Arc 1, Chapter 1

The prediction of death

The sun lit up the sky as usual, and the birds chirped happily, while a confused young boy stood in the middle of the town's main square.

Subaru: « … »

He remains silent and quickly walks away from the square, a few have noticed him but have not had the opportunity to detail his appearance. Subaru starts running down a narrow alley, dimly lit and devoid of any passers-by.

Subaru: « What happened? Wasn't I supposed to be dead or... was this an anticipation of what was going to happen? »

Slowly, he takes his time to search in his plastic bag and realizes that he only has a little food, which should not last him more than two days. In his jacket pocket, he has his flip phone, the battery of which is only half charged.

Subaru: « I don't have a very good inventory, and I'm considered a sort of cultist to his people if the prediction is correct. What a shitty start… »

Suddenly, he hears footsteps heading towards him, and soon, three thugs appear. He instantly identifies the evildoer he was in his prediction and knows precisely the weapons he possesses, two blades. He had no escape route and understood that fighting would be a mistake, but it was his only opportunity to change the course of events. Subaru was determined to avoid death at all costs, as his prediction had made him feel every detail.

*What to do, I really don't want to die... Wait, I have an idea, but it could have the opposite effect of what I want... this is my last chance to not have to fight*

Subaru: « Oh what do I see! Thugs who dare to come and fight against an unarmed knight? »

Camberley (Kan): « What are you talking about? You, a knight? »

Rachins (Chin): « Wait a moment! It's the Witch Cult Monster! »

Gaston (Ton): « Now that you point it out to me, I realize that it is exactly the same as the one that appears on the city posters! »

*It's bad, they firmly believe I'm a witch cultist. I'm not going to die, I don't want to die, I'm going to stay alive*

Subaru: « Ugh ...that's right...I'm a "Monster" so leave before I have to defeat you. »

Rachins (Ton): « What is this shitty acting, did you think we were brats! »

Two blades suddenly appear in the hands of the thug, the larger one prepares for combat, while the smaller one, fiercely determined to kill me, brandishes a small dagger. It was truly the most unfavorable situation, I had no chance of winning a fight without being armed.

Just before the fight begins, a young girl runs quickly across the alley. She had fair skin, shoulder-length blonde hair tied in a black bow, and beautiful red eyes. Subaru, in a desperate situation, absolutely needed to convince her to help him in this battle.

Subaru: « Excuse me, miss! I beg you, come to my aid! These three young people with bad intentions want to murder me. »

The young thief, distraught, hesitated to help him. It was clear to her that if she did nothing and decided to leave, he would perish here, and she would be considered the cause of his death. Although her appearance is suspicious, she is aware that it is wrong to judge people based on their appearance alone.

Felt: « I'm so sorry, be strong..! »

Subaru notices that the girl said these words reluctantly; he felt hatred, but he perfectly understood her reaction. Even for a complete stranger, he would never have undertaken to endanger his life, especially if he was already busy with something else. She was gone, taking her only hope with her in an instant. This time, there was no doubt, it was the end.

As he gets closer to him, Subaru gradually begins to no longer hope for anything. Disappointed, he tries to run away, but he stumbles, the victim of a knife stuck in his right leg. The suffering was excruciating, his wound was serious and his chances of survival against his attackers were almost zero.

*I need help, no matter who it is: my parents, an enemy, even a scary creature*

The little thief steals the weapon from my leg, what is about to happen will be the beginning of the torture. The big delinquent was the only one who did not mistreat me, unlike his acolytes who had no hesitation. Rachins thrust both blades deeply into the palms of his hands, and a large amount of his own blood flowed from his body. Compared to falling off a bike, tripping on the ground, or even getting burned, this recent pain was even more excruciating. My consciousness fades and I feel death approaching, but one thought haunts me: my love for my parents. As he is about to close his eyes forever, he notices a young maid with pink hair coming towards him, but unfortunately, it is too late...

Natsuki Subaru lost his life, again.

Once again in the capital, the sun reached its zenith, the inhabitants went about their shopping, strolled with their children or their companions, thus creating perfect harmony, until a boy uttered a shrill cry of pain.

Subaru: « AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! »

He collapsed to the ground, inspecting the palms of his hands and his right leg, paying no attention to the injuries he had previously. It seemed like nothing had happened, but the pain in his mind remained intense.

When the young boy saw a crowd gathering around him, he could not help but shed tears, as the villagers stared at him with obvious hostility, and some even displayed a look of pity.

He began to run with all his might, getting further and further away. Even out of breath, he kept going. Hell was exactly what it was, and this world leaves no doubt that this is what it is. In real life, it's not like in anime where a hero emerges and gains incredible strength as well as general admiration. It was different for him: no one liked him, no one lent him a hand, no one looked for him, everyone longed for his downfall.

? : « Do you need help, sir? »

He heard a voice saying each word and it filled him with fear. Even though he spoke kindly, he hated it. The world wants nothing to do with him, and this person would be filled with contempt when observing his appearance.

Yet he stares at him anxiously, his eyes filled with fear. He was an attractive individual, sporting a mane of red hair and sparkling blue eyes, evoking a mixture of serenity and concern, while also instilling a feeling of trust. His intention was not to harm him, but to offer him assistance. The first person who didn't stare at him with a look filled with hatred, the first person who really wanted to help him, the first person who showed great gentleness towards him.

Subaru could no longer contain his tears, he started crying and collapsed on the ground. Due to lack of sleep for several days, his eyes were exhausted and he fainted.

After several hours of rest, Natsuki Subaru woke up, his face still marked by sadness and fear. He looks at the ceiling, while feeling that his right hand is clasped in that of another person. His face turns to the right, where he can see the young man he met previously, contemplating him with a sad expression.

Reinhard: « How do you feel now, sir? »

Subaru: « I'm fine, I guess. »

Reinhard: « What happened in the capital? Were you injured? »

Subaru: « The capital... no one looked at me like you do, everyone calls me a monster! THEY LOOK AT ME WITH HATE, CALL ME A MONSTER, WHEN I HAVE DONE NOTHING BAD...! I…had…so much pain… »

The knight observed his interlocutor with compassion, looking for a way to comfort him. He understood his anger, because he himself had been called a monster because of his divine power. He wrapped his arms around Subaru, trying to help him as much as he could.

Reinhard: « Everything will be fine, I'm here now. I am considered a monster by many people. »

Subaru: « How can you be considered a monster? You are so kind and helpful to me, a complete stranger. »

Reinhard: « I am… Reinhard van Astrea , the… Saint of the Sword. »

Subaru: « I don't understand, I've only just arrived so I don't know much about this world, Reinhard. My name is Natsuki Subaru. »

Suddenly, Reinhard's face transforms, he instantly recognizes this name. The Witch Cult Monster, a celebrity in the capital, was advertised all over the streets with wanted posters covering the walls. Normally he would have cut her off immediately, but he knew it wasn't the right decision.

The individual in front of him was certainly not bad; he was just a normal kid, without any divine gifts with a door being that of a newborn, nothing more. There was no malice in the boy's intentions, he simply wanted to settle the score with his own life once and for all. This person had recently gone through a period of great suffering, with very little sleep. His situation was certainly much worse than him.

Reinhard: « Natsuki Subaru, I understand now. You must... have been through a difficult time. »

Subaru: « … »

Reinhard: « It was probably a situation that you absolutely did not deserve, I swear to help you, as best as I can. »

Subaru: « Reinhard… thank you, I absolutely needed help and you are the only one who helped me… »

Reinhard: « It is my duty as a knight, to help you as best I can. What were you doing in the capital? »

Subaru: « It's a long story and hard to believe but... I came from another world and I was suddenly summoned to the capital of this world. »

The master swordsman, surprised to detect no trace of lies in Subaru's words, had no choice but to sincerely believe them. No person had ever managed to cross or reach the great waterfall, an individual who manages to do so by chance is incredible.

Reinhard: « I see, so you have no connection to the Witch Cult? »

Subaru: « I don't know what this is, how come I'm considered part of this?! »

Reinhard: « The Witch Cult is an evil organization worshiping the witch of envy. You are considered the founder of this very cult due to the fact that the Archbishops claim that every act is thanks to you, Natsuki Subaru. The people have named you Monster of the Witch Cult. »

Subaru: « How can they know I exist…and why me!? »

Reinhard: « I don't know, unfortunately. The majority of the royal guard is after you and actively seeking to kill you. »

Subaru: « Are you part of this royal guard...? »

Reinhard: « Yes but I mean you no harm, I know that you are just a person who got involved in this affair for no reason. »

Subaru: « Thank you, Reinhard. »

Suddenly, the door to the room in which they were present opens suddenly, revealing a silhouette reminiscent of Reinhard's father. His imposing build was accompanied by short red hair and deep blue eyes. He had drawn his sword, throwing it directly at me, seeming determined to kill me.

Heinkel: « How could you let this Monster in ... the Witch Cult Monster! »

In a sumptuous mansion, far from the royal capital, lived an individual wearing clown makeup in a dimly lit room. Holding in his hands a book, which he considered his most important treasure.

Roswaal : « Natsuki Subaru, a person who can single-handedly change destiny. Ram, can I have a report on your mission? »

Ram: « Yes lord, as you asked me, I went to the capital to look for the young boy but unfortunately, he was not in the alley you told me about. »

Roswaal : « I wonder why he didn't appear in the alley as expected, but whatever, he won't be hard to find based on his appearance. »

The young clown closes his book and puts it away in his bewitched drawer, turning his gaze to the moon for a brief pause. As this unfolds, Ram approaches Roswaal and takes a seat on him, maintaining his tradition of giving mana to the young servant.
