"After the brutal fight in Shadow City, Leeway and Mike were left badly beaten and near death until a mysterious person intervened, saving their lives. When Leeway regained consciousness, he found himself in a room with a clean white-sheeted bed next to an empty one, presumably for Mike, who was nowhere to be seen. Despite his injuries, Leeway struggled to get up and explore.
Leeway: "Where am I? Where's Mike? I can't even find my Sikei. What's going on?"
Struggling to stand, Leeway made his way to the door.
Leeway: "Ugh, what is this place?"
Upon exploring, Leeway discovered an old-style dojo reminiscent of the one where he and his friends grew up, albeit older. Eventually, he stumbled upon a room where he found Mike with an older man who appeared slightly older than their sensei Dai, with long white hair, facial hair, and one blind eye, dressed in martial arts attire.
Leeway: "What is this? Mike, who is that?"
Mike: "Leeway, you're up. It's been four weeks."
Leeway: "A month?"
Mike: "Yes, you were badly beaten."
As Leeway attempted to approach Mike and the man, he stumbled.
Shou: "Please, Leeway, be careful. You had very deep cuts, a broken rib, a concussion, and a broken shoulder."
Leeway: "Thanks for the concern, but who are you, and why did you help us?"
Shou: "My name is Shou. I'll tell you more later, Leeway. Right now, I need you to sit here. I'll get you some tea."
After Shou left the room, Leeway expressed his concerns and asked Mike questions about their situation.
Leeway: "Mike, we've been here for a month and heard nothing from Janet or Sensei Dai?"
Mike: "Leeway, I thought you were never going to wake up in time. I recovered in just a week, ate some food, and regained my energy."
Leeway: "What about the spiritual man? Our whole mission is ruined."
Mike: "That's the thing. That man is the spiritual man, Leeway."
Leeway: "What?"
Mike: "Yeah, we made it. Master Dai would be proud."
Leeway: "So we made it, but I don't even have my Sikei."
At that moment, Shou returned with Leeway's tea and something else.
Shou: "Ah, yes, you're talking about this old thing? Believe it or not, it's older than me."
Leeway: "Thank you for giving it back. That's the reason our sensei sent us here. He said you might know something about it."
Shou: "You think Dai would've sent you on this mission just for questions about an old sword?"
Leeway: "Yes, that's what this was all for."
Shou: "No, he wanted me to train you, Leeway, in ways he knew he couldn't."
Mike: "What do you mean? Leeway is one of the most advanced fighters I know. He's already finished his training."
Shou: "Yes, Leeway is a skilled fighter, but he's more than just some random kid your sensei found."
Leeway: "What do you mean, Sir Shou?"
Shou: "Leeway, you're a Peril Monk. You're from one of the greatest martial art tribes ever founded."
Leeway: "That's what that girl and her brother kept talking about. How do you know this?"
Shou: "Because, Leeway, I'm also a Peril Monk, and your sword was passed down from your family bloodline for centuries."
Leeway: "Wait, what?"
Shou: "Just sit back, both of you. I'll explain everything."
Shou proceeded to recount everything he could remember, explaining Leeway and Mike's origins and the significance of their training as Peril Monks.
Shou: "First, the Peril Monks are a special type of human. For some reason, as far as we can remember, we always had a special way of controlling our soul energy, aka our pneuma energy, to do the stuff we do like sensing our enemies, our air blast techniques, and if you're powerful enough, flight."
Mike: "The Peril Monks sound cool, but what happened to them?"
Shou: "Yes, they were all killed besides me and now that you're here, boy, you, Leeway."
Leeway: "So I'm a Peril Monk for real? This is crazy."
Mike: "Keep going, y'all were all that powerful, how did the whole clan go extinct?"
Shou: "We were ambushed by another opposing clan, the Kan clan, or which is now known as the Kai Kan clan."
Leeway: "Kai? The man who attacked our dojo."
Shou: "Yes, we were attacked by his father 18 years ago. Him and his father's clan killed everyone before morning. We were outnumbered and caught off guard to do anything."
Mike: "You must be crazy strong because how'd you survive? or even Leeway."
Shou: "I survived thanks to y'all's Master Dai. Me and him were close before the attack. I don't wanna get into our relationship right now but he helped me escape and for Leeway, he was the Peril Monk's leader's grandson. So there was this secret training ground only the strongest will train and meditate at and so you were hidden there and Dai came back to see if there were any more survivors he can help. There was not but he did hear crying in the distance and found you. He wanted to give you to me but we had no way to contact after the attack so he left his father's clan, ran away with you, and after that, I have no idea."
Leeway: "How do you know all this?"
Shou: "Years later, he somehow found me and told me everything. He thought giving you to me was the best idea then but looking at you now, I'm glad I convinced him to keep and train you himself."
Mike: "Wow, our sensei was cool like that even when he was young."
Leeway: "This ain't making sense. Why betray his father for us?"
Shou: "Like I said, I knew Dai for many years. We were best friends even before the attack so he never understood his father's hatred towards our clan so I guess after the slaughter he snapped."
Leeway: "This is a lot to take in," he says flabbergasted at everything. "What about my Sikei?"
Shou: "Now that has an amazing story. That sword was passed down from leader to leader. Only the most powerful of our people held it. It's said that every time a leader dies, their soul is absorbed into it making the next person to wield it able to draw out that power stored inside to use it for their own."
Mike: "You got a ghost sword now that's epic."
Leeway: "That's how I'm able to learn my abilities so quick."
Shou: "Your Sikei been teaching you your whole way but now you're here and I'll teach you everything I know to make you an even stronger warrior, both of you."
Mike: "Wow, you'll train me too? I'm not a Peril Monk."
Shou: "I've seen how hard you fought and what you put your body through to protect Leeway. You have the pride of one, and so I will teach you too, Mikey."
Mike: "Aww, I'm gonna cry."
Shou: "We start tomorrow. Leeway has been told a lot and just woken up from his coma. Go enjoy today and get some fresh air."
So that's what they did," Leeway and Mike left the room. Leeway finding another purpose to fight and beat Conquerer Rai.
Leeway: "That bastard been terrorizing me ever since I been born. I'm gonna kill him. And when I see Sensei Dai again he's getting a head full 'cause why he keep this from me."
Mike: "Probably to protect you, Leeway."
Leeway: "Protect me? If he would have told me this, I would have trained harder and took it more seriously. Probably would have even been able to beat Rai."
Mike: "You were just a kid."
Leeway: "Not just a kid, a peril monk, one of the strongest warriors on this planet. My potential is crazy. What it is is that he didn't want to tell me. He helped in the slaughter of my clan, he's guilty."
Mike: "Come on, don't think of it like that. We weren't there, we don't know how he felt or why he did what he did."
Leeway: "He waited this long to give me my Grandfather's sword, a weapon that definitely would have helped out. He was hiding it on purpose."
Mike: "Leeway."
Leeway: "What, I miss him, I do, but he helped kill my clan and lied to me for 18 years. As far as I see it now, he's an enemy as well."
Mike: "An enemy would raise three kids that aren't even his?"
Leeway: "He was probably tryna turn us into some army or super soldiers."
Mike: "He let us be kids, Leeway. He most likely wanted you to just be a kid too. He obviously wanted you to figure out the truth if he told you about Shou, and he did give you your Sikei."
Leeway: "It took him 18 years, Mikey, why don't you get that? Why are you not getting how I feel?"
Mike: "I do, but I'm not gonna let you speak badly of the man we've seen as a father for years and who's probably fighting for his life or even worse, dead. He took care of us, trained us. Without him, we wouldn't be who we are now. Fuck it, we're only alive now because of him. We could've ended up like Janet, he kept you alive to learn about your past, Leeway, think about that. He meant well while going through a lot on his own."
Leeway: "What do you mean end up like Janet?" Leeway says with a little tone in his voice.
Mike: "You know what I mean. I meant to have this conversation with you back then, but we gotta-."
Leeway: "Gotta what, Mike? Janet is alive."
Mike: "We saw her get stabbed, man, her eyes rolling back, her gasping for air, ain't no way."
Leeway: "It's Janet, Mike. She's not gonna go out like that. She's too smart and too good of a fighter to be taken out by a dumb blade."
Mike: "Stop being blinded, Leeway. I know you want her to be alive, truly you know I do too, she's like a sister, but it's better to accept reality."
Leeway: "Why are we doing this now? Why talk about this now after all I've been through and discovered?"
Mike: "Because you're finally listening. Every time I tried to bring it up, you changed the subject and excuse me?"
Leeway: "What?"
Mike: "What have you been through?"
Leeway: "Yes, I lost that fight back at Shadow City and possibly lost my sister, and I've been lied to my whole life by someone I claimed to be a father."
Mike: "You're unbelievable, bro. I'm done having this conversation with you. We'll talk later. I'm gone."
Leeway: "Whatever."
Mike leaves Leeway at the front of the dojo as he goes to collect his thoughts. Leeway sits there to do the same. Both are going through a lot and having a hard time seeing each other's points of view.
Leeway walk around the dojo for a couple hours frustrated and confused shou sees this and walks up to him.
Shou:"Hey Leeway everything ok?"
Leeway:"well shou considering everything no but I can't wait for tomorrow to start training I'll like to start now if you don't mind."
Shou:"Well ok if you say so meet me in the back when you're ready."
Leeway takes a few minutes to go but eventually meets with shou and stare his training.
Leeway:"Ok Shou I have my Sikei and I'm ready to start what am I learning first."
Shou:"You're gonna have to get rid of your sword for right now."
Leeway:"What why? I need it to use my abilities shou."
Shou:"No you don't leeway that was a tool for our highly trained warriors to enhance their already controlled abilities your using it as a short cut."
Leeway:" No I'm not."
Shou:"How about the fight in shadow city as soon as your Sikei got knocked away you could no longer hold your calm state one of the easiest things peril monks can do."
Leeway:"I-"
Shou:"All it takes are emotions to use our abilities emotion and concentration."
Leeway:"Ok I can do this." Sets asides Sikei
Shou:"We will be learning calm state that's when you can lower our Pneuma energy and control your anger the user supposed to feel no anger and then."
Shou enters a warm state of ease.
Shou:"In this state time seems to slow down and you're supposed to have an enhance battle iq and evaluate an enemy's every move more used for defense. Not really used to damage an enemy but good to counter and evaluate your next moves."
Leeway:"and you said that's the easiest to learn I got this."
Leeway tries to turn into his calm state but failed he did everything Shou said so he says Shou stayed with leeway for an hour and nothing leeway starts to get frustrated.
Shou:"What's stopping you leeway what's going on in your head."
Leeway:"What nothing I'm fine it's just this is irritating me."
Shou:"you have to be able to control you-"
Leeway:"Your emotions i know."
Shou:"Leeway I know something other than you not being able to use the ability is bothering you what is it?"
Leeway sits down by the steps
Leeway:"Me and Mike got into an argument about Sensei dai and we didn't end on best terms."
Shou:"So your mad at Mike?"
Leeway:"What no he just doesn't get it."
Shou:"So you're mad at your sensei ."
Leeway:"Yes but no I don't know."
Shou:"It sounds like you and Mike need to finish yall discussion have a real talk with each other. Where is he."
Leeway:" I don't know he stormed off after everthing."
Shou:"Well go find him get over this I'll be waiting and plus I'm supposed to be training him to."
Leeway:"Well ok Shou if you say so."
Leeway goes to grabs his sikei.
Shou:"leave that here just go."
Mike's been gone for hours, gathering his thoughts. He made his way back to Shadow City, frustrated and trying to understand where Leeway was coming from, but couldn't understand it. As he's walking the streets, he runs into a little store being robbed. He didn't want to cause too much commotion, but he chose to just to get his mind off the situation.
Robber one: "Hurry up, give us everything."
Robber two: "If the cops show up, I'm going to make sure the little girl goes first."
Elder woman: "Okay, please don't get her. I'm going as fast as I can."
Little girl: "Don't listen to them, Ms. Mimi, these bastards won't do anything."
Robber two covers the little girl's mouth.
Robber two: "Shut the hell up!"
Robber one: "I'm getting impatient with you, old lady."
Robber two: "Very."
That's when the little girl bites the robber's hand, causing him to let go of her in pain. After that, the little girl grabs a jar from off the shelves and hits the robber in the knee with it, causing him to fall to her level. Mike grabs another jar and goes for his head, but the other robber kicks her away.
Robber one: "You really let a little girl beat you up."
Robber two: "She bit me."
Little girl: "Can't handle little old me? Ha haaa."
Robber two: "You know what, you dumb little kid?"
He points his gun at her.
Robber two: "Laugh at this, tramp."
Old woman: "Please don't!!!"
Before he can pull the trigger, Mike throws something right at his hand, making him drop the gun.
Robber two: "Ow, who the hell are you?"
Mike: "Leave these ladies alone. I won't ask again."
Robber two: "What are you doing? Shoot that freak."
Robber one blows shots right at Mike's direction, but Mike, not being just a regular human, moves quickly, knocking robber one down, making him drop his weapon.
Robber one: "What the hell?"
Mike: "I asked nicely."
Mike kicks the robber right into a shelf, knocking him out, and that's when the other robber goes for Mike from behind. Before Mike dodges, the little girl throws a jar of pickles at his head, knocking him out cold.
Little girl: "Take that, you trash."
Old lady Mimi: "Oh my, thank you so much, sir. You look very familiar."
Mike: "Yeah, I've got a very familiar face," Mike says awkwardly.
Little girl: "Mimi, did you see that?"
Old lady Mimi: "Yes, I did. You could've gotten hurt."
Mike: "Yeah, little girl, are you okay?"
Little girl: "Yes, I'm fine. I could have handled those two idiots, but thanks for the help, I guess."
Mike: "Yeah, I know you could have. You are real brave. What's your name?"
Little girl: "My name's Micra. I was taught by one of my friends how to stick up for myself and others I care about."
Mike: "Your friend taught you to hit people with jars?" Mike said sarcastically.
Micra: "Basically, if you don't have the strength, use your surroundings."
Mimi: "Ok, Micra, I need you to go before the cops get here. It's gonna be a lot of work to get this cleaned up."
Micra: "I can help."
Mimi: "Thanks, Micra, but you've been gone from the orphanage all day. I know Lady Terra's worried."
Micra: "Fine, okay, I'll see you later."
Mimi: "Excuse me, sir, can you please walk with her, make sure she gets back safely?"
Mike: "Okay, ma'am, I'll watch her."
Micra: "Then hurry up."
Mike walked with the young girl back to her orphanage. While they talked, Mike found out a lot about this girl.
Mike: "Well, here we are, go ahead."
Micra: "I hate this place. My only friend is gone, and the other kids here aren't the best to get along with."
Mike: "What do you mean?"
Micra: "Since, like, I'm smarter than the average adult, they don't really get me, and they pick on me for it. When my friend was here, he used to help me with them, but it just got worse since he left."
Mike: "Well, tell them you know one of the legendary ninjas, and if they keep picking, I'll come do something about it."
Micra: "Yeah, no thanks. I'll definitely not gonna hear the end of that one."
Mike: "Oh," says with a frown.
Micra: "But can you please do something for me if you are a real legend?"
Mike: "Sure, anything."
Micra: "Find my friend."
Mike: "Huh?"
Micra: "His name is Zest, and he just disappeared one day without saying anything and leaving no trace. I know something's happened to him. He would have told me before he just upped and left."
Mike: "Why do you think something happened to him, Micra?"
Micra: "One day he told me people were coming for him, and he had a very serious look on his face. The next day, he was gone, no trace." Micra takes a deep breath. "I need you to promise me, legend, that you're gonna find my Zest for me."
Mike: "Micra, I promise you I'll figure out what happened to Zest."
Micra, happy with his answer, goes into the orphanage, and that's when Leeway shows up.
Leeway: "Mike, I was looking for you everywhere. You okay?"
Mike: "Yes, I'm fine."
Leeway: "Okay, good. Let's go back, and we need to talk."
Mike: "Yes, we do."
Leeway and Mike head back to the old dojo with Shou ready to train and have a heart-to-heart. This is only the beginning of something great for the both of them.
