Arc 1, Chapter 2
Monsters proclaimed against a real Monster.
Heinkel: « How could you let this monster in...the monster of the witch cult! »
Reinhard instantly stands up to face his father. Typically, he never opposes his father, but when his new friend is in danger, he can't just stand by and do nothing. His sword does not judge this person as a potential enemy, even if he were, he would not have raised his weapon against him.
Reinhard: « Father, I apologize for not agreeing with you, but this person has no connection with the witch cult. I would be grateful if you would lay down your sword and find a solution to this dispute without complications. »
Heinkel: « So my son, or should I say Monster, now allies himself with the Witch Cult Monster! »
He begins to take some kind of strange object in his hands and presses it, as if it were some kind of button. Reinhard, who did not expect such a turn of events, showed some fear on his face, but Subaru was unable to determine what object the man had used.
Subaru: « What is that? »
Reinhard: « A meteor to transmit an alarm signal to the royal guard, we must leave here immediately, I am sorry. »
Suddenly, Reinhard picks Subaru up and jumps out of the window, and, to everyone's surprise, the window remains intact in front of his father. Subaru experiences an unusual, but not unpleasant, sensation that results from the master swordsman's blessings. The knight maintains a frantic pace in his race. Subaru didn't have the courage to interrupt him, wondering at the same time what could be the reasons for his actions, even though they had only just met.
Reinhard: "This is the first time I disobeyed my father, fleeing the capital while being sought by the royal guard. »
Subaru: "Why…why are you doing all this for me?" »
Reinhard: "Because you are my friend. As a friend, I can't imagine seeing you suffer until you die. That's why I wasn't able to entrust you to my father. »
Subaru: "Thank you very much but what are we going to do now? Even if you are powerful, there is nothing we can do against a sort of royal guard. »
Reinhard: "I could single-handedly defeat the entire royal guard, or even much more. That's why I'm considered a monster in my father's eyes. »
They continued on their way until they reached the outskirts of the capital, which unfortunately were already guarded by knights. Subaru and Reinhard hid near a small villager's home, contemplating how to get through the exit.
Subaru: "The guard is really fast…"
Reinhard: "Yes, due to the fact that the alarm is only triggered in the event of an enemy attack, this is the first time I have seen it activated. »
Subaru: "Do you have a plan to get through the exit without a fight?" »
Reinhard: "The knights must not know who the enemy is, if we go together we will have no problem. »
As Reinhard calmly walked towards the exit, Subaru followed with some apprehension, fearing being caught by the knights, but he did his best to look natural. Looking closely, Reinhard still exuded just as much elegance, he couldn't help but want him as a model.
Guard: "Stop!" »
Reinhard: "Greetings, dear knight. I am Reinhard van Astrea and this is my companion, we have received orders to go on a mission immediately, another city is under alert. »
Guard: "I apologize for disturbing you, Mr. Reinhard. »
They continued on their way until another guard approached Subaru. It was a young knight, probably inexperienced, who showed an expression of fear as he advanced towards Subaru. Brandishing his sword directly, he puts all the guards at his side on alert.
Young knight: "IT'S THE MONSTER OF THE WITCH CULT , NATSUKI SUBARU!" »
He spoke his words with a feeling of anger, surely this must have been a person who had lost a family member to this cult. Reinhard instantly tried to draw his sword, but without success. So he started using his own hands as weapons.
Reinhard: "This young boy is with me, he is not of the witch cult. »
Young knight: "It looks exactly like the posters posted in town! »
Guard: "Knight Loupia , I urge you to excuse yourself and allow Monsieur Reinhard and his friend to continue their mission undisturbed. »
Young Knight: "But it's… please excuse Mr. Reinhard and his friend. »
Reinhard: "It's okay, we really have to leave now, goodbye." »
He once again grabs Subaru and flees at incredible speed, the knights having witnessed the scene are speechless, it looked like a teleportation. Reinhard and Subaru continued on their way for about ten minutes before reaching the town of Hanumas . It usually takes several hours to travel from the capital to this city. He managed to do it in just ten minutes, demonstrating that Reinhard is truly one of a kind.
Reinhard: "We have arrived at our destination, this is the city of Hanumas . »
Subaru: "I guess I might be called a Monster here too?" »
Reinhard: "Unfortunately yes, we should buy a new outfit for you, and an inn to stay in for several weeks. »
Subaru: "I am forever grateful to you, Reinhard, for everything you do for me. »
Reinhard: "Don't worry, it finally gives me the opportunity to see more of the world around me. »
Subaru: "You couldn't get out of the capital before? »
Reinhard: "I could, but I am not allowed to leave the kingdom. It's a rule that was imposed solely on me. »
I really was summoned into a shitty world.
After visiting several stores, Subaru finally found the ideal outfit: a black and orange jacket that suited him perfectly. It had a hood made of wool, which gave it a certain satisfaction. Reinhard had a lot of money on him, he even gave a few coins to some people. He truly had a heart of gold.
Subaru: "Reinhard, how can I stop being considered a Monster?" »
Reinhard: "I don't know, it's probably impossible. »
Subaru: "I see, too bad, what are we going to do now? »
Reinhard: "First, I'll try to find an inn for tonight. For the rest- »
In a strange way, almost everyone in the neighborhood was gathered alongside them. Subaru begins to seriously worry, wondering if his true identity has been discovered, but Reinhard comforts him with calm and equanimity. Gradually, the young man regains his calm and observes his surroundings to discover what had aroused general interest.
A tall building, which served as a clock tower, decorated with a mosaic of glass engravings. In any metropolis or city, this building would be considered normal. Each town or village would have several of these clock towers.
? : "Excuse me for the inconvenience, my sincere apologies. »
There was now, at the top of the tower, a figure wrapped in cloth, dressed in an unusual fashion. Subaru was quite surprised, as he had never seen such a sight before. Reinhard wondered what was happening.
? : "Thank you everyone for being there for me, I promise it won't last long. »
The figure had its head wrapped in bandages, leaving only its glowing eyes visible. His body was wrapped in a black cloak and his wrists were held by a long chain that trailed behind him swinging from left to right as he walked above the tower.
He gave the crowd a strange gesture, a smile perhaps, but the bandages covering and deforming his mouth made it impossible to distinguish a comforting expression.
? "I am the Archbishop of Sins of the Witch Cult, representing Wrath, Sirius Romanée-Conti! »
The master swordsman didn't expect this kind of situation at all and instantly looks at his friend, Subaru. They had never had the opportunity to meet an Archbishop before, which represented an unexpected chance to capture him.
Subaru: "My luck is finally back!" Reinhard, we must capture this person so that we can be considered innocent again! »
Reinhard: "It's risky, we don't know what he can do and there's a big crowd there. »
Subaru: "I can't lose my only chance to be exonerated, Reinhard. »
The young boy managed to infiltrate the crowd and reach the tower without Sirius noticing him. Reinhard was perplexed and began looking around for a sword, hoping that his friend would not act rashly.
Internally, it was a large tower with a fairly large wooden staircase. Although Subaru felt some fear, he was determined not to miss this unique opportunity. It was finally his hour of glory, he perhaps held a second power than his Return by Death . He was about to reach the top when he discovered a young girl completely tied up, her hair was dark red, her eyes were blue and she was dressed like a villager.
Subaru: "It's really a monster to tie up a young girl…"
He carefully tries to untie the knots, which takes him a while, when suddenly the window opens and he comes face to face with Sirius's frightening face. Subaru, stunned, quickly grabbed the girl and began a rapid descent of the steps. While descending the steps, the young man lost his balance and fell, not from the steps themselves, but from a painful whiplash to his right leg.
Subaru was in the middle of the steps, his right leg was broken and his left arm was damaged. He observes Sirius carrying the young girl in his arms, and this triggers immense anger in him towards this monster. No matter what he might do to this girl, he's convinced it wouldn't be a good thing.
Sirius: "You dared to try to compromise the instructions of the Gospel! Your soul will feel Petra-chan's fear. She will feel your fear, […]"
A sudden fear grips them, gradually increasing as the Archbishop speaks. An intense and pervasive fear reigned, creating a dreadful feeling. This fear that never stops, can it really be possible to feel such overwhelming fear? Subaru stared at the young girl, he had the impression that she was suffering as much as he was suffering from this fear. In unison, they fell to the cold, hard wooden floor.
Natsuki Subaru and Petra Leyte succumbed to mortal fear.
