Chapter 24: Spy Hunter:

Sonic's POV:

We were at a mission briefing.

"Agent Bass believes that the Commander of G.U.N. is under Eggman's control," says Captain Fox, "Sonic, we may need you to help him!"

"Towers and I have never really been friends," I said, "but anything to stop Eggman!"

"Eggman has been spotted driving through the highway," says Captain Fox.

. . .

Car? I don't need no stinkin' car! I'm my own ride. I was running through the highway, chasing after Eggman, but various enemy vehicles are trying to destroy me or force me off the road, including a helicopter that's dropping bombs from overhead. I had to destroy them... or force them off the road. I also had to avoid hitting civilian cars. I can also use oil slicks, smoke screens, surface-to-air missiles. Don't ask how I managed to use them. Now, I'm running across the water and I'm trying to avoid enemy boats. I hate water. Eventually, I'm back on land and I think I lost all the enemies. Now to find Eggman!

I found a G.U.N. base and I sneak in. Somehow, I had to avoid being noticed... too bad I'm a talking blue hedgehog. This ain't gonna be fun.

I was sneaking around when I saw a shard from the Master Emerald, in a glass dome. I then moved to it, but I was caught by Towers.

I was strapped to a table with a laser aimed at me.

"Sonic the Hedgehog," says Dr. Eggman, "how nice to see you again."

"So, you do have Towers under your control," I said.

"I had to," says Eggman, "you see, I need the resources of G.U.N. for my plans."

"Well, while I'm here, maybe you can clear something up," I said, "what is your connection with Dr. Robotnik? You can't be distant cousins! Another planet is way too distant!"

"It's more complicated than that," says Eggman, "it all started with my Grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik..." I met him. "When he was working on... a special project, he found something incredible, the Paradox Prism! It possesses the power of space manipulation! When my Grandfather tried to study it, the strangest thing happened. There was a white flash. At first, he assumed nothing happened, but then your Dr. Robotnik and I met, and we both discovered that the prism split members of our family in two. One on Earth and one on Mobius. So, in a sense, Dr. Eggman and Dr. Robotnik are one in the same, and yet, two different people!"

"TTThhhaaattt... uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh... eeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhh... sounds like enough to give someone a headache," I said, "but why is one of you on Mobius?"

"What do I look like, a fanfiction author," asks Eggman, "how am I supposed to know? ALL I KNOW IS THAT SOON, WE WILL RULE THE UNIVERSE TOGETHER! For now, it's time to dispose of you!"

"You expect me to talk, Eggman," I asked.

"No, Mr. Hedgehog, I expect you to die! Yes, DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!"

He activates the laser and I had to think fast. I then tried that vibrating thing the Flash does and just as the laser zaps, I vibrate through the table, and I hit Eggman with a spindash. Towers then tries to grab me, but I did a spindash and hit the mind control device on him. "Wha-"

"No time," I said, "Eggman's getting away!" I then chase after him.

I then ran to find Eggman, but I had to get past a lot of bots. I then took them on with a spindash. I then saw Eggman go through a room, and I went after him.

. . .

I was back in the first room and Eggman was heading for his shard.

"No, you don't," I said.

"You're too late," says Eggman. He then grabs the shard, and it fills him with cosmic energy.

"Uh-oh," I said.

Eggman then blasts me. "Now, if you excuse me, I have much to do!" He then leaves and I start to pass out...

"Sonic! Sonic! Sonic! Sonic! Sonic!"

I woke up and saw it was Towers. "Where's Eggman," I asked.

"He left," says Towers, "and now he has the power of that shard!"

"Imagine if he gets the complete Emerald," I said, "he has to be taken down!"

"Sonic, I want to thank you for saving me," says Towers.

We then shake hands. "Anytime," I said.

I looked at the sky, knowing this was not the last I've seen of Dr. Eggman!

Dr. Robotnik of Mobius and Dr. Eggman of Earth are basically the same person but also two different people... I don't know... I really don't know... I extremely really don't know... it's really... really... really... really... really... really... really... really... really... really... really... really... really... really... confusing. In the next chapter, Eggman attempts to get the rest of the shards.
