The Grapes' Grasp
Polympians Event 2024
Percy had never quite given it much thought what he wanted to do after graduation. Ever since he was twelve, quite frankly, 'graduation' and 'adult job' seemed either millennia away or… impossible. He remembered, very often, thinking that he wouldn't survive the war anyway, why bother, why worry. And then he had survived the war. And another war after that.
And after that, he went back to high school. Had to repeat the year, of course – months of being memory-wiped on the streets did make it hard to pass a school year – but with no third war right around the corner, he then finally got to actually graduate.
The Giant War had pointed him into the direction he wanted to go though. His memories had been stolen and he'd been transported to the other end of the states and somehow, Camp Half-Blood had lost their bloody minds without him. They sent two fully untrained and young demigods – Leo and Piper – all alone with Annabeth, Jason and an elderly, technically retired satyr with anger-management issues. How Coach Hedge had gotten the spot on the Argo II instead of Grover, who had proven himself so much during the Titan War, was fully beyond Percy. So was the fact that they inexplicably built a flying warship – something that uselessly took six months time, whereas Mrs. O'Leary was literally one jump away from going anywhere in the world, and something that was also obviously going to be perceived as a threat by the Romans, on account of being a warship – and yet they had only put five people onto that warship. Why would they waste months on building a ship and not stock it up with demigods, that seemed like the only useful thing a whole ship would do, allow them to transport an actual team. Put some veteran demigods onto the ship, like the Stolls or Clarisse – who had looked at Clarisse la Rue, daughter of war, who had fought at the front line during the Titan Warand had years of questing experience, and thought 'oh yeah, she is the one who should stay behind to take care of the pregnant nymph', like there weren't actually a whole grove of nymphs to take care of her, who had thought that was a good plan. And they called him Seaweed Brain, sure – instead of only sending two experienced demigods with two demigods who had one quest of experience. And, Percy understood why Leo and Piper had been sent, they'd been chosen, they'd gotten tangled up in this nonsense the same way most demigods were – but they should have had back-up, they should have had older, experienced demigods with them.
So Percy Jackson became a camp counselor at Camp Half-Blood, to make sure this never happened again. To make sure a demigod with experience would take charge, would help the young and inexperienced demigods (the only plausible reason Percy could think of for why Annabeth had let that nonsense happen was that she was too worried about him to think straight, since they were inseparable best friends). If there was going to be another war in his life-time, he wanted to be there to support the young, inexperienced demigods who were inevitably going to be dragged into it, and he wanted to make sure that they had back-up and that they knew they could rely on the old guard.
That was how Percy Jackson had become a camp counselor. In this new position, his dynamic with Dionysus… changed. The god still pretended not to know Percy's name for a couple months, but they spent their evenings playing cards with Chiron, they sat together on the porch and talked. He got to know Dionysus, the real Dionysus, not the god who kept his distance from the countless demigods because what was the point of getting attached, as an immortal, he was just doomed to see them perish, he'd learned his lesson a long time ago. In the long nights, when it was just the two of them, Percy got to see a different side. A more vulnerable side. The man who'd picked up the pieces of Ariadne all those years ago, when Theseus had left her. That was the man Percy fell in love with. And it was so easy to fall in love with him.
The fun bit started later on, once their relationship had gone on for a couple months. Dionysus was a caring, gentle and warm lover. He was, however, also a very possessive and jealous lover, as Percy came to notice when the summer started and new campers arrived, the non-year rounders. The teens were so excited to see the Percy Jackson as their new trainer at camp. He was a real-life hero, the savior of Olympus. It was history, happening in their life-time. Heracles, Jason, Theseus, the original Perseus, those were so far in the past, but Percy, he was right here, right now.
Hero-worship and admiration was not the only ones he was being met with though. No, so many of those kids developed a quick crush on Percy. He was not just a great hero, he was also good-looking, he wasn't 'old', like Dionysus or Chiron, he was only in his twenties, and Percy remembered what it was like to be a teen and how grown-up he'd felt back then and how easy it was to have crushes on young adults. Honestly, Percy found it flattering and adorable. He didn't plan on giving any of them false hope or real hope, he was definitely not interested in teenagers, those were whole kids to him, especially those whom he watched over and trained.
Dionysus did not find it cute. He glared holes into the backs of the heads of those poor kids, put possessive arms around Percy in a show of 'mine' (that should not be as hot to Percy as it was, quite frankly). And he liked to mark his territory. Not just with the hickeys he left behind on Percy's neck. There was jewelry involved too. A beautiful charm hung off Percy's camp necklace, among his beads, a little bunch of grapes made from amethysts that curled vines of gold around the leather-band. A bracelet of golden vines was woven around his wrist. It was cute, Percy loved the possessiveness, loved feeling so spoiled by the god. It made him feel like more than just another fling for a god. It made him feel like he mattered to Dionysus.
"Pretty jewel," Dionysus' voice was a growl as he wrapped his arms around Percy's waist.
It was the bonfire and Percy had just finished the story of the Golden Fleece, about half a dozen kids hanging off his every word. Chuckling amused, Percy leaned back against his lover, who was glaring at one of the kids in particular, who had a huge crush on Percy.
"Hey, babe," Percy tilted his head back, baring his throat in the process.
Dionysus made a pleased noise, momentarily distracted from glaring at the teens by kissing that tempting neck. So easy. Percy's eyes trailed to his wrist, twinkling with amusement as a grape vine unfurled to gently brush against Percy's skin. They'd started reacting to him, even when Dionysus wasn't there. His lover's touch, even in his absence.
"Please stop scaring the kids, you know you put the literal fear of the gods in them."
Dionysus grumbled, his grip tightened. "If they would stop looking at what is mine."
Percy rolled his eyes, more fond than annoyed. He did like this side of his lover, after all.

Author's note: I know this prompt could work for. honestly. most gods, but something about it really made me want to go with Dionysus, specifically with Dionysus jealous of bratty campers who DARE have crushes on HIS Percy! Hope you liked it! If you did, let me know in the comments ;)
