Hey everyone, here's chapter 5 of The Spectacular Spider-Vee. Not much else to say, so here we go.
"Alright, that's the last of it," Vee said, placing groceries on the table.
"Thank you, mija," Camila replied.
Camila and Vee proceeded to put all the groceries in their respective places. Once that was taken care of, Camila had gone to retrieve the mail. While her mom went to get the mail, Vee had decided to get herself a drink. When she touched the refrigerator door though, a spark of electricity had shocked her.
"Ow!" Vee winced, shaking her hand, "What the?" she looked at the fridge then at her hand.
That's never happened before. Especially since it was actual electricity that shocked her instead of static. The strange part was the spark was magenta in color. Ice cubes had even come out of the dispenser. Was this a new power?
Carefully, Vee opened the refrigerator door with the tips of her fingers. She quickly grabbed a can of Mountain Dew Voltage before quickly closing the door with her foot. Vee sighed and cracked the can open.
Camila came back, going through the mail as she walked in. It was mostly junk mail and coupons for fast food places (they still mailed out coupons?). However, there was one piece of mail that really caught Camila's attention.
"¡Vaya! ¡¿Qué demonios?! (Whoa! What the hell?!)" Camila shouted upon reading the letter.
"What is it, Mom?" Vee asked, taking a sip of Mountain Dew.
"The landlord. He increased the rent on this place… and we haven't even been here a month yet!" Camila said, throwing her arms to the side.
"How much is the rent now?" Vee asked. Her mom showed her the price which made Vee's eyes go wide, "Whoa!"
Vee was surprised by this but at the same time she wasn't. She knew there were landlords out there that would that would hike up the price of the rent just get a few extra bucks out of their tenants. That was especially true here in New York.
"That's totally unfair. He shouldn't be allowed to just spike up the rent like that," Vee said.
Camila sighed, "I know, it's messed up," she said, massaging her temple.
"Don't worry, Mom, I'll find a way to get us some extra money," Vee reassured.
"That's sweet of you, mija, but don't worry. I'll be able to get us through on my own," Camila replied, ruffling Vee's hair, "…For a while at least," she muttered, "Hey, why don't you go out and spend time with your friends?"
"Alright. I'm supposed to be meeting up with them anyway," Vee shrugged, "Hasta luego, Mamá, (See you later, Mom)" she said while walking out.
Wittebane Inc…
Wittebane Inc, one of the biggest corporations in all of New York. Its CEO, Phillip Wittebane, was standing in front of his office window, looking down at the city below, in a buisness suit probably cost more than a new car. That's when the door burst open.
"Whittebane!" a bald elderly man shouted as he barged in, "How dare you!"
"Hello, Adrian," Phillip greeted the old man.
"Wittebane Inc announced the development of the flight suit!" Adrian said.
"Yes. What's your point?" Phillip asked, his tone not wavering.
"The plans for the flight suit were mine! I brought the idea to you months ago and you rejected them! Those were my plans, my research, my ideas that you stole! You announced the plans for my flight suit and never once gave me credit for it!" Adrian yelled.
"I'm afraid you're mistaken, Adrian," Phillip turned to the old man, "When you signed the revised contract, you signed away rights to any and all technology and devices that are made here at this company. So, really, everything you've made here since then now belongs to Wittebane Incorporated. Including the flight suit."
Adrian growled, gritting his teeth and clenching his fists.
"Besides, all of these decades and you never had one success to your name. If you were unable to develop this technology as a young man, what makes you think people would believe you developed it as an old one?" Phillip asked in a snarky, slightly mocking tone, a cold gaze within his eyes.
"You…" Adrian muttered angrily. He heard the security guards pop their knuckles, daring him to give them an excuse to throw him out, "You will pay for this…" he muttered with a glare before storming out.
As Adrian walked down the hall, he saw Hunter.
"Hello, Mr. Toomes," Hunter greeted him.
"Things were better when your father was in charge," Adrian growled as they passed each other, not even bothering to look at the teen as he boarded the elevator.
Hunter was left to look on quizzically.
The City…
Vee stepped into one of the many diners within the city. It was like one of those old timey diners that you'd see in the desert on a road trip. The kind where you'd see bikers stop at. When Vee arrived, she immediately saw most of her friends at a booth.
"Hey guys," Vee greeted the two.
"Hey girl," Masha greeted back.
"You ok, Vee? You look like something's bothering you," Beth asked as her friend took a seat, noticing the girl's somewhat concerned expression.
"Huh? Oh, uh… I'm just going through some stuff," Vee said rather vaguely, "Where's Vince?"
"He's helping Dr. Connors with some research," Masha told her, "You want to talk about what's bugging you?"
"Well, I won't go into detail, but let's just say I need to make some money fast," Vee told them.
"I could loan you the money," Lance offered.
"That's nice of you, Lance, but I'd rather earn the money myself," Vee replied, "Besides, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to loan me the amount of money I need."
"Well, actually, I—"
"You could do some odd jobs," Beth spoke, interrupting Lance, "There's tons of stuff you could do around the city to make money," she told Vee.
"She's right. You could walk dogs, mow lawns, paint fences, stuff like that," Masha said, taking a sip of her espresso.
"Hmm. Maybe…" Vee rubbed her chin.
"Yeah, just use Chore Cheetah," Beth said.
"Chore Cheetah? What's that?" Vee raised an eyebrow.
"It's an app that allows you to make quick cash by doing small, meaningless jobs for people," Lance informed her.
"Hmm…" Vee smirked.
Montage…
*She Works Hard for the Money plays in the background*
The first job Vee tried was making coffee as a barista. She poured the drinks for the customers. It was easy thanks to the machine. However, when she was making an extra-large drink for a customer, something happened. Like earlier with the ice dispenser, there was a spark of electricity when she touched the machine. This time though, the spark was larger, and while it did hurt, it didn't hurt as much as the first time. The spark had made the machine go haywire, coffee and other liquids getting everywhere.
The second job Vee tried was setting up a big screen TV along with a game console. It was a surprise for an old lady's grandson. Thanks to her spider strength, she was able to lift the whole thing by herself. Vee was able to mount the TV on the wall and hook up the console. She plugged the console into the outlet without a problem, but when she plugged in the TV, there was another spark of electricity. This caused the fuse to blow and all the power within the house to go out.
The third job Vee tried was screwing in lightbulbs. She had to screw in those long, tube-shaped bulbs, the kind you see in schools or hospitals. Vee, however, was screwing the bulbs in a random building. She had managed to screw all of them in, save for one. Sadly, upon screwing the last one in, a huge spark had caused it, as well as the other bulbs in the room, to burn out and explode. Vee sighed.

Montage Ends…
Vee walked down the sidewalk with her head lowered. All that work and she didn't even come close to making the money she needed to helping her mom. Hell, she didn't even break a hundred.
"What am I gonna do now?" Vee asked herself.
At the same time this was going on, Hunter was thinking about what Adrian had told him before he left.
"Things were better when my dad was in charge?" Hunter repeated to himself in a mutter as he stepped out of Wittebane Inc.
The moment he turned, he and Vee bumped into each other.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Vee apologized.
"It's alright," Hunter replied, and then realized who he was talking to, "Hey, I know you, you go to my school. Vee, right?"
"Yeah. And you're Hunter? Nice to officially meet you," Vee said.
"Likewise," Hunter said, he and Vee shaking hands.
Suddenly, a thought came to Vee. Hunter's uncle was the CEO of their family's company. So, maybe…
"Hey, your uncle runs Wittebane Inc, right? Do you think he has any job openings? Preferably ones that don't involve electronics," Vee asked the young man.
"He might. But first, let me give you a mini-interview," Hunter folded his arms, narrowing his eyes curiously.
"…Ok?" Vee replied.
"First question. Are you a hard worker and are you able to show up on time?" Hunter asked.
"That's two questions, but yes and yes," Vee replied.
"Would you put the company ahead of your own personal life? Do you have the heart to fire this sweet old lady?" Hunter pulled out a picture of an old lady on his phone.
"Uh… I can speak Spanish," Vee replied, unsure how to really respond. What the hell kind of interview questions were those?
"Hm. You may be overqualified," Hunter admitted, rubbing his chin, "Still, I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask. Come on," Hunter said, leading Vee inside the building as she followed close behind.
Phillip was at his desk, signing papers, when he heard a knock at the door.
"Enter," Phillip said without looking up.
Hunter and Vee then stepped in. Vee took notice of how big the office itself was. The room was bigger than her whole living room. To say that Vee was impressed was an understatement.
"Uncle?" Hunter spoke.
"Yes, Hunter?" Phillip asked.
"An acquaintance of mine wanted to ask you something," Hunter gestured to Vee, and then looked at her, "Go on."
Vee cleared her throat.
"Mr. Wittebane, I was wondering if you had any job openings. Preferably ones that don't involve electronics or plugging or screwing stuff in," Vee told Hunter's uncle.
"Hmm… well they have lowered the working age in some states, including this one," Phillip rubbed his chin.
Phillip got up from his desk, walking over to Vee with his hand behind his back. He stood in front of the girl, looking down at her with a certain gaze.
"Not many positions open that don't involve not being around electronics. Are you comfortable with being a janitor, young lady?" Phillip asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm a little on the fence about that, but I really need the money, so… I guess," Vee gave a small shrug.
"Well then, uh…"
"Vee."
"Welcome to Wittebane Inc, Vee," Phillip extended a hand to her.
Vee reached out and took ahold of his hand. However, the moment their hands touched, a chill ran up her spine. When she looked into his eyes, she could almost feel the coldness within them. Vee couldn't really explain it, but something about this guy just felt… off. Vee retracted her hand.
"Uh, on second thought, I—" Vee was about to change her mind, only to be interrupted by the window behind Phillip to shatter from the outside.
This was due to a man in a mechanical suit bursting in. It was a green and black suit with a bird-themed helmet with an orange visor. The boots of the suit came equipped with razor-sharp talons. The distinguishing thing about it though was the pair of massive wings on the back, along with the jet between them which allowed the user to fly. That would explain how this guy got to the top floor from the outside since this wasn't just a building, it was a skyscraper.
"Wittebane!" the man looked directly at Phillip.
"Adrian?" Phillip looked at the bird-themed man with wide eyes.
Adrian then flew towards Phillip, grabbing and lifting him by the shoulders with his talons. Vee and Hunter could only watch as Adrian flew out with Phillip in his clutches.
Vee blinked.
"What the hell just happened?" Vee asked.
"That was Adrian Toomes, one of my uncle's employees. Or rather former employee. I don't know what's up, but it looks like he has a grudge against my uncle," Hunter told her.
"Damn," Vee said then turned around.
"Where are you going?" Hunter looked as she walked away.
"I'm going to go get help, I'll be right back!" Vee shouted as she ran out.
Moments later, Vee stepped out onto the roof of the building. Luckily for her, Hunter didn't follow. She found a nice spot to change into her costume, which she had in her backpack.
Meanwhile, Adrian was flying through the air, clenching Phillip by the shoulders as he held him in his grasp.
"Enjoying the view, Wittebane?" Adrian asked.
"Adrian—"
"Adrian Toomes is no more. I prefer you call me by my new name. Call me…" Adrian released his grip on Phillip, allowing him to fall several feet, only for Adrian to grab ahold of him at the last minute and fly back up, "The Vulture!"
"What do you think kidnapping me will do?" Phillip asked.
"One chance, Wittebane. You can make this easy on yourself by going to the public, announcing me as the true creator of the flight suit, and giving me both the credit and money that is rightfully mine… or I can make you do it by force. Your choice," Vulture told him.
To Phillip, that was more of an ultimatum.
"That technology belongs to my company, Adrian!" Phillip countered.
"Force it is then," Adrian said, flying higher before releasing Phillip.
Phillip screamed as he once again fell from the sky. However, this time he had been saved by someone swinging by in a hooded costume.
"Hey there. You know, you really shouldn't go skydiving without a parachute," Vee quipped, now donning her Spider-Girl costume.
"How dare you!" Vulture flew after them, "I'm the only one meant to fly through the air!"
"I'm not flying, I'm swinging. Huge difference, birdie," Vee replied.
"What are going on about? Put me down this instant!" Phillip demanded.
"Wow, bossy much? You've got to be the rudest damsel in distress I've ever rescued. Also, the ugliest… the most cologne-drenched… and the first," Vee said as she shot out web after web to swing across buildings.
"Who ARE you?!" Phillip and Vulture asked in unison.
"What, you don't watch the news? I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Girl!" Spider-Girl said as she rebounded off a wall and shot out a web.
"Spider-Girl? I thought you were just a myth," Vulture said.
"Well, this myth is real, bird brain!" Spider-Girl said, "I—" she was cut off by electricity surging around her body, "No! Not now!" she shouted, looking at herself, which caused her to accidentally drop Phillip, "Oh, shit!"
Spider-Girl fell head first, straightening out her body as she dove after Phillip. She shot a web at Phillip's back then yanked him back towards her. Catching him in one arm, she used the other to shoot out a web and swing around a corner.
"Some superhero you are," Phillip said sarcastically.
"Hey, it's either be saved by me or be held hostage by some old guy in a turkey suit. And I'm pretty that bird is desperate to catch his worm," Spider-Girl replied.
As she swung, she felt another surge of electricity surround her body. This time though she made sure to hold on tightly to Phillip.
"Wittebane!" Vulture shouted, closing in on his target.
Thinking fast, Spider-Girl turned around in midair and shot an impacted web at Vulture's visor, blocking his vision. Vulture grunted as he floated in midair, struggling to get the web off his visor. Spider-Girl used the opportunity to swing into a nearby alleyway where she and Phillip took cover behind several crates. When they saw Vulture fly by, Spider-Girl sighed.
Seeing as how Phillip was safe, Spider-Girl could now go on the offensive. Shooting out webs from her wrists, she slung herself up onto a nearby roof. She aimed her wrists at Vulture, only for the electricity to dance around her arms. She gasped, retracting them as she looked at her hands. These new powers. They made machines go haywire and caused a blackout at a house, among other things. If she touched or hit Vulture, they might do more than just shock him.
In the time she had spent thinking to herself though, Vulture had managed to get away. Spider-Girl shook her head. With a backflip, she landed and stuck to the wall of the building that was behind Phillip.
"You ok?" she asked, wall-crawling towards him.
"Yes, and while I do appreciate being saved, I don't like being tossed around like a ragdoll," Phillip said, dusting himself off.
"Better a ragdoll than a piece of meat," Spider-Girl replied, "So, what's with that guy? You must've done something to upset him."
"I'm afraid he's delusional. Wittebane Inc will be releasing a new technology soon, one that he claims to have designed and created himself, but has only ever caught glimpses of the model. It seems years of desk work have made an old man think things happened differently," Phillip told her.
Spider-Girl eyed him suspiciously. There was that weird feeling again. She felt like that that wasn't the whole story… or even the real story.
"…Let's get you back to your company," Spider-Girl said.
Vee walked around several floors of the building. As a janitor, all she had to do was sweep, clean up the restrooms, and take out the trash. She was allowed to wear her normal clothes with the only thing she had to wear as part of a dress code was a badge with her name and cap with the company's name on it. The job was not only degrading due to the duties she had, but given her ethnicity, it was also stereotypical. She decided to push those thoughts aside though since she needed the money. That's not what was on her mind though. What was on her mind was her encounter with Vulture.
"I can't believe it, I totally choked. Because of these electric powers, the bad guy got away…" Vee thought to herself, looking at one of her hands, "Can I even be a superhero with these? …I bet Luz would be able to…"
As she tied up a trash bag, she couldn't help but notice a few of her coworkers dozing off a bit. One of them even just fell asleep at their cubicle. It was as if these people had been working overtime every day.
"Shouldn't some of these people head home and get some rest?" Vee asked no one in particular.
"We would if we hadn't been forced to work overtime. Doesn't help we don't get paid extra for it," A man said tiredly as he passed by the teen, a steaming cup of coffee in his hand.
Vee pushed her cart full of trash bags to the nearest trash chute. Opening the door, she tossed each bag down the chute. She had to admit, this part of the job was kind of fun, despite how gross it was.
"I'm sorry, honey. Can't you ask one to stay at one of your friends' houses tonight?" Vee heard a female coworker say over the phone, "I know you're almost done with your karate class, but mommy's stuck here at work…"
Vee exited the women's restroom, now on one of the upper floors. All she really had to do was replace the toilet paper, paper towels, and the soap in the soap dispenser. She was about to move on to her next task, when she saw Hunter step out of the men's restroom. Seeing the state of her coworkers earlier, she had to get something off her chest.
"Hey Hunter," Vee called out as she approached him.
"Oh, hey Vee. How you liking the job so far?" Hunter asked.
"It's making me feel like a stereotype and I hate it, that's how I'm liking it," Vee sarcastically said with a roll of her eyes, "But that's not what I want to talk to you about. I wanted to talk to you about the people that work here."
"What about them?" Hunter asked.
"I've noticed a lot of them seem overworked, to the point where they can barely stay awake," Vee said.
"Well, people work a lot of hours when they're behind a desk. That's what happens when you work for a company," Hunter replied.
"Even though they're not getting the extra pay for the extra hours they work?" Vee placed a hand on her hip.
"What? I'm sure that's not true," Hunter replied.
"Some people have to pick up their kids and they can't because they're forced to stay here and work," Vee told him.
"Well, it's a big company. We need all the help we can get," Hunter said.
"Even if that help comes at the cost of the health and well-being of the employees?" Vee cocked an eyebrow.
"Well, I'm sure the employees—"
"Hunter!" Vee snapped.
"Alright, Alright! I'll… I'll see if I can talk to my uncle about it," Hunter told her.
"Thank you!" Vee said, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have more cleaning to do," she said, pushing her cart.
Vee turned a corner and noticed a door slightly ajar. There was a name on the door that read: Adrian Toomes. Her curiosity getting the better of her, Vee looked around. When she saw the coast was clear, she stepped into a dark room.
"Where's the light?" Vee muttered, feeling along the walls before managing to flip on the light switch, "Whoa," she said with surprise.
The room she was in wasn't just a room, it was a lab. The whole room was barren, save for a desktop computer on a desk and a swivel chair that had appeared to be knocked over. Vee walked over with her cart and picked the chair up, putting it back into its original position. There wasn't much to clean up except for a folder that was right next to the computer. Vee took the folder, preparing to throw it away, when a flash drive fell out.
"That's weird. Why would someone leave a flash drive in a folder?" Vee muttered, raising an eyebrow.
Vee reached out for the flash drive, only to recall what happened all those times she's touched electronics today. She took a pair of rubber gloves from her cart, putting them on as a precaution. Sitting in the chair and turning the computer on, she inserted the flash drive and found several files, each with a design and research for a flight suit. The last file was a video labeled: My Invention which she clicked on. The video showed who Vee assumed was Adrian Toomes, the walls of the lab aligned with designs of a suit, along with several prototypes. Adrian in the video flew around the room in a circle, doing aerial tricks before landing and skiting to a stop in front of the camera.
"Haha! Finally! I've finally perfected the flight suit!" Adrian said, beaming with excitement, "Not only will I make a fortune, but I'll put those airline bastards out of business. Never again will people have to spend hours going through security, having their flights delayed, and or loosing their luggage!" he said, doing another go around before the video ended.
"So, Adrian was the one that designed the flight suit. This company just stole it and took credit for it. No wonder he's so hellbent on capturing Phillip Wittebane," Vee muttered, leaning back in the chair with her arms folded.
Vee walked over to the window, looking out at the city as the sun had almost finished setting. She looked down to see Phillip exit the building and enter a limo. That was the moment her spider sense went off. A second later, she saw The Vulture zip by. Knowing where this was headed, Vee ran out of the room.
"Taking my break!" Vee quickly shouted to Hunter as she ran past him.
Meanwhile, Vulture flew through the air behind Phillip's window. He bared his talons, ready to slice open the roof of the limo, only to be hit in his side, knocking him away. Vulture quickly realigned himself.
"Whoa there, Turkey," Spider-Girl flipped onto a window of the nearest skyscraper, "You already failed to catch that worm earlier, remember?"
"The name is Vulture. And what do you think you're doing saving that sorry excuse of a man?" Vulture said.
"Look, I know who are. Adrian Toomes. You're mad at Phillip Wittebane for stealing your invention and taking credit. But there are other ways to go about it than physically harming him," Spider-Girl told him.
"Maybe… but they won't be as effective," Vulture said, returning to his chase, "I will have retribution!"
"No!" Spider-Girl shouted, shooting out a web and going after him, "Phillip may be jerk, but I can't let Hunter lose his uncle like I lost my sister…" she thought to herself.
With a powerful swing and a flip, Spider-Girl landed on Vulture's back.
"Get off me! He must pay! I have the power to make him pay!" Vulture shouted.
"Just because you have the power to hurt someone, doesn't mean you should," Spider-Girl told him, "Someone used to always tell me that with great power there must also come great responsibility."
No sooner than when she said that, electricity surged around her body.
"Oh, crap, not now!" Spider-Girl said, looking at herself.
"Off, now!" Vulture grabbed Spider-Girl and tossed her.
Spider-Girl shot out a web at the last second, attaching to the nearest building. Like a pendulum, she swung through the air, doing a flip before landing on the roof another building ahead of Vulture. She leaped off the roof, shooting out several webs, creating a giant spider web between that building and the one across the street from it. Vulture was so focused on catching up to the limo, he didn't notice what was right in front of him. Like a fly, he ended up trapped in the spider's web.
"Well, that should hold you," Spider-Girl said, crawling on her web as she watched Vulture grunt and struggle, "You know, sometimes birds do get caught in spider webs. Looks like you're the bird and this is my web."
While Spider-Girl had been talking, Vulture had managed to get one of his arms free, followed by one of his legs. In an awkward motion, he used his one free talon to cut his legs free. He leaned back and used both talons to cut his wings free which allowed him to break free of the web completely, destroying it in the process.
"Aw, come on!" Spider-Girl groaned as she flipped onto the nearest window.
Phillip's limo had managed to get away but was still at a reasonable distance for Vulture to chase down. Now free of the web, Vulture pursued his prey. Spider-Girl on the other hand, chased after the flying old man.
She wasn't sure what to do. She tried talking him down, she tried trapping him. Neither of which worked. The only other option left now was brute force. She had to hit him hard, with enough power to disable his suit.
"The only way to do that is with…" Spider-Girl looked at herself, electricity surging around her body, "This guy got away last time because I was too scared to unleash these powers. Well, not this time!" she told herself mentally.
Spider-Girl focused, tightly clenching her right hand into a fist. Soon, the magenta-colored electricity that once surrounded her body, now flowed down her arm and into her fist which lit up and sparked.
She closed her eyes, waiting for the inevitable explosion. However, she soon found there wasn't one. She opened her eyes and saw, to her surprise, that the power hadn't blown up in her face or anything around her. Hell, it wasn't even running wild around her body.
"No… freakin'… way!" Spider-Girl said with wide eyes.
With new determination, Spider-Girl swung high before releasing. Once above Vulture, she came down and delivered a hard punch to the jetpack that had given him the ability to fly. Vulture screamed as he felt the electrocution throughout his body. The jetpack blew out, along with his wings.
"Huh. Expected more of a bomb-type of explosion," Spider-Girl muttered.
"You fool! You've doomed us both!" Vulture shouted as they both fell.
"Wow, someone hasn't been paying attention," Spider-Girl said.
Spider-Girl spun Vulture around repeatedly and, like real spider would, webbed him up in a cocoon, leaving only his head exposed. She released him only to shoot out a web at him. Vulture spun around the top of a street light which ended up with him dangling from it by his feet by the web that Spider-Girl attached. Spider-Girl herself stood on top of the lamp.
"You! Because of you, Wittebane got away!" Vulture yelled.
"Yeah, well, most vultures are scavengers, not hunters," Spider-Girl replied, a hand on her hip.
"I swear, I will rebuild my suit, and both you and Wittebane will—" Vulture was cut off by Spider-Girl shooting a web that covered his mouth.
"Vultures also don't talk," Spider-Girl added before shooting out a web and swinging away.
"Alright, Vee, you can do this. Compared to fighting Vulture, this should be easy…" Vee thought to herself as she approached Phillip's office door. However, she saw a note.
"Out on extended vacation. Time of return unknown."
"Ugh. Damn it!" Vee groaned.
"Vee," she turned to see Hunter, "That break you took was way more than 15 minutes, but I'll let it slide since it's your first day. Now, I need you to—"
"Actually, Hunter, it's also my last day. I need the money and all, but it seems to me like your uncle isn't someone I should work for. I reuse to work somewhere at the cost of my dignity and pride, a place where I'm not respected. So, when you see your uncle again, tell him I quit," Vee said, handing him her badge and cap before walking away, "And you might want to pay closer attention to how your uncle treats his employees."
Hunter looked at Vee just as the elevator doors closed. When they did, Hunter looked at the badge and cap in his hands then at Phillip's office door.
Noceda House…
"Hola, Mamá," Vee greeted her mom while walking through the door. Luckily for Vee, it was that late by the time she got home.
"Hola, mija. How was your day?" Camila asked, sitting on the couch as she watched the news.
"It was… eventful, to say the least," Vee replied rather vaguely as she joined her mom on the couch.
News Reporter: In other news, a man by the name of Adrian Toomes has been arrested for terrorizing his former employer. Toomes once worked for Wittebane Inc and attacked the CEO, Phillip Wittebane, for reason that have yet to be mentioned. Fortunately, Spider-Girl was there to stop him and left him in police custody.
"Oh my. Never a dull a moment with Spider-Girl around," Camila commented. She picked up the remote to switch to one of the streaming services. However, the remote was unresponsive, "Maldita sea, (Damn it,) the batteries must be dead."
Vee smirked, chuckling internally. While her mom went to go look for batteries, Vee took the remote into her hand. Using her powers, she channeled electricity into her palm, giving the remote a small zap. She pressed a button, the remote now functioning as she successfully changed to one of the streaming services. Vee chuckled to herself. Turns out these electric powers weren't as scary as she thought before… especially since they helped her beat Vulture. Perhaps she could keep this superhero thing going after all.
Vee then took whatever little money she had made out of her pocket. She looked at it then at her mom's purse which sat right next to her. Vee quickly and quietly slipped the money to her mom's purse. Sure, she didn't get as much as she'd like to have gotten to help her mom, but a small amount was still better than nothing.
A moment later, Vee's phone went off. Taking it out, she checked and saw there was a new notification. When she read the notification, her face lit up… though not literally. This notification specifically had given Vee a small ray of hope. Perhaps she and her mom weren't screwed after all.
Alright, that's the end of this chapter. I had a little help with this chapter from my good friend I Write Big. This chapter was inspired by the first episode of Spectacular Spider-Man… I just couldn't resist.
This chapter marks the debut of Spider-Girl's first villain, Vulture. The design for this universe's Vulture's suit is a combination of the one from the Spider-Man (PS4/PS5) game and the Spider-Man (2017) cartoon. This chapter is also the debut of Vee's electric powers. I told you she'd have the same powers as Miles Morales.
