Reina Solis can distinctly remember her first interaction with Bobby Brown.
It was in Sophomore year, she was taking pictures of soccer and cheerleading tryouts for the yearbook. While most of the female population at West Valley High School was ogling over Johnny (Reina will admit that he is attractive, alongside the rest of his friends), there was something about Bobby that caught her eye and made her heart burst.
After the events that had transpired last night at that party, all she wanted to do is shrink down into her bed.
But alas, she couldn't. She has a reputation to uphold as a high prospect of being valedictorian.
Walking out, she spots her mom making huevos pericos. "Ah, Reina, you're up." Lydia greets. Reina sits down at the kitchen table as Lydia serves the both of them their breakfast.
"So, first day of senior year, huh." Lydia tells her while the two were cleaning up after breakfast. Reina shrugs it off, as if it is no big deal. "Reina, corazon, it is a big deal if you are valedictorian." Lydia points out.
"Mama, it only happened because I was putting in effort." Reina states.
"Ah, I know. That work ethic is what's gonna get you so far in life." Lydia tells her. "Have a good first day, mi amor."
Reina walks out of the apartment and makes her way down the stairs and all the way to the side of the complex to get her bike, which is standing next to where her mom's car is parked. She grabs the bike lock and puts it in the basket, along with her bag, and she rides off to school.
Once arriving at the bike racks, she takes out her bag and the bike lock and wraps it around the rung of the tire and the pole of the rack, making sure that it is confined.
Reina makes her way through the school and towards Principal Richards' office. She knocks on the door and then peeks her head in. "You needed to see me, Principal Richards?"
"Ah, yes." he mumbles out before turning to Daniel. "Mr. LaRusso, I would like you to meet Miss Solis. She will be helping you navigate our school." the principal introduces the new student to the valedictorian prospect, not knowing that the two already know each other.
"Miss Solis, I will have you come by after the first period to pick up the schedule for the tutoring center." Principal Richards says as the two now head out of the office.
"Hey there, stranger." Reina greets him with a small smile, and that smile is what managed Danniel to crack a smile. "Hey there, yourself."
"Word of advice, I wouldn't wear sunglasses inside." Reina points out as she was about to take off the sunglasses. "It would make you seem like a total dou…" she continued and then stopped after she took them off and it revealed the shiner that Daniel has gotten, thanks to Johnny.
"Ouch, your eye…" Reina winces out.
"Yeah…" Daniel muses out. "Listen, I just want to say thanks for not leaving me out there." he adds.
"I'm sorry about your eye. How did your mom take it?" she asks.
"All I told her is that I fell off my bike." Daniel tells Reina, who now just became skeptical.
"And she believed you?" she asks.
While Reina continues to converse with Daniel, unbeknownst to her, she caught the attention of one of the five karate-adept boys.
"Hey, Bobby, look at that, it's your girlfriend." Dutch calls out. Bobby's face is now beet red from embarrassment.
"She's not my girlfriend!" Bobby hisses.
"And who's fault is that? Because it's not us that keeps staring at her like a psychopath." Tommy points out.
Bobby Brown can remember the day that Reina Solis has caught his attention.
It was 1982. Rocky III was long over and Bobby was waiting on Dutch for getting the popcorn and melted butter (courtesy of Ali, who was tired of having Milk Duds thrown at her head, dumping it over his head) washed out of his bleach blonde hair.
While he was waiting, his eyes drifted over to his neighbor, Tina, and a girl who he had never seen before but became instantly enamored with. The Latina has this smile that is radiant and infectious.
When the girls disappeared through the doors that have been showing Poltergeist, he was asking about Reina. At first, his friends didn't believe him, but after getting a glimpse of Reina, they have been pestering him to make a move, but he is scared to.
In his mind, how does one approach Reina Solis?
She's beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, and full of spirit. In his mind, she is too good for him, especially after what happened during the beach party last night.
In the mind of Bobby Brown, Reina Solis is truly one of a kind.
"Bobby, this is Senior Year. We have one year to make it work." Johnny tries to encourage Bobby.
"Nah, after what happened yesterday, she'll never look at me now." Bobby brushes off. And that is what his friends have been hearing ever since he saw Reina.
"Woah, woah. Isn't that the cockroach from yesterday?" Tommy asks when he did a double take and noticed Reina talking to Daniel.
"Okay, Bobby, no shitting around. It's finally your chance to strike first." Johnny tells him.
"It's okay, boys. Just leave it to me." Dutch tells his friends before he turns over towards Reina.
"Hey Reina!" Dutch calls out.
Bobby looks over at Dutch with horror in his eyes as he tries to cover Dutch's mouth. "Keep it down! She can hear us!" Bobby hisses at a chuckling Dutch.
It seems that Dutch yelling out her name did catch her attention, and when she turned, she saw Bobby trying to silence Dutch.
Jimmy harshly nudges Bobby. "Bobby!" he hisses out.
The boy with the same hairstyle as Luke Skywalker looks over at Jimmy, who nods in Reina's direction. Bobby looks over at Reina, beet red, and sheepishly smiles at her. Reina smiles back, concerned and wary.
Johnny clasps a hand on Bobby's shoulder and nudges him towards Reina, but it might be a little too hard because Bobby lost his footing and tripped onto the floor.
A worried Reina turns to Daniel. "Just give me one moment." she tells him before going over to Bobby. Before Reina reaches Bobby, he gets up from the floor and launches himself at Johnny.
"What the shit, Johnny?!" Bobby yells at him.
"Okay." Reina muses out before returning back to Daniel. "Let's find your first class, okay."
The two walked past the Cobra Kais, however, not without Reina giving out one last shy smile to Bobby, who in turn returned it as well.
