Happy hadn't married Helena the next day- mainly because it was a Sunday and the courthouse was closed. Instead they had talked to the kids about becoming a family as Happy inked his crow on Helena's inner right arm. He had let his artistic side out with this one, having it posed mid-flight holding three letters in it claws representing him and the children. He himself had his friend Ash do his matching letters in a shield done on his right hand that night.
Helena had requested that he at least meet her parents once before they legally got married. She had insisted that her crow meant she was already his wife and he wasn't arguing with her. Driving up to Santa Rosa wasn't a possibility for him with a couple of gun deliveries over the next two weeks, so Helena arranged for her parents to come down for a dinner.
"Carina, I don't think your ma is going to care what color the hand towels are," Happy teased as Helena stood contemplating between navy and grey. Her head snapped up to him.
"Merde…my mother is the queen of judgment," Helena said finally picking navy. Happy just shrugged to that.
Noella came trotting in holding up a puzzle. Looking between the adults, she zeroed in on Happy as the most likely to do it with her.
"Papa, how do you saw puzzle in Spanish?"
"Rompecabezas," he grunted knowing where the girl was going with this.
"Rom-pec-…rom-peca-besaz..por favor?" Happy chuckled at the butchering of the the word but was glad she tried.
"Sí, mi princesa," Happy indulged to Helena's huff of losing his non-help.
Noella and Happy where almost done with the puzzle when the doorbell rang. Henry shot out of his room where he had been playing with his legos to get it.
"Mama, Papa! Grand mère et Grand père!"
"You can let them in sweetie!" Helena called from the kitchen.
Happy stood scooping Noella up to his hip. Henry opened the door, and Happy immediately scowled. While Helena's father looked every bit the respectful businessman his wife looked like a harpy. On first impression alone, Helena took after her father in looks and demeanor but got her short stature from her mother.
"'Alo Henry," Andre said.
"Grand père!" Henry wrapped his arms around the man's legs.
Stepping inside the couple froze seeing Happy holding Noella. The little girl gave a smile and wave to her grandfather, but ignored her grandmother simply resting her head on Happy's shoulder. Happy continued to scowl.
"Who the the hell are you?" Victoria hissed shooting her glare to Happy.
"Mother! Do not curse in front of our children. That's my old man, Happy," Helena said coming into the foyer.
"Our children?" Victoria looked offended. "After everything your father and I have done to help with our precious babies…you let this…scum even hold Noella?"
"He's my papa! You can't be mean to him!" Noella yelled as she started to cry. Happy was officially pissed off.
"Vete al demonio perra!" He hissed carrying Noella out, Henry smart enough to trot behind his adopted father.
Helena was equally furious. Her mother had gotten worse, and her father seemed too tired to stop it or divorce her. Rounding on both of them she crossed her arms squaring off for the conversation to come.
"Never insult Happy again. He is a good man and I love him deeply. The children adore him and he is an amazing father."
Victoria scoffed at that while Andre simply eyed his daughter. Helena gave her parents a good look, assessing her past and what she wanted for her future.
"I appreciate everything you have done for me and my children. You gave me the support I needed, especially that first year, to get on my feet and be able to make a life for us. I will always be grateful for that. If you cannot bring yourselves to be respectful of Happy and our relationship, then you can leave. We can schedule visitation with the children."
Victoria looked ready to unleash something on her daughter but Andre put a hand on her arm.
"Mon cherie, we only want what is best for you and Henry and Noella. Are you sure this…man…c'est assez bien pour toi?"
"Yes, he treats me like his queen…I couldn't ask for someone better," Helena smiled turning her arm to show off her crow. That did it for her mother.
"He fucking branded you? I can't believe I raised you…and you let him around the children?"
Helena's smile turned to a snarl, for far too long had her mother gotten away with her behavior.
"I'd let him brand every inch of my body- whether with ink or his mouth. Get the fuck out of my house and don't come back. I'll take to papa about when you can see your grandchildren and if you can't keep your mouth shut then only papa and Bastien will see them! Tu n'es plus ma mère, va en enfer!"
Andre pulled his wife out of the house at that. Helena was breathing hard, tears burning her eyes. She had no idea where that side of her came from but it felt damn good standing up for herself and defending her family.
"That was one of the hottest things I've seen in my life," Happy growled coming up behind her and wrapping her in his arms.
"It was a long time coming with my mother, and no one insults my husband or our family," Helena said leaning into the comfort of Happy's chest.
"Husband eh? We going to the courthouse tomorrow?" He asked kissing her cheek.
"Hell yes, Bastien will be good with it and I can tell him when he gets back. Where are Noella and Henry?" Helena hoped they hadn't heard all of that fight.
"I turned on Shrek for 'em in our room," Happy said turning his woman around to face him. "I can brand 'every inch of you' with my mouth?"
Helena shivered at his voice and the look in his eye. Wrapping her arms around his neck she gave enough of a jump for him to pick her up. She squeezed her legs around his waist giving him a grin.
"I am your woman aren't I?"
Happy pulled her mouth to his, pouring his passion into the kiss. Knowing the kids would be hungry soon, he work his lips down her jaw to her neck. Finding the spot he wanted he bit down hard. Helena tensed and squirmed in his arms but he was determined to mark her.
"Mine," he growled pulling back.
"Yours," Helena whispered back.
