Chapter 46: The Mystery of Crocodile Island:
Nancy's POV:
According to legend, long ago, there was a pirate. His name was Branley 'Ghostly' Belzebob. He had a treasure, but no one has ever found it. Legend says it's hidden on Crocodile Island. But no one has ever stepped foot on Crocodile Island... except Ghostly.
"Do you think the legend is true," asks Shaun.
"I know what I'd do if I had that treasure," says George.
"I wonder why people stay away from Crocodile Island," says Bess.
"I wonder why they call it Crocodile Island," says Ned.
"Hey, why don't we check it out," I asked, "maybe we can find the treasure."
. . .
So, we set sail for Crocodile Island.
"You're a natural sailor, George," says Shawn.
"I guess there's something good about having a sea ghost in my head," says George.
"Thar, she blows," says Bess.
We have arrived at Crocodile Island.
. . .
We were using a map I bought from a salesman. I don't know why, but I can read it real well.
"Follow me," I said.
. . .
We were following the map.
"Does anyone else hear that weird sound," asks Ned.
Then something was crawling towards us. It was a group of crocodiles.
"I think I know why this place is called Crocodile Island," says Ned.
Crocodile Island was literally a home for crocodiles. No wonder people stay away from this place. The Crocs were crawling towards us. We had to run.
. . .
Everywhere we were running, we kept running into crocodiles. They were popping up out of nowhere.
"Where did they come from," asks Ned, "I thought crocs were Australian!"
"It doesn't matter," I said.
"Right, getting off this island does," says George.
"No, finding the treasure matters," I said. They all looked at me. "We came here to find the treasure and that's what we're going to do! Let's go!"
. . .
The others are worried about crocodiles, but it will be fine as long as we find that treasure. Nothing else matters.
"Let's keep an eye out," says Ned.
"I just had a thought," says Shaun, "a pirate left his treasure on an island of crocodiles. Weird."
"So far, no sign of them," says Bess.
"We just have to turn left at that rock that... kind of looks like Spencer Paysinger," I said.
Everyone else takes a look. "It does look like him," says Ned.
"Look at that," says Bess.
"I don't really follow football," says George.
"Trust me, it's him," says Shaun.
"Okay, left," I said.
We then saw more crocodiles were coming. "And hurry," says Ned. We then ran.
. . .
We continued on our way, but then George stopped walking.
"What's the hold-up," I asked.
"My feet are stuck," says George.
Then some crocodiles showed up.
"Isn't there anything else they can eat," asks Ned.
"We have to keep moving," I said.
"We have to help George," says Bess.
Bess, Ned, and Shaun then pulled George out and as the crocs were getting closer, we ran.
George's POV:
I don't know what it is, but Nancy's starting to become obsessed with the treasure. She never even heard the legend until today!
"You hahve to ahdmire hair dedeecahtion"
"Go away, Odette," I said.
"You must do whahtevair eet tahkes to get whaht you wahnt."
"Well, here's a question, if I die, then what happens to you?"
"I'm naht entirely sure. Zat's a good question."
Nancy's POV:
We were looking for the treasure. Next, we had to turn right at the trio of bushes. We saw them, but some crocs came out of them.
"Where's the Crocodile Hunter when you need him," asks Ned.
Shaun then tries standing still. "Oh wait, I'm thinking of T-Rexes.
We ran right.
. . .
We then continued.
"Look, I see our boat," says Ned, "it's not too late to head there."
"We're getting closer," I said, "nothing matters more!"
"Nancy, why are you so obsessed with that treasure," asks George.
"It's because..." I then realized something. "Come out, Ghostly!"
"I been wonderin' when any o' ye was goin' to find out" It was him, Branley 'Ghostly' Belzebob.
"Let me guess, Gomber put you up to this," I said.
"Aye, 'e did. 'e said I could 'ave me treasure aft if I got ye all trapped 'ere on Crocodile Island."
"But you have no reason to fear the crocs," says Ned, "couldn't you have just gone for the treasure yourself?"
"Maybe, but it wouldn't be as fun. Now, if ye excuse me, I 'ave a treasure to find." He then disappeared.
"I say we mahke zat peerahte pay!"
"Hold it," I said, "he's just going to get his treasure back! That doesn't affect us in anyway and now, we can go home! So, let's go!" We all moved.
Ghostly's POV:
After all these years, I found me treasure an' I phased through the ground, but as I tried to grab it... me 'ands phased through. Me useless ghost 'ands be failin' me! looks like I be goin' to need to borrow a body again!
Nancy's POV:
Just as we were heading for the boat, Ghostly came out of nowhere and entered my body and my legs started moving.
. . .
We were right at the X.
"Give me back control," I said.
"The treasure first an' then ye can 'ave yer body aft."
"Nancy!" George came. "I volunteered to go after you!"
"George, this freak is trying to make me dig up his treasure," I said.
The crocodiles are coming.
"I have the book," says George.
"Then open it," I said.
"I must 'ave me treasure!"
George opens the book, but nothing happens. "Right, your body's in the way," says George, "that's why we never just use the book to suck up Odette!"
"The treasure be mine!"
George then looks like she has a look of realization. "If Nancy dies, then what happens to you?"
The crocs were getting closer and Ghostly comes out and his appearance scares the crocs away. "Now that they be gone..."
George uses the book to trap Ghostly. George and I then hug. "Thanks," I said.
"I know what it's like to deal with a ghost," says George.
. . .
We then all set sail for home.
. . .
When I was just sitting down, an old friend showed up.
"Nancy!"
"Tom, what brings you here," I asked.
"Nancy, I need your help!"
In the next chapter, Nancy solves a mystery in space.
