Miroku and Sango were amazed that it healed her. Sesshomaru was not surprised.
Though she was healed, she was still sore and very tired, and they could all see that on her. Hell, they were worn out, too. Kagome sat up and gave herself a moment. "I need to go to the well," Her voice cracked in exhaustion.
"It is not going anywhere, Miko, rest," Sesshomaru told her. Her eyes met his instantly. "Yeah, but I haven't gone anywhere,"
She stood up and wobbled a little. Sango and Miroku quickly stood and moved to steady her. "I need to go back to the well," Her voice was stronger.
Miroku looked back at Sesshomaru. He didn't know why the demon Lord hovering so.
Sesshomaru walked up to her. "Come,"
She looked at him. "With you?"
"Flying is faster; the monk and slayer will follow on the demon cat,"
Sango called for her cat, and Kagome slowly moved to Sesshomaru. His arm went around her waist and they took to the sky. Miroku and Sango followed.
"What do you think is going on?" Sango asked,
"You noticed it too?"
"Do you think he feels responsible for her since Inuyasha died?"
"I dont see why he would care; he never has before," Miroku told her.
Granted the demon Lord had come to help them out more than once, calling it caring was a bit of a strectch.
They landed in no time, and Kagome quickly moved away from Sesshomaru and to the well. He stood only a few feet away from her. She looked down at the old well, smelling its old, wet wood. Sadness rushed over her. Why.
Just like Inuyasha, the well that linked them was dead. She didnt even need to jump down to tell. She went to her knees and let her forehead lay against the wood.
Why was it betraying her?
Why was it keeping her from her family?
Maybe she needed to wish.
Sesshomaru smelt her tears but also felt the shift.
They all stood watching, unsure of what to say, what to offer.
"I need to make a wish," She whispered,
Sesshomaru clenched his teeth. He couldn't say no, dont, stop, wait. His desires were on the back shelf right now; the time wasn't right. Hell, time with her may never be right. They, after all, were never meant to meet.
Sango kept an eye on Kagome, whereas Miroku was watching the demon Lord. He saw the jump in Sesshomaru's mouth and knew he was clenching. But why?
Kagome stood and turned to her friends. They rushed to her and hugged her. If the wish worked, she wouldn't see them again, of that she was sure. If she ended up back home and the well opened, she wasn't sure she would return by choice.
It wasn't that she didnt love them, but soon their lives would move on.
They let her go; words were not needed, and they knew they loved each other.
The wind blew, and Kagome looked at Sesshomaru, his hair swaying elegantly in the wind.
"Thank you,
"If you do not return, Miko, I will offer you my protection,"
She half smiled and turned, but he reached out and grabbed her wrist, making her freeze to the shock of everyone.
Kagome looked at his hand, then up to his face. "Sesshomaru?"
"Do you not consider me as you do them?"
Kagome looked at her friends and then at him. "Sure I do,"
"We may never see each other again; it is my understanding that there are no demons in your time,"
"Can, can I hug you?" She had never thought to try; he wasn't someone who liked touching.
"Hn,"
Kagome moved slowly, unsure. This made her nervous. She put her body close to him and leaned in. He looked down at her, then bent. His hair moved, blocking his face and hers from Miroku and Sango. Both their eyebrows raised in shock and confusion.
Sesshomaru moved one arm around her waist, pressing her a littler more into his body. It was a half hug at best. Both are unsure, both cautious.
His arm started to move away, but his hand went to her face and he lifted her chin to look at him. His hair still healing the moment.
"Do you have the wisk?"
"I think so,"
"Do not let it have your desires, Miko," He warned.
"I dont have any desires," She whispered, closing her eyes.
He hoped that wasn't true. "The, make you wish,"
He wanted to kiss her, but it was too soon or too late, depending on what the well did.
Kagome stepped back, inhaled, and made her wish.
