Puck's biggest mistake was not what he did to Kevin. An equally big mistake was telling David that if somehow Puck would get Dave and Kurt alone together, Dave should talk to Kurt and find a way to at least let Kurt know Dave was gay. Puck had done it, Puck wasn't that surprised that Kurt had chased after Dave when Puck had encouraged him to. After all, why shouldn't Kurt take Puck's advice.
Thinking that this meeting could go well was really Puck's biggest mistake. Everyone thought Puck was dumb. David, was supposed to be smart Puck couldn't believe it when David told him about what happened after Kurt followed David into the locker room. David said" girl's locker room is next-door." Puck probably should have come up with what to say to Kurt, but what could Puck have known David was going to say" besides you coming in here to look at my junk."
David was a whole new level of stupid. Puck did tell Dave he should let Kurt know he is gay. David kissed Kurt and now Kurt knows David is gay.

Puck had heard so many rumors about what had happened in the locker room the day of the fight. But the truth was that after football practice Jack had been the first one in the locker followed by Dave and Puck. They had been talking about who was going over to Jack's house for tacos the following Tuesday.
David said "he would be there for tacos. Puck said "he wasn't sure he wanted to know what Finn, Sam and Mike were going to do."
Jack wanted to talk to Finn so he got dressed and went back on the field. Kevin came in with Mike and they were laughing. Puck moved closer to hear what they were talking about. Mike and Kevin were talking quietly and Mike said, "if you want to just ask Kurt". Mike stopped talking when he saw Puck.
Puck asked ", is it a secret?"
Mike and Kevin exchanged looks, yeah, they were keeping a secret.
Mike said "no Kevin just wants to join the glee club and I'm suggesting he should ask Kurt to be his partner for the competition this week.
"No 'said Puck we have an even number for the duets competition so Mercedes and Kurt will be singing together and losing to me and Santana. Are you sure that is all you want to ask Kurt, Kevin you weren't planning on asking him something else, were you?
Kevin said" that is none of your business don't you want to go change?"
Puck asked," why do you want to watch, pervert"?
Kevin said "you wish".
And that's when David betrayed Puck.
