Chapter 2
Margaret Houlihan walked into the office of Trapper John, M.D. wearing blue scrubs and white sneakers and a stethoscope around her neck. Her blonde hair sported the latest hair style and was cut much short and above the collar. She scowled at the medical director. "Trap!"
Trapper John looked up from his desk. His once curly blondish hair was now gray and receding. He sported a full beard and wore a white dress shirt, tie and black slacks. He looked up trying to hide the wince. "Margaret."
"Frank Burns!" she huffed. "You hired Frank Burns." She stepped closer to his desk.
"I kind of had to." he told her. "He's V.A. and the board wanted a V.A. doctor for the homeless vets. Frank put in for the job."
"You are going to set Frank lose on homeless vets?" she balked. "Why not just give them a gun and bullet to off themselves first?" She threw her hands up. "I have not see Frank since Korea. Now I have to work with him again."
"Maybe he's changed." he tried to cheer her up.
"I doubt it." she huffed.
Trapper figured he better change the subject as there was nothing he could do to prevent Frank Burns from working in the hospital. He cheerfully asked. "How's Blake doing?"
It worked as Margaret's mind went to her adult daughter. "Blake is doing great. She got her M.D. She's a licensed pilot. She's got her PhD in physics and is going to be working with Hawkeye and B.J. in their new practice."
He asked, "She got a boyfriend?"
She huffed. "No! And she doesn't need one. She's not like me. She doesn't throw herself at every handsome face she sees." She titled her head up. "Thank God."
"She's a bright kid." Trapper agreed. "Her father was Dom, right?"
"Yeah," she nodded as she recalled the handsome pilot. "It was just one night but I can see why Nurse Baker liked him."
"Did he ever find out?" he wondered.
"I never told him." she shook her head. "He had girl in every airfield and MASH unit. I figure he was not the settle down and have kids type."
"You never know." he shrugged. "People change."
"She's thirty. He's not going to want an illegitimate kid in his life now." she dismissed it. "Besides, she adopted Peirce. She calls him 'Dad' and send him cards on father's day."
"Hawkeye eats it up too." he figured.
"He loves her like she's his own." she agreed. "He was there for me. That's why I asked him to be her godfather." She gave a heavy sigh. "I can't believe Frank is coming to work here. What if he wants me back?"
"Sick Blake on him. She will take care of him." he assured.
She gave him a look. "She only spent a couple of summers at the Winchester camp for youth."
"But didn't she learn archery there?" he smirked.
She nodded. "Yes! Charles wanted to make her a Winchester. He was her sponsor in everything. Civil Air Patrol, college…everything."
Trapper stated. "Just tell her that if she shoots Frank make sure it's in the ass."
A smirked came across her face as she imagine Frank taking an arrow in the behind. "I will."
Meanwhile
Blake returned to Santini Air with her paperwork for her new job. Dom looked over the physical and eye exam. "Captain Pierce signed this." he noted.
"He's just a doctor now." she reminded him. "He's not in the Army."
"Boy, I wish I had come with ya." Dom told her. "Would have loved to have seen him again."
She mentioned "He is accepting new patients."
He grinned wide. "I can have him as the official doctor for the airfield and send all my pilots to him." He then spied String and Caitlin walk into his office after the work day was done. "Hey String! I was thinking of having Dr. Pierce take over the physicals for the pilots."
"Your friend from Korea?" String asked.
"Yup! He's taking new patients." he grinned. "Started a practice with Captain Hunnicutt."
Blake corrected. "He's not a captain anymore either."
"Doctor Hunnicutt." he corrected himself.
String smirked "But we have a doctor who is also a pilot now. Just have her do the physicals." He motioned towards Blake.
Blake batted her eyes. "I can do your physical, String."
Caitlin rolled her eyes. "I think it would be best to have someone outside the business do the physicals. It could be seen as a conflict of interest by the F.A.A.."
"That's true." Dom agreed. "Hawkeye and B.J. can do the physicals for the business."
"First name bases with the doctors, huh?" String asked amused.
"They are old buddies." he confirmed.
String crossed his arms and smiled with a slight chuckle. The mood was soon broken when a familiar white limo pulled onto the airfield. His face became stern knowing his contact had another job for his crew and top secret chopper, Airwolf.
All eyes fell on the limo. Dom scowled, "Just great."
Caitlin wondered what new mission was at hand and then realized the new pilot and doctor had no idea they flew top secret mission for the FIRM. She winced, "Oh boy."
Blake asked "Who is that?"
String stated "Just a new job." He looked to Dom. "Maybe you got a job for doc to do in the back?"
He shifted and asked, "What job should I have doc do, String? Clean the john? Have you seen her resume? She has a PhD in physics and is an M.D.."
String asked, "You have a PhD in physics?"
Blake nodded. "For flight theory."
"I didn't know that." he told her.
The limo pulled up to the mouth of the hangar. Blake watched a man dressed all in white emerged along with a female assistant who also was dressed in white. She noted the male had a darkened eyeglass indicating loss of an eye and a walking cane.
Michael Coldsmith-Briggs the Third aka Archangel emerged from the limo with his assistant, Marella. He spied a new face. "Hawke." He looked about for a moment. "I see we have company." He noticed how much Blake resembled Dom. He thought that perhaps she was a relative. He looked to Dom, "Relative of yours, Dom?"
Dom replied. "This is Dr. Blake Houlihan. I knew her mother in Korea. She's a new pilot here."
Michael looked at Dom and then at Blake and back at Dom. He wondered just how well Dom knew the mother at that point.
Marella stood a bit taken. "She could pass as your daughter, Dom."
Blake shrank in stature wishing she could hide as the truth was obvious to the strangers. She found String, Dom and Caitlin all looking at her. To save herself from embarrassment she replied. "My father is Dr. Benjamin Franklin Pierce." She omitted she adopted him.
Dom then recalled. "He and Hot Lips were always at each other. He had dark hair too." He then lied to himself. "I can see the resemblance."
Amused Michael asked, "Hot Lips?"
Blake stated "My mother was the head nurse of a MASH unit in Korea. My father was the head surgeon. I'm Dr. Blake Houlihan." she held out a hand. "I'm a surgeon and a pilot. I also hole a PhD in physics." she added. She wanted to get attention off how much like her biological father she looked and used her education and titles to deflect.
"I see." Michael stated. He looked to String. "You should have run it by me before brining on a doctor who also a pilot. Though, it's a brilliant move."
"Um…" he winced for Blake was not hired for Airwolf missions.
Marella agreed. "That is a brilliant move. How did she do in Airwolf? Can she make the transition?" Marella and Michael both assumed the new doctor was recruited to help on missions. With a PhD and a MD she simply had to have been recruited by String himself. Never did they imagine she applied for a job as a pilot to simply meet her biological father.
String went with it. "Not yet but we will take Doc up soon." He then glanced at Caitlin and Dom to go along with it. He noticed Blake seemed a bit baffled by her expression.
"I look forward to hearing the report." Michael told him. "Next mission is in Korea. There is a former army intelligence officer that was captured by the North Koreans. Former Colonel Samuel Flagg."
Dom rolled his eyes for he recognized the name.
"Get us the details." String gave a nod.
"Will do." he agreed.
Blake pondered, "Why is that name familiar?"
Dom told her. "Flagg used to bug your mom and dad's camp. The MASH 4077th. He was a real doozy."
Michael stated, "He's a leading FIRM asset, Dom."
"He's nuts." he declared. "You want us to go rescue Flagg?" he balked unbelieving.
"Yes." Michael stated. He looked again at Blake and then at Dom. "Just how well did you know her mother, Dom?"
He became defensive. "Well enough." He crossed his arms and glared at him.
"I see." he slowly gave a nod. He looked to Marella as he questioned if Dom was her biological father as the resemblance was significant. "I'll get back to you with the details." He then bid his goodbye and climbed back into the limo with his assistant.
The four stood and watched as the limo pulled away.
Blake asked, "What is Airwolf?"
"We'll show you." String assured.
