Okay, so this is gonna be a new one. Long have I wanted to do a Batman: Arkham series fic, but have never actually gotten around to making one, namely because I couldn't think of any good ideas. However, I recently got the surge of ideas into my head when I thought of bringing back my OC Ryan Parker AKA Wolf-Spider, and putting him into the Batman Arkham series. Not like crossing worlds, I mean, there's enough of that out there.
Basically, the synopsis of this story is Ryan goes to Gotham on a favor for his younger brother, Peter, to get a picture of the Batman for the Bugle, and along the way does his crime-fighting stuff as Wolf-Spider and soon gets roped into the Arkham Origins plotline when Black Mask puts a bounty on Batman's head... as well as the Wolf-Spider's.
Hope you enjoy this, because I sure as hell will.
And as for if this will touch into the other games in the Arkham series, sans Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League because I despise that game's existence. I don't consider that canon in the Arkhamverse, it's just set in another universe. The Arkham series ended with Arkham Knight in my opinion.
Disclaimer: I do not own Spider-Man or Batman: Arkham Asylum. I only own the OC Ryan Parker/Wolf-Spider.
"I swear, Peter, this is the last favour I'm doing for you until you do one for me." Ryan Parker groaned to his younger brother on the phone while getting off the plane and heading for the terminal, looking for the exit where the taxis will be. "Honestly, I know Jameson can be a bit of a grouch and stressing a shell for a boss, which makes me still wonder why you work there, but I never thought you'd back out of a assignment."
"Come on, big bro, don't say it like that!" Peter whined on the other end, making Ryan roll his eyes in amusement. "You know I had plans with MJ even before Jameson gave me that assignment. Look, I've given you the camera, all you need to do is snap a picture of the Batman, maybe try and get an interview with Bryce Wayne, and head on back to New York. I'll split the money between us as Jameson is offering a good amount for a picture."
"An interview with Bruce Wayne? Do I look like a reporter, Pete?" Ryan sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'll get the picture, but like I said-"
"I know, I know, I owe you one." Peter rolled his eyes on the other end, not that Ryan could see it. "And don't worry, New York can do without it's deadly Wolf-Spider stalking the streets for a couple of days."
"And leave you to get yourself into trouble with me not there to get you out of it like always?" Ryan raised a brow, even though Peter couldn't see it.
"Hey! I had Rhino on the ropes before I got blindsided by Electro." Peter said, and Ryan knew his brother was pouting a little, not that Peter would admit that. He did not pout. At all. Ryan very much disagreed and had teased him constantly each time he pouted.
"Leaving me to save your ass." Ryan reminded with a chuckle. He then exited the airport and waved down a taxi. "Alright Pete, I'm getting a tai to Gotham. I'll talk to you when I get to the hotel, and then I'll go see what I can find that'll lead me to the Bat. Maybe have Wolf-Spider come out to check some things, as I got a lead that a weapons deal was going down between the Dragon Tails and the crew of some guy named the Penguin."
"First off; who's your lead? Secondly, the Penguin? Oh God, I bet he was bullied in school if that was a nickname." Peter snickered.
"Yeah, yeah." Ryan rolled his eyes with a grin. "And to answer your first question... Felicia told me to say hi."
"Of course, it would be her." Peter grumbled. There was silence on his end before he spoke. "Okay, I gotta go. MJ's nearly ready for our date tonight. I'll catch you later, big brother!"
"Stay safe and out of trouble, you hear me?" Ryan said sternly.
"Aye aye, captain!" Peter said in a poor pirate voice before hanging up, leaving Ryan shaking his head in amusement as he got into the taxi.
"Idiot." He chuckled then said. "Gotham City, please."
Gotham City was quite a sight compared to New York, though the biting and chilling winds of winter didn't make too much of a difference for Ryan as the snowy roads and pavements were very commonly seen in New York these days. Regardless, it didn't derail him from his job, though he had to wait until the cover of darkness to go out searching for the city's resident vigilante... and he also was looking for the weapons deal between the Dragon Tails gang and the Penguin's crew.
Thanks to Felicia, he knew a few things about the Penguin. His name is Oswald Cobblepot. In the public eye, he's seen as a reputable businessman to the people of Gotham, but in reality, was a sadistic, mass murdering gang leader. He was born to one of Gotham's wealthiest families, a dynasty of generals, mayors, and industrialists. The Cobblepots were among the founding fathers of the city, however, a long-standing rivalry with the Wayne Family led to them encountering financial difficulties and had them neglect their successful newspaper business in favor of a hotel chain.
As a result of those difficulties, Oswald's father, Tucker Cobblepot, neglected his son, and packed him off to boarding school in London. Feeling abandoned and ostracized by his fellow students for his grotesque appearance, Oswald skipped more and more classes, and preferred to associate with the criminal elements and other unsavory types outside of school.
Eventually, the family businesses, and Penguin's father along with them, went bankrupt, which gave Oswald a lifelong grudge against the Wayne Family.
'He and Scorpion would get along well when it comes to holding a grudge for years.' Ryan thought as he, in his Wolf-Spider costume which was a black suit with a red spider on the chest and back, and red lenses that narrow and widen, opened a window and hopped out onto the fire escape. He shot a webline out and took off swinging.
Anyway, Felicia had contacted him to let him know the deal will probably go down at one of the warehouses in Gotham, perhaps in the East End, or at the docks. She wasn't sure if the Penguin himself will be there, but if it was then Ryan would have a chance to take down one of the city's biggest crime lords. Although, he didn't know how long that would last as he heard rumours of the corruption in the Gotham City Police Department.
And here he thought things were bad in New York with some cops in the pocket of the Kingpin.
As he swung through the city, Ryan's nose caught the scent of gunpowder, and his ears perked as he heard the faint sound of a gunshot. His eyes snapped to the left, spotting a warehouse a couple of blocks away. Thanks to his enhanced senses, he was able to smell the gunpowder and pick up the gunshot.
Changing direction, he shot two weblines and propelled himself straight for the building, flipping at the last moment to pull himself up onto the roof and approach the skylight to get a better view.
'Looks like I've found the weapons deal.' Ryan thought as he saw a few men dressed in clothing with a dragon insignia on their jackets, speaking with some men dressed in black. Must be the Penguin's crew. Ryan opened the skylight and quietly crawled in.
"This had better be worth the trouble." One of Penguin's men growled as he took an AK from one of the Dragon Tails. "The boss doesn't tolerate poor results, especially with this brewing turf war between him and Black Mask."
"Hey, we could've stuck to our agreement with him and just given the weapons to him, but your boss offered a pretty good amount to deliver these to him." The Dragon Tail retorted.
Penguin's man grunted before he placed the weapon back on the table that had a good amount of firearms on display. "Well, you upheld your end of the deal, time to get paid."
Silently, ryan switched his webshooters from normal webshots to electric webs while eyeing a nearby breaker box that had a loose covering. He aimed and fired off a single shot, sparking the wires and soon enough the lights went out.
"What the fuck?" One of the men shouted.
"Shit, what happened?!"
"The lights went out!"
"Shut it, all off you! Joey, go check the breaker."
Joey turned his flashlight on and walked away to where the breaker box was located, frowning as he saw it sparking. As he moved to check it, he was gripped by the back of his hair and his head slammed into the wall hard enough to knock him out.
However, the commotion did catch the attention of the other gangsters as they turned their torches on to provide some light in the darkness. "The hell was that?" One of the Dragon Tails asked, shivering a little as the cold blew in from the open skylight.
"Joey?" One of Penguin's men called as he walked off to check on him. "Hey man, don't go silent. What, you're embarrassed you don't know how to work a-"
A webline shot out of the darkness, attached to his chest, and he was yanked forward which resulted in him colding with a fist that knocked him out cold.
"Jesus, Mark?!" One of Penguin's men shouted, having spotted his friend be yanked and then dropped. He aimed his gun and fired off a couple of shots into the air.
"James! Hold your fire, for fuck's sake!" The thug in charge growled at him, smacking him upside the head with his pistol.
"Ow! Sorry, but we're clearly not alone!" James exclaimed.
"Think it's the Bat?" Another of Penguin's men asked fearfully, clutching his gun while checking the roof.
"Not even close."
The thug turned and screamed as his light shined on a dark figure with red lenses before he was punched across the face.
"It's the Wolf-Spider!" One of the Dragon Tails yelled.
"Shoot him!" Another yelled.
Ryan shot off into the darkness as the Dragon Tails and Penguin's men fired at where he had stood, and then began firing all around in hopes of hitting him. It didn't help that they only had their torches to provide them light. Ryan crawled along the roof and shot two weblines at two Dragon Tails thugs, yanking them up to the ceiling where he webbed them up, including their mouths to keep them quiet. He then dropped down and grabbed one of Penguin's men in a chokehold, jumping back into the darkness and quickly incapacitating the thug.
One by one, he took them out until only one thug was left standing, shaking in fear. He heard footsteps to his left and fired, then fired all around with a scream. When he stopped, everything seemed to go silent.
The thug snarled before yelling. "WHERE ARE YOU?!"
"Here." A voice said quietly behind him.
The thug gasped and turned, but everything soon went dark for him afterwards.
When GCPD eventually arrived to the call of gunshots, they found two groups of men tied up in webs while groaning from their bruises and injuries.
Above the building, Ryan watched the cops take the men into custody and chuckled. "Not bad for a first night in Gotham I suppose." He said and swung off back to the hotel to get some good night's sleep. He can look for Batman tomorrow night.
"And that's it, boss." A thug said. He wore a black mask and a black suit, and was currently standing before a man dressed in a sharp white business suit along with a black mask.
"I see..." Black Mask hummed. "So, it appears a spider has strayed from it's hovel called New York and found itself in unknown territory. Now, I can't allow that, can I?" He chuckled a little before composing himself. "Looks like the assassins are gonna have two targets to collect payment from. Oh, this is going to be fun..."
And that's it for the first chapter, everyone. Let me know what you think in the reviews, please. I tried making it as interesting as I can. Now, as for info about Ryan Parker.
He's a year older than Peter, is in his early twenties with short dark hair and hazel eyes. He is a little more muscular than Peter, almost the same build as Batman. Unlike Peter, who was bitten by a radioactive spider, Ryan was bitten by a genetically altered wolf-spider from OSCORP, which granted him similar powers to Spider-Man, though his senses were far more greater than ordinary human levels, including sight, hearing and smell. Ryan eventually discovered Peter was similar to him, and the two kept their powers secret from anyone else.
Eventually, after Ben Parker's death, they became the heroes Spider-Man and Wolf-Spider, although Wolf-Spider is more of a brutal fighter than Spider-Man. Like, a little bit like Batman during his early years but not so much with anger, only the brutality which he has toned down a little bit but still takes his opponents down hard and more often than not leaves them with broken, shattered limbs.
Hope this helps give a little insight into Ryan Parker even if it's not much. Give this story a chance, please.
Oh, and as for Ryan's suit, it's the Dark Suit from Marvel's Spider-Man, the one earned after completing the Black Cat stakeouts.
