Chapter 6
I don't own anything, just playing with some else's toys. I don't promise not to break them, actually I plan to break a few. Very sorry about the delay between this and the last chapter. First my mother needed heart surgery and was borrowing my laptop to watch movies while recovering in hospital, then my work has been a pain as usual leading up to the festive season including transferring me across the country two days before christmas. Hopefully I can get back to more regular posting, no promises. I do have bits and pieces of the next chapter completed already. I just need to put everything in the right order and flush them out a bit more. I've been working on the three perspectives in this chapter on different files on my phone before merging them on my computer so it will be slightly longer as I have been working on it slowly for a while without noticing just how long it had gotten while I only had half an hour or so a day to work on it. I only just noticed as I was writing the note at the start before posting. This is also why I have bits and pieces of the next chapter ready as they are all in different files. I'll be going back to working on just the main file now that I'm back to posting.
One Falcon, Two Lions and Three Dragons.
Jon Arryn
In the months since the flotilla and caravans had left Jon and Tycho had improved the finances of the royal family and lowered the debt of three million seven hundred and thirty two thousand down to one million seven hundred and seventy one thousand. Having paid the Iron Bank one million three hundred thousand, the Lannisters four hundred and twenty five thousand, the Tyrells one hundred and thirty six thousand, and lastly the Faith of the Seven got one hundred thousand, clearing just over half of the debt that the crown owed.
With most of the debt that the crown owed to the Faith paid off, the Faith had started becoming less demanding of getting back the Faith militant or being allowing to go cut the Heart Trees of the old god on the Isle of Faces, or their even more impertinent demand that the 'heathen' northerners be 'cleansed' of their faith. Jon, thankful that Robert for once, is helpful in the situation, just laughing in the septons faces every time they brought up trying to destroy the faith of the old gods. Robert won't hear of anything that would bring war to the north and his brother by choice's faith. Robert even jokes often in front of septa's and septon's that he will convert to the old gods if they don't cut down their preachiness in front of him. This usually shuts them up and sends them scurrying off.
The Iron Bank is also in a more forgiving mood toward the Seven Kingdoms as they have lowered the interest on the remainder of the loan, on the proviso that the loan is now paid in three monthly payments. In other words they want money every time Tycho returns for a report. They agreed to a repayment of thirty thousand every time he goes back in exchange they lowered the interest to half a percent per year. Which was easier to come up with then the one hundred thousand one of the key holders insisted on. Thankfully that key holder had been out voted twelve to one. With this repayment schedule set the debt will be paid off in just under six years.
With the celebrations less than a month away and all the nobles arriving, as well as Tychos leaving for his reporting to the Iron bank the week before the celebrations, things are rather busy for Jon. Stannis had left once again for a training mission with the royal fleet, the man has no patience for the constant feast Robert threw, Stannis usually tried to arrange for being out of the capital as often as he could during these events. This time the training event would take him to the Step Stones and back, a month-long trip in total so long as there are no pirate attacks.
Jon was only thankful that the amount of nobles invited wasn't high. Mainly the Crown Lands lords and few of the Narrow Sea lords, not that Jon expected the Narrow Sea lords to show as most were a part of the training trip and those that were not, were the Targaryen Loyalists.
Jon is frustrated yet again with the royal couple, his grace had decided as soon as the out rides of his good father were spotted two days' ride away from the capital that now was a good time to go on a hunt for his elusive prize the white hart. Robert is adamant that the hart would be the centrepiece for the upcoming feast. Robert had also insisted that ser Jaime also attend him in his hunt. Jon is sure that he only did that to annoy his good father, if not his wife.
The queen on the other hand had not stopped scowling since Robert had left. Cersei threw a tantrum as soon as Robert announced that he's taking her twin with him. That had been two days ago, now Jon is waiting outside the queen chambers. She left him waiting for over two hours since Jon came to her chambers when her fathers banner was first spotted by the men patrolling the city walls. Now her fathers has just entered the city, and Jon is getting impatient. At least one of the royal couple should be in the courtyard to greet the man who had been helping to bankroll them while the thieving master of coin was around, Jon thinks to himself.
One of the queen's handmaidens exited her rooms. " You may enter, Lord hand." she says with a bow. Jon just walks past her without acknowledging her. Bowing to the spoiled queen, Jon notices that she already has her cup filled with wine and from the looks of things this isn't her first glass nor her first decanter.
"Your grace, your father has entered the city and shall be at the Red Keep within the hour." he says without preamble.
"Your point?" she says without looking at him too busy watching her handmaid's embroidering her gown, most likely the gown for the celebrations.
"Your father will be expecting you to be in the courtyard to greet him. You are his child after all." he says while thinking to himself, the father that did horrible things to put you on your throne in the first place.
The sacking of kings landing and the rape and murder of Princess Elia Martell and her children a horrible disgraceful thing. While Prince Aegon needed to be disposed of, Princess Elia could have been given back to the Dornish to keep the peace while Princess Rhaenys would have made for a good hostage against the dornish and a bride for the crowned prince and a way to legitimise their rule. Tywin was rather short sighted when he had them murdered.
"Why should I do that? I'm the queen. No lord, no matter how high of a lord he is will command my presence. If he wants an audience with me then he shall make an appointment like all other lords." Queen Cersei says with a small smirk on her face. Jon sighs not even trying to dissuade the spoiled brat from this course of action.
"Very well, your grace." saying that Jon leaves the room not caring that Tywin will see this as a slight. Robert already slighted him by leaving just before Tywin's arrival. As Jon leaves the room he hears the queen and her handmaid's start laughing, shaking his head as he makes his way to the courtyard.
Tywin
Having taken the long yet short route to King's Landing, Tywin was road weary on his arrival. The four months on horseback had made the lord of the rock more than a slight bit uncomfortable, not that he would ever admit to that fact, nor would he show his discomfort to the small folk. The ride with his brother has also made his temper closer to boiling over.
There had been large delays in crossing the mountains that separate the Crown Lands from the Westerlands. Tywin and his men had to camp on one of the summits and stayed there for over a moon as the valley was flooded by a summer storm and was impassable until the water receded. Upon reaching Deep Den they had been forced to delay another moon as the gold road to the lowlands had been washed out in the same summer storm and was unsafe to traverse by horse or foot. The delays did not help Tywin's temper nor did Kevan's sarcastic remarks about choosing the wrong road. By that point Tywin had wished he had taken the Roseroad or gone through the Riverlands.
The arrival of Gregor Clegane at Deep Den had been more of an annoyance but Tywin wasn't about to send his most rabid and faithful lord away. Lord Lewys Lydden the lord of Deep Den had his own issues with Clegane's arrival, Tywin had been forced to leash the mountain as more than one serving girl disappeared.
When they finally left Deep Den, Tywin knew that they would only just reach King's Landing before the celebration of his life's ambition of his blood being on the Throne.
Entering the Lions gate, Tywin fought the urge to cover his nose, the smell of kings landing had not improved over the years, if anything it had gotten worse than ever. Tywin knows that the Royal court did not care about what happened to the small folk, but he thought that at the very least Jon Arryn would have tried to do something about the smell or the festering piles of shit that are scattered about as this would likely lead to yet another outburst of fever if not the spring sickness.
It took less than an hour to get through the throngs of unwashed small folk and approach the red keep. Upon entering the gates Tywin notices something that made his temper rise once more. Feeling slighted, by not just his children but by the fat Stag King as the only person there to greet them upon arrival is the Hand of the King, Jon Arryn, not even the Mad King had dared slight Tywin this way.
"Lord Lannister and company, welcome to King's Landing. Please partake of guest rights and be welcome in the Red Keep" Jon Arryn says without inflection waving forward a surviving girl. For a man begging for his help, Tywin feels that this is not a proper greeting, but he partakes of the guest rights even though he thought that offering it to him was more than redundant as his daughter is the queen.
"Lord Arryn, I thank you. Where is the king and my daughter? I was expecting to be greeted by at the very least my children." The only response the falcon lord gave him is a raised eyebrow. This annoyed Tywin even more.
"The King is out hunting once more, preparing for the feast to celebrate the anniversary of the beginning of his reign. I believe he is hunting the white hart again. Sers Barristan and Jaime are both with his grace. Her grace, your daughter declined to greet you and said that if you wanted to see the queen you would partition like every other lord." Tywin could see the glee in Lord Arryns eyes as he relayed Cersei's words. "Please allow the stewared to show your men to the barracks set aside for them. Yourself and your brother have rooms set aside in Maegor's Holdfast. However you won't be alone there as there are more nobles arriving every day for the celebrations that will be in a few sennights. Ser Gregor you shall be placed nearer the maiden vault I'm afraid." Tywin knows Jon Arryn would rather throw Clegane in the black cells. All Clegane did in return was grunt and nod.
"I shall be seeing my daughter now. Kevan ensure my things are placed in my room. I believe my daughter needs to learn a few hard truths. Once I have seen her Grace I shall come and see you in the tower of the hand." with that Tywin makes his way to the royal apartment.
Kevan walks up to him. Just before he can reach the royal apartment
"Tywin, we need to talk now." Kevan mutters softly so only Tywin could hear. Changing direction from the royal apartment to an alcove that Tywin knew of that has no peep holes or had none when he was hand.
"What issues are they sensitive or can we risk them being overheard?" Kevan scratched his chin and shook his head.
"Not here Tywin. I doubt that the spider doesn't know about it but we cant have others know about this. One of my spies approached me and said I needed to bring you to the docks." Tywin looks at his brother, seeing if this was important enough to put his plans off.
"Does it need to be before I see Cersei and the old falcon or can it wait?"
"She said as soon as I could get you alone. So no, I don't think it can wait."
"Very well let me send a message to the hand." stepping out of the alcove Tywin motions forward one of his guards.
"Take a message to one of the hand's guards or his squire and tell him that something important has come up with one of our businesses in the city." the guard nods and runs off.
Kevan leads the way down to the docks, but before reaching the harbour he leads them off to one of the taverns that someone in the Lannister family owns. Kevan didn't know that it was Tyrion that owned this one, Tywin did. This business was one of the only ones that Tyion owned that Tywin approved of. It is known as the best tavern in King's landing, as well as having the cleanest rooms to rent. Tyrion has put a lot of effort into this business, he modelled it off the one he owes in Lannisport.
"Why are we here Kevan?"
"This is where she works." Kevan responds with a raised eyebrow.
"Then she is not your spy, she is Tyrion's and he lets her report what she knows to you. Tyrion owns this place. All the staff here are loyal to him before the rest of us." Kevan just shrugs and keeps walking into the back of the tavern, into the back room that Tywin knows the owner uses.
"You made it good. And you brought Lord Lannister even better." she says without emotion.
"What has Tyion told you to pass on?" Tywin asks as he sits in one of the available chairs. He knows of this woman, she's the manager, one of Tyrion's best people. She originally came from Lannisport. His own spies have reported on her.
"Tyrion has left me with standing orders. One of those orders is to report to the senior Lannister if they are ever in King landing. Another is to never report to his sister. And the last but the one that made me bring you down here as soon as I knew you were in Kings Landing is that if there is any scandal that is likely to bring down the Lannister family, I am to report it as soon as I know of it. I have already sent one of our best people to Lannisport." Kevan looks shocked at this information. Tywin not so much as a muscle in his face moves much less the appearance of shock at his stunted son's orders. Despite being a disappointment Tywin knows Tyrion loves his family.
"And what information do you have to report?" Tywin asks
"Cersei and Jaime are having a physical affair. None of the children are King Roberts. And I'm ninety percent sure the hand and the spider know about it." This does bring a response to Tywin's face, anger, repulsion, disgust and finally disbelief.
"I don't believe you. My children are not this disgusting."
"I have an eye witness. One of her maids. Cersei tried to have her killed. Raped to death actually. One of my men managed to get her out of there but not before a third of the Lannister men had their turn with her. She was meant to be raped to death by the full garrison of Lannister guards." Tywin grits his teeth at this. Knowing that Cersei had got that idea from himself, and the way he had dealt with the gold digger Tyrion married.
"I'm not saying that I believe you but that does sound like something she would do. Bring this witness before me. But before that I want to know why you say that the spider knows." the spy hesitates for a moment before answering.
"He is spending more and more time hiding the Dragon children than actually reporting on them. I know for a fact that the boy is in the process of selling off his sister if he hasn't already. The plan won't work but the fact that he hasn't reported on it is worrying."
"Who has she been married off to?" Tywin asks, more worried about this development than the fact rumours about his golden twins.
"The strongest Dothraki Khal, Khal Drogo. He has twenty thousand Dothraki screamers at his call and another thirty thousand slave warriors." This news makes Tywin more worried.
"I shall return to find out more news about my children on the morrow. I must meet the hand and my daughter." With this Tywin leaves the tavern and makes his way back to the Red Keep. Kevan had stayed to find out more information to inform Tywin of.
Instead of making his way straight to the tower of the hand Tywin makes his way to his daughters royal apartments. Not waiting for himself to be announced nor stopping when the king's guard trys to block his entry. Though the attempt was half hearted at best the Oakhearts boy sees the look on Tywin's face and decides it wasn't worth the lion's wrath to get in between him and his daughter.
Cersei looks up as Tywin enters. Leaving the door open Tywin surveys the room and the handmaid's busy at their various tasks to keep his daughter entertained.
"Out." he orders. The women hurry to obey his command.
"Stay." Cersei commands but none of her handmaid's listen, more afraid of Tywin than the queen. All that Cersei would do to them is have them flogged then fired, Tywin had a reputation of disposing of people who have angered him. As the last leaves Tywin closes the door. "You can't just come in and order my servants around. I am the queen."
"Daughter, have you forgotten who put you on the throne? You must have because if you hadn't then you would have been waiting in the courtyard to greet a lord paramount as is your duty." Tywin says with a raised eyebrow.
"I am the QUEEN!" Cersei yells, throwing her glass at her father. Tywin dodges the glass. Striding forward he backhands Cersei. Cersei clutches her face about to respond to her father by calling the guards, Tywin cuts her off before she can start.
"You may be the queen but you do not rule. You are still the same spoiled child from the rock. I can see that you are about to call for your guards. Do you forget who your guards truly serve. Go on call them. I can guarantee the only one that might listen is Ser Arys and even he didn't stop me from walking in here." Cersei glares at Tywin but says nothing. "What nothing to say? This is the first time I have ever hit one of my own children. Do you have any idea how disappointed I am in you?" Not even his stunted son had angered him to this point before.
"I am the queen, it would have been seen as weakness for me to go meet you in the courtyard." Cersei says, trying to defend herself.
"Oh you stupid girl. That slight is not what truly angers me. I know what you have been spending your coin on. I also know how much debt the realm is in, I have more than enough spy's to know. I also know how bad your relationship with the fat fool is. If you can't control your husband then what kind of Lannister are you? And as to your point about weakness. The mad king would greet me at the gates to King's Landing before he went completely unstable. It's not weakness, it's showing respect to those that pay you taxes. Or have you forgotten that you rely on these lords for money?" seeing the look on Cersei's face Tywin knew he was not getting through to her. She would keep going down this path until a lord or kingdom rebelled. Seeing the hopelessness of the situation Tywin leaves. Deciding it would be a better waist of his time if he went to see the old falcon.
Daenerys
Her marriage to the Dothraki Khal was everything she thought it was going to be. He was a savage, not even knowing the common tongue, the only thing she had enjoyed about her marriage was the three dragon eggs that the magister gave her. One black one blue and one a creamy green. Daenerys swore that she could feel them move when she held them and that they were warm to the touch. However everyone else told her they were cold and stone, even her brother believed them to be dead eggs.
During the day all they did was ride first west through the Dothraki Sea towards Vaes Dothrak then south west toward Lhazar, during the night all that Khal Drogo wanted was sex, and not even good sex, Daenerys had to have one of her slave handmaidens teach her how to make sex more pleasurable for her and Drogo has no interest in making it better for her.
In Vaes Dothrak the Dosh Khaleen proclaimed that while Khal Drogo's son would be the Stallion who mounts the world, he would not be her son. That no silver hair as they call her can be the mother of the stallion. The Dosh Khaleen also proclaimed that the silver hair would not become one of them. That she was not good enough to be a Khaleesi, let alone a member of the Dosh Khaleen.
The Khal had almost set her aside at that point but Daenery has him wrapped around her fingers, mostly due to their improved sex. Daenerys not being pregnant at that point was proclaimed to be weak and having a weak womb, this infuriated Daenerys. Silver hair is a witch they said before Daenerys managed to convince her husband to leave the next morning.
Khal Drogo is looking for another wife, but Danny was taking her time in letting him choose. As is Dothraki custom the first wife chooses the next, unless she is dead or set aside. Being set aside by a Dothraki Khal usually involved being left in the Dothraki sea with no horse, no food and no water. Something Deanerys would not allow to happen to her, she would kill Khal Drogo in his sleep before she allowed that to happen.
The commotion that Viserys made in Vaes Dothrak had been the last straw for both Danny and the Khal. no one knew where Viserys got the sword from but it wasn't something that was going to be tolerated by anyone anymore. Especially not when he was waving it around and threatening everyone. The bear knight that has followed them since Pentos, being the only one that Viserys thought was on his side, was able to get close enough to grab Viserys by the arm and hair before dragging him towards Drogo. Drogo then punched him in the throat, Viserys went down gasping for breath.
Since shedding blood was forbidden in the only permanent settlement of the Dothraki Drogo had to come up with a more fitting punishment. That punishment was something that Daenerys is most in favour of happening so long as her brother ends up dead. Viserys in the end is dragged behind Khal Drogo's horse while he rode around the Mother Mountain until he died.
The Khal wanted to have more slave soldiers and more cattle. Most of the slaves would either be sold to Meereen or Yunkai, or they would be kept to keep the camp running smoothly or more slave warriors. Danny has decided that her new peoples way of life while not keeping with her own people's morals she has spent too much time in Essos not to know that it is a part of life here slavery was the way everything ran here. Either you were rich enough not to be a slave or you were a slave. Most slaves she has met were treated well, very few were not. Even in the Khalasar slaves weren't terribly mistreated.
Even Daenerys' true people had no problem with slavery only the Westerosi had issues with slavery. And then it was only because of both kinds of their faith that made it repugnant. The Valyrians used slaves to build most of their cities. Daenerys considers herself a true born Valyrian, mostly thanks to the time she spent in Volantis. During her time in Volantis the Red Priests had told her that her blood was awake, and that was the reason that she could touch fire and not be burnt.
The magisters of Volantis wanted to keep her, especially those of the old blood. Visarys got many marriage offers from there for her. The only reason he hadnt sold her to one of them was they didn't make a secret of the fact they didn't value him nor would they give him an army to try to conquer westeros.
Walking through the third town they had sacked on their path to Slaver's Bay while scurting the Red waste, Daenerys makes her way to her husband only to find him fighting one of his strongest men. Khal Drogo was hurt badly during the fight, the man he had been fighting may have been dead at his feet but the moment that he fell to the floor Daenerys knew that their people would most likely never follow him again, or at least not until he proved that he could fight again. During that night most of the Khalasar left them as Drogo fought to stay alive. In the morning he was dead.
Building his funeral pyre Daenerys cut her hand, ordering her bear knight to place the body of her husband, she places her three dragon eggs on the pyre before setting it alight. Daenerys didn't know why she did that but she did. Figuring that it must be something that her dragon blood called for Daenerys went with it.
Once the pyre was fully alight she entered while those that stayed with her watched. It took six hours for it to fully die down. Once it had died down everyone saw that not only was she fully naked but that her three eggs have hatched and that two had latched on to her nipples as if they were trying to breastfeed from them. The bear knight also noticed that before she had gone into the fire she had rather small breasts but that she has emerged her breasts have swelled and grown at least twice as large. As one of the dragons left her breast the nipple started to leak, quickly the one that had not been feeding from them latched on. Daenerys gave a slight moan before straightening and saying
"My children have been born. And I shall use them to conquer the world."
The Dothraki and her bear knight knelt at her proclamation.
Just a side note the spider didn't tell Robert about Daenerys wedding so no assassins were sent to kill them. Viserys as you see still died horribly. Short visit to Essos but seriously Danny isn't a big part of this story, I mean it, I don't like how she was portrayed at the end of the show and if that's seriously where Mr. Martin was going with her character then fuck her. I did read the books and her character in the books was only slightly better than in the shows.
