogers hadn't given up hope just that Vulcan was safe and she would be returned to his arms but after another day his hope turned to fear. It was hard to rest, for the first two days he didn't sleep. Fearing that the enemy would come through the door. He was half right about that. Three times a day a person would come in and deliver soggy bread and a cup of water would come in. Rogers was resting up against the wall. His eyelids were heavy. He barely kept awake as Temple came in.
"Howdy everyone. How are my fine guests doing?"
"Fuck you."
"Charming...Well gang I thought we should have a little chat before I bid my final adieu, after all our business together isn't quite finished is it?"
"You're goddamn right it's not." Tucker said.
"Lets try and be civil ok. We're all adults here, age wise atleast."
"Oh, if you think you're going to get away with this." Rogers said.
"Oh, still holding outing for a last minute rescue?" Temple spoke in an ultra insulting tone of voice. Coming up to Rogers cell. "Don't." Rogers was tempted to say something but fell silent as Grif slowly walked into the room. Rogers jaw dropped, as probably did everyone else's.
"GRIF!" Everyone yelled in unison.
"Everybody!" As he yelled it he actually seemed happy. He watched as he was placed in a cell next to Simmons.
"You got our message!" Simmons yelled.
"I did! There's so much I need to tell you!"
"It can wait." Temple told Grif.
"No. Not another minute. I'm sick of waiting. I'm sorry. I am so sorry everyone that I didn't come with."
"Shut up, please." Temple yelled.
"Caboose, I am so sorry I didn't help find Church. That makes me a bad friend."
"It's Ok, I know he's still out there."
"Ha ha ha, really? You think so."
"Stop." Tucker gritted his teeth.
"But I don't want to." He went to Caboose's cell. And even though he wore a helmet Rogers knew he probably had this shit eating grin. "Caboose? Would you like to hear Church's FULL message? We got the whole message right her. He talks about you."
"Really?" Caboose said happily.
"Don't." Rogers said. He knew something bad was about to come. "He has a child's mind." Rogers pleaded but Temple didn't say a word.
"Play it Loco."
"Control...control do you read us? This is Church from Blood Gulch Alpha." Church's voice came over an intercom for everyone to hear. "If you're getting this this is an emergency. You got to send a plumber as soon as you can. Tucker, Caboose and Vulcan flushed a grenade down the goddamn shitter. And it and it exploded. And it's everywhere. Oh god its on the walls. Send help. FUCK and three new recruits, I might just murder them at this rate."
"Its crazy what one can do with editing software now these days. What's the matter Tucker? Cat got your tongue. I'm curious, do you all remember that? Granted it happened a long time ago and in a gulch far far away. But still it must of been a memorable episode."
"I-I-I- He's back in Blood Gulch?" Caboose said.
"No! Goddamnit. WE. LIED. TO. YOU. He is dead."
"For now."
"NOO! Forever, how fucking stupid are you."
"Christ man lay off." Grif told Temple.
"What the fuck ever, he's an adult ok. Maybe if you didn't treat him like some baby he would understand something as simple as DEATH. As in...GONE FOREVER."
"I'll happily give him a real world example if you unlock this cell." Tucker said.
"Oh oh, what a master plan."
"So you changed his message so we would come looking for you?" Caboose said sadly.
"There you go, I can't take all the credit though. Loco help with the scrambling."
"I'm sorry but we can still be friend." Loco said.
"No you can't." Temple only belittle the man. "This is goodbye my friends, today war tomorrow victory." Like the arrogant prick he was Temple bowed before his entourage left. The second the door closed Rogers looked to Caboose. He sat in the corner of his cell saddened. He let out a heavy, long sorrow filled sigh.
"Gone, gone...just like Simmons said on that scary planet. I never got to say goodbye, or thank him for being my best friend."
"They'll pay for this, I promise I'll make them pay."
"We all will." Grif said, everyone turned their attentioned to the man in Orange. Some had disapproving looks others didn't seem to mind. Rogers was the one that didn't mind. He was just glad his friend came back in the end.
"Shut the fuck up Grif, haven't you already done enough."
"Ease up dude, I did my best."
"Your best? You botched up the only chance of escape."
"No I didn't."
"You busted in her, made an ass of yourself and got caught. What do you call that?"
"Pretty fucking sweet diversion."
"Diversion?" Rogers said.
"Oh your going to love this. Locus is here getting-"
"Locus!" Everyone yelled.
"Sure alert the entire base will yeah."
"Right now he should be getting Wash and Carolina."
"And if he fails?" Donut asked.
"I hope you know how to make a five star meal using nothing but salt water, raters and plankton." Rogers gripped the bars of his cell. He never expected to see the day where he hoped Locus would save them. Little less then an hour had passed and there was still no sign of rescue.
"Well we're fucked." Rogers said aloud.
"You don't know that." Grif protested.
"It's been over an hour, usually in a situation like these the longer the clock goes the less likely rescue is. I'll bet you if someone that isn't wanting to kill us comes through that door I'll give you my secret stash of weed and whisky."
"Hot damn! Paper after rock. Brilliant move, I guess I shouldn't have expect anything less from a cunning, murderous, bastard like yourself."
"Please stop talking." Rogers eyes twitch, so many things right here were wrong. Sarge changing his mind this fast, Locus. Losing his five pound bag of weed and seven two liter coke bottle filled with homemade whisky! Locus took out his sword and slashed opened each of the cells. When he opened his Rogers looked in with aww.
"I never thought I'd see the day." Rogers said. Everyone excited their cells, they picked up weapons that Locus and Sarge had brought them. Rogers checked his gun, he watched as Sarge and Grif spoke to one and other.
"Sarge."
"Grif. Glad your um...back."
"Guess I should say the same to you."
"Well contrary to what you have heard I was secretly a good guy." Rogers smirked at his comment. "Now no need to thank me, please clap."
"Oh bull shit." Tucker said.
"Couldn't better myself." Rogers said as slung his new rifle over his shoulder.
"You just got done stabbing us in the back."
"Men, I...I...I order all of you to forgive me."
"Not happening." Tucker said.
"We can deal with this later."
"No! This Judas isn't coming with us. He can rot in a cell for all I care."
"That's a little much don't you think." Rogers said. "I'm haven't forgiven him. Doesn't mean I want to leave him here."
"Is it? Those fuckers lied to us about Church, imprisoned our friends and Sarge was serving tea and biscuits. They imprisoned your pregnant wife."
"I didn't know about any of that. Those devils blinded me. They uh, no. No I take that back. Men the Blues and Reds didn't blind me. I blinded myself. I wanted an enemy so bad I'd turn my friends into enemies and enemies into friends. My real enemy was within. I don't expect you all to forgive me immediately, but I hope I'll be able to re-earn the privilege of being your friend and I promise this will never happen ever again."
"I found this moving, made me let out a tear but can we move now?" Locus was annoyed and on the verge of yelling.
"Lead the way."
"Finally." Locus said no more as they ran through the base. For the most part it was empty.
"Your handy work?" Tucker asked.
"What do you mean?"
"You took care of everyone."
"No I didn't." They reached a living room like area. Dylan and Jax stood around while Wash and Carolina laid on a bed the only thing that was missing was Vulcan. "Trouble while we were gone?"
"None it's been quiet. Too quiet."
"Damn, what happened to them?"
"Forget them where's Vulcan." Rogers asked. "No offense."
"I'm fine, I'm almost ready to leave."
"No your not, and we need to leave."
"But where's Vulcan?" For a minute none of them spoke until Locus spoke up.
"I didn't find her with them." Locus said. Rogers heart dropped. "But the longer we stay here the greater the chance we get detected and you greater the chance you won't see her again."
"We didn't see anyone on the way here. Place was basically a ghost town."
"They must have moved out then and left a skeleton crew to guard the cells."
"In that case times awasting,"
"Not so fast we still don't know anything about their machine."
"Fuck that, it's time to get out of here. Not play Nancy Drew."
"All of this has been building up to something big and I don't think it's a press release. Jax and I are going to find out what it really is."
"Count me in." Grif said. For a second Rogers was shocked he was so quick to jump in.
"Did. Grif just volunteer for something?" Rogers asked dumbfounded.
"Same." Simmons stepped up. She has a point."
"Alright while you four go do your thing the rest of us will secure the exits."
"Decent plan." Locus said. "Considering." The A-Team ran off to Temples office and everyone else checked out the base. It was empty, so after Dylan and the rest came back they started towards the hanger. It was a long trek considering Rogers carried Wash over his shoulders, while Carolina refused help and insisted she can walk on here own. She limbed behind the group, and Vulcan, still missing made Rogers uneasy. It felt like a million years each step he took. The group were coming up onto the hanger, it seemed clear until a group of ironclad soldiers walked past the entrance. They took cover behind sever crates. They watched for several minutes. It seemed like most of Temples army was here. Explained why they hadn't come across anyone on the way here.
"Fuck." Tucker said under his breath.
"So much for an easy escape."
"Wait a second these aren't skeletons!"
"Its cool guys Locus can just call his alien."
"Its crowded with just two. We need that pelican."
"I'll cover you from here." Sarge said loading his shotgun.
Your shotgun has the effective range of two meters if anyone should provide cover its me."
"I thought you swore off killing?" Carolina said. Several members of the group began to snicker.
"Good one." Tucker said.
"I did swear off killing. But you don't need your knee caps to live."
"What about your alien ship? It's got weapons right?" Grif asked.
"Yes they're useful for splitting asteroids not really practical for indoor use. This is going to take some planning. If we play our cards right we won't have a need for violence."
"Fuck that." Tucker growled. "These son of bitches are our enemies and I want goddamn revenge." Before Locus could say anything else Tucker ran out and slashed a guy with his sword.
"Idiot." Locus yelled as he shot a guy in the knee. A huge firefight began. Rogers took cover and he fired. He held his breath before firing. A volley of bullets from a mounted machine gun forced him behind cover. He took out a grenade from his belt and hucked it over his head. It exploded killing several grunts. When thought it was safe to pop his head out a heavy machine gun began to fire on their position. Everyone tried to get a shot in, save for Locus none of them could get a kill shot. Locus when into his cloak and disappear.
"Alright everyone hold-Wash!" Rogers watched as a dazed Wash walked from the safety of cover and into the battlefield mumbling incoherently and then a bullet pierced his throat. He fell to the ground, everyone yelled.
"Cover me!" Sarge yelled. Caboose ran up next to him, Rogers not valuing his own safety instead favoring his comrades ran from his cover and to Sarge. "You two on me."
"Yes sir." Sarge ran from his cover, Rogers and Caboose close behind him. The two fired their weapons at anyone who dared to point their guns at Sarge. Sarge unloaded a round into the chest of a grunt, another one came around the corner. Rogers punched them in the face and stole their SMG. They ended up getting to the second level near the machine gun nest.
"Remember us maggots?!"
"The beast it has returned! The end is-" Rogers fired his gun killing the grunt before it could continue.
"Caboose do your thing."
"Raahh!" Caboose entered his rage scaring off a majority of the grunts. Rogers jumped down and rushed to Wash.
"This isn't good." Dylan said.
"Someone do something?!" Tucker yelled. Locus decloaked.
"Aranasia! Come." An alien drone flew by. "Help me get him on the ship."
"Where are you taking him?" Tucker asked.
"To the nearest hospital. He needs urgent care."
"I'm coming too."
"No...no room."
"Fuck that."
"The enemy already has a head start. If you plan on stopping them your men need you." The robot use a grav generator to carry Wash out. No one said a word as they headed towards the surface. They used the Perlican and stopped by the base in the canyon. Dylan said she needed to make a call. Rogers sat with Tucker, he was upset.
"Fuck me. Fuck all of this."
"This isn't your fault."
"Yeah well it feels like it. I mean they took your wife." Rogers looked down.
"Hey guys." Rogers watched as Dylan came over. "I got off the phone with a friend to get a look at Temple's machine."
"And?" Tucker asked.
"He said it shouldn't work."
"So all of this was for nothing then?"
"We still need to get Vulcan back though." Rogers said. "So any plans."
"Well there's the smart, go home with our tails tucked between our legs ooorrr-"
"GO IN AND KICK SOME ASS. No soldier left behind."
"Be serious, they could be anywhere in the galaxy."
"No...he mention Earth that's why he took Vulcan."
"How so."
"She once told me that the UNSC monitors all incoming and outgoing traffic. Make sure nothing gets on that shouldn't but sometimes somethings shouldn't get recorded. So they have codeword that allow ships to pass freely." Rogers said.
"So that means they're anywhere on Earth." Tucker said. "It narrows it down but that's much better."
"Maybe they left behind some clues. Jax what do you have in the way of footage?" Dylan asked.
"Welllllll." Rogers jaw dropped as they stood in the editing room of Dylans ship. They were fast forwarding through much of Jax's footage.
"How much is there?" Simmons asked.
"About two hundred hours."
"You've been filming non stop for eight days?"
"Well yeah. How else would I get non stop awesome."
"Stop right there, what is that?"
"That's nothing. I was chasing a moth around. Y'know kinda going for a Terrence Malick vibe. Then I stumbled into this room packed full of charts."
"Charts?"
"See right here." He started to fast forward by several minutes until they came across this island in the pacific.
"Are they planning a vacation?"
"That close to the arctic?" Simmons said. "I doubt."
"Those islands have zero importance to the UNSC."
"Ok everyone. I hoped it wouldn't come to this but you know that AI assistant I mentioned."
"Your dumb AI? What about it?" Carolina asked.
"He spent a bit of time in the Blue and Red network, so he might have some useful information."
