As I approached the mansion, I saw a woman peering through the window and my stomach dropped. I'd know her anywhere.
"Una!" I exclaimed as I rushed over to her as she turned looking alarmed for a moment. Her face softened when she realised who I was as she smiled "Bella!"
We embraced each other after twenty years and it felt so good. She was still as beautiful as I remembered. I felt such joy being reunited with her again, like a missing part of me had now been returned. And then I felt her start to cry on me, I understood the feeling, but it felt different for her. I moved back from our embrace and saw sadness in her eyes.
"Una...What's the matter?" I whispered, as I felt tears start to rise. I knew something was wrong. Una peered back through the window and then looked down as she told me "There is a reason why you've been able to get through the Wall again".
My stomach dropped; my pulse raced as I heard the large doors next to us click open. I didn't hear a word that Una was trying to tell me as I rushed in, hearing her follow in behind me.
And that's when I saw him, lying on the ground completely lifeless. I rushed over to his side, he looked peaceful in death as I knelt by him stroking his face, the warmth I used to love about his touch, now gone. I hope he hadn't suffered if there was any kindness that this life could give, please let it be that.
How could this be happening? This couldn't be happening. Silent tears rolled down my face as I laid my head onto his still chest. I thought my heart might stop beating there and I wouldn't have minded at all.
"Bella" I looked up as I thought for a moment, I heard him whisper but of course he didn't, he was gone. The word 'gone' repeating in my mind as if it would slowly start to drive me mad until I broke completely.
"Bella...I'm so sorry" Una whispered as she knelt next to me and she continued "Though it appears we have a King that he would be proud of, for defeating his murderer. He can rest easy knowing he was avenged".
I looked up and rubbed my eyes went towards Tristan, the boy I helped raise was now King as my Prince lay dead.
"Bella?" Tristan looked at me confused; he never knew that I had come from the other side of the Wall.
"Do you know each other?" Una looked at us both, even more confused.
"We both live in Wall, the village where I grew up" Tristan explained as I struggled to process anything. Next to him, I saw a beautiful blonde woman, in a midnight blue gown holding his hand. It looked as though she was glowing, but I didn't trust my head at all at the moment.
"I have been fortunate enough to watch Tristan grow but it appears he has grown up even more in the space of a week" I smiled weakly, still trying to process everything.
"I'm so pleased you had good people looking over you, Tristan" Una looked teary at the years she had missed but I hoped in time, I could tell her everything that she had to miss.
The chatter continued behind me, exchanging stories of how everyone was linked and how all our stories entwined with each other. I heard that the girl, Yvaine was actually a Star - so maybe I wasn't imagining things, perhaps she was glowing. I was happy for Tristan and his Star; I was happy for Una to be reunited with her son too - who wouldn't be?
But the pain was unbearable. Twenty years I had waited in hope to see Septimus again and he was gone before we even got to be reunited again. I held his cold hand, wondering how I'd ever be able to let go. I looked at his face and wanted to know every little detail that passed in his life over the last twenty years. I hoped that he knew in his heart that I was always true to him. I leant over to his and whispered, "In this life and the next".
