Chapter 20: Motonui Part I: Moana & Maui
The Highwind left the Toy Box and headed toward the heroes' next destination.
As they sat, Axel kept making sounds of frustration.
"What's wrong with you, Axel?" Kairi asked in concern.
"Something's really been bugging me," He replied. "We know Sora has three hearts inside his own; one's Roxas, and the other is Ven. But the third one is a mystery, and yet, every time I think about it, I see this girl that I don't know, but feels familiar in some way."
"That's actually something that's bothering me, too," said Roxas. "I feel like I've seen her before, but I can't place it...it's like...it's like what happened to me when Sora woke up! Like she's been..."
"Erased," Sora realized.
"Exactly," said Roxas.
This made everyone silent.
"Well...whatever the case may be," said Aqua, "We know this much: we have to find a way to get Ven's, Roxas's, and...this other girl's heart out."
"Aqua's right," said Mickey. "We just have to keep looking."
"Do you know anything that could help us, Mickey?" asked Riku.
"Unfortunately, no," The mouse king replied. "The only thing we can do is continue to help all the worlds we can, and have Sora obtain the power of waking."
"Hmm...where should we go next, then?" asked Sora.
"We'll be there soon," Aqua said.
~~~~~~~~Half an hour later~~~~~~~~~~~
Just ahead was the next world, that was mostly water, along with a couple islands.
"What's this place called?" Sora asked.
"Hmm...it looks like it's called Motonui," said Mickey.
"Sounds exotic," Yuffie said.
The off-worlders arrived on a small, sandy island in the middle of nowhere. Everyone's clothes had changed as well, except for Terra. It looked everyone was wearing some sort of tribal clothing, all in their traditional colors. Donald and Goofy kept their hats while Sora and Kairi kept their necklaces.
"Wow, this is new," Aqua said, pulling a bit at her top.
"It kinda feels like being back home," Kairi said, twirling around to examine her outfit.
"I'll say," said Sora. "You look like you're wearing one of those dresses my Mom wears during festivals on Destiny Islands."
POP!
The sound of someone being hit rang out, along with a surprised yelp!
"You are NOT my hero, and I am not here so you can sign my oar!" An unknown female voice growled.
"What was that?" Axel questioned, quietly.
"Sounds like it came from over there," Yuffie pointed.
Soon, the group went to investigate the sound, as they parted some bushes, they saw a young girl with tanned skin and wearing a traditional tribal dress with a skirt made out of straw, and in front of her was a tall, muscular man with wavy hair and wearing a grass skirt and a necklace made out of teeth, and his body was covered in all these tattoos.
And hilariously, she was holding him by his left ear, scolding him.
"I'm here, cause you stole the heart of Te Fiti! You will board my boat, and sail across the sea and put it back!"
"He stole what...?" Sora whispered. "Did I hear that right?"
The girl tried to pull the man along, but he didn't move an inch.
"Um, yeah, it almost sounded like you don't like me. Which is impossible, because I got stuck here, for a thousand years, trying to get the heart as a gift to you mortals, so you could have the power to create life itself! Yeah, so I believe what you were trying to say, is 'thank you'."
"Thank you?" The girl questioned.
"You're welcome," He replied.
"What? No-no-no, I didn't, I wasn't...why would I...?" The girl stammered.
"Ok, ok.
I see what's happening here
You're face-to-face with greatness and it's strange
You don't even know how you feel. It's adorable!
Well, it's nice to see that humans never change~
Open your eyes, let's begin
Yes, it's really me, it's Maui! Breathe it in
I know it's a lot, the hair, the bod
When you're staring at a demigod~
What can I say except "You're welcome"

"Everybody we meet seems to sing a lot, huh?" asked Riku.
"Hey! What has two thumbs and pulled up the sky?
When you were waddling yay-hi? This guy!
When the night got cold, who stole you fire from down below?
You're lookin' at him, yo!
Oh! Also, I lassoed the sun!

To spread your days and bring you fun!
Also, I harnessed the breeze,

To fill your sails and shake your trees!
So what can I say except "You're welcome"!
For the islands I pulled from the sea!"
By now, the girl was starting to look rather impressed, and Sora and the others were beginning to nod their heads to the song.
"There's no need to pray, it's okay, you're welcome
I guess it's just my way of being me
You're welcome, you're welcome
Well, come to think of it
Kid, honestly I can go on and on
I can explain every natural phenomenon
The tide, the grass, the ground
Oh, that was Maui just messing around
I killed an eel, I buried its guts
Sprouted a tree, now you've got coconuts
What's the lesson? What is the takeaway?
Don't mess with Maui when he's on the breakaway
And the tapestry here in my skin
Is a map of the victories I win

Soon, everything became vibrant and colorful, like a living painting while Maui kept singing and giving the girl coconuts, flowers, and bananas.
"Well anyway, let me say "You're welcome!"

For the wonderful world you know!

Well, come to think of it, I gotta go!
Hey, it's your day to say you're welcome!
'Cause I'm gonna need that boat

'Cause Maui can do anything but float

And thank you!"
Maui had led the girl over to a cave and pulled over a rock to black the exit, trapping her!
"H-hey! Let me out! YOU LYING, SLIMY, SON OF A-!" The girl screamed inside the cave.
"That little shit!" Yuffie cursed at Maui.
Maui danced and hummed as he made his way over to the boat. Sora and Kairi leapt into action first, getting in between the large man and the boat!
"You know, that awesome song is almost ruined because of the dick move you just pulled!" Sora scolded.
"Whoa, whoa!" Maui exclaimed. "It ain't my fault you mortals are so enticed by music!"
"And that gives you an excuse to rob people?!" Kairi questioned.
"We know a demigod who's got way more morals than you!" Riku added.
"What?!" Maui exclaimed. "There's no other demigod but me!"
There was a sound of something slicing a rock, followed by a big THUD, indicating it had been moved! Everyone turned to see that Terra had cut up the rock blocking the girl inside the cave, who stomped out, looking pissed.
"Thank you, by the way," she said as she glanced at Terra.
"No problem," he answered.
"YOU!" the girl shouted as she pointed at Maui. "You tricked me!"
"Hey, you were moved by the song," he replied.
"Okay, we're kind of new around here, so could you please explain what's going on?" Axel asked.
"Well, I am Moana of Motonui," The girl introduced herself.
"I'm Sora."
"I'm Kairi."
"Name's Riku."
"Donald Duck."
"I'm Goofy."
"Mickey Mouse."
"I'm Yuffie!"
"Axel, got it memorized?"
"I'm Aqua, and the one who freed you is Terra."
"Hi."
"Nice to meet you all," said Moana.
"Uh...if you don't mind me asking," said Kairi, "What's going on between you guys?"
"I'm here to make Maui take me to Te Fiti," Moana answered as she reached inside her pendant and pulled out a glowing green stone, "So that I can restore the Heart and save my island!"
Mickey examined the stone, "Heart of Te Fiti…?"
"Te Fiti is the Goddess of Life," Moana explained. "Her Heart has the power to create life itself, and she used it to bring life to every island in the world. But then, others began to seek out her Heart, believing that if they took it, the power to create life would be theirs."
"And, you stole it?!" Donald questioned Maui, angrily.
"I took it to let you mortals have the power to create life," Maui answered. "You're welcome."
"We didn't say 'thank you'," Riku dismissed it.
"Besides, without her Heart, Te Fiti vanished and a terrible darkness was unleashed!" Moana added. "It's been consuming island after island, and right now; MY island is being consumed. The inside of coconuts have turned black, the plants and trees are dying, and there's been no fish in any part of the reef."
"Oh, no..." Kairi whispered.
"It's...just like what happened to our island," Sora whispered, remembering back when Destiny Islands was consumed by the darkness.
"Uh, guys?" Axel pointed toward the beach, where Maui was now sailing away on a small boat, with a tiny rooster!
"Hey!" Moana shouted, running after him, the off-worlders following her.
"Sorry, enjoy the island!" Maui called as he sailed further away.
"We've only just met, and I really don't like him," Riku grumbled.
"Join the club," Terra agreed.
"Ditto," Donald added.
"I have an idea," Kairi said, summoning her Keyblade. "Aqua, can you help me?"
"Okay..." Aqua summoned her Keyblade, not really sure what the princess had in mind.
Moana looked at their weapons with fascination, "Wow, what kind of weapons are those?"
"These are our Keyblades," said Sora. "They're magic weapons that only a chosen few can wield."
"So Kairi, what's your plan?" Axel asked.
"We're gonna make a boat," she replied.
"Oh," Aqua understood as they both focused their magic.
Soon, something formed over the water: it looked like a canoe...a VERY big canoe with 3 big sails that had Sora's Crown Emblem. Kairi and Aqua both made strained grunts as they kept focusing their magic until they gently set the boat down on the water's surface. Once it was finished, they almost collapsed, but Sora and Terra caught them.
"You guys okay?" asked Sora.
"That...took a lot of magic...!" Kairi said while panting heavily.
Everyone got on the canoe and prepared to set sail, but then the ocean glowed and carried them after Maui. Unfortunately, Moana wasn't prepared for the sudden increase in speed, so she fell off! Luckily, the ocean carried her back to her canoe and splashed her back onto it.
"Did not see that coming," Maui muttered in surprise.
"How about us?" Yuffie called as their canoe came up beside Moana's.
"How'd you do that?!" Axel asked.
"I didn't do anything," Moana said, spinning around, causing her hair to whip around into her face, but she quickly pulled her hair out of her face. "The Ocean is a friend of mine!"
"This MY canoe, and you WILL journey to Te Fi-WAAAHH!" Maui had grabbed her and threw her overboard.
"3...2...1..." Sora counted down before the sea brought Moana back to the canoe.
"I have a feeling that this is gonna be pretty monotonous," said Aqua. "You throw her in and the ocean's just gonna keep putting her back on the boat, so why bother?"
Maui sighed and turned to the girl, "It was Moana, right?"
"Yes," she replied, pulling the Heart out of her pendant. "And you WILL restore the Heart!"
Maui looked at it for a moment, grabbed it and threw it into the distance!
"Hey!" Donald exclaimed.
But, the ocean tossed the Heart back, hitting Maui square in the face, making him fall over! Everyone laughed hysterically at that, except Moana.
Maui got back up, "Alright, I'm out."
He jumped into the water, trying to swim away, but the ocean threw him back onto the canoe.
"Oh come on!" He complained, only to get a spray of water to his face, like the ocean blew a raspberry at him.
"What is your problem?" Terra questioned as Moana picked up the Heart, making Maui back away in fear.
"Are you-are you afraid of it?" Moana asked, with a playful look on her face.
"No," Maui denied. "No, no, I'm not afraid of it."
But, the mini-Maui on his left bicep chewed his fingernails off, shivering, then ran around in fear, before stopping and smiling up at larger Maui, nodding.
"Stay out of it or you're sleeping in my armpit," he threatened. "And you, stop it. That is not a heart, it is a curse. The second I took it; I got blasted out of the sky and I lost my hook-get it away from me."
"What, get this away?" Moana asked in a cutesy, pouty tone waving the Heart around.
"Hold on," Sora interrupted. "You said you're a demigod, what are your powers?"
"With my magical giant fish hook, I can shapeshift into any animal I want," Maui replied. "No magic hook, no magic power."
"How'd you lose it?" Goofy asked.
"Right after he took the heart, he was confronted by Te Ka," Moana explained. "A demon of earth and fire, who also sought the Heart. Te Ka made him lose his hook and the Heart to the sea."
"A demon of earth and fire...?" Sora repeated.
"You mean...like lava?" Donald asked, worriedly before he gulped.
"Exactly," said Moana.
"And now, there are gonna be all kinds of monsters and bandits out looking for it," said Maui. "Plus Te Ka, ever defat a lava monster?"
"Have you?" Moana shot back.
"She's got you there," Riku said.
Maui grumbled in anger, but regained his composure, "Look, I'm not going on a suicide mission with a bunch of mortals. You can't restore the Heart without me, and me says no. Help me get my hook, end of discussion."
"You may be a demigod, but you're in no position to be giving orders," Axel replied. "Tell you what; you go on your own selfish way, and we'll take Moana to restore the Heart."
"Wait!" Moana exclaimed. "I'll help you get your hook back, but only if you help me."
"And why should I?" Maui asked as he was about to eat a banana.
"...You could be a hero," Moana replied, getting his attention.
"Little girl, I AM a hero," he retorted, taking a bite.
"No, you WERE a hero," Yuffie countered. "Now, you're just the guy who stole the Heart and cursed the world. You're no one's hero."
"Pfft, no one?" Maui questioned.
Moana looked at him slyly, shaking her head. The rest of the off-worlders shook their heads, looking unimpressed. Even the ocean made a small stationary glowing wave for a head, and shook it.
"Think about it," said Sora. "If you bring back the Heart, you'll be forever known as Maui, the Demigod who saved the world!"
"We'll never make it past Te Ka without my hook," Maui reminded.
"We can get your hook back," Terra told him. "Besides, dealing with giant monsters is an everyday thing for us."
"Terra's right," said Riku. "There's nothing out there we can't handle."
"First, we get my hook," Maui said.
"Then save the world," Moana exclaimed. "Deal?"
"Deal."
