Chapter 1: New kid on the block
Fuzzy-lumbkins, a hillbilly type animal-man, was just sitting outside, watching the stars in the sky while drinking his moonshine. On nights like these you just want to relax without a care in the world.
All was quiet and peaceful…until Fuzzy saw something, a falling star perhaps? No. It wasn't a star and it was coming right towards his house. Fuzzy jumped out of the way, but in the process, allowed his home to be destroyed. "What in the…'' he said, a mixture of both anger and confusion. Fuzzy saw where the mystery asteroid was heading and decided to chase after it, taking his gun with him.
After walking for a while, Fuzzy came across a large damaged spaceship, one of the wings was torn off and it engine's smoking, Fuzzy went towards an opening that was on the right side of the ship. Whatever happened, it most likely was blown up on the inside or something shot it down. Fuzzy being a dumb person that he is, decided to venture into the ship, and once inside he let out a blood curdling scream.
The next day: morning
Welcome to Townsville: home for world renowned historical events and home to The Powerpuff Girls. A family of two drove past the sign, the father was focusing on driving while his five year old daughter was on her tablet, her headphones in while she was listening to music while also looking out the window. Behind them was a moving truck that was following them to their new home.
After what felt like hours the family arrived at their home. It was a two-story house fitted with three bedrooms: one for the father and one for the daughter, the other could be used as a guest room or just for storage. There was a living room and kitchen that could fit up to ten people, and finally a garage.
"Welp, here we are." The daughter looked out of the car window, she didn't look all that excited, instead looking back at her tablet. The father took notice of this, looking at his daughter with worry. "Let's just park and get settled in, shall we?"
After what felt like hours, the father was able to finish unpacking. The father was in the kitchen, placing where the plates and silverware are supposed to go. The father went upstairs to his daughter's room only to see her on the bed that the movers put in, looking around he could see that she hadn't put her belongings away, instead she was on the bed looking at videos, photographs, or playing some games on her tablet. The father sighed looking at his five-year-old daughter "Futaba, you can't be on that thing forever, right?" Futaba didn't respond.
The father knew that getting to talk with his daughter would be impossible, so he walked over to her and took the tablet away. Futaba immediately reacted, "Hey!" She yelled, getting up and following her father to the kitchen.
"Look Futaba, I know moving here has been a little tough for us. But I'm not going to let you waste today cooked up in your room all day." He said, placing the tablet up on the refrigerator, "You can have it back once you stretch your legs for a bit, alright?" Futaba knew that trying to get her things back would be impossible, so with no other choice she went outside, "Now don't go too far out from the house, don't talk to strangers, and be back before it gets dark, alright?"
"Yes dad." she said, earning a nod from her father. Futaba sighed and started walking around. As she did she could see kids playing with friends or with family. Futaba didn't care much about all that and instead wanted to listen to her music or read, of course that's not going to happen anytime soon, so instead she walked around the neighborhood, getting a layout of the area before thinking of a way to kill time.
She walked around for a bit until she spotted a playground, no one was there beside a few other kids. Futaba looked around and spotted a tree near the swing sets, 'Guess taking a nap wouldn't be so bad.' she thought. As she got to the tree and lay down, she pulled out her glasses case and put her glasses in it. After that she held onto the case and looked up to the sky.
A lot of thoughts went through her head, one of them being 'why?' Why did she and her dad have to move? Was it because of what happened, or was it because of… Futaba stopped her train of thought and once again looked up to the sky again.
"...Hope you're doing okay, mom…" she mumbled before she closed her eyes. She didn't know how long it was, but before she could even get a second into her nap, she heard a voice.
"Hi there!" Futaba opens her eyes and shoots up. standing beside her looking down was a girl around her age, with blonde hair in pigtails wearing a light blue dress. She greeted Futaba with a confused look before smiling. "Geez, don't scare someone like that. Nearly gave me a heart attack." The girl giggled leaving Futaba even more confused.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you like that." The girl said. She then took notice of Futaba's appearance. Long light-red-hair, purple eyes and just earlier was wearing glasses. She also notices Futaba's clothing as well. She wore a green jacket and shorts. On her shirt it had a character that was eating a bowl of ramen with the words 'Ichiraku Ramen' imprinted in the background. "Huh. Are you new here?"
"Huh? Y-Yeah. My dad and I moved in just now."
"Oh! So you are new then!" the girl giggled a bit before sticking her hand out, "My name is Bubbles. What's yours?" Futaba stares at her for a bit before shaking her hand, "Futaba." After letting go of Bubbles' hand she put her glasses back on, "Futaba… That's a weird name."
"It's Japanese." She said, rubbing the back of her head. "Oh! Sorry." Said Bubbles but Futaba shrugs and smiles, "Don't be. A lot of people say stuff like that." Bubbles took a sigh of relief, regaining her smile back, "Oh, that's good." She said before another question popped into her head, "But, what were you doing laying on the ground?"
"Oh, I thought I should take a nap before heading home. That's all."
"What, but why? It's still sunny out."
"Yeaaaah, but I normally don't go outside." Futaba said, laughing a little awkwardly. Bubbles was a little surprised by this, but it quickly went away when she thought of an idea. "Anyway, I should get going. It was nice meeting you though." Futaba said, but wasn't able to move. She looked back and saw Bubbles grabbing her arm with a smile.
"Oh no you don't. I got some time before I head home. Come on, let's play." Futaba didn't get to respond before getting dragged to the swing sets by Bubbles. "You know how to swing, right?"
"Yeah…?"
"Okay good; I'll push, you'll swing." Futaba, having been pulled and dragged, considered her options: she could say no and walk home. Or she could do what this strange girl says. But looking at how happy Bubbles is and what to be friends with her, she gave in.
"Alright." She said with a defeated tone. Bubbles smiles at the response unaware of the tone Futaba said it in. And for the next few hours Futaba and Bubbles play together. At first Futaba didn't really get into it yet, but slowly started to have fun.
They played on, if not, almost all of the playground equipment; from the swing sets, to monkey bars, merry-go-rounds and evening playing in the sandbox for a little bit. To say the least, Futaba had a good time, if only a little.
Local park: Noon
"That was a lot of fun, huh!" Bubbles said with a fit of giggles. Futaba didn't want to admit it, but she did have fun, "Yeah. I guess it was." Futaba said with a small smile.
"Well anyway, I should be heading back now." Bubbles said, turning around with a skip. "It was nice meeting you Futaba. Let's play again sometime." She said, turning around and waving to her one last time before disappearing out of sight. Futaba wanted to say something, maybe a "See you later." Or "Yeah, you too." But nothing. Instead watching her leave.
Futaba looked back at the playground equipment that she and Bubbles played on. Most, if not all of the kids went home with their families. Futaba looked down on the ground before looking back up with a neutral face, "I doubt I'll ever see her again." She mumbled before walking home.
When she got home, she saw her father cooking, he noticed her entering the kitchen, "Ah, your back. Yelp. Hope you're hungry? Dinner will be ready in a little bit, so why don't you wash up before it's ready." Futaba didn't respond, instead looking at the refrigerator, "You can have it back after dinner." Futaba sighed and went upstairs, already knowing the answer.
After cleaning herself up she ate dinner with her father. It was awkwardly quiet for the most part, so her father decided to ask Futaba what she did today. "So anything interesting happened?" Silence, "Make any friends?" Futaba stopped messing with her food and answered her father's question, "Well…there was this one person I kinda befriended."
"Really?" Honestly taking a back by his daughter's answer. "Yeah. though I doubt I'll see her again."
"*Hamp* Well glad to hear that." He said, smiling for a bit, "I'm sure you'll make a lot of friends at your new school too as well." Futaba nearly choked on her food, "What!!!" she said with a shout.
"Don't give me that tone young lady."
"But we just got here! How did you even get me into school in a short amount of time when I was gone!?"
"I was able to get into contact with the teacher who runs the place and told her of our situation. Luckily she was nice enough to let me enroll you without any issue." Futaba was taken aback by this, her father knew that look, he knew it too well, "Look, I know you don't like it when I talk about things that center around you, especially when it comes to our situation. But we need to move on, because right now, you need schooling, and I can't provide that." Futaba didn't say anything, but she lowered her head and accepted it. "Alright, now finish up. It's almost past your bedtime."
After eating and cleaning up, she got her tablet back from her father and took a bath. When it was done she sat in bed looking at the ceiling. A lot of thoughts were going through her head, but she pushed them back and started to get up. Walking over to one of the moving boxes she opened the one that was labeled as junk. Opening up she got out a old-broken-robot, a few tools and a screwdriver.
She then walked back and sat on her bed before turning on the bedside lamp. She started to tinker with it, repairing it and before she knew it she was done. She turned to her window and started to wind-up the small robot. She sat it down and watched it move, walking forward before eventually stopping. Futaba smiles before looking out her window, seeing the stars up above.
"..."
After staring off for a while she places the robot on her bedside table, staring at the small robot before eventually falling to sleep.
