A knock came at the door of the Seville household. The only one left home to be able to open the door was none other than the head of the family, Dave Seville. He left his office and headed towards the front door. When he looked into the door viewer, he saw nothing. He shrugged it off before another knock came at the door. When he opened it, underneath his resting line of sight was none other than Vinny. His eyes lit up in joy at his guest.
Dave: Vinny! You're back!
Vinny: Good morning David. It's a pleasure to return at last.
Dave: Welcome! Come in, come in.
Vinny, blushing: Thank you.
Dave led the mother chipmunk along into the house and towards the living room as he closed the front door behind them.
Dave: If only you'd told me you were coming back today. I would have ordered something nice for dinner tonight.
Vinny, surprised and upset: You didn't get my "Text Message"? I-I sent it just the way you showed me!
Dave took a second to think about it, then he had a moment of revelation.
Dave: Oh Vinny, did you forget that you don't have signal at the state park?
Vinny, embarrassed: ...I... may have forgotten.
The two of them shared a small laugh before Dave helped Vinny sit down on the couch. After a while he came back with a freshly brewed tea. She gladly accepted the cup and Dave joined her on the couch beside her.
Dave: Just the way you like it.
Vinny: Thank you, no one brews my favorite like you David.
She looked around to see an empty house.
Vinny: Where are the boys? Surely they wouldn't forget to greet their mother when she comes home?
Dave: Oh, the boys are with the girls trying one of Simon's newest games. Sounds like it'll be an exciting adventure.
Vinny sighed: You can tell me a million times about these 'video games' they play and I still won't be able to understand them...
Dave: Yeah... me neither. But they're having fun at least.
Vinny, smiling: Yes, and we have each other's company.
Dave: That's right.
PART 2:
Vinny walked down the hall of the house and paused by the door to Simon's workshop, formerly known as the basement, where the group is experiencing their game.
Vinny: A-And you say they're down below? Playing their "video game"?
Dave from the other side of the house: That's right! It's a pretty big setup in there!
Vinny: Are you sure it's safe down there? Won't they come back up?
Dave: Simon explicitly said that tampering with the machine could be dangerous. It would be like trying to wake someone up from sleep walking.
Vinny: Oh my! Simon may be a genius but that seems like too much.
Dave: It's alright Vinny, they're adults now. They can make their own choices on how to spend their free time. And that's just how technology is nowadays.
Vinny thought for a moment and let her imagination run wild. Then she shook her head and snapped out of it.
Vinny: If that's where we are at with technology, then count me out.
