Chapter 42: Missing
"Orestes!" My friends and I went over to greet him while I added.
"Boy are we glad to see you, what are you doing here?"
The owl gives us a small smile, also happy to see us. "When my father was in for you two with the rat colony, I decided to join him hoping I can find three of you."
Before Shade could question why while seeing his facial starting to look irritated Orestes finishes it sadly.
"And I even tried to convince my father Goth killed the owls."
"Did he?" I asked, having a tiny hope he might finally come to his senses. Sadly he shook his head.
"No he still never listens to me," He answered. I made a disappointed sigh but then it was cut short when Shade spoke out.
"No matter, Goth and Throbb are looking for hibernaculum."
"So is my dad!" Orestes gasped. It made the three of us have a horrified look.
"Brutus?" Marina turns to us."We got to get there first and warn them," Orestes nodded and peeked his head out to check out to see if it was all clear. I decided to perk my head out and watch him walk a few steps.
Then he gasped when I almost walked out.
"Get back in!" He used his wing to shove me back into the hole right before I heard another owl screech coming. All three of us didn't make a sound as we heard Orestes commenting about finding some spiders in the hole.
I was a relief when the owl soldier took his words and flew away to keep on scouting. About a few seconds later, Orestes peeked his head in, smiling.
"The ghost is clear," We walked out and Orestes let me climb on his back and we began to make our way through the city.
But we flew low in case any other owls spotted up from above and were relieved that there weren't any pigeons guarding this city. Right when we pass the small store with a bunch of TVs. I suddenly heard someone calling my name making me gasp and look back.
"Orestes go back!"
"What?" He looks up at me in confusion and I point in the other direction.
"I think someone called my name, I think it's my dad!" I made him turn a little and we flew back. Shade saw what I was doing and he flew fast beside us, looking at me with puzzlement.
"Ash is this way, what are you doing?" He and Orestes, including Marina all landed on the sidewalk where I thought I heard him and I searched around to find him. Shade then added
"Do you hear him?" I asked.
"Hear who?" Marina questions.
"My dad!" I answered and smiled happily. "He's here, he's calling me." I kept looking all over the above. to find him. But the streets were empty. No humans were walking around this late at night. It was only us on a dark street.
After about a few minutes of silence, Shade spoke softly. "Ash, I don't think he's here,"
Didn't want to lose hope I kept searching. "But he has to be here! I heard him calling me." I couldn't even help to yell for him.
"Dad! Dad!"
"Ashlie shh!" Marina shushed me and looked up nervously. "You want to whole owls to hear us?"
"But I thought.."Again I tried to look for him. "I swear I did hear him. I did."
"Hey Ash! Why there's two of you?" I overhead Orestes asked. I turned to him not understanding why he asked this but his eyes were glued to the TVs looking surprised. I look over to see what he was looking and my eyes widen.
The breaking news report was on and I found my image on the screen and the words on the bottom read.
Missing.
All three of us listened to the news but Marina and Shade looked as shocked as I was.
"We still have not heard any more news on where this woman is. It's been weeks since she went missing. The last time she was last seen was camping with her father." Hearing all of this, I was stunned, covering my mouth. It's been weekssince I had gone migration with Shade.
Then the video shows the abandoned camp I was at when I got shrunk. They showed my giant clothing and said. "It's expected to believe that she was somehow abducted and was taken on this spot..."
I turned away devastated. All this time my dad thinks I got kidnapped and now they are on a search party looking for me. I shut my eyes and can't imagine my father's face when he learned his daughter was gone, After discovering she wasn't in her tent that morning.
And I couldn't even bear how he was going to explain my sudden disappearance to my mom back home.
I then felt someone touch my shoulder and my eyes slowly opened. Shade was looking at me with sympathy.
"We'll get you back to you're Dad, I promise," He said softly. I took a deep breath and then looked back at the TV and saw the number given in case someone miraculously found me.
Despite my heart feeling heavy for my parents, Shade's colony needs to be saved first. I look over at him and gently touch his hand, having a sad smile on my face.
"First your colony and then my family," I watch his eyes widen from my decision and sigh heavily, but then instead of saying anything, he gives me a soft smile. I look at my other friends and slowly realize they're also my family. Without them, I would've been dead in their world. And I never felt ever so blessed to have them.
I nodded and said towards Shade. "Let's go,"
"What are you four doing here?" I jumped in startled and the four of us turned fast and saw a brownish rat marching us. He was giving us an irritated look but mostly glaring at my bat friends and me.
"You three have caused enough trouble to my colony, now beat it!"
"Hey we're just leaving," Marina frowned. "And you should be grateful you have Romulus as your king."
The rat just gave us a scoff. "No matter which King I served I want everything to be back the way it was."
Shade huffed and Orestes nervously leaned his wing down so I could climb up on his back.
"Oh, furless?" I turned and saw the rat raise his eyebrows. "You should be more careful around this night. You humans are, quite vulnerable at these hours.
"I know," I sighed. But I have friends that'll help me though," I smiled at them and then looked back at the rat.
"But thank you for your.. little concern." I watch the rat make a small smile.
"It's my pleasure human, now get!" With that, the four of us took off and made our way towards another sound map location.
Third's person POV
Right after the four left, the rat makes his way back to his colony. He stops for a moment and glances up at the four flying away. The rat forms a dark smirk, showing his black fangs.
"Hmm how interesting," He then notices two giant bats following them. He hums in curiosity and watches them fly away in the distance.
The rat chuckled lowly. "Well, things are getting more exciting than I expected.
